Summit tools is great for what it is, liquidation deals and cheap tools. Working in the trades, some things are worth spending $$ on and some things are better to buy break and replace. Bought a cordless work light today; had to wait at the till while someone brought it from the back. I was the second person waiting. The checkout line was long, so the gal took the next customer. That next customer had a number of items that took considerable time. During that time, my item arrived from the back and so did the one for the other fellow waiting. We continued to wait while our gal spent more time with her one customer. Across the checkout aisle from her was another gal who appeared to be a supervisor. She looked over several times and could plainly see that two of us were waiting while the first gal continued, on and on, with the customer with a lot of stuff. The supervisor twice took time to page for someone to come to the front and take the last till. While the two of us waited and waited for the first gal to finish, the supervisor took about five more people from the line. When, finally, I was paying, I asked the gal if there was a reason we had to wait while others were taken from the line. She said it was because she had started with us. That meant, BTW, that she had our order chits. While she was serving the customer with a lot of items, she took time to go over items arriving from the back, which were right next to the supervisor. Our cashier could have easily handed our chits to the supervisor. Alternatively, the supervisor could have asked for them. I don't go to Summit very much. It's been harder and harder to find a good deal. Plus, some of their stuff is of very poor quality and I have had to take it back. Their flyers appear to offer good deals but if you look carefully at the part numbers and check elsewhere, fewer and fewer "deals" are worth it. E.,g., today they had a one-day sale price on a DeWalt planer, but that price was the same as at Canadian Tire! There is another tool place that often costs Just a little more, but they offer an extra year's warranty on many of their items. Often worth it to me. Maybe this is a bit long a detailed. Not sure what to make of this place. Parking is available in the small lot out front, as well as along the street. Good: The staff are very friendly and helpful, even following me around the store as I needed things. (I asked for their help, so no, they weren't stalking me) Plenty of selection Competitive pricing - about the same as Home Depot, give or take Bad: The store is understaffed. Took me 15 minutes to flag someone down. Some tools (especially the unknown brand stuff) is of questionable quality. Some were downright flimsy, or build to poor tolerances. I've been shopping at this store for years and after my recent experience I'm not sure I'll be going back. They seemed to have hired a bunch of kids that know nothing about tools and really don't listen when you're trying to explain what you're looking for. I went there today to buy a track saw and the person working there kept a trying to sell me a battery version that I don't have batteries for. Even after I told him 3 times that I did not want a cordless model. There was another young south East Asian gentleman working today that was very rude and zero concept of social distancing. He would simply stick his arm out yell and barge though people looking at items. Gone are the days of people knowing what they are selling or care about providing customers with a safe environment. Playing games with flyer pricing and a very rude manager. These are the reasons I will no longer be a loyal customer of Summit Tools. I have purchased thousands of dollars of Dewalt 20v tools and batteries and tools here. On the 23rd I went to Summit to purchase the 1/2 inch impact wrench listed under the heading "starting at $99." When I asked a rep to see the impact in the ad, he responded that it was $199. When I said that does not sound right. He said "I don't wright the ads. I asked to speak with the manager. He was obviously annoyed that I was Disturbing him. Did not care that his price was double what the ad implied. Said Oh this is about the $99. thing. No apology or empathy. I left without purchasing the items in my basket. KMS had a Dewalt 1/2 inch impact for $129. I went to summit to see if they had a better deal. KMS had the better deal. While there I was speaking to a different Rep. He told me that the Impact wrench in the ad was now $159. I am not sure if they made a mistake and the manager blew me off because he is an ass or if this is a calculated scam. Do Not Trust Summit Tools flyer pricing. The pricing is misleading at best. I went there yesterday and spoke with on of there staff, I told him what I was looking for and he gave me a better deal then the sale price. They always have some kind of lost leader that is a screaming deal as well. Know your prices before you go and I'm sure you will come out with more then you were going in for! If you are in need of tools this place is it. You will find the best prices, better than Home Depot or Canadian Tire. They have a huge selection and even have some cute girls that seem to know their stuff about tools. I came here looking for a screw extractor to take out a set screw whose head was stripped (went to 5 other places) and I found it here for a much cheaper price than anywhere else even cheaper than online. Found the right size as well, for a 1.5mm set screw. Also bought a set of Allen keys and some replacement plugs for extension cords. read more

I find the prices very competitive and I have never been disappointed when I have asked if Summit Tools would price match items I found on sale at other tool stores. They always seem to have what I am looking for and sadly for my wallet they have things I didn't know I wanted until i saw them in the store. The staff at all of the stores I have been to (Kelowna, PoCo, Burnaby) are always helpful and never hard to find when I have a question or need help. The girls that work behind the counters always seem to have a smile and always friendly. My only negative comment (which I admit is a pet peeve of mine) would have to be regarding the flyer I receive online weekly. Why do stores show items in the flyer and then instead of listing the prices put "call store for prices." What's the point of having a flyer if I need to call the store. Especially when the stores prices are almost always better then anywhere else. Salesmanship games I find very irritating. They sell lots of items, but watch out for the low quality of some of the imported/non-namebrand products they sell. I was there yesterday, June 21 2013, had Grate customer service by a knowledgable man named Neil. There was definitely a lot of low quality product meant for the homeowner who wont use it much or the contractor who believes in disposable tools- especially if they are billing the client for them.... Service can be both good and bad depending on who you talk to. Employees don't get coffee breaks and are given 30 mins for their lunches. If they are late by 1-2 mins returning to work from lunch the company docks off 15 mins from their paycheque. The owner does not allow his employees to use the paper cups given to customers for the free coffee. Employees are not given discounts but any customer can always ask for a discount. How is that fair for people working there? Given these conditions no wonder everyone there is in a bad mood. Turnover rate is super high and every time you return you will see new staff. read more

I don`t quite get how management justifies wages for chit-chatting and daydreaming sales pepole. Their cheezy import brands, "Samona" and "Brico" have a steel quality that probably does not conform to ANY of the North -American steel standards. Steel tools sold under these brand names tend to behave as if they are an uncontrolled random mix of over-the-limit impurities, slag, contamination and traces of iron that get crudely manufactured into an assortment of dimensionally inconsistent shapes that fail or dull within minutes of use. Hence hobby-level pricing, e.g. 25` long tape measure for $1.99 The uncoated blade rusts within 2 days of touching morning dew and the retractor spring is so thin and weak it breaks in a month. Excellent deals on brand-name power tools. No problems with scaffold frame or hardware I bought there either. These are items I keep going back for. read more

I am a working certified tradesman with many years experience. I shop at Summit Tools when I am looking for close availability, and possibly price, I shop there as a last resort and you do get what you pay for. The place is run like a Night Market sales stall. Staff treat you as a passing interest and honest sales information is lacking. In my experience they will tell you what you need to hear to get a sale. The ROK house brand is cheaply made, but serves a purpose if you want disposable quality. They are the only major tool dealer in central Vancouver and likely get much of their business as a result of location. read more

They sell name brand and in house brands. I bought an in house brand hand tool and the metal was flaking apart as i used it. This concrete chisel looked good when new but was like flaking cast iron when used. After seeing the damage to the blade from only 4 or five impacts I took it back. The manager refused to even discuss the quality of the metal and just refused any adjustment. I have used this type of tool many times and will stay away from any Sonoma type products and buy from companies which will fairly back up their products. read more
