Unlike some other neighborhoods that are either up-and-coming or on-the-way-out or simply trying to hard, The Grove feels like one of those Saint Louis neighborhoods that knows what it wants to be and leans into it with confidence. Manchester Avenue seems to carry the energy, a long run of neon and murals and patios. I saw rainbow flags and dive bars and a few spots that seem just a little scruffy around the edges that keep the place from turning into a theme park version of itself. I have been here on foot and by car. By car, the parking was easy enough as long as you're aware of the hydrants and driveways so you don't block either. On food, the blocks are short and the sidewalks are wide enough that you never feel squeezed. The neighborhood feels expressive and welcoming, like it wants you to see the art, feel the music and take in the color. Definitely a fun area with diverse restaurants, shops and nightlife. Parking can be a challenge, so we opted for one of the paid transportation services to attend an evening concert at the Atomic. Economical going, but extremely expensive (about $100.00 for a 7 mile ride) when leaving the area around 11:30 p.m. Just be prepared to pay a premium if you do it. The featured band at Atomic was excellent, but there was no seating provided for the performance. Tickets were nonrefundable, so we did stay for the show. My partner is disabled and unable to stand for 3 hours, so management did allow us to take 2 stools in from the bar. I do enjoy dining at various restaurants in the Grove, but won't go back to the Atomic. Still rate the area 4 stars. read more

This is a District of St Louis where you will find the bars and clubs. It is a happening place on weekends. There are also some decent restaurants and a dispensary in this mile long stretch of town. This is an artsy place, with murals and sculptures all over the place. It seems to be a LBGTQ+ friendly community and is very colorful, with lots of personality. It touts having the largest neighborhood-wide collection of street art in St. Louis. You will also find the Transgender Memorial Garden here, which is roumored to be the first of its kind in the nation. The area dates back to the 1950s and The Grove Community Improvement District (CID) was formed in 2009 to support the businesses, beautify the neighborhood, and improve the safety for its visitors and businesses. Each year, in October, they host GroveFest, a large festival that brings 1000s of city residents to the Grove to celebrate the community. This year Big Freda will be hosting the festival. I visited this neighborhood on a weekday and not much was going on, however, that was ok with me. I still enjoyed the place's vibe and I was able to find some real good food and friendly staff everywhere I went. If you are in St Louis, this area is a must visit. read more

I am so proud of, The Grove. I use to bartend in the area before it was actually called, "The Grove". Yes, I am that old. Back in those days, there were a lot of boarded up building between the bars that were open and setting the trend for the future. Now, it is thriving STL community that supports many popular restaurants, breweries, coffee shops and alternative nightclubs. What makes me proudest, is that the residential community is growing as well. The Grove, is a thriving STL neighborhood that is growing by leaps and bounds. I hope they keep up the development. I smile every time I drive through or visit one of the businesses. It is a neighborhood, that shows the diversity and love of each other in St. Louis, that sometimes gets over-looked. read more

Handle bar offers Russian food during lunch and gatherings such as "That's 80 show" theme during evenings. Taha'a Twisted Tiki and Atomic cowboy have salsa dancing Sundays. The Grove is one of my favorite places in St. Louis to go on the weekend. The businesses in The Grove are killing it. There isn't any other spot in STL where you can have that much fun on one street. It's eclectic and diverse wiht a massive brewery, places to dance, dive bars, cocktail bars, a tiki bar, and soon to have late night doughnuts and alcoholic slushies. Free parking is easy to fine and if not, they have very cheap public lots nearby if you don't feel like walking. To add to the swagger, this strip is tricked out with plenty of street art. From funky to cool, The Grove has mad style. If you have yet to visit you need to pull up the businesses in The Grove and start bookmarking your favorites. It's time for someone to start talking about the Grove a bit more, because this is a great part of town that I personally just discovered a week or two ago. First off, the mix of people is one of acceptance and originality. It's an LGBT friendly community, complete with some of the cities best or at least more well known gay bars. Second-the Grove has a real "artsy" feel to it, with murals and various art work all up and down the stretch of businesses in this area. Third-everyone is so nice around here! As a straight guy, spending time in an area known for its gay bars, I honestly felt at home with the area. By that, I mean everywhere I looked there were people of "character" walking around, no one judging each other, no attitudes, no egos at all. In fact, negativity seems non-existent here. It is truly a breath of fresh air. Part of my experience with the Grove included Grove Fest, which is a street festival with vendors, entertainment, live music, and a great collection of craft and art vendors. The festival brought out a lot of people, and again, no issues, no attitudes, just a lot of people having fun and enjoying the festival. A great vibe all day long! Things to do in the Grove: So far, I've fallen in love with RISE Coffee House, which at this point has only been open for two weeks! The Atomic Cowboy has some of the BEST burgers in St. Louis, so it is definitely worth the stop. In addition to these stops, there are several restaurants, clubs, a tattoo shop, bicycle shop, and much more. My wife is determined to get me into Sweetie Pies, which she discovered from a reality TV show that follows the staff of this little local favorite. For me, The Grove has become a new favorite destination. I highly recommend folks check it out and enjoy the atmosphere, food, and great collection of people to interact with! read more

I have lived in The Grove for 3 years and couldn't have wished for a better experience. The area just keeps getting new and exciting businesses - it's now one of the best regions of St. Louis for a night out. The area is also very safe - I haven't experienced any crime since I got here. read more

We had a 30 min wait ... good, fine .. get a dring and enjoy the beautiful atmosphere. Crabby bar tender, but great drink . Martini was spot on perfect. However, once we got a table things went very wrong. Never asked for another drink, FINALLY got my appetizer after the 3 people that came after us . By the time we received our meals- mine a salad that had no dressing , was not made to order , I had eaten the ap and all the extra olives my martini contained thankfully . 2 hours to have a martini and a salad is rediculous!!! At least have the decency to keep the alcohol coming! My first day off in ages, day drinking ruined. Food terrible all around . Just super disappointed read more

What a fun, quirky area! It has some great restaurants (Layla's burgers are some of the best in the city and Sanctuaria is my favorite place for tapas). I just visited last night ( August 17, 2012 ) and after circling around a couple of times found a "parking space" on Talmage Ave. After a getting a bite to eat at Everest Cafe we returned to find a $25.00 ticket on my car. Turns out this was "permit parking only" street. What kind of a new racket is this? My answer is that it's the kind of racket that will keep me from visiting 'The Grove' again anytime soon-as long as I'm driving. read more
