Beautiful view of the water and of the planes descending over the water to land at the nearby airport. As we've discovered while on holiday here, the overall quality of food (ingredients, preparation, cooking and presentation) in New Zealand is above par! You can see and taste the freshness in everything you eat. The food at Frankton Arm Tavern is no exception. We had the cheesy bacon fries, chicken wings, and kids mac and cheese (of course). EVERYTHING was delicious - especially the wings. They were perfectly cooked with a thick, sticky, sweet, bbq sauce on top (a little tang would have been nice, but they were delicious none the less). The girls, unfortunately, didn't like the mac and cheese. Unfortunately (for them) the cheese wasn't cheddar (or processed cheddar), maybe edam instead, and it was flavored with herbs and cumin. I, on the other hand, LOVED IT! We've also found the service everywhere in NZ to be exceptionally welcoming, pleasant and helpful. The gentlemen at the bar here were all of the above. Frankton Arm Tavern is a MUST when you're in Queenstown! Note: DO NOT confuse with the Frankton Ale House which is a block or so away and is a Chinese restaurant. We mistakenly walked into the Frankton Ale House and were greeted with stares from the Chinese patrons (you know, the "wtf are you doing here?" face) and pointedly ignored by the Chinese staff. Felt just like home. Ha.

Really wanted a shepherd's pie but I didn't see it on the menu. The crust was perfectly cooked. Flaky and delicious. I loved their gravy on top. I thought the meat on the inside was just ok. It was flavorful but not the best pie I've had in NZ (which was at a place on Athol on the way down to Te Anau btw). I'm an American so take that with a grain of salt. Don't get me wrong it was good, just not great. Oh and I loved the slice of soda bread they gave you. First time trying that! Had a few NZ IPA's as well which were FANTASTIC. I don't remember the name. Anyway, everyone was friendly. I thought the prices were kind of high for a pie & a bit of mash--but perhaps that's just the tourist tax in Queenstown. Would 100% come back but I think I would try the Irish stew instead.

First night in queenstown and was looking for some food and drinks for our jet lagged selves…read more Smiths did not disappoint. My partner had the lamb burger, we shared the poutine, and I had the venison pot pie. Portion sizes are huge so I had to take away some of my pot pie and some leftover poutine in a box. Taste wise, my partner enjoyed his burger, we both loved the poutine, and the venison pot pie was good but a little too sweet for my liking. The poutine, while used mozzarella instead of cheese curds, was our favorite and would just come here to order a few orders of that. We also got a flight to share to try some local brews including 3 sours, 1 ginger beer, 1 cider, and 1 lemonade. They were all good and I especially liked the ginger beer on the menu. The alcoholic lemonade was also quite nice and better than any alcoholic lemonades I've had in the states.

A day latter and the Smith Burger is everything I'm looking for, It was a perfect medium rare, I didn't ask for - but nonetheless so good, a great combination of sauces and garnishes made this one of the super burgers I've eaten. A fantastic beer selection as well.

The food is very authentic as everyone that works there is Irish. It is a solid spot with a great atmosphere and a welcoming vibe. It has that classic Irish pub feel--lively, cozy, and perfect for grabbing a drink after a long day of exploring the town. The food is hearty and satisfying, with pub staples done well. The Guinness beef stew is amazing! The drinks selection is strong, especially if you're in the mood for a good pint of Guinness or Kilkenny, and the bartenders keep things moving even when it gets busy. It's a popular place, so there's usually good energy and a fun crowd. Service can be hit or miss depending on how packed it is, which is really the only thing holding it back from a full five stars. That said, it's still a reliable go-to in Queenstown if you want a laid-back spot to eat, drink, and soak in the local scene. After you're done you can walk by one of the most beautiful lakes in the world and burn off the calories.
