A little place worth finding in Pewaukee. First time diners, we tried a bit of many dishes, and can absolutely say this is traditional German food. The owner, Mat is doing his Oma and mom (Bo) proud, and I bet this place is especially in the summer when the food is not the same old options up and down the Pewaukee shoreline. With outdoor service and seating in warmer weather, and now a cute little indoor dining room, I am glad I took the time to stop for dinner. We tried the chicken and pork schnitzel, both bunless; the Curry Wurst; Pretzel bites; Spätzle; Oma's Potato Salad; and Sprecher's Root Beer, of course. However, beer is also on the menu, along with other options. The menu is not huge, but if you like or want to try true German dishes, stop in. The pricing is fair, and the owner is very nice. They use the all-natural Wisconsin Gold Tallow for cooking, and I just learned about it and how it makes dishes so tasty. And it is even great for facials! read more

This was possibly the worst dining experience yet. We came for Sunday lunch, and there were only 3 other tables present. Yet it took a server a good 10 minutes to even bring menus. We finally get to place our order and while we waited noticed the table behind us getting plate after plate of the wrong food. We order and waited another 15 minutes for drinks. Our food finally starts coming out one dish at a time and it's not even correct. We were waiting for the last dish to arrive and our server took it to the wrong table, collected it from the wrong table and tried serving it to us after it was touched by someone else! So, terrible service. To top it off the food just sucks. Tiny portions that are overpriced. Not authentic German, not even close. The schnitzel were absolutely tiny and paper thin, you could barely even notice it was meat. For $15 you get two puny schnitzels and a tiny bowl of potato salad. During our time there at least 5 tables came in, sat and left not even getting drinks. read more

I was so excited to try this place because I am a pretzel junkie and I thought I could get an authentic with beer cheese but nope. They had a yogurt dip with herbs or mustard. I guess it's more healthy so I went with it. I like the variety of schnitzel. They even have egg eggplant, but all of the slices were very thin! I could barely taste what I was eating, whether it be pork or eggplant. And the sauerkraut I thought it was going to be warm, but it was cold and very vinegary. They also have strudel which I didn't get a chance to try, but it sounds like they make most things in house even the fries, but those were out of stock as well as the pretzel buns for the sandwiches as there was a lake festival going on at the same time so I'm sure they were very busy. As far as beverages go it's either beer or soda. Service was super friendly and I think she wears many hats, including in the kitchen. The place is very clean with really nice restrooms and in a great location. read more

I stopped at this establishment on a whim after stopping at a local brewery. I was very pleasantly surprised w the quality of food and service. Service was very responsive and friendly. I had several pork schnitzels with mushroom sauce and spatzel. Excellent taste and proportions. I enjoyed it immensely. They had some excellent German beer choice and I went with a Hefeweizen. Finally, the ambiance was quaint and very clean. Overall excellent experience and I'd highly recommend a visit. read more

This would be a Zero star review if I could. This is the worst restaurant I think I've ever eaten at. No one in the place, the waitress could barely answer our questions and they were actually out of schnitzel and several other items on the menu. The online menu is nothing like the menu we were given. No pictures and vague descriptions of the food. The menu says that everything is home made. This is Impossible to believe. When our food came out, I was handed a plate with a brat that was sliced for a 3-year old and a ramakin of BBQ sauce. The fries we paid $4.50 for came out as a soggy bunch with some strange seasoning on them. We believe that they were in a bag and taken out of the freezer to defrost and then deep friend. They weren't hot, just a soggy pile. I was in such disbelief that they'd even serve this. Finally, when the server came out and asked how things were, I blurted out that it all sucks. I just handed the plate back and said I'd just drink my Diet Coke. The bill came and they tried to charge me for this food that I couldn't even eat. I asked about that and was told that they prepared the food and if I didn't like it they couldn't help it. I just said I wasn't paying for it. The other person's food was slightly better--a brat in a bun with mustard and the same old soggy fries. We paid our bill and she was left an overly generous tip. Before we left a couple from Canada came in to eat and watch FIFA. I felt bad for not warning them that they didn't want to eat here. I have NEVER sent food back to the kitchen. This place was ridiculous and won't survive as a restaurant. read more

The location is memorable and the owner is such a nice man. The German curry catsup (yes, it's a thing there) was the best I have ever had. The beer was good too. But I didn't have the heart to tell him we were disappointed in the rest of the food. The schnitzel was not at all what I had hoped for....well par for the course in the states. I much prefer a vinegar and oil German potato salad to this made with way too much dill. The cabbage was not at all a cooked sweet and sour Bavarian style, rather overwhelming pepper flavor in the shredded green cabbage slaw. The flavors were off as another reviewer did mention. I wish I had trusted her. I do not understand all the positive reviews. I hope the owner figures it out and changes up his recipes, because this little town deserves a great German food stop. read more

The schnitzels were dry, thin, odd flavor, small and overall not a pleasant experience. Esp after waiting over 20 mins for two sandwiches. All I can say is WOW!!! The schnitzel sandwich on the kaiser roll was soooo delicious! Nothing like it. And the cheese pretzel: quite possibly the best German pretzel I've ever had. I had Bo's cater a party for me for about 25 people. They were extremely responsive to all of my emails and the food was ready promptly when we arrived to pick it up, although we could've had it delivered as well. We were outside the delivery but they were willing to deliver all the way to Franklin if we wanted them too. we ordered schnitzel, spatzel and pretzels. All of the food was fantastic. The schnitzel was so flavorful and the pretzels were so fresh. I received so many compliments from guests about how great the food was that everyone is asking that I host a similar Oktoberfest party next year. I would definitely use Bo's again and I would highly recommend them to anyone planning a gathering! read more

Nice guy in a small window shop. Schnitzel was good but the curried ketchup was a bit heavy handed and dominated the flavor a bit. I'd suggest getting it on the side so you can add it to your liking. He offered my kids gummies from Germany and delivered our food to the back patio. As a German I am all the time looking for where to get a good schnitzel when I travel to new places. The schnitzel was spot on, and I did not had a better one in the last 15 years that I am living here, even when I payed 2.5 times what it costs at Bo's. The potato salad, is the Black Forest version with yogurt and not with vinegar like the Bavarian one. The sauerkraut was different of what I am used here in the US. Not to forget the price is also very low compared to other German restaurants. Mathew ( Matthäus) told me he wanted to have it like an "Imbis Bude" ( German fast food stand in Germany). It comes very close, the only thing that is missing are an older lady that is working with him, and a stack of the "Bildzeitung". Charming place with a quaint, lakeside dining ambience. The food quality is great, but the flavors didn't really work for me. I was expecting German Wisconsin style and it's actually more German Indian food. The schnitzel breading has yellow turmeric and other curry spices. It was really unexpected and totally ruins the schnitzel. The chicken schnitzel has potential, but the curry spices and side of curry dipping sauce should really just be an option on the menu. Sadly, this is what I got and it wasn't appetizing. I also ordered a brat. Again, good quality, clean food, but the brat is only lightly browned and served with cold sauerkraut. Another disappointment. Their sauerkraut is a tasty cold salad however, but I'm looking for warm kraut on a warm, grilled or smoked brat. Overall, the brat was okay, but it's not something I would return for. The charming sidewalk location and lakeside dining atmosphere make it a special place to visit. The schnitzel and brat have potential. I would recommend classic schnitzel and brat options on the menu, and then the Indian curry version as an option. I'm a bit of a brat snob being here from Wisconsin. Traditional schnitzel is so darn good. Taking a bite into curry schnitzel was odd and unpleasant. What a great find! We found this place using the seed oil scout app. No seed oils, not even in the mayo. The chicken schnitzel sandwich on a pretzel bun was so good. We also had sauerkraut and the air fried waffle fries along with the curry wurst! It is a walk up window with some sidewalk seating and a few picnic tables around back by the lake. Dude... I had a Schnitzel here yesterday and it was PHENOMENAL. The sauce they put on REALLY compliments the seasoning on the patty. I'd wager that the sandwich would still be delicious without the sauce, but it's like icing on the cake for me. Not to mention, the people there are great as well. We have been searching for Neuremberg brats for years and usually only get them at the Chicago Christkindelmart. So happy to find the authentic taste right here! The sausage was delicious, Kaiser rolls soft and fresh and the pretzel roll upgrade on the pork schnitzel was also a nice touch. Friendly, helpful service.
