Burning the frame was super affordable, they also were able to sell me some printing ink, and gave me a bunch of high quality paper for no cost! Super helpful service and great local screen printing. People here are really nice and everything I've had them print, from acetates to screens to shirts has turned out super clean. We took the intro tshirt screen print class and it was awesome! Laurie started the class with a quick run down on how our images would be transferred over to the screens and then Jon Jon taught us how to print our images onto our articles of clothing. The step by step process was so informative and thorough. In addition to the class, the store itself was great...with unique art of all types by Bay Area artists on sale. I cannot recommend this place enough. I had a small custom order of prints on sweatshirts and they worked with me to make the project amazing, even though it wasn't a huge job! I was so impressed w their communication, their work, and the finished product. They were fast and efficient and patient through the process. Jon Jon is an exceptional teacher who focuses on technique and truly makes screen printing accessible for anyone at any skill level. Laurie and Jon Jon are awesome! Very friendly and knowledgable. I go here to silk screen normally for there open studio Tues / Thur evenings (5-10pm). I already knew how to silk screen but they helped me set up the screens and print. Ive made many shirts here and thanks to the grease diner they came out great! My only experience with screen printing was in 2004 when my friends and I collaborated on a clothing line and sold our screen printed t-shirts at an outdoor fair in Oakland, California. Since then, I've had an inkling to screen print again. With a quick search on the internet, I found The Grease Diner -- they offer Saturday classes either with a group or one-on-one. The Saturday class worked out perfectly for my schedule and I chose to do the group class because of the price. Luckily, the Saturday I was scheduled for was a day where I was the only person taking the class! I was able to work closely with the owner, jOn jOn, and he was a great instructor. I went into class with curiosity in toe and jOn jOn happily answered all of my questions, he even went into great detail about the screen printing process. The studio space was spacious and they were well equipped with everything that you may need. I wanted to make my own tote bags so I cut out my fabric pieces and brought 12 of them in to class. He had muslin rolled up against the wall and he gave me 12 extra pieces. All in all, I left with 24 screen printed pieces of fabric! I can make more tote bags than anticipated! I would recommend The Grease Diner to anyone that is looking for a friendly, hands-on experience that will leave you feeling like you connected with your community. read more

I love to make things, and I always wanted to learn how to screenprint. "jOnjOn" is unreasonably slow, unresponsive and when I expressed, politely, frustration because it took 5 wks for him to even send us an estimate for a very basic order, he hung up on me without response. Because he couldn't call back when he emailed us he would call that day, never responding to email promptly, he caused us to miss our deadlines and cost us significantly financially. He has overcharged us by a huge margin, then was quite rude when we asked for the breakdown. He gave us quotes on items we did not request, trying to price gouge us and due to his unresponsive business practice, has forced us to pay for rush printing from another printer. We wanted to go with someone local and radical, and that was a massive mistake. I STRONGLY suggest not going to Grease Diner, and choosing another pinter who will actually respond, not try to rip you off, and who responds to requests of what is going on with polite business practices and solutions. read more
