The employees at the front were openly discussing personal topics, including "baby daddy" drama and other conversations that were completely inappropriate to be having loudly around customers. It was a strange first impression for a business that is supposed to take firearm safety and professionalism seriously. Once we got onto the range, we were assigned an employee named Rob. He made what should have been a simple, enjoyable range session extremely irritating. He constantly hovered over us, interrupted us, criticized our shooting, and repeatedly talked about his own experience and qualifications. Instead of being there primarily for safety and assistance when needed, it felt like he wanted to turn the entire session into a lecture about himself. There is a difference between a range officer correcting something unsafe and someone constantly breathing down your neck while you're trying to use range time you paid for. Rob crossed that line repeatedly. The range also has some ridiculous additional-charge policies. There are areas around the target system where hitting something can supposedly result in a $25 charge. I completely understand charging someone who recklessly damages equipment, but the way these rules are structured feels like another opportunity to charge customers extra money. I've been to other indoor ranges and have never experienced anything this excessive. The worst part was that we paid for a full hour and didn't even receive the full hour. Our session was cut short because the employees said they needed to clean the range. Nobody told us before we paid that the range would be closing early or that our session would be shortened. We were still charged the full amount. Between the unprofessional conversations at the front desk, Rob's attitude and constant interruptions, overpriced ammo and supplies, excessive extra-charge policies, poor communication, and the small range itself, there really wasn't much about the experience that would make me want to come back. There are plenty of ranges where the employees understand how to keep customers safe without hovering over them or making the entire experience uncomfortable. I'll be going somewhere else next time.

I bought a vintage revolver from Trop Gun Shop in January of 2022. They missed something on a form…read more(would not tell me which form), and in February called to tell me I had to drive 60 miles round trip to fix the form. When I pointed out the issue with that, they said they would mail it certified. (Hint: They failed to do so). Fast forward to June of 2022, and they are calling again with the same problem after dropping the ball back in February. They seemed 'cranky' when I suggested they work on their communications, and I read them their own messages from February. 'Troy' threatened me with calling the state police over the issue! I called the state police myself to find the proper way of fixing the paperwork mistake, and I'll be making the drive to see for myself the form is done properly. Now, I'm told by a Trop employee that 'Troy' there is an expert on compliance, and the state police supervisor in charge of their firearms compliance section (when I called) in PA is wrong about how the paperwork must be handled. Pardon me if I take that with a grain of salt. I worked for years with PA government compliance folks and found them very knowledgeable indeed. I have been in the store since February to buy another firearm, and I've purchased 5 or 6 firearms from Trop in the last year or two, but obviously won't be doing so again. No worries though. They've never actually seemed happy when I spent money there. As a retired businessman and teacher, I like to see what makes a business tick. After this surprising treatment from what is actually a 'value added' seller of common commodities (A business that sells common items and makes its mark with service), I turned to Indeed.com to see how their employees have been rating them. There, the picture became quite clear. (Another hint: rated 2.7 out of 5 on both Indeed and Glassdoor by their own employees). I recognize the huge investment Trop has made in their locations, but in a business that thrives on customer service, I don't think their management has deciphered the path to success. There are any number of firearms sellers in this area that are noticeably happy to have customers. Reading through Trop's reviews on various sites, I see that my poor experience was just one of a multitude. I'll say I understand the other reviews based on my own experiences there. The place LOOKS great, but their employees seem unhappy, are often surly, and the operation appears disorganized and badly managed. The times I was there at the store picking up a purchase, I never once failed to see customers leave after being unable to get help at the counter while employees ignored them. Nice place, if they ever figure out why they are in business.

And I was totally impressed with how he dealt with them and even though he had an opportunity to make a much bigger sale, he directed them in a more professional direction... pointing out the added safeguards for a new user of a handgun. The very first ride went straight for about ¼ of a mile and when turning to go the opposite direction the entire handle bar turned but not the wheel. This is about half hour after taking a brand new bike from the store, literally talking with the mechanic and him assuring me that everything was good to go, also a final inspection card signed by someone stating that specific unit(bicycle) had been inspected for safety was included with the paper work. I have all the paper work. The handle bar was completely loose from the stem I was explained after consulting a professional mechanic in one of the local shops in Lancaster. He was very amazed that someone would do that. The owner manual repletely emphasis that a professional mechanic should assemble the bike if one does not know or has been trained to do so. I shared this so the same thing don't happen to someone else. Imagine if this would've been a child they don't have the same touch or awareness as an adult. I forgot to take photos this time (other than us hitting targets), but the setting alone is worth it. Lehigh Valley Sporting Clays is set in an old cement quarry from the late 1800s, and the rustic feel is totally unique. It really adds to the whole sporting clays experience. On our most recent visit, December 17, 2025, we had a group of three. We rented 20-gauges and bought ammo to run all 17 stations. We're not newbies, but we don't shoot clays all the time, so it took us about three hours. Since it was during the week before Christmas, it wasn't very busy, which gave us time to get back into the rhythm. I've been closer to Christmas and around Thanksgiving before, and it can definitely get busy then. I called ahead to make a reservation, which I recommend. First-timers need to fill out waivers, and if you're renting a shotgun you'll complete a green waiver when you arrive. If anyone in your group has never handled a shotgun before, they also offer group lessons to get everyone up to speed. I'll definitely be back--no question.
