Food took a bit but was very good. The colors were so beautiful and vibrant. Merchandise was super cute.

Makai iced tea with jasmine green tea and butterfly pea flower tea
Edith S.

Muggy day in Hilo and after a walk around Alaska Falls, I needed to quench my first. Luckily, when driven up to the falls, we saw a few shops all lined up. Luckily, one of them was The Hive. As soon as I parked and before checking the other stores, I put my order and they had a Butterfly Pea Tea combo. I had to have it and mew I was going to Yelp It. The iced tea hit the spot, not too sweet at all. While waiting for my drink, the one employee was making a chicken salad sandwich that looked really good. Btw, all menu items are reasonably my priced. The store is super cute. If u lived here, I would spend some quiet time here either studying or reading. It wasn't noisy at all. Very comfortable. No bathroom though, you'll have to walk down to the General Store for that. Thank you Hi e for the hospitality.

Cute little cafe near Akaka Falls with friendly service. Lots of fun drinks, cafe bites, and homemade crafts to browse while you wait. I tried "The Hawaiian" matcha with macadamia milk and pineapple syrup. My partner chose an unsweetened "Makai" tea, which was jasmine green tea with butterfly pea flower. Beautiful and refreshing drinks on a hot July day!

Nice drink menu of coffees, specialty lattes, matcha, teas and food! Very friendly staff, cute products for sale and comfortable indoor seating! We got a vanilla cappuccino and the Persian princess matcha...very tasty!

Beautiful cafe close to the goat dairy and akaka state falls. The lady inside the shop was working the hardest because she made drinks for a bunch of people who came in the shop before us and then still managed to make the best avocado sandwich I've ever had in my life. The combination of flavors was so good. The avocado itself was delicous and I'm Def gonna say Hawaiian avocados are the best in the world, so mild and buttery. The balsamic drizzle was so good with it and the presentation of the plate was absolutely beautiful, absolutely worth the price. The egg was perfectly cooked, a bit runny to drip down onto the bread. Our coffees were amazing as well. The honey girl was yummy. I loved this place and everything about it.

Cute little smoothie/drink shop before going to the Akaka Falls hike. My kids ordered the grilled cheese and though I'm the biggest sourdough fan my kids are not. They were thrown off by the yellow color of the bread. I took a bite of it for the benefit of the doubt and it was just an average grilled cheese to me. I ordered the chicken salad wrap and added bacon and avocado. The wrap is filled generously and is so delicious, my oldest who is a picky eater actually enjoyed it. The strawberry fields matcha was super refreshing after the hike. I'm not a matcha connoisseur but it was good enough for me.

Popped in here after going to the falls. Very cute shop with lots of little knick knacks and good coffee with specialty flavors. A good place to stop for a refreshment.

Cute find in Honomu on our way to Hilo from Akaka Falls! We had a healthy lunch - chicken salad wrap and Mediterranean wrap with bacon, plus a couple of POG Shaka Teas. These wraps were healthy, light, satisfying and ono! We loved our impromptu lunch, and the service was friendly and helpful. Check out their beautiful patio space in the back where you can also enjoy your meal. They have cute gifts in their gift shop side. Lots of locally made cute things to buy! I bookmarked this place for the next time we are in the area. Mahalo nui loa!

Avocado toast supreme.

Cute little spot with highly quality food beautifully presented. Avocado toast was served with goat cheese and balsamic vinegar balanced to perfection.

Amazing place on the way to and from Akaka Falls. Easy parking out front. The Banana Bread latte is so good, there is nothing like it! No added sugar but it tastes sweet. We also got a Don't Tell Her To Calm down which was yummy and unique with flowers on top. The service was excellent!

Located just…read morebelow Akaka Falls in the old Ishigo General Store, you can find some of my favorite jams and jellies on the planet. The tall gentleman standing next to me is Mr. Ed and he has retired, but his daughter now runs the operation. He is so proud of his creations that we got to try endless amounts of samples (as seen in the photo with the open lid jars). This place is a great place to pick up some snacks, pastries, shave ice and even a story or two from Mr. Ed. He loves to talk about the past, his family and also asks about yours. These are a few selections that I haven't given away yet and knowing that I'm from Oahu they wrapped each and every jar in paper and sealed each with a Ziploc bag. They also pack and ship their items anywhere in the United States. #bigboyproblems

Mr. Ed himself helped my husband and I decide on many pastries to try and none of them disappointed! I only snapped a photo of one, as the others we'd eaten before I even thought to take photos. They were too good to wait! While getting our pastries, Mr. Ed was also kind enough to share some of his story and it was wonderful to hear directly from the shop owner why he is there and his love for the island and the town. The shop is cozy and feels family ran so it was just a lovely stop on the big island for not only delicious baked treats, but wonderful company as well.

Spaces were full when I arrived so I parked across the street in the lot for the park. Very casual place with small menu. There is a gift shop type area for local purchases and a fruit stand on site. I ordered a smoothie and pork tacos from the menu. Tacos were good. Smoothie was refreshing. Menu selection is small but with a decent amount of variety. I would recommend for a quick bite or a smoothie stop.

The menu might be small, but it packs serious flavor. The Ono sandwich was, well, *ono*! Perfectly cooked protein, fresh veggies, and a tangy sauce that brought it all together -- simple, fresh, and unforgettable. And don't even get me started on the Kalua pork tacos -- tender, smoky, and paired with just the right amount fresh tomatoes. The setting was relaxed and rustic, with just the right amount of charm. We grabbed a shaded table outside and enjoyed our food while soaking in the peaceful surroundings. It felt like we'd discovered a local secret. If you're in the area sightseeing or taking in waterfalls, do yourself a favor and stop by. Great food, and a perfect slice of island life. This place is a true treasure!
