Haven't been out to JR's in forever but now that the weather has taken a turn for the better we'll probably head out that way more often! Well, not only that, we'll be returning to JR's more often for the fantastic breakfast! I order Chicken Fried Steak & Eggs no matter where I go when going out to breakfast. It's something I don't make at home so it's the only time I get it. Most are the same, those perfect little mystery meat deep fried golden patties with crispy edges and a nice tender middle! I love them!! The difference is the gravy, which many restaurants treat as an after thought. They just slop some gooey gray stuff on top and think the rest will carry the plate. Not the case here at JR's! The gravy was just as good as everything else! Eggs cooked perfectly to order, server attentive and friendly, drinks tasty and refreshing! They don't serve huge portions that you won't be able to finish in two meals either, it's a nice portion that most men will finish and be able to wipe up those last morsels with the toast and most women will come close! The only reason for a 4 star instead of 5 is the wait you have to endure if you want to play those fun little pull tab things. I feel, whether I order a drink, food or $20 in pull tabs, I shouldn't have to wait until everybody in the place has been served at least once, some twice, before I get them! Both times I asked for pull tabs I had to wait until the server went around taking other peoples orders and checking on others before my request was even considered! We'll definitely be back, just might stick to the food and drinks though and keep my gamblin' money for the casino! read more

We sat in the bar. The waitress stopped by a few times before being ready to take our order. But she did take our drink and food orders at the same time. Lots of great choices for beer including many on tap and I had a lovely pear cider on tap. My friend ordered a diet Coke because that's what she wanted. The waitress brought a diet Pepsi which you know is way sweeter and she couldn't drink it. The waitress didn't say they carried Pepsi not Coke products and didn't tell her is was not exactly what she ordered. And when the drink level didn't change, she never asked if she could get her anything else. The chili was great as were the chicken wings and mozzarella sticks. The rest of the food was mediocre. The onion rings were soggy on the inside probably from frozen, same with the fries. They had 5 TVs and we were able to catch parts of both the Cubs game and the World Cup. Nice and roomy in the bar with two pool tables. Kinda pricey for what you get, $85 for lunch for 4 and one round of drinks. Come for the sports bar and drinks, not the food, if you want something more than fill-yer-belly. read more

Went here for brunch today after a off road trip to tahuya. Hands down the best crab cake eggs Benedict I've had in Washington. Coming from South Carolina with places like Toast (if you haven't been you need to) this place can compete. I am so incredibly impressed with the eggs Benedict I've been thinking about it all day. They also made a killer Bloody Mary and a coffee with baileys (yeah yeah you can't mess the coffee with Baileys up but whip cream for days!) only thing I wasn't impressed with: the greasy thin bacon and the hash browns were a little too soft-- I should have ordered them crispy. This place looks a little rough on the outside. Heck, it looks a little rough on the inside, too But if you are looking for good food, looks can be deceiving. Awesome burgers! Screamin' hot, crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside French fries. BLTs with good tomatoes(in the winter!), crunchy lettuce, piles of bacon and perfectly toasted bread. You will get happily full! Can be really busy on weekends and in the summer, but worth the wait. Oh, yeah, great service, too! read more

Driving through the area and needed some breakfast. Greeted with a smile when we walked through the door, the servers were all cheery and upbeat, which is awesome. Good, down home breakfast was had. The omeletes are huge. Next time we'll sit in the bar to watch sports on the huge TVs. read more

After an incredibly long, emotional day, I stopped into The Hideaway to pick up lunch for a friend and myself. I noticed that my car battery had died, so while I was inside I asked for some assistance. Long story short, the wonderful waitress on duty at the time bent over backwards to help me get my car going. She was friendly, patient, kind, and went above and beyond her job requirements for me. I see this happening a lot with this lovely little family joint. And, oh yes- the food was fantastic. read more

They just keep getting better! The food in the last few months has improved in quality and quantity. My wife and I had breakfast there this morning and when the waitress brought our meal and asked if we needed anything else, I replied "a box". I knew we were never going to be able to eat it all! My all meat omelette was amazing. I was right, I couldn't finish it. Get out a ruler and mark off 1 & 3/4 inches. That's how thick my omelette was, from end to end, not just in the middle (I did actually measured it, at home) My wife loves their biscuits and gravy. She always raves about the gravy and loves the homemade biscuits. She had a half order today, and I was right, she couldn't finish it. Side Note: try the calamari, I've eaten calamari in some pretty fancy places and even I had a hard time believing how good it was. If you haven't tried JR's in awhile, or were disappointed in the past, give 'em another shot - I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. read more

After leaving a amazing stay at the alderbroke resort and spa, me and my hubby decided to stop in to JR'S Hideaway for a bite to eat before heading home. I must say it was AMAZING, best diner we have ever been too!! Waitress was kind and very attentive. The food tasted incredible; it was hot, served in a timely manner and great portions. I was participating in a geocaching event and JR's was the place we were all going to meet up afterward. I was a little worried that the crowd would overwhelm the place, but as I was waiting inside, I noticed the food looked pretty good. A table opened up, and my buddy and I grabbed it. Wait staff were doing a fantastic job managing the 90+ people that had come in. While it did take a while to get our food, they were super troopers about it, keeping the drinks coming. My hamburger was great, and I loved that I could get it with cheddar cheese and a side of sweet potato fries. Price was reasonable, too. Very glad I ate there and would eat there again the next time I'm in Belfair. read more

This place is excellent! Stopped in after reading the reviews and was greatly impressed. If you're looking for a roadside grill with great burgers and bar food, this is your place. Had a burger and a couple beers in the bar. The burger was hands down one of the best I've had in a long time. You can tell this place really concentrates on making great burgers. The menu was huge too with so many good things. The service was great for a bar. Had a very nice server who got my name and treated me like a million bucks. The place was clean and well managed. The price was completely reasonable. Really have nothing but great and complimentary things to say about JR's. I will definitely be back. read more

Went to this restaurant around 730 on a Saturday night and had the pleasure of meeting Sandie the waitress. It took a while to have our order taken but overall the service was friendly. The food was really good. I ordered the barbecue chicken that came with mashed potatoes with country sausage gravy, corn on the cob and corn bread-a real carb delite! My family ordered the chicken marsala that was the best! They also have a kids menu with generous portions for the little guys. We will definitely go back if we get the chance. read more

My Dad has been here for more the a few times and he took us for a Sunday breakfast. He said there were places just as good but he likes the friendly waitresses. He was right about that, when we walked in, he had to introduce us to his regular waitress. Excellent small town friendly atmosphere. I had the BBIB (Best Breakfast in Belfair), basically a scramble with ham, eggs, and potatoes. Not super huge like you get in some places but it was enough. My only complaint is that the potatoes should have been cooked a little more before putting them in the scramble. It might be better with chunked potatoes instead of hashbrowns. Meg and Joe had a skillte for a couple of dollars more. It looked about the same but I think it also had bacon and sausage. my dad had french toast and egss that was just fine. Good food, friendly service....not a bad place to become a regular. read more

I've been here 3 times now and I've loved each time. The diner seating is on the left from the entrance and the bar area is on the right. There isn't much decor in the dining section, but it's a family owned and run place. The bar area looks very much like any sports bar with pool tables and games, as well as Seahawks everywhere. The first time I came here was with my blind aunt and they were very accommodating. We had a new waitress then, but the service was still great. I got a regular hamburger with sweet potato fries, my aunt got a Buffalo burger. The food came out quickly and was delicious. The portions were large so we both had left overs for another day. The second time I came here was with my boyfriend, aunt and uncle. My uncle got breakfast for dinner, but he wasn't pleased with it. We were informed that there were new kitchen staff for the dinner time and they hadn't made many of the breakfast items. I got a taco salad which was really delicious and shared some of it with my boyfriend who liked the fired shell. My boyfriend got the Trident which is a chicken and bacon sandwich and he enjoyed it. My aunt got a cheese burger and she finished it! The third time my boyfriend and I came back and it was late. We had both had long days at work and we were moving to Tacoma the next day so we had been packing on our free time. It was probably 9:30 PM and we were starving so we went to our favorite traditional american restaurant. The dining area was closed but they served us in the bar area. It was interesting to see the difference. It's louder but the energy of the room is higher as well. The server/bar tender was nice and our food came out quickly. I had the chicken strips and my boyfriend had fish and chips with an order of garlic fries. The food was delicious and we had left overs because it was too much. I miss this place now that we've moved but once we visit our aunt and uncle we will probably stop here again. best burgers in Belfair and also nice hours for those of us who have late shifts. read more

Stopped here for lunch on a Monday on the way back from Union after reading reviews, especially after noting they had reubens on the menu. We were greeted by a enthusiast young woman who, though she looked like high-school jailbait, later informed us that she was studying structural engineering in college. (My clueless, but wonderful, partner asked: "What grade are you in?") A nice touch was the hand cut snowflakes attached to the windows and the Christmas village made of cookie dough on a half-sheet pan. Only one other couple was having lunch and another couple was in back at the bar. The TV was not turned up too loud. The sandwich menu is very extensive. Service was fast and everything was generally better the just OK. My reuben was very good except for the added cheese, an unusual but American addition. The shoe string sweet potato fries were OK. My partner's chicken quesadilla, ordered w/o cheese, was tasty and accompanied by a very good salsa. We shared an excellent, apparently homemade, blackberry pie. The coffee was hot and weak as expected, but no refills. We enjoyed our lunch and will be back. read more

After staying at Robinhood Village cottages we stopped here for breakfast. The staff was friendly Donna is awesome! She recommended the eggs Benedict and she was spot on! That was the best Benedict I've ever had! I highly recommend JRs Hideaway. My kids had lunch here and said that had a great lunch, as well. read more

Stopped in for lunch after a walk at the nature preserve nearby. Wait staff is funny and clearly loves their job. Had sausage and eggs - my eggs were supper runny so I didn't love them but my husband had the Everything burger (no bun) with coleslaw. He loved it, and the coleslaw was awesome. Father in law had a taco salad that looked amazing and the shell was made fresh. Mother in law had scrambled eggs and bacon with toast, she ate it all so that's a good sign!! Stopped here for lunch on our way home. The server/hostess was very personable and caring. Ordered the roast beef dip sandwich with steak fries and a side of deep fried pickles. The bun was lightly toasted and and still soft, roast beef was very tender with a smokey flavor. The au jus was the perfect compliment. Great service, good food. read more

I loved this place. My husband and I went there for the first time this week. I got the NY steak & he got the pulled pork burger. The food was great & we ended up having to take the left overs home. The best part was the service though. We didn't realize that the restaurant closed at 8 and we got there at 7:40. But instead of rushing us our server let us know we just had to get our food order in before the kitchen close and otherwise we could take as long as we liked. Our server was super friendly, quick with our drinks & our food. We also told her that we had just moved to the area and she gave us tips on places to try or and also tips obsessed coming back to JR's (plan on a long wait for breakfast since it gets packed, summer and winter hours, etc.) . We will totally be making this place a regular stop add the food is really good and we felt so well treated. read more

This place is hit or miss. Went in yesterday(sunday) with my family of 4 to celebrate my daughter's 15th birthday. It started out ok but went bad quickly. My hubby ended up sick all night and missing 10 hours of work. We ordered nachos which were pretty good as an appetizer. Unfortunately my biscuits and gravy looked horrible. The gravy was separated and you could see the oil sitting on top. The scrambled eggs were not incorporated so you could still see the white vs. the yolk. I sent it back. Then half way into my hubbies burger we discover that it is raw. RAW ground beef. Not just a little pink. So we pay and leave. Spent almost 70$ for a family of 4 to have undercooked beef patties and basic frozen fries. We used to love this place now it's a rip off. Please who ever owns this needs to get a better cook and tell your wait staff to stop chit chatting with customers to the extent my kids French fries were cold. They weren't even super busy at 2pm on a Sunday. Only a few tables total. I think I'll be calling the health department to request an inspection. Something seems very fishy here. Huge portions. Giant. My kids were blown away by how big their food was. Wife liked hers. I got a burger that was burned to a crisp. The first thing we noticed when we arrived was the failure of most of the wait staff to wear masks, which maybe isn't quite as scary as it used to be, but we still prefer deferring to this protocol at least while we are getting seated and up to when the food is served. The food, by the by, was good, although it had its drawbacks. I had very berry pancakes (Breakfast IS served all day!) The pancakes were the last to arrive at our table of four (about 10 minutes after the first three were served) and with all the berries in the middle were quite soggy. Once our waitress delivered the first three orders, we never saw her again. We had been abandoned, and I was left trying not to gaze at everyone else's plate longingly. The order of eggs Benedict was okay as well but the hash browns which came with it were not cooked to order (very crispy, please!) Also ordered the Bobcat Burger which was good with VERY TASTY fries! This was one of the best discoveries ever. We were staying at an Airbnb in the area and decided to stop in for dinner. Grabbed a seat in the bar and Laurie made us feel like we were cherished regulars from the start. The food was super yummy and the drinks spot on. Laurie made the entire experience so fun we came back a few nights later for drinks and games of pool. My friend forgot her jacket and Laurie tracked me down on Facebook to let me know she had it behind the bar. So we were able to get it before leaving town. Above and beyond. Food is great, most of the staff is great, but there was one waitress who was literally shouting over patrons to communicate with other people. She was horrendously loud THE ENTIRE TIME, and a few patrons and my family exchanged looks of annoyance. Our five year old even ask " why is she so loud?" at 9 am. Honestly she 100% made us want to leave because it was already taking so long for us to get our meal (which would have been ok ) but to deal with someone literally shouting at all times to communicate was horrible. She even gave us an attitude because in the 2 mins from the time she finally giving us a menu to her coming back, we weren't ready to order. We got a break from her shouting when she went on a smoke break or whatever, and people around us seem to be enjoying the peace as well. I felt terrible for this man that she stood right next to while shouting to another table of patrons. We almost wanted to know her schedule so we could avoid those times, the rest if the staff is amazing. They carry on friendly conversations at a normal level, they are funny and nice, so even if there is a sort of long wait you don't usually mind. I'd suggest maybe scheduling that waitress for the evening. read more
