My wife and I have a home in Bethany Beach with a steep roof. In heavy rainstorms water would spill…read moreover the gutters, so we looked on Yelp and had The Gutter Guys come out to give us an estimate to fix the problem. The result: I needed larger 6" gutters and downspouts, priced at about $6,000 for the job. We signed the contract on the spot, in the end of January (when we weren't here) they came out to do the work, sent the bill electronically the next day, which I paid the day I received it with the work sight unseen. BIG MISTAKE!!!! A few months later we got to our vacation home and could not believe the job. Yes, the gutters and downspouts were replaced, but the drip edge (running from under the roof shingles and wrapping around the corners of the roof) looked like an opened tuna can. Worse, actually. Pictures are attached. Upon reaching out to The Gutter Guys it took about 2 weeks before the sales rep who sold me the job could come look at it. He told me what was done to get the old gutters off the house was "normal." If that's normal, I wonder what abnormal would look like. He did note some areas that needed more work and told me the crew would come back to address the other issues. And he told me that to fix the problem caused by his crew I'd have to go to a roofer. That was in May. By August they had not shown up to fix any of the issues, though I did have two other gutter companies come to look at the work and advise me on how to fix it. Both of the other gutter companies said they'd never seen a roof drip edge left in that condition and that "normal" was certainly not the word they'd use to describe it. After repeated conversations with The Gutter Guys sales rep he did say his crew should have noted the problem and that, as a minimum, I should have been sent pictures so I'd know what to expect when we returned to the home in the spring. In late August The Gutter Guys refunded roughly 10% of the job's price for the drip edge. My wife and I just got the roof replaced -- many times more expensive than the 10% refund -- to fix the problem caused by The Gutter Guys. We're now having the house painted, and just found wood rot (see picture) under one of the downspouts that were replaced by The Gutter Guys. It's not possible that their crew missed this wood rot, but, like the other problems and substandard work, I wasn't informed of this. And I wouldn't have known as the problem became worse had I not been getting my house painted. I'm willing to guarantee that the owner of The Gutter Guys wouldn't tolerate this kind of work on his own home. And I'll also guarantee none of the crew who did this to my house would have done this kind of work on their own homes. Gutter Guys are perfect for your job. Provided that you're looking for workers who will damage your home, not let you know about it, cover it up, and have to be dragged kicking and screaming to take any degree of accountability for their shoddy work. Worst company I have ever worked with. Absolutely horrible. RUN, DON'T WALK, AWAY FROM THE GUTTER GUYS.

My wife and I just returned from our 2nd trip from Lewes, Delaware to take a 2nd look at a resale…read moreSchell built home and another resale home in another neighborhood. The 1st home was in Coastal Club which we were very impressed with,by one of the Whimbrel model homes ...the quaility ,the club house facilities and the general location. We visited the house and clubhouse and the last thing we did was go over to the garden area, since one of my hobbies is gardening. On the way out near the garden shed we ran into a man that was going to do some end of season garden plot cleanup. We had a conversation about how nice the gardens were ,and we then ask him what he thought of the neighborhood and he started to tell us he was moving out after living there for 3 years and he was selling his house as he was very disgruntled with how the Coastal Club membership turned him off due to the many real estate listings that were advertising the Club as a resort and renting houses and townhouses in rectless ways. He said in the summer there are so many renters that on most days you can't use the club facilties especially the pool. I got on line this afternoon and read about a petition that the owners have put together and read about the problems on other websites. Then we found out that there is a exorbitant price to pay to belong to the club, which no one had mentioned early on... approximately $5000 every year and then a quarterly fee. I think the yearly total fee is like over $8000 to be a member. We thought the monthly $270 HOA fee + a one time $5000 fee was all that was required. All this has unfortunately turned us off and away from buying retirement in that neighborhood. The 2nd house we looked at in another neighborhood, a little older and it also had a clubhouse. It was an OK house but not as impressive as the 1st house. On the way out of that neighborhood we saw a lady walking her dogs and we stopped our car and ask her if she wouldn't mind if we ask her a few questions about the neighborhood and about Schell homes. She said the neighbood was very nice and she has lived there 6 years. She bought her home new and was not to happy about too many problems that had to get resolved such as roofing defects, several water leaks,Washer and dryer problems. Just talking to these several people in the 2 neighborhoods and then reading about about all negative comments( yes I read the positive ones also) makes my wife and I wonder why we would want to continue too look a homes any further in Schell home built communities? We were very impressed at first ,but sorry to say, kind of depressed ,feeling we wasted our time and very disappointed after getting more details about these neighborhoods and homes as a possible place to move and retire to for us. Delay delay delay and then sorry no longer under warranty. Poor quality. Dryer vent is vented up through Laundry Room ceiling to second floor and vented out the ROOF! To make matters worse, it is the wrong vent installed. Had to have professional vent cleaner come unclog the vent and soooooo close to a fire. When we called NV homes they told us we were out of warranty to go to Angies list. WHAT???? It was almost a fire. The lint that was removed was black! How would we know it was the wrong vent!!??? All of our neighbors have a different vent. Oh and the neighbor with the same house as ours has the vent going out on the first floor. Stay away. All good when they are selling...... then downhill.

NV fix just put a piece of plywood over damaged cabinet. Moved into a home with 2/3 tile done backsplash kitchen, over a month later installation, however, the work was horrible. The cabinets installation is poor to put it mildly And Cabinets from manufacturer should have never been installed they were so poorly constructed, even the color on the moldings was uneven or not there at all Thermostats were not only installed the wrong ones but installed improperly Heating unit outside was recalled within three months of owning home that process was horrific. Site managers are terrible. Drywall Wayne Drywall worst contractor ever. From major dents in the walls so uneven, nail pops over and over again. Ceilings needed repairs as well. The Drywall repairs were never done properly. Paint all over everything messiest painters or no paint at all in some spots in bathrooms. Flooring on stairs staining ie painting had to be redone and that needed to be redone porch roof not installed properly. Lights either. Bathroom grout not done properly in all bathrooms. Tub in the upstairs bathroom drain was not installed properly Mechanisms to deal with warranty issues are unacceptable at best. Would never by a NV again. Buyer beware. I understand Supply chain issues and lack of staff, however dealing with NV was so stressful not worth it and they did not ever do a good job ever. 1. Do not close unless you have the home inspected and they fix everything prior to close! They wanted us to close on a house that they had registered the street name improperly with the county, we would have had no utilities. While their claim at the end was that would have not happened. I spoke with all utility companies and they disagreed. I take their word over NV. Getting this fixed took way longer than it should have.
