Hot Smoked Hoki
Nicolas L.

My wife and I visited Ivy and Lola's for breakfast on a recent trip to Queenstown. I ordered the Hot Smoked Hoki. This white fish, similar to cod, was nicely flakey and smoky and was paired with creamy savory potato gratin, yolky poached eggs, fresh crisp greens, and a flavorful salsa verde. The dish was an enjoyable combination of flavors and textures. Overall, Ivy and Lolas is a quality spot for breakfast.

Broccoli Cheddar Soup with Cheese Bread

We saw this place close to the water and decided to try it out as it was about to rain. I had a broccoli cheese soup with cheese bread and my friend had the beef casserole dish. Both dishes were delightful! It was a bit pricey, but to be fair, most of Queenstown is expensive. Meals at a restaurant like this will set you back about $20-$35NZ which is normal in this area. The service here wasn't that great - they are very slow. But with food that good, I can't complain. I highly recommend this spot for the views and to just relax a bit from how much walking you're doing around the city!

Herbed corn and cheddar fritters

Flew in to Queenstown and the hotel breakfast was unavailable that day so we went into town to get breakfast. To sum it up, this place has fantastic food with great view of the Remarkables - really creative name - and service to match. Breakfast is one of my favorite foods of the day because I never wake up early enough to enjoy it half the year. When I do wake up early enough to enjoy it, I enjoy breakfast that I can't just make myself at home. Throwing an egg on a plate with some bacon and potatoes is just lazy. We ordered two things: herbed corn and cheddar fritters and southern fried chicken and waffles. The pictures I uploaded really speaks for itself: just look at that juicy, thick streaky bacon. The herbed corn and fritters is nice and crunchy, not too doughy with just the right amount of filling given that there's no meat and it comes with a perfectly done side of poached egg. The fried chicken and waffles, admittedly, was not the best fried chicken I've ever had but the satisfying combination of crunchy waffles, chicken, and bacon is absolutely delicious. The jalapeno chutney was new though, since I've never really seen it served with a plate like that. Not too spicy, but sour enough to counteract some of the sweetness from the syrup glaze to really mesh with the whole dish. It's too bad that getting to Queenstown is really expensive.

Seriously do not know why this place got all the good reviews. I admit it is a bit different atmosphere, our server was awesome, hostess not so much, food very disappointing. Maybe I was expecting too much after reading all the good reviews. Would not recommend, there so many cheaper and tastier places to eat in Queenstown!

Smoked fish brunch.
Johahn L.

We had a great sat brunch here. Ordered the smoked fish and French toast. Both excellent dishes. The smoked fish came with potato cake and poached eggs. The eggs were done just right - golden and slights runny. The French toast was topped with lots of fruits and mascarpone. Neither dishes were heavy, just right for brunch. Coffee - the flat whites were fine, just a tad more milk than I like and they use sugar cubes... but I am a coffee snob. It's really nitpicking now. The ambience was outstanding, nice gas fireplace in the middle with retro decoration. Topped with great service. Perfect place to chill out in Queenstown before the ride up the slopes or after. In fact we are going to check out their gluhwein soon!

Great beer

This is one of the best meals thst I have had in Queenstown. The steak and root vegetables. The steak was cooked perfectly and was delicious. The vegetables were cooked perfectly as well. The Speight's beer was the a good choice to compliment the steak. Great spot for dinner. They have a collection of very old radios throughout the restaurant. They also use the front of a piano mounted on the wall for a silverware caddy. Awesome place on the lake.

The view!

Great food, friendly services, a little bit slow and an amazing view!!! I ordered the big breakfast and a coffee! It was worth the wait. Superb ingredients and a great atmosphere Ps. The bubble and squeak is cooked fresh for all the traditionalists

Smoked fish (Pochi - I hope I'm getting it right) with eggs benedict, bacon and other awesome stuff I just don't recall right now.

My fiancé made the smart decision of looking at areas outside of downtown and found this restaurant. It's a little on the outskirts of downtown but not too far (via car). Our reservation was for 9 but we got there almost an hour earlier yet managed to get a table. The owner/manager (?) welcomed us and sat us himself. As for tables for dining, this place is pretty small so it makes sense to make a reservation for dinner during the busy seasons. This is definitely a local place and the service shows that. We ordered the tomato and basil bruschetta to share and a glass of Riesling, we enjoyed both. Like most places in NZ I've been to, they have one vegetarian option in their mains so I went with it: house-made gnocchi with tomato, chili, basil, olive & caper sauce with ricotta and Parmesan cheese. It was absolutely delicious, after having Italian at several places in NZ, this dish felt the most authentic and was hands down the best. I've enjoyed every part of the dish and wanted more. The fiancé ordered the Fiordland wild venison, seared on mushroom risotto and steamed green beans and liked it a lot. The service was pretty good, I've learned to lower my expectations regarding service when outside the US but our waitress was sweet and personable. The owner/manager also checked on us several times throughout the meal. We had a little issue with some items being wrong on the check itself and getting the check (but I assume they simply didn't want to rush us) but all in all, I truly enjoyed this place and it was probably the best meal we had on our trip.

We ordered a Mediterranean pizza and garlic bread. Although it wasn't 100% authentic Italian it was the best pizza we ate while in New Zealand. The toppings had great flavor and the crust wasn't too crispy, hard, or floppy. Give it a try!

Like everywhere in NZ, make reservations…read more I'm staying in Queenstown for a few days, and booked this reservation a few nights prior. The restaurant itself is long and narrow, so tables on one side and servers and the kitchen on the other. I ordered bruschetta for my starter & spaghetti bolognese for my main. The bruschetta came out with sliced prosciutto on top which I could have done without. I wished for more tomatoes, onion, and oil. The spaghetti bolognese was flavorful but just ok? Like, I'm not Italian but can make a better version of that at home. Although it's a simple dish, that probably not something you want to hear when you're selling it for $36 NZD. So the overall dining experience was a bit meh. I went to a pizzeria in Te Anau with better flavors. It might be a nice dinner date because the ambiance is lovely, if a bit loud. The service was fine, if a bit on the slow side.

Not much to look at but it was a little quieter and away from the ovens back there. Husband had the fettuccine carbonara and I had a margarita pizza. Both were excellent. We started with a Caprese salad which was also excellent. My pizza had homemade crust with the bubbly burnt edges that happens in a woodfire oven. So good. Service was excellent. Parking on street is less than rare so we parked in a lot for roughly $10USD. Great experience.

The meal was creative, inspired, with an uncommon combination of ingredients that was surprisingly delicious. The pork carnitas dish was so well balanced--the pork was rich and cooked perfectly and balanced with some grilled peach and marinated cherries.
