Kind of hit or miss, but I have been going there since the 80s, when I found a pair of chanel shoes for a few dollars, so I'm kind of hooked. I usually find something great. Over the years, best finds have been: a beautiful, sturdy turquoise blue vintage room fan that works great; 2 slightly damaged new urban outfitters funky lawn chairs (totally fixable, marked from $50 each to $10 each); a ladies 2-pc dress, circa 1895-perfect condition; beautiful hand-knit wool granny sweaters, various great vintage wool blankets... and they have a good selection of books and basic clothing. I bought a Brooks Brothers jacket, a J Crew top, several Ann Taylor tops and several Banana Republic sweaters all for 36.00. I love to support Goodwill as they have programs for the disabled. Wow. THE go-to place for thrift store-fueled projects. Don't be fooled, this isn't your standard departmental goodwill store. Be prepared to dig, and have a bottle of hand sanitizer ready. This is the stuff that comes in before it is organized and put in the store--some of it may be things they don't expect will sell in the store. Your efforts are rewarded with dirt cheap prices, and there are often decent fabrics and books in the mix. read more

I'm shopping for a new "business casual" wardrobe that, when I accepted this job, I thought included jeans and polo shirts. Unfortunately, fancier pants and shirts are the norm, so I ended up here. A surprisingly large selection of men's clothing is located at the very front of the store. Plenty of shirts, but not many in the smaller sizes. Have the hipsters beat me to this one? I found this Goodwill thoroughly depressing. The clothes are all crammed on the rack so tight you have no hope of really looking at anything. The building is really ugly. Many of the clothes I looked at were either really worn or stained. Even the fact that this is a huge Goodwill store will not bring me back here again. read more

This is the best Goodwill I've ever been to; well strictly for housewares and furniture. I didn't look at the clothes at all. I found 2 cool wall hangings, a weird but cool painting of a blue man being kissed on the cheek by an alien, and a table lamp that's made of wrought iron and cedar. Awesome. I had the misfortune to work there for eight months. The "donations" are very poorly sorted and the quality of the stuff sold to people is horrible (dirty, broken, often overpriced). Prices are not consistent and people could easily steal because there is basically no security. The managers, except for few, and store directors are horrible people: they hire you with the promise that you can move further but the truth is that if you are white, no matter how good you are or how hard you work, you will never advance, because their only concern, on the wave of all this social justice stuff, is only the "diversity". They purposely set me up, offering me two different promotions and then telling me that they could give me neither because "me accepting to be interviewed for both the positions showed a lack of loyalty to the cause". Truth is that by babying people of color the way they do, they really treat them as less. * FORGOT TO MENTION: When I got hired, a woman asked me "ARE YOU ACTUALLY ABLE TO SPEAK AND READ ACTUAL AMERICAN ENGLISH?" - I noticed that lately this "Actual" word looks to be in vogue. This location has a regular Goodwill store as well as a separate outlet store. I will start with a review of the Goodwill store. It's gigantic as other reviewers have said. The racks are JAMMED tight so your arms will get tired digging through. Things are color coded as well as by item (dresses, jeans, tees, sweaters). No size sorting. It is very helpful to know your size in common brands. You will find Gap, Ann Taylor, cool vintage etc etc. There isn't a huge selection of household goods but there are some. Shoe selection is a hot mess. Rarely will you find both shoes of a pair together. Come here if you are willing to dig a bit to find some great clothing treasures. Regular thrift store prices. NOW on to the outlet! It's a treasure trove! Are you addicted to the hunt of a thrift store? Are you willing to sacrifice a bit to save even more money? This is for you. There are just giant bins lined up with no sorting of any kind. All clothing is $1.75, accessories are .50, coats are a couple bucks. NO MATTER WHAT!!!! For me, this is heaven. I find really wonderful things in my size (XS) thanks to all the South End richies in the area. They also have household things and LOTS of books. Yeah it's a little dirty- SO WHAT! I don't typically write reviews about thrift shops, but this place is seriously HEAVEN ON EARTH. If you are looking to reinvent your wardrobe, THIS is the place to go for dirt cheap, but quality pieces! I happened to yelp "thrift shops" while I was on a mini-vacation in Boston and this was the first business that popped up. Initially, I was intrigued by the high ratings and I wanted to see what all the hype was about. I've been to alot of Goodwills in my area and honestly, I've learned to not have high expectations and to not expect to find anything amazing, but this Goodwill is a definite gamechanger! When you first walk in, you'll see racks upon racks of clothes, all neatly hanged and color-coordinated. They also have a section in the front with all of their "newer" and "better-quality" items, so that was the first place I went to look. And I immediately found two pairs of True Religion jeans, in my size and for less than ten bucks! What a steal! :D There's also a good mix of J Crew, Banana Republic, Lucky Brand, Urban Outfitters, Gap, etc items, but you really have to be patient to find the hidden gems. I think I spent about 4 hours there (the longest I've spent in a store!) and I found and bought items from brands such as True Religions (as mentioned above!), Zara, Urban Outfitters, Madewell, Juicy Couture (typical, but their stuff is oh so comfy!) and a bunch of other good-quality brands. I left with a total of 14 items, for a quarter of what I would normally pay for a typical shopping excursion. And let me tell you, I have never been happier about each and every single item that I got! This Goodwill really has a good selection of trendy clothes, some still with the tags still on! It seriously doesn't get any better than that! :D If you are in the area, I would highly, highly recommend you check this place out. But be warned, there are alot of clothes to sift through, so you really have to be patient. But if you put in the work, you're sure to find something you like! Huge place, with women's, kid's and men's clothes color sorted- also sorted by type i.e jeans, trousers, outerwear, dresses. Books and home goods are in the back, shoes and accessories in the front. Prices are reasonably cheap, but I notice they have gone up over the years. The usual mall names: Gap, Banana Republic, Tahari, HM, Free People, Talbots, Eileen Fisher, Ann Taylor, Aeropostale, AbFitch, J. Crew, Old Navy, Forever 21, Express, Wet Seal, Charlotte Russe, Victoria's Secret, Guess, Zara....you may find Armani, TopShop, Saks, Nordstrom, Anthropologie, Neiman Marcus etc, as well. Many smaller "catalog" names; some from QVC/HSN. Sizes for women tend to be small or medium for sweaters and tops. I have found Prada here....a gorgeous wispy size two camisole top. Yum! I am not really into shoes, but others have found good stuff ...just don't get aggressive and btw keep an eye on your shopping cart. , If you do not, yes- other customers will go through it- the staff often leaves carts of items on the floor that they are sorting through to put on the racks. They are not theives, they just assume the stuff is available if you aren't holding onto it. As for handbags, I have been there when a bin of unsorted bags came onto the floor and saw a Zara shopper in pale creamy taupe patent, new with tags. Also a Vuitton drawstring bag...had all the correct markings, not sure if it was the real thing. My beef is with the management. They have a section in front where the signage says the merchandise is "better quality". I don't think they make any effort at all to tell the staff to put the high end designer names in that section because what's there is the same as what's on the other racks. I did a little informal merchandising for them while there- I found Kenar and Kookai, a perfect, basically new-as in flawless- Alfani butter leather blazer in pale pistachio green and some other names, and put them there. Having worked in fashion I get annoyed about stuff like that, and I felt the women who shop there would be ecstatic to not have to sort through the dreck for the good stuff. Neurotic? possibly. One more thing, for God's sake, leave your "omg, what am I doing in Goodwill?????!!!!" attitude at home. It stinks to high heaven, and impresses/intimidates no one. This review is of my phone call to them only. I called to ask if they had board games, just board games. I do not have an accent. I grew up in Massachusetts. I say 'board games' pretty clearly. The woman asked me to repeat 3 times before saying, "I don't know what you're saying," and passing me off to someone else who had an equally hard time understanding my question. I eventually had to say, "Like monopoly, twister...board games," to which I received an, 'Oooooooo no." It shouldn't be that difficult to ask if they carry board games. read more

Okay, so it's huge, everything is pretty neat, and clean. And maybe I've just not gone to enough thrift stores in the area to really appreciate what a great place this was (this was my first place in boston)... but I have to say I was less then impressed. I went looking for kids stuff, baby items. It was all washed, but most 90% of it (at least this is what it seemed like on this particulary day) was stained. Baby puke yellow stains on collars, baby puke on the front, mashed peas stained on the sleeves... whatever it all was, I am not going to buy a used baby item that has big stains on it! I didn't look through the women's ABSOLUTELY INSANELY HUGE area of clothing, since I was so disappointed and on a time crunch. This rating is for their children's baby section. Maybe if you went often enough you'd find the occasional item. But my experience stunk. read more

This Goodwill is trashy and overstaffed with people who are completely unhelpful: 1. no one knew who had the key to the fitting room; 2. I was RAMMED several times with restocking carts. My cart was rammed at least 3 times as well. 3. The cashier would not tell me the prices as he was ringing up my items - it was not his job. So, I was charged for a dress instead of a shirt. The floor is littered with hangers, clothes, and filth - piles of dirt, swept but not picked up, used baby diapers. Everything is organized by color. Really? How 1978. I mean, if I want a shirt, I don't need it to fit if it is yellow, right? The most horrifying thing is that this is next to their Job Center. Yikes! I am a thrifter who has been to over 1k of Goodwill stores (you read that right one thousand different stores), and this is the worst. If you manage this store PLEASE, PLEASE fix these problems. There were plenty of staff members flirting with each other while ignoring customers with questions to do a better job of cleanliness. And, unlike what the ASSISTANT MANAGER believes, the same stock organized by size, then color would not take up more room. It would increase the turnover of stock (look at the numbers). Awesome! This place will take a lot of patience, but it is well worth it. I love scavenging through clothes, and you can finally actually FLING clothes all over the place here. :D It's quite the experience. I scored a beautiful Ann Taylor jacket and a embroidered velvet jacket along with a lot of other things (for my momma with me) for only 6.5$. GULP! I need to get more digging in. If you have lots of time to spend in order to find a jewel piece of secondhand stuff, you definitely should go to this place. The location itself is not that easily accessible, but it's worth it. i've found amazing eighties pumps here as well as designer stuff like a hot yellow linen pleated christian dior skirt. they also have really cool electronic sections...i've seen record players as well as kick ass coffee makers here as well. there's also a huge book section and i can just go on. but seriously, there's so much stuff here (cause it's not in a popular part of town) and so you'll find something cool for sure. read more

I thought all thrift stores in the city were crap until I stumbled upon this gem. It's insanely huge!!! I love this location for their clothing, record collection, and, if I am lucky, yarn. I go here almost once a week and leave with a bundle of things that I will actually use and wear! Plus, this has the distinct pleasure of being the only public place where I lost my shit and started yelling at a stranger that kept me waiting in line for 25 minutes while she decided exactly what she wanted. I feel horrible for the people that work there because of some of the crazies they deal with all day, so I make sure I am especially nice and chatty when I get rung up. It's my first thrift shop in the Boston area. It's a big place with 3 back to back rows of unorganized woman's shoes, large section of color coordinated women's tops/coats, equally large section for women's bottoms/jeans, and a small section for men's clothing. Decently priced. Bought 2 shorts for $4.95 a piece. Few brand names among the shorts, banana republic, j crew, etc, so I'll say they are of good quality. 1 pastel yellow, long sleeve, thin, button up from forever 21 for also $4.95. Can't wait to pair it with my black shorts/ mint green mini skirt/waist high shorts :D For the big finale, my bf found a black trench coat just the right length for my 4 ft 9 3/4 self! This Goodwill = if any Saavers had thrown up and also stopped labeling by size, sanitizing the space, etc. Yet: these prices simply cannot be beat (skirts for 4$ each? ZOMG), and there are quite many gems in the ruins - just be prepared for an outpouring, for it will be sure to overwhelm. read more

You have to be seriously dedicated to rifling through each individual item in a warehouse-sized room full of stuff, but it can be worth it when you find that gem that you can't pass up. Clothing is arranged by color, which makes it easier. It definitely has that indefinable thrift store smell which can be a bit off-putting. Not a review for the store itself, but for the drop-off donation service at the 1010 Harrison location. I love it because it's super easy. You go, drive through the parking lot to get to the donation trailer, hand your things over the man standing in the doorway, pick up your tax receipt, and off you go. As simple as that. Ask any of the staff, I live here. I'm on call for when they get danish modern furniture in and if you're birthday is coming up, expect a handpicked vintage item courtesy of goodwill. It can admit-ably be hit or miss, sometimes I find not a thing but I've also walked away with a perfect besty johnson dress, a pair of impeccable kate spade pumps and a gorgeous vintage coach bag. Beyond designer duds I've also found simple shoes and clothes in good condition and sometimes they get donations of unsold merchandise from the likes of urban outfitters and forever21, joy! The furniture is sometimes good though the selection is small but I did pick up my boyfriends birthday present here, a working condition mid 50's GE record cabinet. I'm almost afraid to tell you about my little vintage secret next door, their "outlet store" which is a terrifying array of bins full of mismatched shoes and clothes but where I have occasionally found some of my most treasured vintage boots at a scant $2. I must warn you, the staff is a bit standoffish at first but once you get to know them they really are very warm and helpful and always greet me with a smile. Yes, it is a Goodwill store and yes it is the very best that I've been in! Talbots, Jos. Banks, Jones New York, J. Jill,, LL Bean, Ralph Lauren, Eddie Bauer, REI, Woolrich, Pendleton, I could keep on goting! All in like new condtion! Some new with the tags still on them. About $600.00 worth of clothes for $106.00!! Once you've washed it once, it becomes "used" so what's the differnce. Is there junk there? Of course, it's a Goodwill store, get over it! This place can be amazing. It can also be awful. Case in point: today I spent 2 hours picking through racks. I had 5$ barely worn balenciaga flats (sigh) in my basket hidden under a few shirts and pairs of jeans. I tried to go down a skinny aisle w/ my cart and it was too tight. I left the cart at the end of a row and pulled out a shirt I was eyeing in the aisle...it took me 30 seconds tops and my cart was gone. I spent the next ten minutes peeking into everyones cart around the store like a loon and asked several employees if a cart was in the way of things where it would be placed. The shoes and purses are pretty battered and disgusting. I have gone in here a few times and found mostly nasty pocketbooks and bags. I once found a decent pair, but only once. They also do not have a great selection of household items such as blenders, toasters, stuff like that, which other thrift shops usually have piles of. You would be lucky to find one or two of what you need, and you need to grab it while it is there. The book selection is hit or miss, but the clothing is pretty cool. Large selection. I would closely examine stuff for damages, and try on if you can because it can be unflattering, hence why it was donated. The prices are average for second hand stuff. There are some vulture type people who arrive in the morning and grab out of the rolling carts before merchandise hits the floor, hence the reason for crappy handbag selection. read more
