I figured I'd call ahead to confirm what materials the store has, so I called in the morning on a weekday but only got a busy signal. I wouldn't be able to visit until the weekend as my work hours overlap their open hours, so I tried calling again the next day and spoke to one of their employees. He was very helpful, and coincidentally had also build a lid for a terrarium! He gave me great suggestions and tips, so when I went in on Saturday I knew exactly what to ask for. There's a line to get in the store, they can only fit 6 patrons at a time due to the pandemic restrictions for their business. The gentleman I spoke with on the phone happened to be working and set me up with all the supplies I needed, it was a busy day and I was very grateful for his time for sure. I dropped by the next day even to pick up some sand paper in case I needed to smooth the metal frame, the employee on door that Sunday knew exactly what would work and was very quick to help me find the right paper. I didn't work on my project until the weekday and found out the hard way that the bulk screen mesh that was cut for me was cut a couple inches too short - there was no way I could make this mesh work with the size of the lid. I sent an email this time instead of calling, and received a response a couple days later saying I can come in and exchange the incorrect mesh for the right amount. I dropped by today and sure enough, the employee on door was able to get me the amount of screen that I paid for, no fuss about it. Everyone I spoke to was friendly, patient, and knowledgeable. If they didn't know, they traded off with someone who would. Even with an easy mistake setting me back on my project timeline, the store made it just as easy to fix. I really appreciate this store for their service, in the past they've been very relaxed and supporting as well. I'll definitely continue to support this little Home Hardware so we can keep them in the neighbourhood. I'm rating full stars because as much as there was a mistake, there was no hesitation to help me out with it. You don't lose stars for being human, you gain stars for being humane. :)

The staff was very helpful. He found exactly what I needed. On top, he said if it doesn't fit, I am free to return it. Luckily everything worked out well. I was happy. The location was great and convenient. This is a neighborhood store. Most of the customers here are locals or living in the hood.

Items they can't stock due to their size can be ordered online and shipped to the store. Yet I shop there as infrequently as possible. Why? Because they presume every customer is a potential shoplifter -- they require all bags to be checked at the entrance. Is this a huge inconvenience? No. But since merchants must now charge for shopping bags, I generally carry one with me, and no, I don't want to have to leave it behind while shopping. No other business in the area treats their clients with such derision. If I can buy elsewhere, I will.

Here, the staff is very friendly, helpful and indeed tries to understand what we laymen needs or wants to do, and show what all we need. I guess that since home hardwares are individually owned, that this is the big difference from the big box stores which caters to the trades and more professional carpenters, plumbers and electricians etc. Not particularly cheap but fair prices and welcoming for us amateur gardeners, home decorators and those forced to become their own handyman! By the way, this is their new location - I've gone to their west 4th location for years and was dismayed that I couldn't find it recently! Their boxes of nitrile work gloves tend to be cheaper here than most places. It's definitely worth coming to check it out if you're in the market for tools, work gear and paint. This was actually the first hardware store where I encountered this as all the chains, even smaller ones, let you browse. They definitely take the pandemic seriously as on top of the no browsing, they have a very fancy system with a light signal telling you when you can come inside where staff will ask you what you want ring you up and then have someone bring your purchase out to your car. It's a pretty effixient efficient system. They also carry sand topping mix, which is sold out pretty much everywhere else in Vancouver. Prices are competitive, not cheap but not expensive. As an independent business, they have a convenient location in kitsilano that is a good alternative to big box stores. The parking lot is small, but does the job.
