The shop itself is kind of hidden and hard to find at first since there's basically no signage, but that almost makes it better. It gives the place this cool you-know-somebody vibe that feels very NYC. Martin is clearly skilled at what he does, and it showed throughout the entire appointment. I have followed Joel to different shops and this one is by far the best one yet! He is stepping up his game and this shop shows some class but retains it's edgy feeling. It's kind of fun as the store itself has no sign out front, so you know the barbers are worth their salt as they are not really a drive in type of place. This is a review based solely on customer service and atmosphere and not quality of the hair cut, mostly because I never even made it that far. This place is a "bois" club, if your looking for a professional place and a nice atmosphere just do not even bother. I had seen that some people had to wait a while with out an appointment so I called the day before and scheduled on for 11am. I didn't have much going on so I ended up going in around 30 min early and thought "eh maybe I'll get in early or something." NOPE. When I walked in, I made eye contact with they guy cutting hair closest to the front desk, he asked me if I was here for a hair cut and I said yes, I have an appointment at 11 and he said okay and went back to doing his thing. I was like okay w/e, so I went and sat down at one of the chairs. There was no one else waiting to be helped when I sat down so I thought I might be able to get in sooner than I thought but right as one of the guys finished up, one of his buddies walked in and they greeted each other and small talked and then he sat him down and proceeded to cut his hair right as he walked in. My immediate thought was okay... that was kind of rude but what ever, maybe the next person will help me. NOPE. Person after person walked in and of course they all know each other by name and they get all happy to see each other and they start cranking music and hollering and goofing around and just keep helping each person that just walks in while I sit there. 11 am rolls around and its becoming clear that I'm not going to be helped anytime soon so I leave. Most unprofessional staff I've ever seen who clearly don't care for aquiring new customers and are more interested with shooting the shit with their bois and cranking rap music at the sound systems limits. Don't waste your time, go somewhere else. read more

Finally! A decent cut I can live with. After three-count them, THREE- bad cuts in a row, I had pretty much consigned myself to the permanent-crappy-hair-day bin, doomed to a hairstyle that makes me look like I did when I was 12, only with the fat wrinkled melon head of a middle aged...whatever. You get the idea. The Head Shop, and in particular Leon, finally got it right. I wanted a traditional look, nothing funky, clean-cut and business-sharp but easy to deal with every day, not too much product or fuss. And that's exactly what I got. Short on the sides fading to long up top, with no weird ridge or "mushroom" effect. Leon is a natural, smooth and efficient, and knows how to get it right the first time. Super happy with these guys. A solid haircut option in the south city- go figure. Sure, it might be in an odd place, (little strip mall next to a Costco and a utility company) but it's worth going out of your way for. They couldn't do anything about my melon head, but they sure did right by the mop on top of it! Note: MAKE A RESERVATION. It's easy to do, and it let's these guys take their time and get it right. O M G this is the place to be! I have been going everywhere for the purrrfect haircut and I finally found it! Its like magic over here, you tell them exactly what you want and it happens! I usually went to very generic hair places and every time I tell them what I want, it just doesn't turn out right and I pretty much look just like the hair place.... generic. BUT at this place I feel like a super star! You know me always trying to holler at the ladies... Every time I step up in here I am totally hyped up! I was in search of a new barber and did not know what to expect but Tim took really good care of me. He kept the convo to a reasonable amount and did a really good job on my head. I had scheduled the gentleman's executive which includes a straight shave so that was nice. Prices were more than fair especially since he got me in and out in half the time of my previous barber. Yesterday was the first time I've ever been to a barber and let me start by saying my experience at The Head Shop was honestly amazing. Amazing probably isn't even enough of a word to describe how it was. I usually go to a Vietnamese Salon since they're quick and easy. A friend recommended The Head Shop so I figured I'd give it a chance. I called in advance around 5pm to schedule an appointment but they were busy and scheduled me for 7pm later that night. I was supposed because they usually close around then but were willing to stay the extra hours for their clients. Even as a first time customers, that just wins you over. I arrived about 15 minutes early and waited a bit. The wait wasn't too long, and even then the workers still conversed to let me know they'd take care of me once they could. The atmosphere of the shop was very relaxing and comfortable. It litterally felt like a place you could relax and be yourself. It reminded me being at a friend's since the staff was so hospitable. Joel took care of me that night and he went above and beyond! Having never gone to a barber before, I really didn't know what to ask for. That wasn't an issue at all because Joel made it easy. I simply wanted a comb-over, nothing too fancy. The session was longer than a normal haircut I've gotten in the past but it was honestly great. I feel the barbers here genuinely care about what they do and you can easily tell as you're in that chair. They converse and make real conversations with you about this and that. It was nice because time just flies when you're having a one on one with someone. From arriving to the hair cut to the finished product, my overall experience was great! I can definitely see myself coming back again here. Worse haircut I've had in my life!! Troy was defensive, I asked if he could part my hair at a certain level and he handed me the comb with a "you tell me how to do my job" type of attitude. So I did! Don't give me that attitude! I flippin parted that sh*t myself! He took about 1.5 hours to finish. I didn't see the mirror at all while he was cutting my hair. I thought it was going to be great, since he took so long, but when he finally handed me the handheld mirror to check the back, I was flabbergasted. I asked him if he could bring it up a little bit on the sides, and again, defensive. He said it wouldn't work with my hair. I'm 34 flipping years old!
