    Chicken schnitzel

Pretty disappointing! Tried this place for dinner with husband. We are both fans of German food particularly as he has a German background and we were disappointed with the food here. I tried the Schnitzel cordon blue - it tasted old, not fresh, like it was store bought and simply refried. Husband tried the chicken schnitzel - very thin, also appeared to be store bought and not fresh. Husband tried the spinach soup and he was not impressed. I tried the goulash soup - almost no meat, and way too spicy. The spaetzle was old tasting, very much not fresh. Food definitely was a disappointment. Pricing was typical. Parking is free in front and plentiful. The music was entertaining and the live musician was probably one of the best parts. The decor is dated at best. We will not be back.

For traditional Bavarian food in a folksy setting, this is the place (or Platz, I suppose)! Not a large restaurant, and aside from the booths many of the tables are large and set up as communal style, so if the idea of talking to strangers horrifies you, perhaps make a reservation and secure a booth in advance. The food was quite good overall. We started with the giant pretzel with beer cheese, which was the perfect pretzel in my mind, and plenty for two. Then our meals came with either soup or salad: himself went with the cream of chicken and rice soup of the day (I had a taste; yummy) and I tried the German pickled salad (interesting but not all of the samplings appealed to me). We both tried a Schnitzel (I mean, it's in the name of the restaurant after all!) He got the rahm schnitzel with a creamy brown sauce, and I got the Jager schnitzel with a rich mushroom wine sauce. Both came with two sizeable cutlets of breaded pork and two sides (we both got spaetzel, he got fries and I got red cabbage), so this is a lot of food! Our waitress (Cory I believe) was fun and kept a good eye on us. She also gave me a hint with the beverage I ordered (the Honey crisp cocktail) to stir it up with the straw because all the liquor settles to the bottom. On weekends they have live music, and since it was a week before Christmas it was Christmas themed this time. It was one fellow playing nearly a dozen instruments: keyboard, guitar, banjo, mandolin, xylophone, cowbells, blowing on glass bottles, flute, panflute, trumpet (including two at once!?) as well as singing. Quite impressive! Overall, for tasty German fare with a side of musical entertainment, Schnitzel Platz is one to check out!

Great German food with good singing! Quality- the fish and sausage here are delicious. The fish dish had perfectly cooked rainbow trout and the potato side was crispy. The pretzel was a miss for me. It was too salty and the soup was ok. Quantity- they give an ok amount of food. Not spectacular here. Atmosphere- pretty nice big area with singing and performances. Service- awesome servers

I really wish we had a good German restaurant like this in Omaha! Visiting the Chicago area we came across this wonderful delight and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Everything from the decorations, which are in the truest of Bavarian styles to the food was just fantastic! A wonderful beer selection of all your favorite German styles, including Weinstephaner, Spotton, Hofbrauhaus, and everything else! The service was extremely attentive and eager to please. Everything from the potato pancakes, the side salads, and the various schnitzel dishes we ordered were just out of this world. I do wish that they had shredded the potatoes for the potato pancakes and seasoned them a little bit more like the ones my grandmother used to made, but they were served with traditional, sour cream and applesauce. A definite place to check out when you're in the area and craving some German, stick to your ribs, comfort food, like your grandmother, used to make food!

We went here for my birthday and it wasn't very busy. The decor is really cute with German collections. The seating and atmosphere was cozy. The service was friendly but super slow. We were surprised by how long it took to get our entrées considering there weren't many patrons. My husband and dad's girlfriend enjoyed their German beers. I ordered the plate which was not pictured. It had a variety of sausages, German meatloaf, schnitzel, German potato salad, and sauerkraut. It was absolutely delicious. It was pricy but it was a decent portion. I also got the salad plate which came with red cabbage, creamy cucumber salad, pickled beets and pickled white beans. It was super tasty! My dad ordered the brats and sauerkraut. He liked the brats but said the sauerkraut was too strong for him. My husband and dad's girlfriend ordered the same thing, which was the schnitzel with onions. They really enjoyed their meal. It came with soup or salad and they both opted for soup. The chicken noodle and liver dumpling soups were both super flavorful and delicious! For dessert, we went with the German chocolate cake. It was so moist and light. The cherries complimented the cake and mouse filling. We all really enjoyed this sweet treat. Definitely reccomend! The performer was amazing! He was using all sorts of musical instruments and interacted with the patrons by playing German music. Very cool experience! Overall, we enjoyed our food and experience. We would reccomend and return for some authentic German food.

It's Oktoberfest time, so we look for a German restaurant that offer Gluten-Free options. We found Schnitzel Platz. Because it's Friday evening, we called ahead to make reservation. They have a tent outside but it's rainy and cold, we were glad that we had a table inside the restaurant. The restaurant was busy and lively with live band. The hostess was attentive, and let us know that they were resetting the table. If you are looking for GF option, this restaurant offers a variety on the menu. In addition, they offer GF schnitzel! It's not on the menu so make sure you ask about it. Overall, the food was good and flavorful. The schnitzel was tender, juicy and crispy. The portion was generous that we both have enough for another meal. We definitely will return to try different dishes on the menu.

Grabbed a late lunch/early dinner at Schnitzel Platz today with a friend while in town for business. Growing up my family had a foreign exchange student from Germany, the spatzle reminded me of the meals she cooked for us. We still have the spatzle making tool. The food was great and the staff were friendly. When we were leaving they were setting up to start live music The potato salad was creamy and good, my chicken schnitzel was good I almost wanted something to dip it in. I would probably opt for one with a sauce involved net time. Stop in and visit!

The curry wurst was the bomb but needed more sauce. The sauce was heavenly though. The potato pancakes great and flavorful. The cabbage rolls tasty. The liver soup not my favorite only because it had a liver taste--which if you like, then you'll like it. The saurkraut and purple cabbage the best Ive ever tasted and worth getting. The spetzel so-so, not much flavor. Son liked it though. The bread dumplings ok. More like white bread. The big pork shank that is the prize-it was good but not as stellar as we thought it would be. And we did make sure to order it crispy like it said to and it wasn't. Looked like it was a little browned but even my young son said the fat isn't rendered. I think it would have been a lot better if it had been crispy like in other pictures on here. Disappointed. It's like $35. Not cheap. The beef with sauce (sauerbraten) was good, the sauce great, the beef ok. The special that was going on, the beef roulade. Nobody liked it at all. The stuff just didn't taste good together in it. Overall, it was a good experience. The waitress Rosie was amazing, most of the food was great to awesome. The ambiance was German and cozy. Our favorites: the curry wurst sauce, the saurkraut and red cabbage and the stuffed cabbage rolls.

The reviews advertised authentic German food. As a German I had to try it. The potato pancakes were a good start, tasted like mom used to make. The Platter had a lot of food. I don't know what region this place is from, the sauerkraut and Blaukraut were not Bavarian, the Spätzle felt ready made and not home made. The Bratwurst was too fine for me, I'm thinking north German. The strudel was good tho. The service was fantastic! From host to server they took care of me and made sure I wanted for nothing, so I can't complain there. Decor wise this looks like what you'd imagine a German restaurant looking like in the US. Lots of banners advertising beer and German flags hanging on the walls with a collection of steins everywhere you look. Overall it's not "authentic" for me, but the food tasted good and the service was exceptional.

I almost always order one or more of the following: Steak Tartar (as a starter), followed by Leberknodel Soupe (liver dumpling soup), and then either the Bavarian Pork Shank, or the Sauerbraten, or the Wiener Schnitzel (a breaded & fried veal cutlet that's as big and pounded flat as a large pancake) as my main. Get these with the Spätzle and the sweet stewed Red Cabbage for the best experience. There is truly no reason to order the burger or the salmon.

First thing I noticed was that the restaurant was unusually empty on a Saturday night, we were the only ones there. No problem because we have been to other empty restaurants before but the food was good. Second thing I noticed was that we can hear the microwave turn on frequently and the sound is disturbingly obvious. We ordered apple pancakes, Renate's sampler platter, cheesy spaetzle, and Kleiner haxen. We got the liver dumpling soup with each of our entrees. Most of it was bad but I'll talk about the good first. Complimentary bread was fine, it tasted like pretzel. It was soft and not too salty. Liver dumpling soup was hearty and the meat was tender. Broth was good. The brat was fine, tender and flavorful. Mashed potatoes were fine. Here comes the bad. Apple pancakes were too crunchy like reheated. It's not soft like regular pancakes. Not a lot of apples inside. The hammock was still frozen which was why it was so difficult to cut. I've had hock before and if it's made fresh, it'll cut easily. This one was frozen solid in the middle. We can hear them putting it back in the microwave. We took it home to reheat it in the oven. The sampler platter was mostly terrible. The schnitzel didn't even look like one (I've had it many times at other German restaurants). The sauerbraten and the gulasch bowl both had tough meats. You'll be chewing on this for like forever. The cheesy spaetzle they actually forgot but reheated it when I inquired about my order. Definitely wasn't fresh. It was unflavored. The owners did give us the cheesy spaetzle for free and 20% of the hock order. However, I think they should have given us the entire order of hock for free or 75% off. After all, it wasn't even cooked fresh and was still frozen in the middle. The husband was very apologetic but yeah apologies couldn't save this horrendous experience. I do not recommend coming here. If you do come, eat at your own risk.
