Prairie River serves as a sports bar for the Eaglewood Conference Center and proverbial 19th hole for the golf course. The restaurant bar is in the bottom floor of the center and has a walk out basement feel to it. The dining room is large and open, line with TVs playing various sport programs. Outside is a beautiful patio with large fire pit that they light at night. The menu is limited with only 4 sandwiches and a couple entries plus apps. I ordered carry-out dinner of the Turkey Club Sandwich, which comes with a side (I chose Caesar salad) and I also got the Truffle Fries, which are to die for. The Turkey Club was large in delicious chewy Italian toast with a tomato aioli sauce. The sandwich had plenty of turkey, crispy bacon, perfectly ripe avocado and lettuce and tomato. It was delicious. The generous portion of Caesar salad was very good as well. The Truffle fries are delicious. They are covered with garlic and parmesan and severed with an aioli dipping sauce. The portion is large and easily shared among several people. The service is fairly fast. About 10 minutes. There is plenty of free parking and the complex is quiet and remote. My friend is in from Arizona and we wanted to meet in a central location. Felt like appetizers and visiting and found this place on line. I arrived first and stood at the front hotel counter for about 5 minutes before the bellman could stop texting and tell me that the restaurant was downstairs. (Folks--put up a sign!) Went down stairs and the place was totally empty. There was an employee behind the bar who was obviously working on paperwork. After a couple minutes I spoke across the room and asked if I could seat myself and he said yes. He brought over 2 of the dirtiest laminated menus I have seen in a long time. My friend arrived and sat down. (In the meantime a very large corporate group arrived) My friend ordered a bowl of soup and I ordered 1/2 dozen chicken wings. They brought the food in an acceptable amount of time, but only a cup of soup because all the big bowls were being used elsewhere. My friend was advised she could get a refill whenever she wished. In the meantime more folks in the corporate group arrived and it just became Cheers II, with all hands on deck getting drinks. We managed to wave down a girl from the kitchen and asked for another cup of soup. Fifteen minutes later, I waved down another staff member who sent over the manager. Soup finally arrived. By now the wings I had stopped eating to wait for my friend's service of soup was stone cold. In a nutshell, the food quality is very poor. The ambiance is non existent. The service was poor due to not having enough bodies to manage the corporate group. In full disclosure, the manager did present a discount on the bill without being asked, and that was appreciated. I would not recommend this restaurant for an end of day meeting point given their staffing issues. read more

Do not recommend . I'm not sure how this restaurant has 3 stars. I'm 50+ years old, well traveled, and this was probably the worst food I've ever gotten in a restaurant. Party of 5, 2 burgers, 1 chicken sandwich, and one turkey club. I was looking forward to the bowl of clam chowder...definitely frozen and was loaded with pepper. If it wasn't after 7 pm & hungry, I would not have eaten it. I got no dressing with my salad. We had to grab the cook when she popped her head out of the kitchen to get dressing. no server to be found. It is casual, but the obnoxious party at the nearby bar was so loud and rude we couldn't hear each other talk across the table. Drive out to a local place, get a take away, or wait out front for a pizza to be delivered. anything is better than this restaurant. read more

The golf course is beautiful. The whole resort itself is very inviting. Down stairs has restaurant along with an exquisite patio. They have a live band on Saturday nights and weather permitting the band plays outside on the patio. Dancing and drinking and lots of great food. Inside includes many dining tables and a few booths. Full bar seating and wonderful dining menu. The beer specials tonight are $5 for Sam Adams Summer Ale and Rebel IPA!!! I will be back!! It will do after a long drive from Kansas City, and my Mytouch phone hacked the hotel's internet. I don't know. They have kick ass pizza, but no refrigerator or microwave to store the left overs int he rooms. The pizza crust is thin, and I've had both the pepperoni, and the Canadian bacon. Both were good, but why? I had to leave the damn left overs in the restaurant. The Taco pizza was horrid. It was unflavored and needed salt or something. I don't add extra salt to my food, but this meh. The beer was cold. The service was great. They do offer a kid's menu, but they don't tell you that. That way there's no left overs. I'd get in my car and drive it to Tree Guys and not go to Prairie River, which I intend to do this weekend. Prairie Rivers prices are reasonable. Much reasonable than the $28.00 buffet up stairs, which I've had and it was awful. Good for a hotel restaurant, but pick somewhere else if possible. read more

Signature drinks have no alcohol, stick with beer or wine. It's part of the resort so it's too expensive for the experience we had and the quality of food served outside. (We saw the menu ahead of time so we knew what $$ were, expected a better quality experience) Service was terrible. I know everyone is struggling for staffing so we tried to be patient. He didn't listen to our request when ordering, not sure he understood us. I switched to wine, he just assumed I wanted a Pinot instead of asking. I had to flag him down and repeat the name of the wine multiple times. He clearly has not been trained enough, he was nice and there is potential but more training is needed. The waitress was nice but the place had little atmosphere. There was an open area right at the front them at might be used as a projector viewing area but when not in use looks horrible. The outside seating area looks nice esp at night. The burger had good gluten free bread and I love how the fries were made in site. They could use a little more seasoning however. My wife's chicken had a little more far on it than we prefer. read more

I'm disappointed by our latest visit to Prairie River. Here's why: 1) It was so dark in the restaurant part that two of us had to use a flashlight to read the menu. 2) To start off, we ordered a Cosmo and I ordered a Maple Manhattan (one of their signature drinks). Both were served up in ~ 8-10 oz martini glasses. The last time I ordered the Maple Manhattan ($12) it was served on the rocks in a big rocks glass with a maple bacon strip. Mom asked me to taste the Cosmo and I had to agree that it tasted like there was no vodka in it. The server was very gracious and took it away while my Mom ordered a beer instead. 3) We ordered the Crispy Calamari ($12) which were delicious. The problem is that the order was very small - about half the volume that you would get in any Italian restaurant. 4) I ordered the Cast Iron Taco Seared Barramundi. Although it was well prepared and the seasoning was very tasty, it was a relatively small portion served on a bed of cauliflower leek mashed. I just wasn't impressed. At $24 it wasn't particularly expensive but still left me hungry. The pluses were our attentive server and the Mud pie we shared for dessert. I hope this was just an off night because I really like Prairie River. On the other hand, if they are consciously trying to cut expenses by keeping the lights dim, skimping on their pours and offering small portions, I'm not sure if I will be back. read more

Creative dishes and very pretty presentations. Server was extremely attentive until presented with a restaurant.com certificate, and then she went MIA for the first time throughout the whole meal. There were some hits: The tomato gratin soup was rich and delicious. The asian-pear dressing for the side salad was divine. The warm basket had a great assortment of unique breads. The carrot cake. Huge piece that was moist and flavorful. The gratin potato side. Very rich and cheesy. The service, until the end. There were also some misses: The pommes croquettes - not sure what they were going for here, but the texture and taste didn't mesh well. The server said it was their spin on jalepeno poppers but I didn't get that at all. The nan quesadillas - taziki sauce with a quesadilla? Way too many onions as well. The Jack Daniels angus filet. Delicious but not cooked to order and have no idea why the JD label. My medium was more medium rare. Y'all know I hate that. But again, it was delicious. The service, at the end. Waited almost 20 minutes for the discounted check. I don't know if the server thought she'd get a discounted tip and was expressing her passive-aggressive disdain for us poor folk using the certificate. Tipped 21% on full value of the meal. Lesson to be learned here is that poor doesn't equal dumb or cheap. All in all, this was a delightful meal that was a feast for the eyes as well as the belly. Prairie River probably doesn't get the traffic it deserves because of its location inside a hotel and of course, its hotel-y decor (eek!), but the food was really scrumptious, and we decided to eat all our meals here while staying at Eaglewood resort. The chef really has a delicate and creative touch with flavor combinations, and we enjoyed (almost) everything we ordered. The mahi mahi sandwich and caprese panini were the perfect combination of sweet and savory, and the balsamic glaze added elegance to the flavors. The Prairie burger was huge and came with a bacon wrapped pickle (yes please!). The airplane chicken and steak entrees were perfectly cooked and came with this amazing jalapeno cornbread and peach preserves, and the house soups were tasty. The chicken caesar salad was blah...but it was a blah order so I wasn't disappointed. The prices are reasonable and the drinks are strong...so worth a visit! read more

I will not go into quite as much detail as in my original review. I will just say this. We have gone back twice, and both times food and service were 5 star!!! Definitely one of our favorite restaurants. They really put a unique spin on all of the food. My husband and I agree: The smoked Arctic char salad is one of the best things we have ever tasted. I'm so confused by all the great reviews, as our experience here last night was not great at all. The food tasted bland, the service was extremely slow, the waiter was not educated about the menu, and the ambiance of this place was non existent. We waited for quite a while to get our drinks, and order food. They also didn't bring out any bread until I asked for it. The bread and the church street beer were good when we finally got them. The soup they had on special, sausage and corn chowder, was overly salty. I ordered the ribs, the menu stated that they came with cauliflower mash, but when they came out, there were some soggy fries on the plate.The sauce on the ribs had hardened by the time they brought them out, super unappetizing. This restaurant is okay if you're staying at the hotel and you're in a pinch, but I would not recommend making an effort to come here for dinner. read more

Prairie River is located on the lower level of the Eaglewood Resort. My daughter and I stayed here and we love this Restaurant. We had an appetizer of buffalo wings and they were WHOLE wings and not the little wing parts that most folks give you. Next I had the bbq ribs which were dry rubbed and the sauce was just the right amount of spicy with out being too much. My daughter had the steak burger which she loved and kept commenting how juicy she thought it was. They also have these great baskets of warm bread with a hickory butter and apricot preserves..... YUMMY!! We were so full that we almost didn't make it to the bowling alley which is also on site at the resort. However, the best part was our server. The restaurant was pretty empty as it was the Sunday before MLK Holiday. She was a young girl maybe late teens or early twenties and she was the best. She made sure we had everything we needed, she was pleasant, all smiles and made our visit very enjoyable. I wish I could remember her name. Anyway............ I stopped after the soup, bland and Luke warm, and an app of steak flat bread which is actually a steak quesadilla and pure salt with dry over cooked small bits of horrible beef. Threw it away Honestly the worst food I have ever been served anywhere. 30.00 for this with unsweetened ice tea and tip Stay away As for Eaglewood resort please take the time to stay there one night before wasting your time or suffering your quests to staying there Beds are horrible, lay out is unique which in this case simply means on one ease has made the same mistakes. read more

I only gave 3 stars because we had a good experience the first night we were at the hotel and came down to eat at this restaurant, pizza was good, the buffalo sliders are good. The second day I ordered a Chicken Caesar Salad, in my opinion, pretty hard to screw up. I think they should have named it "Our version of a Caesar Salad".. It was terrible.. It had sunflower seeds and other nutty things in it, romaine lettuce and another lettuce and the dressing was terrible My daughter hated the Mac n Cheese, so I tasted it and I can see where she was coming from, it tasted like beer cheese, which my 8 year old would of course hate. read more

The Monday after our Thanksgiving dinner, I was called by the Food & Beverage Manager and what a nice man! He showed sincere interest in better understanding our dining experience and in wanting to know what could be done in the future to make our next visit even better. We have been going to Eaglewood Resort for many years...and to Nordic Hills before it was Eaglewood. It's a beautiful setting, nestled up against the east side of the famous Medinah Country Club. I would highly recommend this location, and based upon my wonderful conversation with their Food & Beverage Manager...I would say you can expect a delicious, memorable evening. read more

Really good food at decent prices for a place with an executive chef and natural ingredients. I had the Angus filet and my fiancé had the Garlic olive oil fettuccine with Shrimp. Presentation is a 5, flavor is a 5(a little salty though, but I love that, others might not) and it was a perfect amount of food that left just enough room for dessert. The noodles for the fettuccine are made in house I believe. I would recommend saving room for the Grannysmith Apple Bake! Awesomeness! read more

Overall: crappy. I have definitely experienced better. The place does not look all that great. More like a sports bar. I was here once before a while ago, a few years ago, and it was a lot nicer, and say classier. There were more booths, and they separated the restaurant from the bar. This time around the carpet got outdated, and you can tell there was a piece cut out in the middle and replaced! How tacky! And the food was priced was a good quality in company of the according prices. This time around, there was no one to greet us, and the bartender and some other lady seemed upset when we finally sat ourselves. The food choice wasn't all that great, it was for the most part repetitive. Even worse, the prices on the menus most definitely did not match the prices: ridiculous overpricing for the quantity and quality of the food! I do have to say, apart from everything else that made the experience a torture, the service made up for it. Jonathon was a great server! He did as best he could, even trying to clear our plates since I guess there was no busser or others staffed to clear our plates and help provide the services of what you call a restaurant. Again, for the most part, our server was great. It is unfortunate that the restaurant he works for is poorly staffed, poorly designed and kept, and has a poor food selection. Definitely had better, and seen this place in better condition, definitely not worth the price anymore! read more
