While trying to get in, I was a bit puzzled that the automatic door wasn't opening. I checked the other doors but they were exit only. Going back to the entrance I stepped closer to knock and the door opened. The sensor must be set for close proximity. After wandering around for awhile, I finally asked for help finding string. I recently purchased a brand new washing machine from this Home Depot. I . I couldn't have been more pleased with the good service I received . A gentleman by the name of Glen helped me . When I finally went to the Tudor Home Depot I had already spent 4-5 days looking at machines and reading reviews . I had been to all of the major appliance stores in town . I was actually treated rudely at Home Depot's major competitor on the Old Seward Highway so when I encountered Glen I felt like I had met a knight in shining armor . Home Depot is terrible, despite it's gigantic floor plan conning you into thinking "Oh it's so huge they must have everything!!" it's always horrendous trying to obtain the thing you need. If you look online before visiting the store you are soothed because they appear to have what you need but once you get there, that's not the case. For instance, we moved to a new house 2 years ago this month. First, we had to replace a washing machine. I researched the one i wanted, and Home Depot online had it. So we went and visited the store. Even finding a staff member to take my order was frustrating, i couldn't find anyone. Then he told me, "No, we don't have this in stock, it will be a special order - could be up to 6 months before you get it" Well, as the washing machine we were using was semi-broken, and leaking water, this wasn't what i wanted to hear. It took about 3 months if i remember correctly. They took the old one away and installed the new one though. But the main reason I'm writing a review is because of my most recent experience with my range. Ours was a 2nd hand one, several functions on the oven didn't work, so we decided to get a new one. Unfortunately it needed to be a very specific type of range - Downdraft - which is Quite old technology. Home Depot had 5 types online. On visiting the store, They only had 1 available. A Kitchenaid model costing $3239. And OF COURSE it would be a special order as they don't have any in stock and nor do any of the other Anchorage stores. I mean, i ask you we are the largest state in the USA, why is there no room for a warehouse that they can store their product? This really has me thoroughly outraged. Again, I'm told between 3 and 6 months for delivery. I was told to call in 5 weeks to be updated. I called in 5 weeks (March 17th) and they told me that it would be received on April 19th, which was one month and 2 days after i called for the update. We were in Palm Springs on April 19th, and i was anxiously awaiting that call, thinking "I'll have to ask them to defer delivery for a few days" Well, of course, i received no such call. We got back and i received a call just last week, stating that the next delivery date was May 1st so i took that spot. I asked the gentleman on the phone "Do the delivery guys install the new range, and take away the old range" he confirmed with me, that all appliances are installed, with the exception of dishwashers, and built in microwaves, so i rubbed my hands together with glee. I have an event on Friday, for which i need to bake on Thursday evening, and i was very much looking forward to doing so in my fancy new Kitchenaid oven. The delivery guy called and told me they were 25 minutes away. They arrived, and were saying that it has no power cord. Upon unboxing, we found it taped to the back. However, it was a 4 pin plug, and our old range has a 3 pin plug. They can do nothing.Then they tell us there's no ducting kit. My husband asks them "Is it not still in the box?" They swear up and down no it's not in the box. One of them goes out to the van to look, and comes back in with a box, saying, it was not in the box it was on the floor of the van. We were tempted to refuse delivery, as it could not be installed as promised Last night we went to Home Depot, we buy a 4 pin socket, and husband changed the socket last night. We start assembling the bits and pieces required to attach the Downdraft fan. There is no ducting pipe work. How on earth can this be ducted to the outside without ducting of some kind. Why is it not included? I just do not understand why it wouldn't be included in the package. My husband is cutting holes in the floor right now, in order to install this new fan, and had to purchase metal piping to create the necessary duct, which fortunately he watched countless Youtube videos for a way to duct this range. I don't have 1 working range. I have huge things sitting around, that i keep banging my hips off of. And as soon as Home Depot get your dollars, they pretty much sign off on it. I'm writing this review because i absolutely know, if i called them to express my frustration and anger, they would do nothing, and have no solutions for me. Fortunately i have a handy husband, and we WILL get this stupid thing installed eventually no thanks to you at all. I really hope and pray I don't ever have to purchase an appliance from you again, as I would do EVERYTHING in my power to obtain it elsewhere, because this is a nightmare. Go through Lowes for an appliance. They deliver, take away, and install. I so wish I did! I've had nothing but trouble since my fridge arrived in Anchorage three weeks ago! Being transferred numerously, going through numerous names of management shift names while being on hold close to a fukn hour each time!!! I recorded each call. The service times are between 6AM-8PM, so I stayed home all day. The 3rd company they use to deliver and install is a JOKE. I legit lost count after 5. I saved everything. How hard is it to follow directions to install? At this point, I believe the delivery/installer guys just pass the job onto whomever. With spring just around the corner, we stopped in to midtown Home Depot to take a look at some stone for some hardscaping we will be doing. We didn't see any of the samples inside the store and as I passed a gentleman that worked there, I inquired. He said they were easily accessible outside and walked us out there to see them. We chatted with Don a bit, asked a few questions and were on our way. He was very nice and informative. I visited the Tudor Home Depot. I purchased $342.00. I presented my veteran's card for my 10% discount. I did not review my ticket until later. I found that I did not receive a discount. I returned to the store to speak with a representative and a supervisor. I was told that my purchase - 3 sheets of plywood and 6 composite lattice sheets were consider commercial construction products. I am not a commercial contractor nor was this to be used commercially. I have not had any problems with previous. I found that their reply was seriously lacking. Home Depot is not the only hardwood store. A letter I sent to Home depot: Home Depot: Why you don't want to support the Home Depot brand and Rigid! I took the advise of a woodworking magazine, even before the magazine figured out how problematic the Rigid brand could be. While technically live in anchorage, Alaska, I predominantly use my tools elsewhere, Seldovia, Bethel, and other remote locations. ( read: a long drive, or flight, inconveniently distanced from a Home Depot) I purchased an orbital disk sander and a shop vac, both Rigid. I went to Z---, manager at the Tudor Road Home Depot, with disappointing results: I explained: While the orbital disc sander worked as advertised. I soon discovered in seldovia that the local hardware store does not sell a disc that would fit. The next time I flew to Homer, I discovered that both Spenards and True Value don't sell discs that will fit. Welcome to your Home Depot experience. You have to travel all the way to Kenai to get discs that will fit, thats a 1.5 hour boat ride and a 70 mile drive. Had I purchase any other brand of orbital disc sander, I could have continued my project after a 1 mile walk, or 2 minute drive. My Shop Vac: Same story. Not only did the shop vac only use filters obtainable by Home Depot. I now have a shop vac that is useless to me. While I could probably find a filter online, I can't even purchase from my local Home Depot a filter available only a few years ago. He argued that if I needed a ford part, I had to get it from ford, Arguing was his mental go to: trying to make my day better was not. He is incorrect, as I explained: Consumables a car uses: Gas, Oil, Anti-freeze, Windshield fluid,Power steering fluid, brake pads. He even argued that I'd need to get brake pads from ford. How absolutely WRONG can you be. I purchase off brands from Shucks, Napa, and Bosch. Consumables of products are virtually always designed in such a way to keep your customer using the product. examples: My Kenmore Vacuum cleaner. I can get bags for my vac. at Target, Walmart, Fred Meyers, etc... Ford Car. I can get starters, tires, belts, fluids, etc from any auto parts store, ANY! I'm looking at a Signature brand stapler on my desk. I can use any staple brand out there. H.P. printer here in front of me. I can use any brand of paper, even OFF BRAND INK! I have told, and will continue to tell any any one I run into about the marketing practices of Home Depot. Making a tool such that you have to return to a Home Depot, to refill your consumables is, well, frankly, Buii$#it! Get a DeWalt or something, stay working with local consumables! I realize that swearing in a letter lends less credit to the author. But it is only mildly descriptive of the frustration, and anger one feels when you are in the middle of a project, and unexpectedly run through quickly your consumables on hand and the nearest hardware store can't help you. Z---, The store manager in the Tudor Store, had a perfect opportunity to provide outrageously positive customer service, that would have guaranteed my return. While I had used it, He might have offered to take the vacuum back. He was inappropriately condescending, Condescending in that his arguments about comparing consumables of cars were the save as Rigid, I mean, he actually said that I'd have to get a starter or brake pads from ford. Z---, is not the kind of person you want managing one of your stores. Not one time did he agree with anything I said, an important element of customer service. Not one time did he offer a solution, other than ordering consumables online? ( would you be satisfied ordering power steering fluid online if all of the cars in your town were on the road using any generic brand) Ask the struggling "Best Buy" brand, do you really want your customers surfing for products online. Best Buy is having a hard time marketing because the internet is a vicious competitor. If the managers suggestion is that I get support for my product from online: Then why in the world would I purchase anything Rigid ever again? When I could get a Porter Cable, or Craftsman, or...etc. product from amazon, and then get consumables from a local hardware store. Whenever I see the Rigid brand vac in my garage I get angry. One star is too high There is a reason this store has a low rating. Came in with a return today, no hello, no customer service, just a rude "return"? From Toni who appeared physically put out that I was standing there. The other 4 staff members behind the service counter were just as apathetic, one of them in charge didn't even engage or help after Toni walked away after I said "hello to you as well" with a surprised look on my face. The next agent to help me wasn't much better. Also annoyed by the situation (doing her job), and my dismay at the way I was being treated. I started off with a smile when I walked up to a service counter with one person finishing up and walking away. No wait today I thought. I look, and no tool. Ask again and am told her computer says it's on aisle 9. I once again tell her no it is not. I ask her to physically show it to me. She refuses. Last year I purchased a new front door and set of kitchen French doors at this Home Depot. I could have installed them myself but I thought how nice it would be to have someone else do all the work. Unfortunately when the installation crew showed up it consisted of one guy, alone, only about 20 years old and he couldn't have weighed more than 120 pounds. He was a really nice guy and a good worker but there is no way one small guy can install a large set of pre-hung French doors by himself. Hell the whole assembly weighed about 300 pounds. I ended up helping and doing about half the work. The next day I called Home Depot to complain about the installation and asked for half of the installation fee to be refunded. I am ok with helping the guy but I shouldn't pay full price when only one guy showed up. Home Depot management referred me to the subcontractor they used for the installation and told me to take it up with them. I then became really pissed off. I purchased the doors from Home Depot not the subcontractor. Home Depot selected the subcontractor and therefore fully responsible for their actions - or there lack of. I was not even offered an apology. This is absolutely the wrong approach to customer service. That night I sold all of my Home Depot stock. I know this measly gesture of revenge means nothing to the company, but it made me feel good. Some time later I received a customer service survey in the mail, requesting feedback about my recent purchase. I replied with the same story as above and expected some type of response from senior management. I have received no response what so ever. I would have been happy with an apology, a coupon or possibly my installation fee refunded. Their total indifference at every stage only served to intensify my disaffection. I was in Anchorage visiting my sister and her boyfriend Manny and helping them move. Moving boxes were required, and we knew The Home Depot sold them, so we drove to the store. Neither Manny, nor myself knew where the moving boxes were kept so we started looking for a sales associate to point us in the right direction. There was a male and female employee near the front of the store talking to each other. The male had the female cornered in between a couple of freezers and you could tell he was trying to flirt with/sexually harass her. We walk up to them and the female gestures to the male with a head twitch that we were standing behind him. He continues spitting his game for a few more seconds, then he turns around to acknowledge our existence. Manny - "Do you sell moving boxes?" Douche - "Yes, we sell moving boxes." He looks at his co-worker with a smirk on his face. After a few seconds he then says, "Oh...would you like me to tell you where they are?" Manny - "Yeah, that would be great." Douche - "Ha ha...they're over on aisle blah blah blah..." Manny and I look at each other in disbelief at what just happened and walk towards the boxes. To my surprise, they were actually where Douche told us they were. After his 3rd Grade antics I thought he would have directed us to the toilet section, because toilets are hilarious to him. Who knows how his mind works. Anyone who knows the Kenai Home Depot is well aware of the shoddy customer service that exists there. Went in to order a fridge - very simple, right? One right out of the ads in the paper... Not so easy. I can understand why this company is in trouble. I started at the special order / customer service desk, and after 5 minutes of listening to someone on the phone with a non customer service conversation, they finally took the time to tell me I was going to have to go find an associate and have them help me. Ok... After searching for someone in appliances, I found one, but they were helping someone else - so I waited another 15 minutes or so, and saw other associates come & go, then when I finally DID get help, I learned that the "sale" price wasn't the "Alaska" price, and it would be more expensive. Also, wanted Bisque color? More time to order and more cost. They said free delivery? Not in Alaska. Basically I ordered the fridge, paid for it, and I MAY have it in 5-10 weeks, and I have to trust them to call me and set up delivery once it gets here. They don't even act like they want your business here. Customer service and treatment are SEVERELY lacking. Won't be giving this place business if I can help it - veterans discount over at Lowes. read more

I came into home depot looking for tile. The type that I wanted was not in stock so i was looking for an employee so I can ask if they can check. I asked an employee if i can get assistance, but they said it's not their department so they called someone else. About 5 employees walk past me and don't ask if I need help. I was waiting for about 25 minutes WITHOUT being helped and I go to customer service to see if they can do anything but they just say their trying to locate their employee that works for flooring. Who would care to review Home Depot unless they had a bad experience? They are there as a local necessity business. But when I had a good customer service, I opened an account on Yelp to write about them. When I asked a worker there to cut my plywood panel to many different size pieces with their machine, he did the job patiently following my specifications. It took about 15 minutes and I knew he was busy with his own thing when I asked. When I tried to give some tips, he said he wouldn't, can't take tips from customers and he was happy to help a customer. Good policy and attitude. After that experience, I realized the workers there are sincerely hard workers, and they want to do a good job. Without this experience, I would never think of Home Depot or the workers there, But he changed my view. Thank you. Also, recently, I've purchased several kitchen cabinets for my new business. Holy crap, I feel bad for Robert's experience. On the flipside, I was shopping for totes and plastic tables, and the service was extremely helpful. I could not reach the tote lids and someone saw me and asked quickly if I needed help. Also when I picked up a table, it wasn't actually for sale, it was an extra they kept in the store for display, so one guy actually went to get me another one as I waited at the checkstand. I am giving 3 stars as I have always found the prices to be good and the employees very pleasant. I am older and especially during the winter when it gets dark so early I am often in the parking lot in the dark. On almost all occasions I have been approached by someone in the parking lot asking for money. This is not Home Depot's fault but that is the reason I will choose to shop at another Home Depot if I cannot go during the day. I really don't know what the answer is for businesses who have a lot of homeless people accosting their customers in the parking lot. I know it is not something the business like either but it does become their problem when their customers will no longer shop there unaccompanied. I have a friend in South Carolina who works for a large bank. They started to have that trouble in the downtown branch. They hired a security guard who immediately goes up and offers to walk the customer to the bank. This has really cut down on their problem. When the security guard does this the homeless person usually just walked away. read more

I've had some decent experiences at Lowe's, but unless someone gives me a gift card I'm shopping here. Staff are experienced and can give me decent advice on home projects and the prices are generally cheaper than the competition. I wanted to get my grill out of the garage and onto the patio but didn't want to expose it to the elements so I looked online and found a grill cover with shipping to be $38. Called local Lowe's and found it to be $33. Stopped in to HD for some fixtures and found the grill cover for $31. Yup, lower every time. read more

We are remodeling a kitchen for a house that we recently bought. I had low expectations going into Home Depot seeking help with the kitchen design. Then...I met Gary. Through our time together I learned rhat This guy spent almost 2 decades honing his skills at Spenards and now he is sharing his expertise with Home Depot customers. I got lucky when he happened to be the person behind the desk. Then we set up multiple appts and completed the design. Gary is very patient and detail-oriented. We must have spent at least 6 hrs together designing the kitchen from a blank slate. He knows what he is doing. We just completed a different total home remodel in Juneau and Gary knows as much or more than the guys who have worked at Valley Lumber for decades(they were amazing too.) They don't make them like Gary anymore so I hope they find a way to hang onto him! read more

Positively the worst experience I have had building my new house. I ordered nearly $10,000 of garage doors almost 3 months ago- I was told they would be delivered in 4-6 weeks. No one has returned my multiple calls. When I finally was able to get ahold of a manager his response was "what do you expect me to do? They aren't here." I told him that I needed a way to secure my house as the lack of garage doors left it completely vulnerable; I recommended he supply some plywood as he told me it would be another 2-3 weeks. The manager smirked and said "yeah right. There's nothing I can do. You need to call the (home depot) installer". I also spoke to a female manager "Erika" who was so rude and claimed to be so busy she wouldn't even hear my story. I was told by the manufacturer that they were shipped a month ago. Home Depot claims they were shipped yesterday. In talking to managers from several other Home Depot stores- they have all said that this Home Depot has a horrible reputation. The other store managers have even called the Tudor store and spoken to the Tudor managers on my behalf and they have had no further luck. I have several complaints into cooperate. DO NOT GO HERE! If anything goes wrong, the response is literally, "tough, we took your money, now it's not our problem". read more

I actually just bought a door there myself, and while I have not had it installed yet, I am fully aware that if my subcontractor shows up and is only 1 guy I can choose to help or not at my own discretion... And if I don't want to help, they [the subcontractor] would send someone to help their own guy...and if not, home depot is still responsible if they break my door. ;) At the store, however, a guy named Bill helped me and was without a doubt the nicest and most helpful customer service person I've ever had the pleasure of working with. He knew what the store's policies were and how they applied to me and my purchase (and the subcontractor), and he went out of his way to inform me of what was going to be involved with getting my door put in. I also got a great deal on the door - it happened to be on clearance because it was slow in moving (typical for AK btw).
