a man playing golf in the park

3.5 stars, but I would give it 4 stars if it hadn't been for my experience today. A nice restaurant located within the golf course. It's a good place for casual dining. The space is wide open, with windows all around, allowing lots of natural light to come in. Their menu has lots of choices, with some unique dishes as well. Lemon garlic prawns, steak bites, Montreal smoked meat sandwich, salads, burgers....They use free range poultry and fresh sustainable harvested seafood. Today I dined on the patio which is essentially situated right inside the gold course. Beautiful landscaping and sunny skies proved this location to be an excellent getaway for a lunch. I got the seafood melt with snow crab, baby shrimp, blend of cheeses, on a toasted french loaf. This was very good. Lots of crab and shrimp, baked with cheese. I took a couple of bites and then saw a strand of hair within the crab/shrimp mix! I notified the waiter, and he gladly offered me another one.I opted for a salmon burger instead. It arrived quickly, and so I started eating it, wary of what was inside. As I took another bite, there is was, another hair, within the fish!!!! I let the server know again, he was very sorry. I manged to eat the other half of the burger that didn't have the hair in it. So, the server then offered that our whole table's meal be taken care of, which was a nice gesture. An extra star goes to good customer service. Will I be back? Considering the atmosphere and the prices and the quality of food here (minus the hair), I will be back soon, hopefully with no extra ingredients in my food!

I've been to this place many times as I live in the area. This is a family run Japanese style meal…read morebox restaurant with a cozy and warm ambiance. The menu contains a variety of rice combo dishes that you can select (pork, chicken, beef, fois gras, curry) and a tempura noodle set as well. Occasionally, they also have specials as well. My boyfriend and I ordered the beef set and the tempura noodle set with pork. I love how there are a variety of side dishes that come with the set. This is great for those who like variety and want to have a complete meal with all the food groups. My favourite is definitely the pickled daikon/carrot and the cabbage salad! The food is not too salty and the broth was perfectly seasoned for my palate. My boyfriend also ordered an espresso romano which I had never tried before. The foam on top was surprisingly refreshing with a tart aftertaste of lime. The prices were also very fair with most sets averaging around $19-20 before tax. You order at the counter and pay after you're finished. This is a great place for a quick bite especially if you're in the Ironwood area of Richmond.

All the courses came with their own sides which was great! Salmon course 4.5/5 maybe it was me and I waited too long to eat so my salmon dried out a little bit the flavor was so good that I didn't mind. I normally hate overcooked salmon but I wouldn't say this was overcooked. Beef course 5/5 the egg was beautifully cooked. The beef was plentiful and I love the addition of the ginger. Udon soup 4.5/5 you get your choice of beef, pork or chicken. It comes with a side of tempura. It was good! Hot and fresh. I love that the temprua was not in the soup. Mango soda 3/5. Refreshing yes. But I expected it to be sweeter or have more mango flavour. Also, if you post a photo on social media, you get a free order of prawn tempura which was nice. Overall we had a great experience. Will definitely come back again!

We found street parking, though there appeared to be a few spaces behind the restaurant if you're lucky enough to snag one. The ambiance is bright and lively, but people are definitely here for the food. Service was friendly and efficient, with servers, runners, and other staff constantly refilling water and clearing tables. We started with the scallops and vermicelli. They came with plenty of garlic, but the scallops were somewhat overcooked and tougher than I prefer--about three stars for that dish. The mala hotpot with lingcod was the star of the meal, with a wonderful balance of tongue-numbing spice, deep flavor, fish, and vegetables. The clams were equally delicious, served in a sweet and spicy sauce that was so good I kept stopping the staff from clearing the plate so I could spoon more of it over my white rice. The yu choy with garlic sauce had an excellent crunch and plenty of flavor, making it a great vegetable dish to balance the meal. The Coedo Yuzu beer paired beautifully with the spicy food and had a pleasantly sweet, citrusy taste. An excellent meal overall and absolutely worth the visit. Enjoy!

This is the place to come to have northern Chinese style seafood, especially fish. You choose from hotpot, soup, or steamed fish and get tons of fresh choices. You can choose for the hotpot the soup, weight of fish, veggies, spiciness level, and other adjustments. It is HUGE! We chose the nonspicy soup, with package of tofu skin, lotus root, seaweed knots. The fish is pretty good. Good flavour - though I have to admit I'm not one to try the spicy, but don't worry the soy no spicy flavour is still pretty flavourful. I got some rice to go with it and I definitely recommend something to go otherwise it's pretty soupy. The other dishes were reflective of a very high quality place. - cucumber salad was excellent. I loved the peanuts in there to contrast. - I LOVED the Morel mushroom and tofu. It was amazing. The morel... wow. So succulent. Brown sauce has great balance too. - I really liked the fried rice. It's spam I think and really hits the spot. Not salty, seems just light enough. The service was excellent too. Very friendly and knowledgeable. Highly recommended.

We ordered the soup with the expectation that it would be in some medium-sized bowl that the two of us can easily share. The soup actually was giant and is meant for a family. Luckily, it was absolutely delicious; the pork was super tender, the egg fits in perfectly, and the broth was tasty. Every drop was finished. The braised pork belly was also delicious. Tender and fatty, I wished there was so much more sauce for the rice to soak in. I'm also a super fan of pork floss, so loved its inclusion. The side is also noteworthy. The radish soup was so flavorful yet light, and the tofu was fantastic. Everything we ate was five stars on its own. Only panic was when paying our server said they only accept cash or debit? I only had credit cards and American money, but in the end, she was able to use my credit card. Not sure what that was about.

Not sure why that's not an option. Definitely a missed opportunity for the business imho. Oh... and the kimchi was a bit weird with the fact that it's overly sweet. Overall, good value and good food. The Story Cafe was one the few places that are close to the airport, open early in the morning, and have a high rating. The Story Cafe does live up to the good ratings! The restaurant was spacious with lovely vintage-like decors. The food portion was generous. We had their Fly Me to The Bennies with Salmon, Crab Cake Bennies, Egg In Purgatory, and Duck Confit Hash. All dishes were delicious. I had an oat mocha and to my surprise, there's a really good latte art, which is uncommon in metro Vancouver for drinks with oat milk. The service was normally good, no complaints! Highly recommend The Story Cafe for an early breakfast near the airport.

Boy, they sure dropped the ball with service this time. I've been a regular client over the years,…read moreand have come for weekend brunch, lunch on weekdays, dinners, and even the Thursday live music nights. This is a Saturday at about 3:10pm. Upon entry, we saw only two or three tables occupied. Our waitress took her time coming up to us, and didn't really greet us. She just said they only have the Happy Hour menu as it was after 3pm. We never had Happy Hour before, but based on our past experiences, we were quite sure the smaller menu will be fine. I told her there are 4 of us, and she had to look around the restaurant, and then a looooong gaze at her tablet showing the tables. She pointed to a table towards the wall with the record player. We approached the table, then my wife wanted to sit at the end table behind ours. We asked the waitress, and she said it was reserved! OK, fine. We'll settle into our first table. We found it odd as reservations are not allowed during brunch and happy hour until 5pm. We were there shortly after 3pm. She then brought us menus, but only cared to bring two, when she knows there are four of us. Not a word, and just walked away. I turned towards her but she was already walking away. By this time, I didn't bother anymore. I just walked over myself and grabbed the menu. Then she didn't serve us anymore. Another Asian young man then came with the water bottle. A bit more eye contact this (yay) but still no smile. Just asked us what to drink. Took order and stepped away. We then ordered our dishes, and the food came promptly, except for the flat bread, which came more towards the end when other items are nearly finished. All good, but all of us just felt a whole different vibe this time, all having been here before. Sure enough, the table behind was still unoccupied by the time we left an hour later. Hmm. We were actually there to celebrate my birthday but we weren't really in the mood after not one but two servers seem to need more training. Oh, and heads up. When you call, you'll be talking to AI, not a human being! This should be a 1 star but the good food saved the day.

However, I know why this restaurant continues to be booked and busy. I have been various times before but this was the first time in the last few years. I would describe this restaurant as western fine dining for a Chinese palate. You'll find some classic dishes but less heavy on the salt and grease, perfect for myself and the party I was dining with. I ordered the 5 course meal which was a fantastic deal for $65. The bread service at the start is so warm and yummy - don't skip out on it! The pesto sauce tiger prawns weren't overly pesto forward and had a strong presence of garlic - perfect for me! I loved the chowder as I especially like corn. The portion was also perfect considering I had many courses coming afterwards. Next, came the crab cake, which was generously filled with crab and paired with delicious house made butter. For each dish, I found the garnishes pleasing as well (especially the strawberry which was so sweet and ripe!). I think the best deal of the night was the steak. It was not too salty and cooked perfectly to a medium-rare. I managed to have leftovers as well since the portions were overwhelmingly good. Finally, the star of the night was definitely the chocolate soufflé for me. I loved the rich bitterness of the chocolate paired with ice cream on the side. I don't think this place is the best representation for fine dining. After all, they do not serve any alcohol. However, I think it is a great deal and accommodating to my taste buds. If I do not wish to drive out for fancy food, I know I can rely on the food at Shoestring café. As it is a family run business, there is only one person managing the front and I think they do a pretty good job at juggling all the duties of a host, server, and table busser! I would love to return soon.

Steamed mussels and soufflé were so addictive and heavenly. The mussels were savoury and buttery and the soufflé was airy with the perfect amount of sweetness. They were very good! Hits and misses for the mains. While the pasta and sauce were great, we wish the seafood were panfried or something to give it a bit more texture. The duck was well done but not tough (we generally like medium rare) though we were confused by why the skin was served down as crispy skin is always a plus for duck breasts. I'm not a fan of mashed potatoes but theirs was not overly heavy and buttery, which I really appreciated and enjoyed. This reminds me of Asian western food but they were tasty and the ambience was cozy - a local neighbourhood spot.
