Poor portion size, and way way too expensive. £15 for a small steak pie and chip. Avoid. Much much nicer along the road.

The Prestwick Pioneer is blazing a trail when it comes to decent pub food in Prestwick…read more Wetherspoons could easily hold this place up as a flagship venue where the focus is definitely on the eating. If you know the Wetherspoons brand you'll know that they pride themselves on well kept cask ales, ciders and other branded alcoholic beverages at unbelievably low prices. Continental cafe-bar in style, the decor is definitely a step upmarket for the brand. Our visit coincided with one of the hottest days of summer but the efficient air conditioning and the floor to ceiling opening windows made it a comfortable place to chill out and eat lunch. I had a vegetarian curry with coconut cream, two papadums, naan bread, mango chutney AND a pint of west country cider for the princely sum of £6.99. What a bargain. I'll definitely check out curry club Thursdays next time I'm in Prestwick. Big thumbs up too for a menu that helps those with dietary requirements choose what to eat, and also makes sure that there is plenty of choice. Stunning value, and an exceptional Wetherspoons. Follow the crowd! PS they have won awards for the loos, and I can see why. They aren't just clean, they are pretty groovy too.

I really thought there wasn't a single free table but at last I spotted one a table for two, just what we needed! As it was so crowded I thought there would be a long wait for food but not so. In fact we were amazed at how quickly it arrived. Everything was, as usual in this Wetherspoon chain, quite delicious and very good value for money. In our book that's a great combination! The bar staff were helpful and pleasant. We won't hesitate to call in there again when we're in Prestwick. The pub opened only this year and is named after David McIntyre, one of Scotland's leading aviation pioneers. He and the Marquis of Clydesdale established a flying school at Prestwick in 1933, which became an important training centre for RAF pilots in the second world war. McIntyre was also involved in the development of Prestwick into an international airport. There are many photos and old advertisements relating to the history of the area, including Woolworths, whose store used to be in this location.
