Decent job with some surprises. One of the three Grout guys showed a lack of professionalism starting with not having the very product they were hired to install. Grout! The other two, brothers Tom & Emanuel were good. No grout for the key bathroom they were hired to re-grout & replace one broken tile. The lead GroutGuy, Peter, left the house to go find grout @ hardware store & 65 minutes later returned with-No Grout! He could not find the right color beige (Haystack) grout. Wow....this is surreal! As it turned out, I told him I had what is a "discontinued " sandstone grout" I preferred he not use. He went ahead & mixed the grout in a bucket right in my entry to my living room, leaving behind a cloud of messy sandstone all over my hardwood floors & furniture. Did he clean up his mess? No!! After almost 6 hours the lead Grout guy, Peter, had completely overlooked key areas in the bathroom to grout & seemed confused about the job. Turns out he's new to the company, to be fair. I had some extra tile, fortunately, to replace a broken piece & don't you know, he cracked that tile; mis-seated the toilet, now @ an angle & when I foolishly paid them for a botched job I called the Franchise owner, Mark, to ask he send over a competent, trained GroutGuy to fix the mess left behind. Emanuel is the man! He's great; sincere; hard-working & deserves your business! read more

It was a horrible experience costing me time and money. The person working on my bathroom plain out told me he had no experience or training to do this. They did not match the grout color. They did a terrible job putting silicone around the floor. The owner has told me many times he would come out and make it right but never has. Avoid. read more

We found TGG in the Contra Costa Marketplace magazine and Mark got back to me promptly. He gave me a quote that was fair and encompassed more than what we wanted to do initially, which I am thankful for! He and Chris did an EXCELLENT job of repairing a broken tile and recaulking areas that were in need of repair. I was very excited to get my bathrooms re-grouted and a door repaired in my bathroom that i had been waiting years for. Mark came and did an estimate. The crew came without Mark and cleaned and grouted the bathrooms. Did an amazing job fixing two tiles, the grout is so so. They did not repair the door frame because Mark said he would do it himself. Mark then went into the hospital and I have been waiting ever since. I paid for the door work - $250 and its nine months later and is still not done. I would gladly take a check for the $250 but prefer that the work be completed. I have texts promising to finish but never done. When I suggested he pay me, he says, "my crew says the work was done" - It was not. I invited him to come look, he refuses.I have sent him pictures. I'm not sure what my recourse is - i have never been in the position before where a company takes my money and doesn't do the work. read more

My patio tile (~17 years old) was cracking in many places and had severe water damage in one corner. Mark and his team came in and helped me with a "re-design" of the area since I did not have enough original tile to replace the original design. It looks amazing and he also replaced whatever he could for broken tiles. His team cleaned the patio so well and then sealed it again so it looks brand new. They were responsive, professional and did excellent work. I recommend them highly. read more

The work: Hired the Grout Guys of the Bay Area to do simple remove/clean/replace of the caulking in shower. Terrible job, they did not use the correct product for cultured marble. Ended up removing what they did ourselves and re-doing it with the correct product, found out that the worker didn't remove all of the old material before slapping the new (wrong) material on top. The worker: We didn't realize it at the time, but the worker that the owner sent out was not an actual employee of the Grout Guys. He requested a payment check made payable directly to him (not the company). Said he needed to cash over the weekend. We should have used better judgment because subsequently the owner tried to say he didn't even do our job. The company: We linked up with this company at the Alameda County Fairgrounds Home and Garden show. We received marketing materials from them with a contractor's license number on it, and the bid we received had the same contractor's license number on it. The owner of the company subsequently tried to say he never did our job, that someone else did it and used his paperwork. This is not true. We absolutely know who we met IN PERSON at the show. Learn from our mistakes: Check contractor's licenses. Don't enter into a contract with anyone that isn't listed as an employee of theirs on that site, and that they have the required worker's compensation coverage. Only pay the worker in a check made payable to the company, not the worker. And oh, if all this fails and you're in the same predicament we are, the Contractor's State Licensing Board is very helpful to consumers to resolve disputes. read more

Can I give no stars? Simply the worst. I have given them several opportunities to repair the mismatched grout they installed (which stands out as obviously not matching what the rest of the grout in the kitchen) and to repalce the caulking around my sink. They replaced the caulking 3 times and each time used the wrong caulk and it has failed. It looks worse then when they started. He also gave me an estimate for cleaning all the tile in the bathroom and they failed to do that as well. Mark will not answer his phone and when we catch him by using another phone number he hangs up. They are simply the most worst company to work with. I hired them to clean and paint the grout in my floor tiles so it would stay cleaner. Well, $800 later, yes the grout was clean, but they had splashed something on both my stainless dishwasher and my stainless fridge that looked like rust and wouldn't come off. When I asked Mark to come fix it, he refused, and told me I could just pick something up at Home Depot to clean it, but couldn't name a specific product. Two years later, the grout is filthy again despite regular cleaning. I'm cleaning it on my hands and knees with a toothbrush and see no trace of any grout paint except a few flakes here and there which are only too happy to depart from the grout. Marcus and Fanny did my job and I have nothing but nice things to say about them. They arrived at 11:30 am and left at 5:30 p.m.. The two gentlemen began cleaning my tile with acid and explaining to me how different chemicals can destroy your grout I found that very informative. While Marcus and Fanny we're cleaning my tile the owner Mark went over to a few different tile places to make sure they found a perfect match for my 9 broken tiles . They conferred with me through each step to make sure I understood the process. They also had different grout colors and Marcus found one that matched the original grout I had . 5/15/2019 - I was looking for someone to come in and redo the grout on my kitchen floor and clean the grout/re-caulk inside and outside my shower in my master bedroom. My realtor recommended these guys. So I said okay - I trusted her advise. I made an appointment with Mark - he came by and I showed him what I wanted. He provided an estimate. He gave me an estimate of $625.00. After a few weeks - I called him to schedule the work. Kitchen tile - Mark did a good job. No problem there. However; the work in my master bedroom shower - "TERRIBLE" with a big "T". He came by on a Wednesday - and he brought his helper to help. Mark did the Kitchen and his helper did the bathroom. When his helper was done - Mark told me not to use the shower until the next day in the evening. Next day - I looked at the shower and I was shocked to see caulking in areas of the shower and outside where it should not have been. The caulk dried and I had to take a knife to scrape off the caulk that has dried. I texted Mark to tell him that the job was unacceptable. I sent him cell phone photos. He told me no photos needed and he will fix. I figured he mentioned no photos needed because he probably did not want me to show anyone his terrible work. He told me he was going to the Napa Home and Garden show on Friday to pitch what he does. When I mentioned to him - when will you be back to fix - and he said - let me see how my day goes tomorrow (Friday) and when he told me that I was livid. You do not tell a customer let me see how my day goes and then let you know. Bad Answer and not Professional at all. So I called my realtor and told her what happen - she was shocked to say the least. She told me that he comes highly recommended. I said to her - Highly Recommended - Who are you referring to - Definitely not Mark and his helper. I told her he informed me he has customers in Napa and Marin county. I said to her - "Really" - I wonder what part of town they live on. Are there any railroad tracks in Marin and Napa. And then I said you got to be joking. I was furious and fit to be tied. After talking to her - she told me she will speak with him to make sure he comes back to fix it. Well he showed up and I had a flash light showing him the "Terrible" work his helper done and get this - He told me - is that what you used to see the work that was done. He was stunned that I would use a flashlight to show him all the imperfections in his helpers work. He proceeded to fix. When he was done - let me say to everyone who reads this - his word of "FIX" - I think he needs to look up the word in the dictionary to get a full understanding of what it means. I am old school where customer service means "Excellence"!!! And when you bring someone to help you - you bring experience people who know what they are doing. If you do not have experience helpers - you do the work!!! People pay you Mark to do the work not some young experience guy who does not have the expertise. I am shocked that he runs a business like this. So the moral of this story - Go with the "PROFESSIONALS" because you will not get that hiring the Grout Guys!!!!! End-of-Story..... read more

Terrible lack of professionalism. They charged $400 to repair broken tile and offered to pick up some tile to match (not perfectly) the install job was terrible and then the owner blamed me. The are BBB rated as a company but not this shoddy franchisee. No wonder he demands payment by check right away so you can't reverse the charge for the shoddy work. I filed with the BBB. read more

Mark came out and gave me a quote for cleaning and resealing my stone countertops in my kitchen, re-grouting and cleaning the tiles in 3 of my bathrooms, this included showers, sinks, counters and floors. Within a week his team of James, John and Hanny were on site; such hard workers, extremely cordial and friendly. Everything came out amazing. Couldn't be happier. They stayed till 6 pm to finish the job, cleaned everything up and the price was exactly what Mark quoted. Highly recommend! read more

I met Mark at a homeshow at the Craneway in Richmond. Got an estimate to clean the grout in my bathroom and replace the seal around the tub and the bathroom floor and a couple other areas in the shower where my grout was cracking. The price was reasonable and Dante came a few days later and did an excellent job with the re-grouting and he was very professional and personable. Overall I am very pleased with the work. I am giving only 4 stars as for both the estimate and the work appointments they arrived more than 40 minutes after the scheduled time with no calls or anything updating me that they were running late. Also the cleaning process did not result in as much of a difference as I was expecting. It is a big improvement from what we had but there are still some darker patches. However the new grout looks great and the colors match perfectly with what was there before. read more

Met Mark at the Craneway Pavilion Home show last year. Had them repair the floor in my shower stall in late October. In order to replace the leaky pan in the shower, only the bottom few rows of wall tiles, and all of the floor tiles and drain were to be removed and replaced according to Mark. He said that the tiles wouldn't match perfectly and I was OK with that. What I wasn't OK with was that when they were removing the old tiles, they cracked other tiles which Mark said were "earthquake cracks," which was not true. As I pointed out to Mark that the cracks weren't there before they started the work, he didn't argue with me and set about to have Dante remove and replace the cracked tiles. In the finished work, the shower wall where they installed the new tiles in the lower part is uneven and it bothers me every time I look at it now. Also after the work was completed and after they had left, I spotted a long continuous crack running from the inside of the shower stall out to the adjacent bathtub, as well as a crack in a tile where they reinstalled the shower stall door frame. These cracks were not there before they did the work. They reinstalled the shower door unevenly as well and it sticks when I am trying to close it (never had that problem before they did the work). Completely unsatisfied with the work and have no idea how they were A rated with the BBB. read more
