It was absolutely outstanding! Every ingredient felt incredibly fresh and vibrant. The rich flavors of the grilled tempeh and the perfect tang of the sauerkraut paired beautifully with the hearty, fresh-baked rye. The service was also wonderful and incredibly thoughtful--they noticed we were sharing and kindly split the sandwich into two separate plates for us before bringing it out, which we truly appreciated. The only downside was the iced tea, which unfortunately tasted quite watered down and lacked flavor. Aside from that, it's a fantastic spot. If you're exploring the historic streets of Astoria and looking for high-quality, conscious food, this place is definitely worth a visit!

Their pastry section has so many options that it was hard to choose (BUT I AM ALWAYS UP FOR THE TASK!)... I landed on the cinnamon and cardamom morning bun. It was more dense than I was expecting, which isn't a bad thing at all, just an observation. It was crispy on the outside with a soft and sweet inside; it was so delicious. The outside was almost crystallised with the cinnamon and cardamom (So. Dang. Good). We got an americano and a chai tea with almond milk. The coffee was fine but the chai wasn't my favorite. Okay quality but it was more a chai tea with milk than a chai latte that I was thinking it would be. You can also buy something from the "pay it forward" menu so that all members of the community can access this yummy cafe, regardless of ability to pay. Loved seeing that! There is a large breakfast menu, too, in addition to the pastries... they had breakfast tacos, sandwiches, and more! They also sell bagels and bread loafs.

We ordered the fried oysters and the breading was light and crispy. Excellent. The smoked salmon boxty was wonderful. The loaded fries could use a wee bit of improvement. Too strong of a garlic presence. Service was a tiny bit slow but understandable for a holiday weekend. This place is very special!

We always enjoy our time here as we just enjoy this historic property so much, from the lovely stain glassed parlor which is inviting you to relax with shuffleboard games or pool. The pub is cozy seats at tables, the bar as well as a outdoor patio seating out in the hotel courtyard. Every time we've stopped in, we've had impeccable service. It's definitely a must stop when in Long Beach area! Not only are the cocktails expertly crafted, they offer a monthly cocktail for cause donations, the recent blush and burn, strawberry - jalapeño infused tequila mixed cocktail was delicious and topped off with a freeze dried strawberry. They have a couple Mezcal cocktails that were delicious the 'Enigma' and 'smoking room' offerings are standouts. You must try a craft cocktail when you're at the pub. They also seem to have our favorite North Jetty or Fort George beers on tap, so something for everyone. Happy Hour times offered as well. Cheers!

The Grand Dame of the Columbia River Smokery, Astoria, Ore…read more - There are cathedrals of salt, smoke, and time, and then there is Josephson's Smokehouse, a cedar-shingled shrine on the edge of the Pacific Northwest where briny fog meets hardwood ember. Here, the art of curing is not a craft but a calling. Lunch is a liturgy. The clam chowder arrives like a maritime memory-velvety, studded with tender-cheeked clams, each spoonful a foghorn in a bowl. The salmon burger, grilled to a rosy medium, defies the dry, crumbly fates of lesser patties; it is juicy, lush, and dressed with a tartar that brightens like a lighthouse flash. But the true epiphany? The lox on a bagel--silk-smooth, brined with the precision of a jeweler, draped over cream cheese that yields like fresh snow. It is not merely eaten; it is contemplated. We depart with coolers stuffed with their cold-smoked Sockeye salmon-amber-gold, peppery, almost buttery in its melt-destined for Manhattan bagels and late-night toasts. It travels like treasure. Yet Josephson's soul isn't found in the smokehouse alone-it lives in the warm, unhurried grace of its counter staff, each one wonderfully kind. Against the coldness of algorithms, this is hospitality as rebellion. Five stars? Insufficient. This is a constellation.

It was a good decision. Note for fellow travelers: their menu is small. They are a smokehouse that oh by the way has a small dining area as well, which they call the Chowder House. Small can be beautiful. Specialization has its benefits. We ordered the chowder and smoked salmon on rye. First, the chowder. It's the real deal, slightly thinner than some, but not too thin, and boy howdy delicious. Seriously, its some of the best. I would say it's up there with Gracie's Sea Hag in Depoe Bay. It does not skimp on the clams, and is chunky throughout. The smoked salmon on rye exchanges a bagel for rye toast, but keeps the rest of the traditional deli staple intact. There is cream cheese, capers, red onion, and, of course, the salmon. (I don't know where smoked raw salmon ends and nova lox begins. They seem to be the same.) This is where we begin to understand those benefits of specialization. It was simply the best I've had. It was well smoked and tasted fabulous with the rye. If you have passed this place by for years as well, stop it, and stop by. It's good stuff. They also ship their smoked salmon.
