Live music, dancing, interactive fun, flowing beer, and hearty German food, honestly, who argues with that combination? The place transforms into one big cheerful party where strangers toast like old friends and nobody leaves quietly. This year was extra special because it was my sister's, from Buenos Aires, first time experiencing the festivities , and she absolutely loved it. She left with a full belly and a few loud, happy memories that will probably resurface every time she hears an accordion. Service is always upbeat and fun, keeping pace with the festivities. We came on a Saturday night and it was my 1st time dining at Schnitzel Platz and I don't have a lot of experience dining at German restaurants. Our server was very attentive and was able to answer all our questions we had about the menu. She definitely helped us decide on what to order. The menu is extensive with so many different kinds of Schnitzel to choose from along with a variety of entrees like pork shank and pork chops. We first started with the sauerkraut balls as an appetizer. These deep fried sauerkraut and smoked ham balls were served with a honey mustard like dipping sauce. Absolutely a must try. We also ordered a half order of the German potatoes pancakes and they were the best I've ever had. So light and crispy and we ordered a side of sour cream and apple sauce to complement the pancakes for extra up charge. For our entrees I went with the pork chop zingara. It was a healthy portion of breaded chops topped with mushrooms and tomatoes with ham. We chose the green beans and bread gravy as the sides. Absolutely delicious and plenty to take home as well. The also ordered the Deutsche Haus Platter - Breaded pork schnitzel, frikadelle (German chopped steak), assorted sausages. Served with home fries, red cabbage, and sauerkraut. You can substitute the sides if you want but kept our order as is and so glad we did. The home fries were really good. The entree was a great way to try a little of everything so I know exactly what I'll want to try the next time I come which I home will be in the near future. All the entrees come with soup or salad. We got the soups : the goulash and liver dumpling soup. The goulash had a kick from the paprika but it was very hearty. I am not a fan of liver but it was good too and the broth was rich. Schnitzel Platz offers great hearty and comfort German food with a very fun atmosphere filled with live music. Nice selection of German beers on tap too. The service was also great. read more

Pretty disappointing! Tried this place for dinner with husband. We are both fans of German food particularly as he has a German background and we were disappointed with the food here. I tried the Schnitzel cordon blue - it tasted old, not fresh, like it was store bought and simply refried. Husband tried the chicken schnitzel - very thin, also appeared to be store bought and not fresh. Husband tried the spinach soup and he was not impressed. I tried the goulash soup - almost no meat, and way too spicy. The spaetzle was old tasting, very much not fresh. Food definitely was a disappointment. Pricing was typical. Parking is free in front and plentiful. The music was entertaining and the live musician was probably one of the best parts. The decor is dated at best. We will not be back. read more

This used to be a go to for great German food and the service was always top notch. The past two times we dined in, the food was boring, flavorless, and low quality. In addition, the service is no longer a selling point. Unfortunately, this place seems to be dropping the bal in all important areas. The one highlight is the German music. I've been going to schnitzel platz for years. This was the first time that both my wife had a bad meal. She had the mini burgers and I had the Frikadelke, I had it many times there and always enjoyed it except for tonight. It was tasteless and mushy. We were very disappointed, we are not people who complain at the restaurant but I felt that it was a genuine waste of our money and made it a disappointing evening. The bright spot was the music Johnny Wagner was playing. If they had a contact email on their website I would have addressed this with the owner instead of posting it here. read more

For traditional Bavarian food in a folksy setting, this is the place (or Platz, I suppose)! Not a large restaurant, and aside from the booths many of the tables are large and set up as communal style, so if the idea of talking to strangers horrifies you, perhaps make a reservation and secure a booth in advance. The food was quite good overall. We started with the giant pretzel with beer cheese, which was the perfect pretzel in my mind, and plenty for two. Then our meals came with either soup or salad: himself went with the cream of chicken and rice soup of the day (I had a taste; yummy) and I tried the German pickled salad (interesting but not all of the samplings appealed to me). We both tried a Schnitzel (I mean, it's in the name of the restaurant after all!) He got the rahm schnitzel with a creamy brown sauce, and I got the Jager schnitzel with a rich mushroom wine sauce. Both came with two sizeable cutlets of breaded pork and two sides (we both got spaetzel, he got fries and I got red cabbage), so this is a lot of food! Our waitress (Cory I believe) was fun and kept a good eye on us. She also gave me a hint with the beverage I ordered (the Honey crisp cocktail) to stir it up with the straw because all the liquor settles to the bottom. On weekends they have live music, and since it was a week before Christmas it was Christmas themed this time. It was one fellow playing nearly a dozen instruments: keyboard, guitar, banjo, mandolin, xylophone, cowbells, blowing on glass bottles, flute, panflute, trumpet (including two at once!?) as well as singing. Came here with my nearly 98 year old mom, not so well 77 year old husband and 34 year old son who I also managed to convince to go. My mom hates to go anywhere and has severe osteroarthritis. I took special effort to make sure this venue could accomodate her. I came here day of to ensure she would have the best experience possible. My mom cannot see well nor hear well. I knew that viewing the menu in the restaurant would be next to impossible. And no, she cannot see website content she is neatly blind. I knew she would not be able to hear me read off menu items. So, I paid a $10 deposit to borrow a menu to take home. I showed her menu options in the quite of home. When we got there we knew what to order. She did not care for half of the items in the sampler platter. I had been to another German restaurant 2 days before and food was not as good. I think the value was great given tgat we had fantastic entertainment from Eddie Corosa band! That made it all worth while and he even made my mom smile! We have been going there for 10 years when family comes in for the holidays. Disappointing schnitzel, ordered a variety, chicken, pork etc. everyone's was dry and probably sitting under a heat lamp way too long. Beer was just as good as always. I really wish we had a good German restaurant like this in Omaha! Visiting the Chicago area we came across this wonderful delight and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Everything from the decorations, which are in the truest of Bavarian styles to the food was just fantastic! A wonderful beer selection of all your favorite German styles, including Weinstephaner, Spotton, Hofbrauhaus, and everything else! The service was extremely attentive and eager to please. Everything from the potato pancakes, the side salads, and the various schnitzel dishes we ordered were just out of this world. I do wish that they had shredded the potatoes for the potato pancakes and seasoned them a little bit more like the ones my grandmother used to made, but they were served with traditional, sour cream and applesauce. My husband wanted to go here on Father's Day. We had reservations. To our surprise, we were seated elbow to elbow with perfect strangers. We do enjoy meeting new people but we probably should have walked out then. It took an hour to get our food. The veal was so dry. It was awful. No taste. The four asparagus was the best part of the meal. Two veal dinners and two Cokes plus tip was $90. It was so loud, we had to yell across the table. I would not recommend this restaurant. The chicken noodle and liver dumpling soups were both super flavorful and delicious! For dessert, we went with the German chocolate cake. It was so moist and light. It's Oktoberfest time, so we look for a German restaurant that offer Gluten-Free options. We found Schnitzel Platz. Because it's Friday evening, we called ahead to make reservation. They have a tent outside but it's rainy and cold, we were glad that we had a table inside the restaurant. The restaurant was busy and lively with live band. The hostess was attentive, and let us know that they were resetting the table. If you are looking for GF option, this restaurant offers a variety on the menu. In addition, they offer GF schnitzel! It's not on the menu so make sure you ask about it. Overall, the food was good and flavorful. The schnitzel was tender, juicy and crispy. The portion was generous that we both have enough for another meal. We definitely will return to try different dishes on the menu. read more

My husband and I went to dinner last Sunday evening...It was pouring rain and the restaurant wasn't busy at all...service was quick and friendly. Our server, Brenda, was very sweet and helped us navigate the menu...My husband had a 2 Brats and dumpling meal and he said it was delicious. I had an open face ham on German bread, with two eggs...also wonderfully tasty. There was a very nice young man(Mike) playing the accordian and singing..He had a pretty wide range of songs..a lot of polkas...some pleasant banter with the diners...My husband teased him a little and said "Can you play Freebird?" and darned if he didn't play it...what a good sport!!! Grabbed a late lunch/early dinner at Schnitzel Platz today with a friend while in town for business. Growing up my family had a foreign exchange student from Germany, the spatzle reminded me of the meals she cooked for us. We still have the spatzle making tool. The food was great and the staff were friendly. When we were leaving they were setting up to start live music The potato salad was creamy and good, my chicken schnitzel was good I almost wanted something to dip it in. This is my favorite German place in the burbs of the ones I've been to. This is about my 4th time, at least, coming here, not including pickup during COVID. Had reservations with a group of 5 other friends and we were seated quickly. Service was super quick, very good on refills and friendly. Table had a variety of meals: Onion Schnitzel Schnitzel Cordon Blue Black Forest Schnitzel some others Kartoffelpfannkuchen Everything was delicious. The schnitzels breaded perfectly, the temp was right, the portions were huge. Deutscher Kartoffel Salad - Warm potato salad was very flavorful, tangy like I like it with that vinegar flavor. Rotkohl - the red cabbage is also warm, tangy and sweet and very good. The cold salads that came with it were full of fresh veggies with great flavor. The restaurant is very clean and decorated in a beautiful German theme. The temperature of the room is nice and comfortable not too hot but a little on the cooler side (if you tend to be someone who gets cold easily, bring a sweater) The greeter and the waiter we had were very nice and pleasant. There is a small bar / gaming area. We both had the Frikadelle with a side of Spatzle. It was listed under small appetite and believe me it was a decent portion size and very flavorful. I highly recommend you try it! We really enjoyed the bread basket while we were waiting for our food to be prepared. The bread basket had one slice of pumpernickel bread, three pretzel rolls, two packages of townhouse crackers, and several packages of cold butter. The ambiance is quite fun and inviting, but the service is subpar. The waitress barely checked back with us, forgot to put in an appetizer properly, and the food took an hour to come out. Waiting for food isn't necessarily bad when it arrives hot and fresh. Unfortunately, only 3 of the 7 main courses were hot, and their sides were not however. The 4 other meals were just warm and one of them came out 5 minutes later than the rest. The party next to us order after us but got their food first. It is nice they have gluten free options. I was there with a small group on Saturday. It was so hot in the restaurant that we were considering leaving. The food was also terrible. I ordered the pork chops which were so thin that they were overcooked to the point that i struggled to cut them with a steak knife. They were inedible. The service was not great either. Full disclosure, we went for Oktoberfest on a Sunday afternoon. We were seated inside and did not get the full experience of the festivities. I now know that the live music and entertainment takes place on Friday and Saturday nights. Nonetheless we were hungry and still up for a good meal. The potato pancakes were great but the soft pretzel was hard and stale. My husband ordered the schnitzel sandwich and the bun was hard. I ordered the sauerkraut balls and they were super salty. I have been here several times over the years and always looked forward to going during Oktoberfest season. In past years it was wonderful. Food, beer, music was ok (not a real Oompah band, but the guy tried and played familiar German music). Went there last night expecting the same or better and was quite disappointed. First off, the place was practically empty at 6:30. Second, there was a very boring Bingo game going on (during Oktoberfest??), and absolutely no music at all, not even piped in. The beer was good as usual, but the food rather disappointing compared to years past. Small portions and kind of blah. The spaetzel had little flavor and seemed to be not from scratch. My wiener schnitzel was ok, not nearly as good as in past years. My friend ordered the sauerbraten and the gravy was way too dark, looked to be store bought. He said it tasted okay. I'm part German, grew up on German and Czech cuisine (they're very similar), and never had sauerbraten with gravy that looked like that. The strudel was good. For me, the worst part was the atmosphere. It was all decorated for Oktoberfest but there was no Oktoberfest energy, no celebration, no music. I know it was a Wednesday, but it's OKTOBERFEST time!! I've gone on Tuesdays or Thurs in the past during Oktoberfest and it was fun, but this was almost sad, they had maybe two tables participating in the bingo -- I felt bad for the guy calling numbers and for the the wait staff. Our server was very nice, no complaint there, but no one was dressed in Oktoberfest outfits.
