My wife and I have a home in Bethany Beach with a steep roof. In heavy rainstorms water would spill over the gutters, so we looked on Yelp and had The Gutter Guys come out to give us an estimate to fix the problem. The result: I needed larger 6" gutters and downspouts, priced at about $6,000 for the job. We signed the contract on the spot, in the end of January (when we weren't here) they came out to do the work, sent the bill electronically the next day, which I paid the day I received it with the work sight unseen. BIG MISTAKE!!!! A few months later we got to our vacation home and could not believe the job. Yes, the gutters and downspouts were replaced, but the drip edge (running from under the roof shingles and wrapping around the corners of the roof) looked like an opened tuna can. Worse, actually. Pictures are attached. Upon reaching out to The Gutter Guys it took about 2 weeks before the sales rep who sold me the job could come look at it. He told me what was done to get the old gutters off the house was "normal." If that's normal, I wonder what abnormal would look like. He did note some areas that needed more work and told me the crew would come back to address the other issues. And he told me that to fix the problem caused by his crew I'd have to go to a roofer. That was in May. By August they had not shown up to fix any of the issues, though I did have two other gutter companies come to look at the work and advise me on how to fix it. Both of the other gutter companies said they'd never seen a roof drip edge left in that condition and that "normal" was certainly not the word they'd use to describe it. After repeated conversations with The Gutter Guys sales rep he did say his crew should have noted the problem and that, as a minimum, I should have been sent pictures so I'd know what to expect when we returned to the home in the spring. In late August The Gutter Guys refunded roughly 10% of the job's price for the drip edge. My wife and I just got the roof replaced -- many times more expensive than the 10% refund -- to fix the problem caused by The Gutter Guys. We're now having the house painted, and just found wood rot (see picture) under one of the downspouts that were replaced by The Gutter Guys. It's not possible that their crew missed this wood rot, but, like the other problems and substandard work, I wasn't informed of this. And I wouldn't have known as the problem became worse had I not been getting my house painted. I'm willing to guarantee that the owner of The Gutter Guys wouldn't tolerate this kind of work on his own home. And I'll also guarantee none of the crew who did this to my house would have done this kind of work on their own homes. Gutter Guys are perfect for your job. Provided that you're looking for workers who will damage your home, not let you know about it, cover it up, and have to be dragged kicking and screaming to take any degree of accountability for their shoddy work. I interviewed Gutter Guys to fix an issue I was having with gutter overflow. I was contacted and by a representative within a few days and then came out to look over the job and suggested a possible fix. He gave me a very reasonable price and I contracted with them. The installers contacted me and made an appointment to remove the old gutters and downspouts. On the day scheduled, Hunter and Will showed up and proceeded to do the work. They were fast and did a fabulous job. Can't say enough about their work but it was clean and fast and cleaned up afterwards. I was able to test the job because of a rain storm scheduled for the weekend. The gutters and downspouts did the job. I can't recommend Gutter Guys or Hunter and Will enough. Here's what you need to know about The Gutter Guys - 1. If you currently have a guard or screen and need a cleaning do not use this company! Go with a competitor. There are many that are willing to help and it will save you $500. I had wire mesh screens they removed that decreased the amount of cleanings required. You claim if they worked that the gutters would not need to be cleaned? Even the very best systems require cleaning over time! 2. They do not stand behind their work. You cleaned my gutters and the next significant rain storm I had water pouring over the edge at several locations. I asked if someone can come out and take a look and your response was that you don't guarantee your work and refused to come without a charge. I met AJ Parker 3 years ago when I moved to De. I First had him install gutter guards on my 2nd floor gutters to see if I liked them. They worked great. The next year I had to install a new roof, so I had them install the gutter guards on my 1st floor. I live in a house that has many gables, it looks beautiful until it starts to rain. Did a job for me and charged a significant amount. A gutter was left clogged. Since it is a vacation home it was not evident to me until the end of the season. They refused to complete the job because it had bee four months. Refused to even come look at it without charge. Given there are no trees close to my roof I felt the gutter guys were not being very reasonable guys nor very reasonable businessmen. I guess they don't care about return business! read more
