Michelle showed us an Instagram post from just 9 hours earlier and tipped us off about salmon fishing. She was incredibly knowledgeable and walked us through exactly what to do (I didn't totally follow but my husband did luckily). After already paying $$$$ for a guided fishing tour with no luck, we were honestly both excited and weren't sure if it's something we could do it on our own. But she was absolutely right!! We rented waders, fishing rods, and everything we needed right there, and followed her rod set up instruction and all the boys had an amazing time--ending up catching a large salmon (we could have caught more but we got to the river so late..) ! The rental process was easy and they had all the gear on hand. It was our first Alaskan trip and what could have been a pretty average trip turned into something unforgettable, thanks to Michelle and Dave. I've lived in Anchorage, Alaska for 60 years I've driven on the ice and the snow since I was 14 Our cars broke down so I needed a rental I rented at RAV4 "or similar" on the Internet When I get down there, the car given to me some Subaru cross track I thought all Subarus four-wheel-drive it's not what I really wanted but I figured big four-wheel-drive. It would work. NOT! Worse car on ice on the planet. Within 10 minutes I've done two 360s going down international Airport Road I thought maybe it was me Later on, it did another 360 spinning out going down northern lights I got out and looked at the tires Summer tires no studs! WTF!!! I thought what the fuck!!! I have more experience than 99.9% of the drivers in Anchorage And I found this car virtually undrivable I managed to get back to Avis At the airport And returned it I was given a different car To find out that snow, tires and studs are an extra expense! Not joking. Safety is extra!! Let me repeat that In Anchorage, Alaska, and the winter when it's snowing and slushy studs and winter tires are extra!! Are you absolutely fucking kidding me!! Worst financial customer service decision on a planet earth!! Clearly, putting safety second I cannot express in writing how irritated I am Good customer service at a bare minimum would've been to let me know that the car that i took driving has summer tires with no studs And that winter tires were out an option that was extra. These guys provide the greatest service because: --The gear they provide is always in excellent condition, you don't have to worry about being stranding with sub-standard equipment in the middle of no where. --They are expert outdoorspeople and can give you advice as you gear up. --They know the procedure of getting out into the bush--I want my rafts delivered to a local airfield for shipment outside Anchorage, and that is absolutely no problem, they know exactly what I am talking about. --They keep records and knew who I was when I phoned (nice!). --Had an email confirmation of my order to me within a half-hour. I recommend these guys without any reservations for your Alaskan gear needs for all your adventure trips.

We picked it up at the Anchorage office, drove it up to Talkeetna, then down to Seward, and dropped it off in Whittier. Very convenient to have the one-way trip allowance. Note: There is a charge for this convenience--as expected--but it's reasonable. Alaskan Car Rental can also provide car seats, which we utilized for our two kids. A good overall experience and friendly customer service.
