We've been meaning to stop in for diner and finally made it. I must say that walking in on a Saturday night the place was lively. We were immediately greeted by the hostess and we mentioned our reservations but that at we also were not ready to take a table but would be at the bar to get us started. The bar was crowded and we strode for our first cocktail. We started with a bourbon and brandy oldfashon but we've certainly had better. We switched over with a Tito and tonic and red wine. The wine list was short and surprisingly all the reds were from the US and only one Riesling from Germany with the balance from the US. Sitting down for dinner had nice ambiance and you could hear the pianist most of the evening. They start you off with quite a relish tray providing liver pate, cheese spread, a imataion crab salad, kidney bean salad, beet salad, and assortment of veggies. We then had salads which had a blend of lettuce. My dressing was a fair blue cheese. I also had the French onion soup which did have a very mild and nicely browned cheese topping. The soup was good with plenty of flavor along with a nice offering of browned onions. For dinner my wife had the 7oz fillet (only size offered) and I had the rack of lamb. Both dinner were enjoyed and the rack of lamb was four double cut pieces that were cooked perfectly. I would recommend this dish. Service was attentive and friendly and overall the patrons who seemed to be a regular clientele, were also friendly and we felt welcomed both at the bar and when seated for dinner. I can say this will be part of our rotation and on Sundays with the German lineup of food, you will find us there for a Sunday meal. read more

This restaurant is a very old establishment, but the ambiance of the place is warm, homey, and comfortable. Our waitress was the best! She was very attentive and took care of us wonderfully. My filet was done to perfection (medium rare) and the sides were perfect also. All in all, our party of six had a very nice celebration for my Grandaughter's birthday. read more

Took parents to celebrate a milestone anniversary. Ambience was good and server was warm and attentive but a little on the slow side especially given very few other people dining that evening. Menu looked great but food just wasn't executed well. There was hardly any salt used in any of the food. One person ordered chicken schnitzel and it had 2 hairs in it!! Cream of tomato soup was overly thick with cream and the only notable flavor was sweet (think melted tomato ice cream) so it wasn't enjoyable. Pork with onions and apples tasted great but again lacked salt and was covered in a sauce that was so full of cream/butter it was difficult to eat. Schnitzel was taken off the bill at my request. I have been coming to the Heritage House for Years and tonight I decided to try something different, I ordered the hamburger. I must say that I've had what was supposed to be some of the best rated burgers in Chicago such as Au Cheval, Gordon Ramsey's and many more. This is the Best burger I have ever experienced! The thickness of the perfectly seasoned ground beef is unmatched on flavor, texture and served perfectly medium rare. I just wished I took a picture to post but my appetite got the best of me before I thought of taking a picture. Weird smell upon entry . Came early for our reservation , and they seated 10+ tables infront of us, so our food order took 45 minutes or more...can't blame them for getting slammed, but take care of reservations first. Both entrees we had were something I could whip up in my crockpot . Vegetable of the night was listed as carrots and out came green beans with our order. If you substitute, let the patron know. Felt badly for our server due to the kitchen being behind ...we wouldn't likely return . Best part of the meal was a Caesar salad and German beers. read more

They confirmed their cheapness by only offering Pepsi and Diet Pepsi (and not even Pepsi Zero. Restaurants that care about quality will serve Coke/DietCoke/CokeZero Don't get the Prime Rib. Dinners come with an old school relish tray (liver pâté, kidney bean salad -- yes, please!), crackers, veggies. Drinks are decent, the service attentive, and entrees well presented. Our recent visit here was great! We got seated right away at 4:30 on a Saturday and by 5:15 the place was packed. The old fashions were very tasty and the relish tray did not disappoint. Their creamy beet salad is delicious. I had the ribeye and my husband had their prime rib. We both had the clam chowder soup and everything was delicious. The portions are very generous and we both took 1/2 of the steaks home. The inside is dated but makes you feel like you are in a Wisconsin supper club. To start the complementary relish trio of pickled beets in a cream sauce, macaroni salad and cold slaw along with a side dollop of pâté and soft sharp cheddar cheese were excellent. I had the Kassler pork chop served with sauerkraut and German potatoes and the clam chowder. My wife had the beef stroganoff with broccoli soup. Both entrees were excellent as well. For dessert I had the apple strudel à la mode and my wife had the crème brûlée. Again excellent choices. Our server was attentive and congenital. The supper club atmosphere made it a pleasant experience. Be sure to get reservations. We were warmly welcomed and led into the dining room, complete with a piano entertainer. I was told the relish tray is a standard starting course. There was a tasty beet salad, bean salad and a orzo salad. Off to the side was a liver pate and cheese spread served with an assortment of crackers and bread sticks. The menu has a varied selection of American and German dishes. I ordered French Onion soup to start (it was just ok), and the Smoked Pork Chop entree. After eating a serving of the relish tray and soup I was doubtful that I'd be hungry for dinner. When my meal arrived I hoped my eyes weren't bigger than my stomach. I took one bite of the succulent chop and picked up speed. It was very tasty, but so was the side of sauerkraut and potatoes. I ate every last bite! I'm gonna be honest as I drove out to this place I was very skeptical all around me there were fields, but upon pulling in its a cute little place that's nostalgic. Entering inside it is comfy and quaint. A live pianist is playing classical songs and it gives the place a classy atmosphere. They came out with some pickled dishes, cheese, veggies kinda spread. I ordered escargot, and the cod fish fry! Both were amazing never had snails before but the sauce they were in was delicious. My cod pieces were meaty and lightly breaded. The clam chowder was awesome and the service was phenomenal. I recommend others to drive a bit out of the way to this little town to try Heritage House, you won't be disappointed. read more
