Weekends There is always some form of entertainment on from quiz nights to karaoke and even for a quiz night love been here and there only being two in the bar but l recon this is more of a sports bar with all the unusual items plastered on the walls and ceilings mainly from golf. Drinks Aren't always the same here they change the selection quite often but I'm not sure if that's a good thing, they used to have west on tap but then discontinued soon after. This has to be one of the better bars in the area you can have a few drinks here and not have any hassle.

I myself left the Met Police and moved back to Troon when she was widowed in 2016. In 2018 I attended the venue with my fiancée to be greeted by Mr James Welsh with whom I thought I had an excellent relationship. However, on this occasion he was very sarcastic to us , suggesting we were strangers because we had not been in for a wee while. "Hi, I'm James and I'm pleased to be able to serve you tonight etc" There was a bloke sat at the bar who was clearly worse for wear and he started being rude to us and asked me to step outside!!! I refused to do so but this guy Raymond, was determined to spoil our evening. I stepped out and told him to stop being ridiculous and there was no reason for him to do what he was doing. Upon sorting that out without any trouble, James told me and Venetia not to bother coming back!!! We had done nothing wrong I emphasise. It just appeared to both of us James was annoyed with us as we lived at the top of Welbeck Crescent which is not adjacent to McKays by any means. We of course complied with the request. Having met James frequently in Troon since, he has been nothing but very pleasant to us . I assumed all of this nastiness of that evening was well done and forgotten about! I attended the pub about 2 weeks ago after having no issues when in with Venetia 2 days before. The barmaid refused to serve me and , in front of all the guests brusquely dismissed me like a common criminal. I contacted Greene King who assured me my attempts to help smooth out which was a very minor problem 6 years ago, would be resolved and the current management would be pleased to discuss the situation with me . Apparently, Venetia is welcome but not me which appears to be rather discriminatory as well. She was every bit as involved in the unsavoury incident as me?? Anyway, I'm simply trying to resolve a misunderstanding. There is absolutely nothing to be concerned about, as I'm a god fearing Christian man who simply wants a quiet pint now and again as my mother is wheelchair bound now and loves the garden there. But they have a reasonable selection of other ales and if I lived in Troon I could see this becoming a popular haunt. Both time I've visited here it has been early in the evening and it's been pretty quiet, allowing us to have a conversation. The main pub isn't huge, but the space is split into a few different areas to inhabit so it's easy to find a quiet corner, and there's no loud music to inhibit conversation. The barkeep was friendly and chatty and remembered me from my previous visit a few weeks previously, which was nice. Thumbs up from me.

Smaller than you get in the USA but packed a punch flavour wise. Blue cheese dip was also great. They also do daily flavours and have the classic flavours on the menu, ie garlic parm etc. They also have a wing Wednesday where you get a kilo of wings for £10. To give you an idea of price me and the bf had a 3 course meal plus 2 drinks each and the bill came to around £75 but worth every penny!. The dining area stays open till late and the bar is open to 1:30am. They make some stunning cocktails and from £3 - £5 they are sometimes better value than a normal drink. The mixed tempura is awesome and the braised steak with haggis is to die for. (Tara one of the managers is ace). We've tried the competition and frankly the Drift has the best beer and Scotch selection, food, and atmosphere. Inside it's a restaurant, outside it's a country pub with lots of well-spaced outdoor seating. It has the basics food-wise down pat. Huge fish and chips and excellent mussels - in the latter case just the right size between tasty and chewy. A great wine and beer selection and excellent service. It's in the lovely town of Lamlash and really easy to find. We parked along the road and then walked down as we were there quite early and it didn't open til midday. There's a beautiful view over the water to Holy Isle and you can get a ferry over if you're so inclined - we decided to just appreciate it from afar. The pub itself is kind of nautical/rugby themed and really cosy inside - there's a fireplace and lots of seating as well as some couches and a kids area. I ordered a bowl of Cullen Skink (Scottish haddock soup) as well as the Angler's Platter for one (Creeler's hot and cold smoked salmon, seafood and soft cheese mousse, fishcake and homemade bread). The soup was just delicious - I don't eat Cullen Skink enough and when I have one as good as this, I wonder why - thick, jam packed with fish and really tasty. I loved the platter too - the fish cake was the highlight for sure, but everything on it was so tasty and I loved how local it all was. Staff were friendly and welcoming, and we enjoyed grazing here for a while. They have a great booze selection but as I was driving I didn't have any - next time we visit I would definitely see about getting the bus or a taxi here from Brodick so we could get stuck into the gin!
