If you want the best in quality guitars, amps and customer service, The Guitar Sanctuary is the place you need to go. They carry the finest. I recently went in to investigate Mesa amps and Brian helped me. I wasn't sure which model was the best fit for me and Brian helped steer to the right choice at a great price. A month later, I thought the amp was having issues (turned out i was getting interference from my WIFI modem through my pickups) and I took it to the Sanctuary to get their help. Brian spent hours making sure the tubes were warmed and the amp was put through the paces. Turns out no issues, thank goodness. I want to sing my praise for The Sanctuary and specifically Brian for your awesome customer service. Besides the retail store, they have a fantastic venue for live shows. They also have all the relevant accessories, such as amps, picks, etc. The guitars are offered in a wide range of prices, so they can easily fit into anybody's budget. Joe Vanzant was a great teacher, both for traditional and for electric guitar. I really learned a lot about guitars from taking his lessons for almost 3 years. Went to Guitar Sanctuary to buy a pedal they were offering at a discount (Jackson Fuzz, with a module included). I was impressed by the beauty of the development this shop is housed in. Going to Adriatica is like stepping into a Mediterranean village. The store itself is very nice. The "country club" of guitar shops in every sense, including the large selection of custom and "expensive" guitars. Beautiful interior, and I believe they host concerts and events there too. If you're looking for a store that focuses on premium products and experiences, this is it. read more

To begin things off here, they advertised my online purchase as having a case with a replaced handle, while they failed to mention that the handle was zip-tied on. Mind you, this was a $4,000+ purchase of a used, 2004 Bourgeois acoustic guitar. It should also be noted that the packaging of the guitar was done haphazardly, with both the case not fully secured in the shipping box and the guitar left to move about freely in its less-than-snug case. Fast forward a month and a half and I noticed the bridge lifting. Having no luthier options around me I'm now having to purchase tools to fix a guitar that I just purchased and still owe $3,500 on. All things considered, you're likely better off going somewhere else for an online purchase. read more

This review is for the Live Music portion of this business. I went to see Pat Travers Band there a few months ago. It's a small venue with good sound. I was surprised to see tables up front, and a few rows of seats behind them. I had just bought a single ticket so I was in the "cheap " seats in the back. The sound was good, I wished I had been closer but tables seemed to be for groups. The bar/ food area was poorly arranged. I just wanted a beer. I had to get into a VERY long line. Once it finally was my turn, I discovered that I had to tell person who beside the bartender what I wanted (One beer) He orders it on a mobile computer pad, and I pay. He then turns to tell the bartender beside him, who is twiddling his thumbs, my order. The waiting in line and then this divided labor took a good 30 minutes. For one beer. i guess you had order food and bar items through this process. Needless to say, I never got into that line again. Unfortunately that line stayed extremely long all night. Whoever is in charge of food and beverage there needs to figure out a new flow if they hope to make a profit. Once the concert was over, I went out into a pitch black parking lot to find my car. The parking lot seemed to have a few sections and neither had lights. I was a lone female and felt very uncomfortable walking to my car in complete darkness. The venue seems to be in a neighborhood. It seems like the place has good sound, good sight lines. Tables take up the close areas and unless you are on a table, expect to sit in a row of chairs in the back. Don't really expect to get a beer without a very long wait and be prepared for a pitch black parking While walking to your car. read more

I bought a guitar stand , site unseen, thanked the person who took my money twice , no return thank you for shopping with us. I'm assume it's similar to a Rolex AD you need to spend a ton of cash on items you can buy elsewhere (like everything other then a Rolex) cheaper before you get any friendly banter ( in Rolex's AD case sell you a Rolex). Nice store with a unique design and layout. I bought an amp around $1K and the young man that assisted me was very knowledgeable, friendly and seemed genuinely happy to help me. I've gone a couple other times for pedals and cheap accessories. The older gentleman with long hair seemed annoyed with my questions and very smug in general. Maybe it's just me, but I got the feeling I should go somewhere else for accessories. Which makes sense because their prices are marked up on accessories. Note well: I'm not (yet) a guitar player. I've never set foot in the actual store here, but what I have done on a couple of occasions is attended an event at "The Sanctuary". This is a very cool, unique little venue that has incredible styling, not unlike, well, a sanctuary! The acoustics are a little bit echo-y due to a lot of hard surfaces, but not bad. The stage is easily visible from all vantage points and lighting is superb, you'll never complain about not being able to see your band/performer. Parking is not great (just a surface lot), but there's enough if you're willing to walk a little if you arrive late. There's usually bar service and drinks are fairly reasonable considering the situation. Bottom line, it's a very intimate place to see a show, definitely check it out if you see someone on their calendar that you like! read more

I was convinced that a recent change in environment had led my new Martin to develop a belly bulge as the action had gotten way too high to be playable. After some research I decided to take it to guitar sanctuary and have them check it out. I was greeted by a friendly guy at the front desk who asked what he could help me with and when I described what I was looking for he had one of his coworkers escort me back to the repair area. Once there the repairman stopped what he was doing and was quick to help me out. It turned out bad it was a combination of changing strings and environmental conditions but all I needed was a quick truss rod adjustment. He fixed it super quick and handed it back to me and said have a great day. I ended up picking up a hydration pack from them. Super friendly and welcoming guys and a great experience. I visited GS today as I was driving home from Dallas. Probably one of the nicest guitar stores I've ever visited -- almost too nice! They have a great selection of high-end instruments (Tom Anderson, Suhr, Knaggs etc.) which I enjoyed seeing. Some really beautiful -- and very expensive -- guitars. I was greeted and acknowledged when I came in and was told to let them know if I had any questions. Friendly enough. I was also instructed not to take down any guitars ... they would do it for me (in case I failed to comprehend the meaning of the "Ask for Assistance" cards that were on every guitar in the store). No problem. I get it. I wasn't really there to buy, so it was cool. I'm of the mind that you don't try unless you're ready to buy. That said, I think this store could use a better sales staff. I did ask about a Vigier that was on display and commented that I had never seen one in person. "Yeah, those are great." was the response and that was it. I was kind of surprised the salesman didn't at least ask if I would like to give it a try. (The store was empty except for a few kids who were there for lessons.) A good salesman would have, at least in my opinion, taken a shot. But maybe that's not how this place works. Maybe guitars that nice just sell themselves. Regardless, this is a beautiful store with a very impressive inventory (including a really great selection of pedals). I enjoyed my short visit there and would recommend that any guitar nut drop in and take a look around. It's worth the trip. read more

If there was a six rating I'd hit that one too. First person I ever met there was Shane on my first visit. I'm a private banker by trade and so I'd been wanting to branch out into a nice, relaxing hobby. I chose music and guitars and began working on some skills. Started by bringing up an '83 Strat that I had which had been pimped out by the previous owners with brass nuts and a flashy pick guard. Shane was kind enough to get all of that fixed for me, as well as change the strings on a low-level Martin I had for open mic nights. About six months later, I was in a band and actually needed help with equipment. Once again Shane was very helpful and not in the least standoffish towards someone who is by no means a "pro." The Mckinney location was wonderful and downtown Mckinney was really starting to get a great reputation for good restaurants and live music. Never once was I made to feel that I shouldn't pursue music. In fact, I was able to sign up for some guitar lessons with Korey Hicks to help me figure out chord structures and also a few lead fills. Shane even asked our band to play at his customer appreciation night at Zin Zen wine bar. I had an illness and the band broke up, as most bands do--so I was out for about a year or so handling other stuff. In the meantime I moved up the ladder at work and was finally rewarded with a bonus big enough to buy my own high-end guitar. As a way to keep in shape, I began to play with my church worship band. Enter Clint and Brian, who had patiently helped me through several visits prior. To their credit, they were always nice and cordial and never once refused to give me anything but top notch service. They know I'm nothing compared to their guitar skills but they gave me legit help. I felt like I really wanted a great acoustic to lead worship and Clint put me onto the most amazing Breedlove custom that I've ever heard. I own Taylors and Martins and this Breedlove puts them both to shame!! He also gave me a great deal with an accompanying ES-335 (another dream guitar for me). Shane also turned me on to the AER amp, great for one man shows on acoustic and for amazing sound on vocals too. There has never been a time that Daniel has set up my guitar and actually charged me (the ones that I bought there), and every time I need something fixed they are always there. Clint was kind enough to build me a pedal board for electric guitar in worship style with the reverb, delay, drive, etc. It's been a great load of fun learning. A worship director I know said I went from having no pedal board to having a bad a$$ one! Of course I've returned the favor by buying a couple more Andersons there as well as a Jackson Amp (yes, because of Nigel Hendroff just like you bought your guitar like Stevie Ray Vaughan!). To be honest, they've also been a good sounding board for my used/second-hand purchases, letting me know whether or not they are good deals so that I don't get stuck with them if I decide to resell them. Bottom line, I will never have their guitar skills, nor will I ever be a professional because banking is too good to me. But I've been treated like a king over there and if you come in with the right attitude there's no reason you won't be treated the same. The stuff I've read negative is just simply not true in any of my experiences. Maybe these folks just visited on a bad day. My 9 year old daughter comes in with me on occasion and I see kids shuffling up and down all the time through there taking lessons. They invite their customers to play at events all the time. I've seen the guys talk to lowly-skilled (like me) and highly-skilled guitarists the same way. I've never seen them refuse to let someone play a guitar. Maybe I'm different because I ask for help and don't expect people to drop what they're doing and serve me. I've seen them help wives and mothers who know nothing find guitars. Yes they are Christian-themed store and are closed Sunday and Monday. No defending that and personally I don't think it's necessary to do so. I'm happy to drive almost an hour across town from Highland Village because I know these guys will treat me right. read more

Being a guitarist for over 50 years I never turn down a chance to go and look at guitars and when I saw a guitar store on Google + with a name like Guitar Sanctuary I had to check it out. I told my grandson about it and he was all excited to go. Well our first trip up to McKinney was on a Monday..and no where on their Google+ page did they have they were closed on Monday...Strike ONE!!! So we made it back up there on Wednesday. You would expect more customer service.. especially with the limited inventory they have in the store. I was hugely disappointed to bring my guitar crazy 10 yr old grandson over 40 miles to walk into their store and none of the four employees at the counter having any interest in showing us around. They seem to be more interested in discussing some issues they were having with credit cards sales, for which, judging by the over the top prices they had on their guitars they probably were dealing with a lot of credit cards. I could not tell from where this store was located who they were marketing mostly high end guitars to since they were located in an upscale section of McKinney, Texas which is by far not in or near any music market I am aware of...so for the employees not attempting to service anyone who came in the door was rather shocking.. Even when I walked almost into one of them to get around the four huddle up at the counter looking at reports I got no reaction from any of them to help show us around. Every guitar in the store had a sign on it saying.."Ask for Assistance" ..yaw, right..and who would that be? We even stopped and looked at a magazine thinking that would draw the employees attention..but NO.. We left after standing around looking for 45 minutes...even my grandson asked.."what was the point of them having all those guitars if they were not going to let anyone play them???" Good question. I think I'll point all the people I know who are looking for guitars to places in Dallas. read more

I think I better write a review bc it seems all the negative ones are saying they were treated poorly by pretentious staff. I don't know where that came from, bc gotta tell you, my experience was great. I came in wearing flip flops, short , a ball cap. and basic shirt. I don't look like a guitarist. I certainly don' look like I have a lot of money. But, someone asked me if I needed help while I was looking at pedals and I was helped (Trey was his name). I even had very non-technical requirements (I said I wanted a reverb that didn't sound as "cheesy" like my TC HoF, but was easy to operate). I even told Trey I do a better job evaluating gear if I let someone else play and stand out in space, and he grabbed a guitar and started demoing. It was awesome, he was very nice and informative! I walked out with a Nuenabor Immerse 15-20 mins later. In fact, as a side note, I don't know why people are saying the folks that work here aren't nice. I even heard a couple of the people at the shop tell a customer, "hey man, that guitar sounds nice" when he came in to pick something he must of dropped off for set-up. Pretty nice for people to admire your gear right? I do not max out at 5 stars though. Because, I wish, they had more pro-level guitars that are not custom shop level to sell to folks with more of the 1k-2k budget. From what I see, they do have a few of those guitars, but that isn't the focus at this store. I think that is on purpose, but I really want to stop going to GC and deal small biz. McKinney is also out of the way for me, and so I won't head out there unless I'm combining with at least one more errand. I think you guys ought to plan a day out there. It's a great place. Guitar Sanctuary is a great shop with amazing inventory. They fill an important gap in the DFW guitar market, and I've had nothing but great service from them in my trips to McKinney. However, the first reviewer, Scot D., seems to be holding a grudge, and honestly, clueless. And that's a shame. Yes, Guitar Sanctuary is closed Sunday and Monday. I'm betting that's because it's a small shop, not a giant corporation, and they need a few days off once in a while, as do we all. It would be silly to close up on Saturday, so Sunday and Monday seem to make great sense to me.You'd think someone like Scot Duke, with all his self-proclaimed years of experience, might think to actually look up the hours of a small shop before making the drive. No, Scot's going to slag the place because he didn't see the hours on Google+. Sounds to me like Scot made a mistake. I hate to make this about another reviewer, but he's giving a wholly inaccurate account of Guitar Sanctuary. He claims their inventory is "limited." The only way I could see that being the case is if you're looking for $200 starter acoustics and BC Rich kiddie shred machines. Guitar Sanctuary has the finest inventory in Dallas. It's not the largest, but there are a lot of guitars here. The thing is, they're ALL GREAT GUITARS. You don't have to wade through a sea of garbage to find something amazing. Scot also complained that none of the employees would help him. I can only speak for my experience at Guitar Sanctuary, where the staff was nothing but helpful. They struck the perfect mix of helping, and hands-off so I could play. On my last trip, I auditioned half a dozen wonderful guitars, and I did not feel pressured to buy in the slightest. I was left alone to explore the instrument in my own manner. You do not get chances like this anywhere else; to play very high-end guitars by yourself. This is a fantastic thing for guitarists in the metroplex, and for someone to complain they were left alone with half-a-million dollars in guitar inventory is simply idiotic. I can only assume Scot D. feels at home in Guitar Center, where the sales people follow your every move and make you feel like an intruder for trying to strum a Taylor 210. Let me be very clear on one point. Every time I've visited Guitar Sanctuary, I walked up to a staff member, asked if I could play a guitar, and I was left alone to play whatever I wished. I can't fathom that Scot would stand around for 45 minutes, looking at magazines, just silently hoping someone would grant him permission to touch a guitar. There are signs everywhere that instruct you to ask, and I guarantee you, if ye ask, ye shall play. The Guitar Sanctuary staff are not sales people and they are not going to hang all over you and pressure you into buying. This is a good thing. Sorry to make this more of a review of one moron than the guitar shop, but I'm absolutely shocked and miffed to see the first and only review of this killer shop is by a fool besmirching their good name. Don't listen to Scot. Go to Guitar Sanctuary. You'll be blown away. read more

I have over 25 years of experience when it comes to guitar shops. I worked for Kelly Barber in college who owns Action Sound. I owned my own guitar shop in Terrell for about 10 years. Have stopped by most music shops over much of this part of America. Nothing, and I mean nothing, touched The Guitar Sanctuary in service, atmosphere, respect, kindness, professionalism, enjoyment, reverence, understanding and listening!!! I was greeted gently at the door and told to "ask if I needed anything". I nodded and blew off the comment as usual, and took a spin around the place. The moment you walk in you're trying to not look shocked from the spectacular layout and stunning images of the main room. Guitar Sanctuary...this is not a joke! Everything is impressive. I was left alone for 10 minutes before another salesman approached me in the acoustic room. Somehow I was thrust into a meaningful conversation of things I'm looking for and experiences I've had. The salesman this time was a young man named Trey. He never belittled me or made me feel like I was a bother. He listened to me carefully and asked the right questions. Never tried to up-sell me by ignoring what I said I was looking for and showing me something totally different and more expensive just to make a sale. I play high end equipment. Several authentic Gibson Les Paul's (a mix of custom shop, vintage and rare), vintage Flying V, Orange AD140TC amp, and a few vintage amps. I have also acquired a fairly large pedal board with pedals like Strymon and an original Big Muff. I was looking for a plexi-sounding piece of equipment. He asked me what band I was into and would most like to sound like (which is something like Blackberry Smoke at the time. Still is.) Then after 20 minutes of talking he asked me to come out and try some pedals. Amazingly this is when it gets good! As if it could have gotten better! Trey quickly gathers a handful of pedals he thinks I might like. He sits me down in front of their demo area and brings me a custom shop LP! I don't have to move! He hooks up every pedal for me and let's me try it out. He sets the Lonestar Mesa knobs where I tell him to. Then after a minute or so is changing to another pedal and then sets up the amp again. We had a disagreement about whether he should roll down the mids all the way. But he did what I asked. I'm particular. I need to hear the sonic changes and range or gear in real time. He was right; the Lonestar is one of those amps where the mids really do matter, like my Orange. And his willingness to control the amp just like I wanted him too was unheard of. Trey was like my personal guitar tech, and it was awesome. All the pedals sounded stellar! It was an incredible moment in time for me. He finally pulled out a JHS @ pedal which was 100's less than other pedals he showed me. Like an idiot I was like, "Naw, I'm good." And after trying 6-7 pedals I didn't try it. I felt bad for not buying something right then; I hate customers who ask a lot of questions, take up all your time, then leave without buying anything, so I bought some strings and string cleaner (which is awesome by the way). As I made small talk as I was about to leave, Trey said hey do you want to see the venue? He took me to see the concert area. I was just speechless. This guy didn't make the sale and still treated me like a decent human being! I was beyond impressed. I will be returning to purchase the "@+" pedal (which is Andy Timmons sig) because upon researching the pedal when I got home it turns out...that was the pedal I was looking for!!! And I will be going to see concerts there! *First time visitors please be advised this does not look like a music shop from the outside you will feel like your in the wrong place all the way up to the door. It feels like you're walking into a medieval castle of some kind.* **Also I went on a Tuesday early afternoon. If you go during peak hours I doubt they will have the time to spend with you like they did with me. But it's not because they are unwilling. After getting a recommendation and reading the reviews, I took a brand new expensive dobro to GS to have a pickup installed which I had already purchased. I was obviously pretty nervous about having them install it because mistakes were not an option. Mission accomplished! These guys are TERRIFIC. They bust their tails to be totally service oriented. Their ace tech, Daniel, is outstanding. Shane bends over backwards to make sure everything is done to perfection. These guys are musicians as well so they understand the needs of their customers. This is a high end store with tons of stellar gear and with people who know music and gear. I don't write many of these comments.
