Fun. Busy. Great people Watching. Get there early to grab a seat. We were seated downstairs. No where near as cute as main room. But food was delicious. We both had the rabbit. Yummy. Worth it. Try it.

The meal was creative, inspired, with an uncommon combination of ingredients that was surprisingly delicious. The pork carnitas dish was so well balanced--the pork was rich and cooked perfectly and balanced with some grilled peach and marinated cherries. The salmon ceviche came with some unique sesame cracker. The texture was delightful when mixed with the salmon and some cucumber, red onion, and bell pepper. The Cloud Bay clams with squid ink noodles was so interesting-- good, but a little too salty for me (but I'm more sensitive to salt than most). Best meal we've had in all of South Island!

We got seated once our table was ready and got greeted right away as we entered the establishment. We ordered couple of lovely cocktails which were delicious. I got a mezcal cocktail and they had fresh thyme in it. It smelled so amazing that I thought they probably literally picked it up from their garden. Though this is Tapas style, Our server mentioned that between a couple, 3-4 dishes were good.. we were so confused in regards to what to order since everything looked amazing. After having decided about 3-4 dishes we went ahead and ordered the ceviche, the potatoes, the mussels and lamb and loved everything. If you are in the area, highly recommend coming here. Also ususally this place is booked so they appreciate reservations !

Beautiful view of the water and of the planes descending over the water to land at the nearby airport. As we've discovered while on holiday here, the overall quality of food (ingredients, preparation, cooking and presentation) in New Zealand is above par! You can see and taste the freshness in everything you eat. The food at Frankton Arm Tavern is no exception. We had the cheesy bacon fries, chicken wings, and kids mac and cheese (of course). EVERYTHING was delicious - especially the wings. They were perfectly cooked with a thick, sticky, sweet, bbq sauce on top (a little tang would have been nice, but they were delicious none the less). The girls, unfortunately, didn't like the mac and cheese. Unfortunately (for them) the cheese wasn't cheddar (or processed cheddar), maybe edam instead, and it was flavored with herbs and cumin. I, on the other hand, LOVED IT! We've also found the service everywhere in NZ to be exceptionally welcoming, pleasant and helpful. The gentlemen at the bar here were all of the above. Frankton Arm Tavern is a MUST when you're in Queenstown! Note: DO NOT confuse with the Frankton Ale House which is a block or so away and is a Chinese restaurant. We mistakenly walked into the Frankton Ale House and were greeted with stares from the Chinese patrons (you know, the "wtf are you doing here?" face) and pointedly ignored by the Chinese staff. Felt just like home. Ha.

I enjoyed the roasted veggie salad and my husband had the most enormous fish sandwich that I've ever seen in my life. We had the Mickey's nachos for an appetizer which was fun considering we are from Arizona which is practically the nacho capital of the States. We sat outside on the patio for lunch which was just right for people watching but also toured inside to see the genuine Emerald Isle Memorabilia which was really cool. Mickey's also boasts to have the best Whiskey collection in town though we did not partake this particular day. Generous are the portions, friendly are the staff but S-L-O-W is the service. If you are looking to have a leisurely, yet gastronomically interesting lunch, try Mickey's. For the above mentioned items...it was 2 hours from start to finish. Seriously.... So they get 4 stars because the food was really tasty but because the service was so slow, I had to bump them down to 3. It wasn't crowded and there was really no good reason for the food to take so darn long to come out.

The poutine, while used mozzarella instead of cheese curds, was our favorite and would just come here to order a few orders of that. We also got a flight to share to try some local brews including 3 sours, 1 ginger beer, 1 cider, and 1 lemonade. They were all good and I especially liked the ginger beer on the menu. I ordered onion rings and a Carnivore BBQ pizza. Both looked amazing (pictures posted) but looks can be deceiving and my meal was very deceptive.
