Becky and the management team are amazing. Beautiful place to live! The amenities are great and other tenants are well behaved.

The Hive is not the vibe. Here are some things that have happened to me or I have seen as I've been a student at UWL and have been living in this building: -When I moved in my room wasn't even clean. It was so dusty. They also never went through a damage sheet with me and I'm scared they're going to charge me when I move out even though they never went through the state of the room with me when I moved in. Also when I moved in my shower was clogged in my bathroom and I had the bathroom to myself. Just seemed odd. -They have the cheapest appliances I've ever used. They give you a literal bag to put your underwear and socks in for the washing machine because they are SO PRONE TO CLOGGING. Ours has clogged twice even if we only fill it a third of the way and we get charged each time for it. So we tried using the bag and every time our underwear and socks came out of the washing machine dry and not washed at all. I've been washing my underwear in the sink for months. I decided to move here because of in unit laundry and it wasn't worth it here. -Their "roommate matching" is a complete myth and they will not do switching for you guys. Just a heads up. -The parking lot always seems full, even if you have a pass. And if there is a chance of it snowing overnight they require you to park on the street overnight and get snowed in there instead. -There is no garbage disposal so you have to scrape slimy food out of the drains constantly and the sinks will always smell weird if you even rinse your dishes off. -The walls are paper-thin, as are the ceilings and floors. I hear every single step the people above me take, and many people in this building are very loud. Someone on the fourth floor literally dead lifts in their apartment even at 3am and its been so irritating. Overall it is so noisy and I cannot get a single school assignment done here. I have to go to campus every hour the library is open because some people are so loud. -Not the Hive's fault, but some people that live in the building are super irresponsible. Smoking inside, throwing their food like banana peels and old pizza on the carpet floors in the hallway and leaving it there to rot until a Hive employee cleans it up. Spraying fire extinguishers in the hallways and setting off the firearm multiple weeks in a row and having to stand outside in the cold at 2am because people decided to be idiots. It's so frustrating. -The police and fire department are here so often. -They also sometimes just close the patio off, so when I bought steaks to grill for dinner I was not able to cook them because they locked it for no reason, which was not in the lease agreement at all. -If you try to post a review anonymously they will refute it saying no one lives there with that name so I guess this is going to have my name on it. Oh well. -The workers have been nice and the maintenance guy has been helpful and quick to get here and fix things so I will say that. -Also my roommates, when asked by management if they were planning on resigning for next year, all said yes. All of them. And yet they told my roommates weeks later that they gave our apartment away to some other people for next year and they are SOL unless they want to move to a different apartment within the building and split us up with other randos. Hopefully I don't get retaliated against for posting this. :) Not trying to be rude at all but this is the truth. I am so sleep deprived, stressed, and overstimulated here. read more

Where do I begin? Living here was a disaster. The building was not complete when we moved in (although our rent stayed the same,) the "walls" (not real walls FYI -- some sort of closeting system) were paper thin and you could hear EVERYTHING between rooms, and offstreet parking was not in fact guaranteed, as the landlord didn't put towing signs out until the lease was already half over. Leasing agent was a complete tool, and very rude mind you, communication was lacking between the landlord and building managers on a very regular basis, the gym that and shopping spaces that were supposed to be completed were not done until the end of the lease, and overall, everything - although *looks* nice - was very, very, very cheap. Not to mention the fire alarms that would go off once every 3 weeks -- that was fun in the dead of Wisconsin winter! Pros - the grilling area (once it was completed 5 months into the lease,) the location is great because it is directly between campus and the bars - and close to Howie's, and the landlord was a nice guy who genuinely wanted to improve the problems that were occurring. Overall, I think the concept for this building was great, and maybe they are doing a little bit better this year. Jason, the landlord, is a super great guy, but his building manager Brook was full of himself, condescending, and unprofessional, and Bill didn't really know what was going on 90% of the time. Because of all of the problems with my leasing experience, I would definitely not recommend this place to live...if it would have been done right, it could have been a gold mine. Hopefully for Jason, he will be able to turn things around... I will say, though, that if I were to recommend this place, it would be to a college sophomore. It's kind of a perfect place for a post-dorm life to still meet people and still act "immature..." Juniors and Seniors, I don't think this is the place for you. read more

Wow!! This is the worst place I have ever lived! do not waste your money. It may look "nice" but everything is very cheap. They really cut corners when it came to the walls. They are thin as paper. If someone is in the other room watching tv, you can hear everything clear as day. Please please do not stay there and make the same mistake I did! The Hive is a great new place for college students and other people to live while going to college and work. While the rent may be higher then many other rental properties it is the best in the city. College students from all areas of the state and other states living together and meeting new friends will always be a learning experience. They have a selection process to have all renters compatible with their room mates. The free gym membership and other amenities make this a great value. Don't let the HIve's modern atmosphere fool you. It is over priced, the walls are paper thin and the windows (which are all new) grow mold. It gets extremely humid when its warm outside and FREEZING when it is cold. Utilities are not included so it makes it even more of a challenge to turn on the AC or Heating. The worst part is.. the Hive has the police go through each level at 10 o'clock on weekends. Music doesn't even have to be playing for them to knock on your door. They WILL hand out tickets. I suggest living elsewhere. read more

Here is one of the few honest reviews that you will ever read about the Hive. I say honest, because the management offers tenants reduced rents to write positive reviews about the Hive. The Hive seems like a great place to live at at first, but over time you'll realize that everything is cheaply made. For nearly $700 a month you think you'd get an apartment that isn't a POS. The furniture that it comes with isn't built to last and if it does break you're out of luck because it will end up coming out of your security deposit at the end of the year. The wifi was included, but it was the shittiest wifi available. You're trying to watch Netflix while your roomie is watching Netflix? Nope! One of your internet's won't end up loading. The walls are paper thin. I could hear my room mates from the other end of the apartment. They advertise parking, but there are many times that you will get back to the hive and there will not be any parking so you have to park on the streets anyways. Also, the parking spots are extra small because they tried to fit in as many as possible so expect to get door dings and scratches if you use their lot. The rooms are incredibly tiny and there isn't a lot that the apartment has to offer. One of the few perks is the location, but I would have much rather lived in a different apartment in the same area. I was a transfer student so the roomie matching was good for me and I lucked out with my roommates, but I know of other people who live in the hive who were not properly matched up with their roommates, it's like they just picked people out of a hat and were like "They can live together". A final pro is that they will fix the cheap things that break in a timely manner. With all the negatives being said, some of the workers there are very helpful when there is an issue you have, which is why I gave it 2 stars verses 1. read more

Our daughter interned in La Crosse for the summer. Having to find an apartment several states away, sight unseen was made so much easier when we began working with Brook Martin at "the Hive". He was courtious, honest, and his response time was great. The property and apartment were everything he stated. Clean, secure, and modern. For college living we don't think there is anyplace more suitable. Nice gym right down stairs. Having two large bathrooms for 4 girls was perfect. He did a great job of "matching" roommates and the result was our daughter had a wonderful experience and as parents we felt confidant that she was in a safe place. Off street parking and the central location is a plus. She will be back next summer and we will once again look to have her reside at the Hive. I would recommend this location for any incoming student. read more

The Hive is 100% NOT worth the price, I would never recommend living here for any circumstance, not only are the walls paper thin and you can hear people all the way down the hallway, you have absolutely no privacy in your own room because everyone in your apartment can hear everything going on in your room even with the door shut. On that same note, everything in the apartment is actually super cheap quality, looks nice in pictures but the beds are horrendous if you have back issues like me; not only are they as comfy as a rock but they squeak every time you even shift you weight. I was also disgusted when I would use the stairs instead of the elevator and I would see EVERYTHING you could imagine on my walk down; blood from a fight on the walls, someones used pad stuck to the floor, and someones trash sitting at the bottom of the stairs for days making the entire stairway reek. Also the roommate pairing program that they tell you that you can switch if you have a problem is a complete LIE, not only did they not tell me who I was living with until like a month before move in they completely overbooked the rooms making it IMPOSSIBLE to switch rooms even if you are having issues with the people they assigned you to live with. The management tells you that they care about you as a person but that too is a lie, the hive is only focused on making more money for themselves and their exercise classes are often cancelled because there are "not enough people" Oh and if you do decide to live here even after reading this entire thing, I hope you like the smell of egg rolls because every day when you walk outside no matter what time it is, it will smell like egg rolls. read more

I am currently living in The Hive. It is everything you could possibly want in an apartment complex. They are very nice, new, modern apartments. The rooms come with almost everything already furnished. The living room comes with a television, couch, loveseat along with a coffee table. The bedrooms come with a bed frame and mattress, desk, small two drawer dresser along with shelving in the wall for storage. The managers are good about getting back to you quickly if you have any questions, if you need anything fixed or if you get locked out of your bedroom. They do a great job of matching roommates together, I am planning on living with my current roommates next year as well. The Hive also has grill outs on the deck. They threw a concert on the deck as well last fall that was really fun. The only negative things about the hive is that while there is a parking lot, spaces are not always available in the winter so you need to park on the street and the bedroom walls are very thin. The benefits of living at The Hive outweigh the negatives however. read more

DO NOT LIVE HERE!! My roommates and I came right out of freshmen year looking for an easy move- the pictures looked great and it seemed like a fun atmosphere, do NOT let this fool you. The walls (like everyone states) are paper thin. They aren't even walls but in fact, ​bookshelves stacked next to each​ other to divide the rooms. Remember that this is very expensive and does not include utilities. Currently, ​The Hive has contacted the La Crosse Police Department to do strolls floor to floor to see if there is loud music, partying, etc. This is not a place for college students because you will get fined a huge amount of money just for a noise complaint. $126 dollars each to be exact. Just for "too loud" of music. The only positive that I can think of is that the management​ is very kind however it is not worth living here. You can find A LOT better for A LOT cheaper. Save money and stress and don't live here. read more
