Stopped by Mangy Dawg on a Thursday afternoon for a quick bite and drinks. The atmosphere had a cozy bar vibe, and the evening's entertainment featured bingo night. Thursday's specials included $1.49 wings and tenders. We ordered a breaded mushroom appetizer, tenders, and fries. The service was great and the food arrived in a timely manner. I did find the food lacking in seasoning. The preparation was adequate, but the flavors were somewhat bland, perhaps more suited for a child's tastebuds. I would recommend the mangy bbq sauce found that to be my favorite of the ones i tried. Overall, the food was average and could benefit from a bit more seasoning to enhance the taste in my opinion. I had considered trying their pizza but reconsidered after experiencing some stomach discomfort later that night. Stopped in for a drink and appetizers on a Sunday. Sat on the patio - nice space out there. Had the appetizer combo - chicken tenders, jalapeño poppers and pretzel Bites. The atmosphere is super chill and unpretentious--just a solid neighborhood spot with good energy and even better people. Emma, Melissa, Chris and the entire staff absolutely make the experience. They're friendly, quick with a drink, and always make you feel welcome. Whether you're just stopping in for a beer or hanging out for a while, they create the kind of vibe that keeps you coming back. Drinks are reasonably priced, the pours are generous, and the music and crowd are usually on point. It's the kind of place where you can kick back, laugh, and forget about the outside world for a bit. Highly recommend if you're in the area and want a laid-back spot with great service and even better people behind the bar. Mangy Dawg's Pub... "Where Dreams are Neutered" This establishment has been in Hanover Park for the last 11 years and has now come to downtown Roselle. We visited almost a week after their soft opening and sadly could not even muster up two stars to account for learning curves. Upon arrival, there is no host stand so patrons let us know it was seat yourself. It took about 10-15 minutes before a server come to greet us where we asked for menus. When we got our drinks, my vodka sprite was mixed with tonic water which is what my husband ordered. I asked the waitress for a new one which she gracious got back to me 10 minutes later. We ordered our meal: the pretzel bites to start then a hamburger and cheeseburger for mains. Our meals took 45 minutes and we still never received the appetizer. We later found out that the server forgot to tell us they ran out of pretzel bites. She had put in that we wanted chips and salsa. She also didn't mention this when I asked for an update on timing 30 minutes in. Our mains were mediocre at best. The fries were limp, burger had some underdone meat spots/was way too thick, we never got silverware. Our server noticed I only ate half my meal then told me she should have recommended the fries be well done. Our experience was such a disappointment as we followed Mangy Dawg's journey to opening and were excited for a new local spot to open. Easy to say we will not be revisiting this establishment for many of reasons. read more

I'm not sure what's happening here. Food is good, Pam and Chris are terrific hosts, but Sunday 6/7 was a disaster. No unflavored vodka, no whiskey, floors filthy and sticky, bathrooms were a disaster. Have been coming here for about a year now, but the place is visibly taking a downward spiral. Not having items available seems to be trending here. Not sure if we'll be back. read more

I am a straight, alt man who came in with his wife. I wear eyeliner and nail polish. 3 patrons and an employee called me a f*ggot within the first 15 minutes of being there. I CANNOT imagine the worse intolerance to an actual LGBTQ+ person. It was loaded with college kids on break and it was horrible. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Updated: Got to "love" an owner that takes to insults rather than looking at ways to improve their establishment. Read other reviews and you will see a theme. For a "new" restaurant, it has an old feel, especially for as long as it took to revamp and open. If I had to guess, it's owners cutting corners to save costs from tables and chairs, to the food down to the condiments. On a Saturday night, it was pretty dead. You seat yourself, no host, but for as dead as it was, finding a table was pretty easy. The waitress at first was attentive and what I THINK was the owner brought out glasses of water and walked away... no hello, no welcome, no enjoy your night, let me know if you need anything. We asked a few questions about the menu and then we waited, and waited, and waited for the waitress to come back (mind you, it wasn't busy (two other tables and a few sitting at the bar). It took over 30 minutes for food to come out, Burger, Chicken Tenders (burnt), and a wrap. The honey mustard (more like Honey BBQ) dipping sauce was horrible and watered down, the Ranch was better and also watered down (owners trying to stretch out condiments????). The wrap was just okay, and like the Honey Mustard and Ranch, the Caesar Dressing was watery, not thick at all. The burger according to my wife was okay, but not something she would order again. Up charges are ridiculous! $5.00 to add bacon or swap out onion rings inlu of fries? Appetizers were overpriced in my opinion. The food was reasonably priced so not really sure their thought process unless they just don't want to sell appetizers? There is no theme here for decorations... looks like they shopped at Hobby Lobby and just slapped things on the walls. Sign in the mens bathroom kind of said it all... "The Customer is always right. The owner will decide if you are still a customer". And their slogan? A VERY weak attempt at humor. Something you would hear the awkward drunk guy at a party say followed by the uncomfortable sound of crickets. Tables weren't level, rocky, so were the stools (something you would find in an old, dive bar, not a new restaurant) and uncomfortable. It's almost like they don't want people to stay long? Lastly, and I found this just odd.... The same guy that brought our waters just HOVERED over the staff and stood at the back of the bar. He came to our table a few more times, not to say a SINGLE word, but to clear things off the table. When we were getting up to leave, we had to move around him as he came to clear off the rest of the table at the same time... and again, didn't say a word. No thanks for coming in, how was your meal/experience and sadly, no hope to see you again. Our whole night explains why this place was dead on a Saturday night. I sadly see this being another failed restaurant at this location when it shouldn't have to be. But when you have owners stepping over dimes to pick up pennies.... The first time I came to this establishment, I waited 25 minutes for a server to come to my table and no one came, so I just ended up leaving. I had a bad taste in my mouth for awhile but decided I should give it another chance. I was happy that I did since the food was good and the service improved from my first experience. I think they could benefit from making their drink menu and menu is general more aesthetically pleasing. The drink menu is underwhelming to begin with and last time I was there, it was in the shape of a poorly cut notecard. They have that going against them along with being in a brutal location for parking, but with that being said its not a bad place and if youre looking for a quick bite in the area, you will have a solid meal here. read more

Well I love mangy dawgs!! I come here all the time! You can call me a regular! Definitely not a strip club like Sara said!! If I wanted to go to a strip club I would go to Scores!!! We love the bell and they ring the bell for Big tips and Birthdays, or karaoke ! Seems like women are jealous of good looking women trying to make a living! This is what they do!! We've been waiting so long for a bar to open to call home then we have people like Sara to sabotage bars name because of jealousy!! At the end of the day if you are a Mangys new comer the staff makes you feel like home like family, the kitchen is great with great food and everything is homemade! Great service and Great people!!! I wanted to like this place as it was a recommendation from a friend, unfortunately it missed the mark on all of the important points. As others have said, it's brightly lit which is great for a brunch spot, but lousy for a sports bar. The food also failed to impress with the wings being just ok and the ranch dressing being so watered down that it probably wouldn't stick to a knife if you dipped it in it. The highlight was the server, who could not have been kinder but alas ultimately this place is a 2/5 and given the availability of options I likely won't be back read more

I wanted so badly this place to be good. The owners have put a lot of money to make the outside look great . The inside itself looks like it did on last bar, our table was so wobbly had to put coaster to keep it from falling over . The server was spot on and very friendly but I would say they could cover up a bit. It doesn't need to be a nasty hooters . Drinks were a bit weak but prices ok . Food on the other was just ok. Chips were nothing special and wrap had way too much watered down dressing. I really hope they do better on the food . We will give it 1 more chance I really hoped for better. To say I was excited to try this establishment, would be an understatement. As a Roselle local, I had seen this building go dormant for years, and the slow process it went through to finally be open. I even followed the Facebook page which had colorful, honest, commentary of the process it takes to open a business. Pitfalls, setbacks, etc. They had their soft open about a week ago, and decided to wait a bit, let the rush of new people hopefully die down, etc. With such a long process to get this location open, I figured the staff would be ready by the time I visited. I was wrong. I arrived around 6pm on a Friday night. They were busy, understably, it's Friday night on a gorgeous summer night. Parking is limited, but in downtown Roselle, parking is very limited to begin with. This location is right next to the train tracks, so if you eat outside, be prepared. There was no host stand or signage saying "seat yourself" so some of the patrons told me "I guess go seat yourself" I sat outside because it was a beautiful day, and I knew there would be pros and cons to that. Pros, enjoying the weather, cons, train noise and slow staff. I sat down and waited for menus and service. That came about 10 minutes later. I saw about 3-4 servers rotating outside, and from the looks of it, those same servers were attending inside as well. Waters came out upon greeting, without asking, which was nice. The menu came and my waitress Giovanna was helping me. I asked for a Gin and Tonic and she asked me if I liked "Sweet Tarts" I said, sure, and that she was going to make me a unique Gin and Tonic that tastes like Sweet Tarts. Interesting. I was hoping for a beer menu, cocktail list, something, but they didn't have that. My guess is to keep it simple when it comes to drinks. Around 620 I ordered dinner. Pretzel bites and a Cheeseburger. Then began the waiting process. The outside patio is nice, lots of seating, and enough space to move around. I heard "Diners, drive ins and dives" but did not see it. I know TV's outside are tough, but it was an odd choice of sound. College football was heard next, sounded like a good game. Then came the rap music. 50 cent, and the lovely verse "unbotton your pants just a little bit", with kids in attendance outside with me. I mention the music because when waiting 45 minutes overall for your food, you start to notice it. The music is welcome to drown out the ear piercing train nose. If you sit outside, be prepared. My drink came within the 45 minutes though, and it was, interesting. It was in fact a sweet Gin and Tonic. The neon green color was off putting but, it did its job. I asked about the pretzel bites, and Giovanna said they were coming. She did stop by and apologize numerous times for the wait, but after 30 minutes and no appetizer, it starts to get frustrating and old. The music changed from Rap to some 80's music, but not the hits, some, abstract R&B techno sounds, which I couldn't place. Finally the food came! 705! Chips and Salsa and a Cheeseburger. I told the person who delivered the Chips and Salsa that I didn't order that, and she left the cheeseburger. Cheeseburger was huge. 1/2 pound at least. Brioche bun, and all the fixings, I'm excited! But, it was cold. Not even luke warm, cold. The fries next to it, were once hot, but now were just soggy and limp. My starvation got the best of me and since I had been waiting an hour fully, I mustered through it. Giovanna came by and I asked about the pretzel bites and she then gave me an honest answer by saying they were out, and put in chips and salsa to make up for it. Understandable, but I would of loved that to be communicated to me, early on. I asked for the bill. Gin and Tonic, Cheeseburger, Chips and Salsa. I was being charged for the wrong thing that I didn't eat. I asked her to correct the bill, which she did. and by that time all was said and done and I left, it was 720. I know in early weeks of a business being opening, you're going to be busy, there are going to learning curves, but honesty goes a long way, and proper communication to your patrons. It's ok to tell your patrons you just opened and that the kitchen staff is slammed and behind. It's not unprofessional, it's honesty. If you are reading this in September of 2023, wait until October or November to go. I'm sure by then this business will hopefully be doing things in a timely manner. This business has an original location, they have good reviews, good service and seems like great food. I was disappointed that I didn't have this experience. I have only been here once (my husband twice), but I am surely hoping Mangy Dawgs is here to stay (with their excellent pricing as well). We went shortly after they opened and it was a pretty slow night, and our service was very good (we sat at the bar). The homemade pickle chips were delicious ! Their price point is excellent and I really hope they keep those prices! This is what we needed in Roselle and I can't wait to go back and try some of their other food! read more

This place is a much needed addition to the area. It's a great neighborhood bar with tasty, fresh food. Drink prices are reasonable, or almost cheap, depending on where one normally goes around here. I thought the food was good. Was there on a karaoke night, so that was entertaining. The service was really friendly and informative. However, they seemed to be grossly understaffed, so it was slower than normal service times but not unbearable. (Just when I saw the restaurant fill more and no additional staff around, ordered two drinks at a time to hold me over lol) I will definitely go back though. It's a nice "hangout" for a few hours place, not a place to go if you're in a rush. They have gaming if you're into that too, and it seemed to pay out decently. read more

We have been waiting for them to open. So many great memories from over the years! We were not disappointed. We loved it so much after visiting on a Saturday night we returned on Sunday afternoon. The drinks are great. Service attentive. Plates cleared swiftly and all with kindness. The fries are the best. Fish cut, think and so flavorful. We had bacon cheese fries, a plate of plain fries, bbq pork fries, and fries on the side of our sandwiches. The pork was slow roasted and savory, not fatty. The bourbon bbq has a hint of spice. Grilled cheese is gooey. Tomato basil soup is on the menu and will need to order it to dip the grilled cheese in the future. Overall, great service, great food. Had wings, tenders and mushrooms the next day. Oh, the mushrooms are delightful too! A great place with good ventilation, large tables and plenty of service. I am writing this review because I just left this place 5 minutes ago!! The vibe in the there was awesome but I come in often and there are something's that just don't sit well with me. First off it's hot in there no AC what's so ever!! I over heard employees saying it's not working red flag! It's been over 2 weeks 1 lady told me in the bathroom! Secondly, the owner Brian is gone out of the country! So how is this problem supposed to be takin care of?? Third, I will not be supporting an establishment that does not take care of their employees and customers. Also my daughter use to work here and the owner does not pay his employees. Leaves weeks at a time and does not pay his staff!!! This is unacceptable. Just saying I won't be back or support a business like this!! This is horrible and he should be ashamed!! I hope something gets done about this or he will definitely lose business!! It's sad cause all his staff are great!! read more

My family & I went for some food &!drinks on Friday night , 9/22. The food we ordered was good. Pulled pork sand, chicken bites & grilled cheese. They were out of ham. They were quite busy and everyone was hustling. Our Server Alyssa was amazing. Always on top of it, service with a smile & very efficient. Checking in and asking her tables what they thought of the food etc. The manager Aaron was making sure the bar, food & drinks were all getting out in a timely manner & that things were running smoothly. He was professional & was making sure everyone was being taken care of. It will take a little time for this business to figure out what to keep on the menu, what to get rid of & what to add. The nachos were just ok. If the owners take the time & the managers have the time to walk around and talk to the patrons & get their feedback, this place could make a lot of money & be a really nice place to go. We will be Back to try more of the food & check it out some more. It's a cute place with things to do & a nice outdoor area. Come try it out. It's def worth giving it a try. read more
