Amazingly scrumptious authentic German food! Cute restaurant with high ceilings AND a Biergarten! Convenient parking right outside the restaurant! Super friendly and knowledgeable service! Happiest accidental discovery ever! What more could you want? Admittedly...I was hesitant about trying this place because the space had previously been unoccupied for so long, and the restaurant that was in the space before the Haus was...less than impressive, to put it gently. But man what a comeback story! I want everyone to eat here now! And when you do eat at the Haus, make sure you get... 1) The pretzel you will ever eat. No, stop your protesting, I don't care how good you think the pretzels you had before were, order the one at the Haus. Yes it's worth $14. It's buttery, soft, crispy, and yet satisfyingly chewy like a good pretzel should be. Oh, and it's YUGE, like bigger than my face, and my partner's face, combined. Even the mustard and cheese sauce serve with it was awesome. GET IT. 2) The Haus burger. Or really any of their burgers. The patty was super juicy and flavorful and the proportion of the cheese, garlic aioli and vegetables were laid out so that you get every component in each bite. Just a really well constructed burger, and yes the bacon in this burger was shatteringly crispy (RESPECT) which normally doesn't happen in a big burger. I would definitely order this again and try their other burgers, and this is coming from someone who isn't at all a burger person! 3) The warm German potato salad. Yes, if you grew up in America, rid your mind of any preconceived ideas of what potato salad is. This is...I don't know if I would say better, but definitely refreshingly different. In place of mayo and relish you have potatoes cooked down with vinegar, apples, onions and bacon. The tart, sweet, savory and fruity notes makes this the perfect side to cut the richness of the burger I ate it with. 4) The apple strudel. OMG. First of all, again, MASSIVE - I don't think they know how to do small portion sizes here! But more importantly, absolutely delicious - the tart, spiced apples were soft but still had structure so they added texture, the raisins added both sweetness and tartness, and the phyllo crust was baked super crispy and golden brown and delicious. Aaaaannnd...take this as the ultimate compliment from an Asian palate - it was NOT TOO SWEET. *cue angels singing and emotional violins* With French vanilla ice cream, it was the perfect ending to the meal. Here's what we still very much enjoyed, with disclaimer: 1) Haus schnitzel - as the menu states, a bit different because there's coconut in the breading. I will also say that, perhaps because of this, the coating cooked up different than the traditional schnitzel "puffed and lifted" crust. So was it traditional? Not really, and the menu sort of said so. But was it delicious? Yes, we mauled the plate before we realized we probably should take a photo. If you're a fan of coconut shrimp, this is what it reminded us of but with juicy white meat chicken - which is hard to do since chicken breast is easy to overcook and dry out. Would order again. 2) Spaetzle - I personally really enjoyed how this ate with the schnitzel. The spaetzle dumplings themselves were nice and chewy and the light sauce they were coated in had a really good hit of nutmeg that I personally really appreciated. My partner, on the other hand, is accustomed to the spaetzle being pan seared in butter, herbs and onions/shallots. Apparently that's what he thinks is traditional but maybe it's a regional difference? In any case this could also just be a matter of personal preference. I wouldn't mind having this again but actually much prefer the German potato salad! That said...our first meal here and we're already thinking about when we're going to have our next meal here and what we'll order. Compliments to Chef Henry for making our tastebuds and tummies happy and shoutout to our server Georgie for extremely friendly and helpful service! We're so happy you're part of the Oak Glen community!

We like the Calimesa location already and it's hard to beat the atmosphere of Oak Glen on a cool evening and that fresh mountain air.

The Haus Bistro - Their house made chips, with parmesan and rosemary added. Good, but I think the original, plain ones are better.

I finally tried it after years of passing by, ended up going in on a slow workday by myself, and I'm glad I did. The artichoke hearts were honestly one of the highlights, really well done. The beer selection is also unique and worth exploring if you're into trying something outside the usual. Service stood out too. I had a newer waitress who was still in training, and she handled everything really well. Attentive, polite, and didn't miss a step, which says a lot. The place itself is clean and has a classy feel without trying too hard. It's not somewhere I'd go all the time, but that's kind of the point. It feels more like a spot for special occasions or when you want something a little more unique and elevated than the usual rotation. Solid experience overall. 4 stars.

Would you expect a small market to pack a punch with good beer and German food? No? Well, try…read moreGeorge's Market and find out The Reuben sandwich with warm german potato salad was a banger. Meat was juicy, sauce is plentiful, and it all conglomerates into a messy sandwich of deliciousness. Sausages are the other star here. The Spicy Hungarian sausage with mustard was absolutely a banger as well. It's a nice light kick and savory flavor with each bite. We finished off with a Cherry strudel which was not too sweet but still had the nice sugary finish of a dessert. I feel like I'm rambling but long story short, great food, great beer, great time. Have a slice of European cuisine out in Calimesa.

Food: We ordered the half Reuben sandwich with a side of warm German potato salad, a spicy…read moreHungarian sausage, and finished with a cherry strudel for dessert alongside a German beer on tap. The Reuben and potato salad combo was especially hearty and satisfying, with rich, savory flavors that felt very true to a classic deli experience. The Hungarian sausage had a great depth of flavor, savory and well-seasoned without tipping into being overly salty. The cherry strudel was a standout to end the meal, filled generously with cherries and syrup, wrapped in a flaky pastry that balanced sweetness and texture really well. The beer tied everything together nicely, cold and refreshing, and exactly what you'd want with this kind of meal. I still prefer Busy Bees in San Pedro, but this was a nice alternative within the IE area. Price: George's Market falls into a casual, reasonable deli pricing tier. Sandwiches like the Reuben and similar deli items are generally in the mid‑teens range, while sausage plates and hot meals can push closer to around $15-20 depending on what you get. Beer and imported items vary, but overall you can expect to spend about $15-25 per person for a solid, filling meal. Given the quality, portion sizes, and specialty nature of the food, the pricing feels fair. Ambiance: The space is part cozy German market, part deli counter, with a warm, wood-heavy interior that feels inviting and a bit nostalgic. There's both indoor seating and an outdoor area, giving flexibility depending on the weather or how busy it is. Beyond the dining area, the market itself sells a wide range of German groceries and specialty products, which adds to the charm and makes it feel like more of an experience than just a quick meal. Service: Service was good and impressively efficient given how busy it gets. There was a noticeable line when we went (especially on a weekend lunch time), but things moved steadily and the staff kept everything organized without feeling rushed or chaotic. Friendly and straightforward overall. Parking: Parking is one of the easier parts of the visit. It's located in a plaza with a large shared lot, so there's plenty of space and no real hassle finding a spot, even during peak hours.

It's not bad, it just lost some of what made it stand out. The food is still really solid though, which is why I keep coming back. The aguachile is one of the best things on the menu, super fresh with a good kick, and the tacos are consistently done right. Simple, clean, and you know what you're getting every time. It's a nice sit-down restaurant if you want to actually relax and eat instead of rushing through a meal. Service is usually solid even when it's busy. Fair warning, it gets packed after church and the wait can build up quick, so timing matters if you don't want to sit around. Not the same as it used to be, but still worth it for the food.

The food was honestly a hard 5 out of 10. The beans and chips were very good, but that was the highlight. It was just my husband and me: I got one shredded beef taco with a side of beans, he got three tacos, and we had two drinks total. The bill came out to $33 and some change, which just didn't feel worth it for the quality. I really wish it lived up to the Tacos & Beer I remember.
