Waited in line to refund a defective on-line purchase at the customer service desk and when it was my turn I was told that because it was an online order I would have to go around the corner to the rental counter which required another wait in line. There were no signs indicating that online orders were NOT taken at the "customer service" counter. Seriously??? 'Customer service' are just words at this store. Hands down the questions I had were answered even before I had asked them. And this all because of my personal best salesperson of the year: F I O N A. As much as I am opposed for the next couple of years to shop in Canadian stores only and buy our own products, I have to admit, that I am not feeling bad at all afterwards. I am not a handy person and do not really do home improvement or DIY stuff. To say I am intimidated and overwhelmed with all the stuff here is an understatement. I was first sent here to get a new faucet for my kitchen sink and new lock for the front door by my handywoman who was doing the minor home repairs for me. I spent 2-3 hours in here being confused by all the choices. Thank goodness for google and WiFi and reviews. I finally bought something. Subsequently I came back here several times to get screwdrivers, checking out bathroom light fixtures and other stuff. Still not my favorite activity. Then I needed to get a new refrigerator. Again I probably looked like a fish out of water here. As I have limited space for the fridge, my choices are somewhat limited. Thankfully a staff (Evelyn) came over to assist me. She was knowledgeable and made recommendations based on my requirement. And yay! I made a purchase. It was out of stock then and would only be delivered about 2 months later. That was fine with me. She was also very patient with me when I discovered my new credit card was declined and I had to call the bank to get it verified (bank's way to combat fraud as this was a huge purchase on a new card). It was a great experience overall. The delivery experience itself was not that great but since it was subcontracted out to another company, it was not Home Depot fault. It has been over 6 months with my new fridge and it is working great! No complaints about it and I love my fridge and faucet and things I have bought here. All are working well. read more

I like others use the Home Depot plus Rona/Lowes for various home improvement needs. First time I have used them for a rental and decided to use the Burnaby location as that was convenient for the landscaper I hired. The need was to rent a roto tiller with some power behind it as the yard to be tilled was full of roots and we wanted something that would cut up those hummers like a hot knife through butter. So landscaper goes to the location, finds my contract, is assured all is ready to roll and gets this very heavy and pretty awkward to handle machine onto his truck. Similar awkward unloading at my place and we manhandle it into the back yard. So far OK. Start it up, it fires up and runs for about a minute, then nada. Takes a while and we determine there is no gas in it. NO GAS. Neither of us have a jerry can or extra PREMIUM grade gas kicking around so --- on my dime as I am paying him hourly --- he heads to canadian tire to buy a jerry can, hits a gas station to put 8 bucks of high test gas in it, gum boots it back to my place and we have already eaten up 90 minutes of rental and his time and haven't got this beast to till a thing. Since there was no real instruction on how to drive this thing given at the HD location we messed with it now that it was running and after another 10 minutes got it to go. OK, now we are cooking and this large heavy machine is chewing up the yard with my landscaper holding on for dear life. Meanwhile I am on my phone, calling the rental department to explain that they are going to need to credit my card for the lost time, gas, etc and there is no way I can get a call through. Phone rings 10 times then auto hangs up. I am at this for 45 min or so, try to call the main store and it doesn't even ring it just hangs up. For the love of god Home Depot fix your phones. OK so job is completed we untangle the root balls clinging to the tiller, clean it up, load it back on his truck and he is off to Burnaby to turn this in. And lo and behold I get a call from the rental desk with an apology and a credit. And the lovely lady on the phone took the sh&t I dished out because their rental department deserved it. This ended with somewhat of a credit back and an apology. Will I do a rental from them again? No. This is chalked up to a life lesson. And will I ever try to phone that store again? Not on your life. This year I've been busy with my new home, and I've done a lot of shopping at Home Depot. Home Depot has a huge selection, but they don't carry all of the best quality products. Most of their products are good for non-professional use such as their paints such as Behr, which is below average quality paint, and it has been an absolute nightmare to use for DIY consumers and professional contractors. The staff at the Customer Service Desk has excellent service (fast, efficient and friendly) but floor staff at the paint section has disappointing service. One staff member wouldn't give me paint stir sticks because he told me that I had to buy their paint to get it, but I told him that I bought paint as I showed him my Behr paint can and receipt! After, he told me that they had a limited supply of paint stir sticks, and he didn't want to give me any of their stir sticks, but there were over a dozen in the can! There was another incident when I witnessed staff at the paint department screaming at customers because they weren't properly lined up. After these two incidents and the poor quality of Behr paints, I told myself and others, to always avoid Home Depot for anything paint-related. Went to this Home Depot location. Was looking for a part and when I entered the store I saw a young man, who had the apron on. I approached him to ask where I would find this item, I greeted him and got no greeting in return just a rude response on where to find the item. I still thanked him. Went to the aisle, and there was another young man. I greeted him, and he responded in such a courteous manner. I asked him if he knew anything about what I was looking for, and he advised he didn't but would find someone who did. When the person who was going to help me showed up, it was the first young man I had approached. I asked my question and he basically dismissed me, saying I needed some info. which I admit I didn't have, but he was not very nice about it. I am not looking for someone to be overly friendly, but atleast courteous. The funny thing is the first guy ended up being the one that was supposed to help me anyways, and could have right off the bat. I don't know why he didn't. But I am abit perplexed as this has never happened to me at Home Depot before. I will chalk it up to a one off. I would have given this visit 0 stars, but the second young man was very nice. read more

Out of all the Home Depot's in the Lower Mainland, this is the location I usually come to, why you ask, well for one it is close to where I live. I actually am in the middle of this one and the one near Terminal and Clark and I just find this one easier to get to, and easier on parking. When you come here there is always a ton of parking, and we are not talking about going far where you have to haul all your heavy items in a cart a far way to get out and leave. You are free to roam around, and if you are one who likes to do things around the house, you may roam a long time, as it is 'Home Deopt', and that means big in size, and with this location, everytime I have come here it is never busy, so you can gaze aimlessly at items you can dream you had at your home to work in, or a reno project your working on. The help here has always been pretty good in guiding you to the direction of what your mind is looking for. The staff, the ones I have me, know the layout of the store quite well, you could be in lighting, and if you were to ask for a hook to hang your pictures, they would know which isle to go to get this small hook. Also if there ever is a sale on things, like when I come here for my mom for cheap bags of planting soil, they will have stock, as the hoarders go to that other location I mentioned to you above. I didn't have a good first experience as I was ignored and simply pointed to a direction that I looked for an hour already. To put things in context, like everyone, I am trying to get some garden supplies to start a garden during this covid stay home crisis. I eyed a modular planter that say to have 16 in stock on their website. After looking the whole garden center, I couldn't find it, I went to customer service for assistance and they just pointed me back at the garden center and I spent another good 15 mins there with my boyfriend trying find the planter. Still no luck, I went to ask a staff and they told me to go line up at the customer service. I was very upset and disappointed at the way I was treated that day as no one was willing to help me. A week later, we called the store and asked whether they are in stock and they said yes. My boyfriend said let's give it another try. The experience this time was completely different. We first went to the outdoor garden center and didn't see it and lined up to get into the store and didn't see it either. A caring employee named Heather helped and made sure that we get what we needed. We overheard her talking to another gentlemen about grass growing and she seems to really know her plants. We told her about the planter that we wanted to buy and she helped us look front and back and between the aisles. She took our phone number down and said that she will call us when she finds it and put one for us to pick up and made arrangement so that we won't need to line up again to get into the store. She found the planters way up top in the paint aisle. We would have never been able to find it ourselves and are really grateful for her arrangement and call back. One of America's largest home improvement retailer opened chain stores in Canada. The selections are huge, it sells almost everything you use for home improvement. They always have some staffs on the floor to help out the customers, however, they're not all knowledgeable and helpful. Especially this location! My hubby regularly shops at home improvement stores like I shop at supermarkets weekly! We wanted DIY for automatic sprinkler at back yard and side walk. We went to different home depot to get kit and heads due to some stores are out of stock. We asked the staff to help and explain about sprinkler head nozzle adjustment but he had no clue. My hubby was a bit disappointed but he has a good friend to ask (Google). We bought and installed it successfully. read more

Came here to get some real offensive attack on possible mice nest in my garage; as receipt shows, I wasn't hesitant into spending whatever it takes lol. The worker there really knew his stuff--kudos to him for knowing this b/c it sure scared the heck out of me; yes, i'm not fond of rats/mice, who are? not even mickey mouse i dread...anyways, i digress... Guy recommended NOT to buy the typical mouse trap w/ the vice that clamps on their neck; one, the bigger it is (both the trap AND mice, the more of a mess, meaning possibly cleaning up the guts, blood, etc. two, germs being airborne, three, not knowing if there's a 'kill' unless you go there to check, & four, you have to physically remove or throw entire trap away. Enough of that. Recommended to get the sticky glue which doesn't kill them but their feet (hopefully) will get glued & won't move--a humane approach. So far, in past month or so, haven't seen a mice so far. Which leads me to the next purchase: sonic plug-ins, which emit an annoying sound to deter them from settling in & hopefully for them to get the heck out of dodge. They are good at taking items back, no questions asked. c) excellent hours. They're pretty much open almost whenever I need them. As for the staff, it's hit and miss. Today would be the latter. I was asking a guy about different toilet seats and all he could tell me was based on what he read off the price tags. Thanks buddy, I think I can read too. I came to Home Depot on Henning Drive yesterday to buy a compact refrigerator and was assisted by Taylor and Gord. They were so amazingly helpful. I showed them a printout of the selection I found online and Taylor led me to the various refrigerators and opened the packing so I could have a look at them. Gord helped load the fridge onto a trolley for me and advised me to keep it upright so that I could use it right away (I did not know that fridges shouldn't be placed on their sides if you wanted to use them immediately-something about distribution of the freon). I was impressed with the customer service of these 2 men. Thank you! read more

!Recently, I had decided to do a bunch of renos to our house and had to go to HD. From past experiences, of terribly lazy staff, I was dreading going to the store. Well, I was in for a real surprise! And a pleasant one! These guys have got their act together and some more! Each staff I asked for help went out of their way to offer assistance, Ann from their PRO department was just INCREDIBLE. She efficiently got my order together for pick up. Getting home, my contractor asked me to order more stuff, the guys at the PRO desk, once again were very helpful. Had ordered a wall heater online only to be told by my contractor, it wasn't the best for my needs. Took it to the shop - no questions, gave me a refund, and I got the right one. Great job Home Depot and thank you for easing some of the pain of renovations! read more

Not sure about the other 2 star reviews~ I went in here today, a busy Sunday and I was blown away by the service I received from entering. A nice, smiling older Asian man was at the entrance, and eyeing the paper list in my hand ~ asked me "Can we help you find something"? I laughed out loud and said yes! After explaining what I needed and not knowing what the bits and pieces were called he told me to go to Aisle 16. Upon getting to this aisle, I spotted another mature employee who quickly came over and started helping me look for the fasteners I needed. He spent a good 15 minutes with me, adeptly answering questions from other near by customers in the same aisle ~ alternating between us and multi tasking like a pro. Very rare! He even labelled the parts on the plastic bag for me ~ telling me to keep the receipt and explaining what steps to take next if these did not work. I cannot count the times I have left Rona and Lowe's ~ empty handed, frustrated, and totally ignored ~ unable to find what I was looking for. Home Depot has really stepped up their game in the customer care area ~ leaving their competition far behind. I will not be shopping anywhere else from now on. I saw a Makita impact driver combo set on the website but there was only availability, at the time, to order the set online. So I did. It is an exceptionally good deal so I don't want to miss out. The items individually cost quite a bit more than the sum of this combo kit. I put in my order. That was on March 9th. Estimated arrival date: March 10-19. It is now April 20 and the damn thing hasn't arrived. I have called to ask why and on the rare chance that I can actually get ahold of someone, well the answers have been mind-numbingly exhausting. On two occasions I have been told by the representative that they will look into the issue and get back to me within 24 hours. Not one of them had made good on their word. They sell the individual items of this kit, in-store. So I asked - seeing as it has been well over a month delayed - why not just cancel my order and provide me with a store credit to go and pick up the individual items in-store. They won't do that. They could literally just bundle the exact same items for me in-store and give that to me and then just accept my online order and split that up when it eventually arrives. Take your damn licks and own up to this embarrassing situation. Don't make your customer the fool for your lack of competence!! I could literally walk to their distribution center in Ontario and back to BC faster than this delivery service. Seriously. I googled it. I'm being told now that May 28th is the arrival date. Really?!! Over two months to deliver something to me that you have in stock?! They put up a good deal and now they won't make good on it. What a circus! I have spent a sizable about of money at these stores. This experience has made me think I should just take my business to Lowe's and Summit Tools instead. I worked at Home Depot once upon a time. There's a motto they have/had: "everything we touch, we make better." I guess not. Terrible customer service and even worse customer retention. Truly shameful. read more

So very few instances give us that angle and with The Walking Dead still holding strong, it's a question that will inevitably come up. Fear not post apocalyptic fiction fans - today, Home Depot solved this dilemma. It's a customer service wasteland, where civilized, rational human beings will go from perky customers to rage filled zombies in approximately 20 minutes. You'll roam the aisles, desperately hoping to pick someone's brain. But these folks are zombie customer experts and are well trained in the art of being absolutely nowhere in sight. And so you will eventually give up trying to find that specific clamp/plant/dowel and mindlessly wave your arms and shopping list in the air, while gurgling curse words under your breath. It's terrifying. Folks, I don't walk out of many places but today I did - I walked out of this place after having spent almost a half hour shopping and left a full cart in my wake. I had three fairly specific things I needed - two for props and one for my garden - but the complete lack of help eventually did me in. Even when I managed to catch the attention of not one, but THREE people, one of them was a "vendor" and the two others told me it was not their department and simply waved me back to the wasteland. I came here during a busy time and b-lined to the garden section as I wanted to pick up some succulents to put something together. I walked aimlessly up and down, and up and down the whole garden area looking for succulents or anyone wearing an orange apron. I eventually found some succulents but they were too mature for my liking. I went up to the cashier area to ask for help - if they had more or other succulents and the cashier couldn't help me and told me to look for someone in the garden department. Again, went back to the garden department and didn't see any orange. I ended up leaving feeling pretty deflated and empty handed. That sucked and was a waste of time. read more

I feel the need to review Home Depot because of the OUTSTANDING service I received yesterday. I'm sort of at the moment the primary caretaker of my parents house and over the weekend while I was away, our hot water tank broke and was leaking everywhere and I have no idea how to deal with that. It broke and was replaced 2 years ago too, but my sister and uncle dealt with it then. This time it was my turn. I had already been having a really bad day for personal reasons, add on a broken hot water tank and you have a Reena already in tears trying to hold them back. I go to Home Depot and I was expecting to have such a hassle trying to figure out this whole tank thing, but they got a guy in the plumbing dept right away for me. His name was Saleem and he went out of his way to help me for an hour an a half. This location didn't have the type of tank I needed, but he tracked down a store (after calling a few different ones) that did have one and arranged for everything to be delivered and installed in my house today. And he was really nice to me. So while the whole incident was a hassle, Saleem did a great job of easing the headache. Thank you! read more

First the positives: This Home Depot location is well located and very large in size, with lots of inventory. Now for the big negative: The staff, if you can find one, need some serious training. It shouldn't take 3 intercom calls and close to 20 minutes to get someone to answer a simple question regarding product availability. I almost left the store out of frustration. I had to ask 3 out-of-department staff members to call for "assistance to aisle __". One of the staff members I asked was in kitchens. I went up to her and said, "excuse me, I'm looking for help in plumbing and was wondering if you could call someone for me". She said "No, this is kitchens...plumbing is over there" with a very dismissive attitude. I've experienced the same crappy attitude from other employees here in the past, so this seems to be a trend. Turns out the employee that did finally assist me was very helpful and friendly, although they didn't have in stock the product I was looking for. The manager of this store should realize that competition exists in the retail industry. Why would I put up with long waits and rude staff if I don't have to. Honestly, I'd rather drive out of my way to go to Lowes or Rona. Needless to say I won't be back. read more

We are renovating our house We need some new appliances to update the kitchen. The Asian Lady who is working in Appliance section there. Her service is Horrible. We were waiting there for long time for service. She was talking to others Home depot stuff people. She has not enough appliance knowledge to help us and she is lazy there. She is not willing to find out the features of appliances and dimensions for us. Her face is not friendly to customers and she speaks to the customers high tone. We were pissed off. We were looking at kitchen cabinets and countertops and couldn't wait to get away from the person working in that department who obviously had no clue what she was talking about but wanted to push to send someone to our house for a consultation. The next visit we had two extremely knowledgable and helpful staff assist us purchasing bathroom faucets. Wasted 30min of my life and couldn't even buy the product. Home Depot is great. I've had countless good experiences. I'm here to share my first bad experience. I'm making a simple shelf for the garage. Just needed a plywood panel cut up into 4 pieces. I drew out the lines then took it to the cutter. HD dropped the ball when they hired Edgardo. He didn't know how to use the machine, was slow, and confuse easily. 1) Edgardo does not know what he's doing. I marked which side of the line is scrap or keep-wood. He cut on the wrong side of the line TWICE. He justified by saying HD doesn't do precision cuts. 23 inch is not a precision cut. The pieces I'm supposed to buy are now damaged. 2) Edgardo asked me to wait so he can help other customers who lined up after me because "my complicated cuts will take a long time." I figured he wanted to work slower (to cut drawn lines) but having a lineup pressured him to work faster, so I said okay. The two other customers just need some 2x4s cut in half - quick and easy you'd think. 2) Edgardo is very slow. Before he touches any wood, no matter how small or light, he slowly puts on gloves, loads the machine, then slowly takes them off before turning on machine. The other customers ended up loading the machine themselves instead of waiting for Edgardo. 3) Edgardo is very slow. Before/after every machine use, he slowly walks 2 meters away to get/hang his earmuffs. I don't know why he doesn't just hang them around his neck especially if he knows he needs it again in a few seconds. At least he kept the googles on. 4) After 15 minutes of waiting, he got back to me. He said store is closed, forklifts are driving around, I should leave, he'll put my panel aside, I'll have to come back the next day, and find someone else to finish the cuts. Edgardo was just making excuses to not cut; other customers were still walking around. Normally this would've just added fire, but Edgardo didn't know how to use the machine, and I didn't want him to mess up more pieces. Purpose of this review is just to warn you about Edgardo - avoid him unless you want slow service and bad cuts. Perhaps it's my fault going to HD on a Saturday night. Good knowledgeable employees wouldn't be assigned to non-busy closing Saturday shifts. read more

It seems most hardware stores your left alone to figure out where anything is - which is the biggest pain in the behind - why don't they offer kiosks like chapters bookstores so that one can look stuff up? Or at least provide a more interactive app like Canadian Tire which when you view their products of a particular store it indicates what aisle etc it is? I went here yesterday in search of a glue gun I had thought I already owned to fix a cat post. Yeah no glue gun at home. So an Internet search to product compare and found a $25 well known brand name model with awesome reviews. When I checked at home their site said 6 in stock. When we got to the store their app said 3 in stock but none on the wall where the first person we tracked down to ask said. Like a woodworking angel a bearded happy sounded employee was working the aisle helping everyone as needed and so presenting the facts we located the three way way above in a box. He zipped away and then came back with the stairway to heaven and plucked down the product from the sky. Bing bang boom off to the cashier then out the door best experience ever however as its an employee customer service determinant on customer satisfaction I do hope they bring kiosks or update their app. Thank you so much. read more

I was looking at their power tools, this East Indian security guard came over and stood right beside me, not even 2 meters apart, just stared at me like I'm going to be a thief. Excuse me? I'm a pro-extra member and I've never been insulted like that in my life. Incriminating shoppers like that will get you a nice civil lawsuit for harassment and slender. He fellowed me around the power tool section like he's about to tackle me if I made a wrong move. These power tripping security guards are not welcomed in public accessible spaces like that. They will get HD sued one day. If you are so tough, be a prison guard. HomeDepot have to stop using these 3rd party bouncers as security. I went to the tool rental department. The staff person was good. For head office please note the below - The print out of the contract was bad and and the credit card equipment looked worn. You need to replace or repair it. The credit card screen looked really worn that you could only use a pen. The print out of the contract was extremely faded on the right side. Probably took me 25 minutes before I was able to find someone who could help me with my inquiries. However, the representative who finally was able to help me was very nice and knowledgeable with the product. This has been a recurring theme for me at this location. I think the staff are genuinely nice and helpful but maybe they could staff a few more people so it is more accessible to get help or ask questions for customers. read more

- bought my new hot water tank at home depot and contracted home depot for installation The problem: - installer decided our space was too small even though it was within guidelines and same size as the one he removed - he swapped the tank for a cheaper model & charged us an additional fee of $50.00 for swap - the stairs were dented, stained and scraped from his dolly (hw tank is on 2nd floor) - installer cut all my tank securing straps and left the tank unsecured with a bunch of unusable, sharp metal around - after some trouble home depot waived the additional swap fee and only charged me for the smaller tank - i am still left with an unsecured tank, 9-year warranty instead of lifetime (9 year is max for the size of tank the guy put in) and damaged stairs read more
