Expect to be there 2 hrs... was an hr to recieve our food with 3 kids under 7 yrs old and 1 was a toddler wasn't fun. Service is slow and make sure u check ur check at the end. I feel bad even writing a review, because our server was very sweet and overall a great server. But for 1 adult and 3 kids, it took an hour and a half to get our food. 1 sandwich and 3 kids burgers, 4 waters. It was a holiday (Juneteenth) but the diner side was not particularly full. I can't speak for the bar side. Because we were waiting for so long I had time to notice the dozens of flies occupying the air of the walkway. There's also a fly zapper sitting on top of a booth. There was only one sever in the diner, but there were others coming out of the kitchen likely for the bar area. I attempted to talk to one and she raised her finger to me and shooshed me, no eye contact, no smile, just an "I'm not dealing with you" gesture. I had been attempting to get an eta on our food because we weren't going to wait more than another 5 minutes, and of course that is when our server came out with our food. The food was great. Exactly what you would want in a diner. The kids meals are super affordable, $5.99 and have ice cream included. I did have an issue with my meal but my server addressed it appropriately, so I'm not going to go into detail. Overall, GREAT food. Kitchen was TERRIBLY SLOW (today, can't speak on whether it is typical or not) . Loved the server we had. Whoever is managing needs to look into what went wrong with service this afternoon. From what I overheard there was only one person cooking, not sure if that means one cook and multiple assistants, or if there is JUST one cook. The kitchen was very loud and had a lot of voices . My second time stopping by here for breakfast. They really have great food and their price are fair. This time I got their biscuit and gravy, scramble egg, and fries. I'm a fries person, so if I can substitute hash brown or potato. I would definitely do that. Not to mention, their fries are the good one, even if it's pre-made but it's the seasoned kind. Their portion are huge and every time I can't finish it so I have to take the left over home. They are usually busy when I go there on the weekend. During the breakfast to lunch hour. Good thing the place is pretty big so you will be seated fast. Just take a while for the service to get to you and take your order. I feel like they should hire couple more people during weekend rush hour especially in the morning time. But overall their food is awesome if you haven't try it out yet. read more

The breakfasts are good - and the grilled biscuit is delicious. It feels like what an unpretentious down home restaurant ought to be. A few hours later, on our way home, the sign said "CornBeef and Cabbage". So we stopped in for an early dinner. I told the waitress that I wanted the CornBeef and Cabbage. She said, we ran out last night! Well... Why did someone put it on the sign, when they ran out the night before? So then I tried to order the Prawns! The waitress said we're out of prawns! We went with the whole family - 7 of us and the waitress was so fun! One of those sarcastic type, but polite and not obnoxious. We wanted clam chowder but advised us against it because the cook tried a new recipe and it wasn't good that day. The breakfast dishes were very large and also the fish & chips. Passing through, visiting family....went to Jr's and was EXTREMELY disappointed with their customer service. I counted 13 people in the bar and was treated like there was 100 people to tend to. Lady was EXTREMELY slow and didn't care about the customers. She shut down the pull tabs because "she didn't have any help". People were waiting at the bar for a drink , who knows where she went. I stopped in around 4pm for a a early dinner. The waitress told me she has been busy all day but all I saw was people sitting at two other tables. The restaurant itself was dark and felt dirty. Everything on the menu was over priced with burgers ranging from $15-20. Some burgers are worth $20 but not this one. I ordered the Bobcat burger witch took over 20 minutes even though I was only the third table in a otherwise empty restaurant. Maybe I caught them on a off day I'm not really sure. Incredibly friendly, and quick service, coffee refills constantly, huge portions of really, really good food (pancakes, biscuits, sausage gravy, hash browns...). Think comfort food. Got it? Whatever you're thinking of, chances are good that JR's Hideaway in Belfair has got it nailed. For some reason, the Yelp map sent us in the wrong direction when I went looking for JR's one Saturday morning, and we had a merry time actually finding they place. It really is kind of hidden away (though just off the main road)! The extra effort was with it, though, as it's one of my new favourites. Our first experience there was Saturday morning breakfast (late breakfast, but still), and we weren't the only ones with this idea. The place was pretty busy, most tables filled with families talking and enjoying their food. One gets the feeling this is a popular place on the weekend in particular. And for good reason - I had the chicken fried steak and eggs, which came liberally covered in a thick, rich sausage gravy, just as it should be. My wife has Eggs Benedict, which she enjoyed but probably wouldn't get again. Even though I was full, I was enjoying my full plate a little too much - I couldn't help myself finishing it off right then and there. The other two visits to JR's Hideaway have both been on weeknights, and it is notably more subdued - both times we've been almost the only people there. Keep in mind that they close their kitchen around 8 PM most nights, so don't expect a late night treat. I tried the Reuben, which did not disappoint in the least, with fries. My wife had a French Dip, which was good but the Au Jus was a bit salty for her taste. Their fries and excellent and the appetizer plate is s heaping helping of goodness. The homemade pies are... Ok. Surprisingly, not to much to write home about on the dessert menu. The waitresses are friendly and funny and helpful. They might get a little distracted late at night (we had to get up to flag one down for a soda refill in our last visit), but they make up for it in charm. Probably, it's not much of a surprise to say that JR's Hideaway is not the place to go if you're trying to eat "healthy." But comfort food? Oh yeah. JR's has all that and more. read more

Yesterday, we decided to go into a restaurant for the first time since March. Good time to go in, hardly anyone there when we went in. Grateful that the waitress was wearing a mask. Ordered breakfast. My husband had the chicken fried steak. I ordered my favorite eggs Benedict. We ate about half and took the rest home. First, waitress was wonderful. Second, portions were huge. Third, service was quick. Prices were OK. The problem was the eggs Benedict. I've had them many times before at this restaurant. One of my favorite meals. This time, the hollandaise sauce didn't taste like hollandaise sauce. It was very cheesy. But on top of the hollandaise sauce was alot of shredded cheddar cheese. Melted over all the eggs Benedict and some of the hashbrowns. The hashbrowns were drenched in butter. When we warmed the left overs the next morning, there was a pool of butter on my plate. Please don't cover your eggs Benedict in cheese. The cheese, with the sauce and all the butter makes the meal way too rich to eat. No cheese needed. read more

My mom and I stopped by for lunch and were shocked they don't offer a veggie burger or any vegetarian options on their menu. We opted to alter the mushroom burger by removing the burger and asking for extra mushrooms and avocados. They first sent out the burgers without any cheese and when we asked for the Swiss that was supposed to come on it our original burgers were retuned with cold cheese on top, no attempt to melt it at all. Which makes me sad. They also still charged us the $1.50 extra for the avocados even though we had skipped the meat, which is the most expensive part of the burger. It was ok but I would skip it unless your willing to go straight off their menu. read more

Was looking for a decent breakfast joint in Belfair. Got on Yelp and saw this place has a restaurant and serves breakfast. I have been here before but only for drinks in the bar. All I can say is WOW. This was the best chicken fried steak I have ever had. The sausage gravy was so good and had lots of flavor. The eggs were good as well. I had the fruit bowl instead of the hashbrowns and it was a good size bowl with fresh melon and pineapple. My friend had the french toast and he said it was very good as well.
