    Good local beer

MEEEEAAAATTT! MEEEAAAATTTT! MEAT! MEAT! MEAT! Flame Bar & Grill has the meat! This place was one I wanted to go while in Queenstown. It's located along Beach Street, right across Aotea Gifts. Reservations is recommended as the first night we went, it was fully booked. The restaurant is open and spacious. Good atmosphere! The dining area is on the 2nd level, and you have clear views of Lake Wakatipu. Though, it needs bigger windows! Looking at the menu, it was hard to decide because there are SO many choices, so much meat, and I always want to try everything! There were a few course options, such as the Steak Board Selection, Flame Mixed Grill, and Flame's Best. We decided to go with the Flame's Best. It was A LOT OF FOOD. The dishes felt like they were full sized dishes! Started with the Baked Cheese Balls. These were delicious! Warm, cheesy, and tasty. The bread was toasty outside with a soft inside. Next was a choice of Mozambique prawns, or an assorted entree of Crispy Calamari, Buffalo Wings, and Boerewors Sausage. Let's go with the one with the most food! The Calamari was good! Soft, tender, and tasty. The batter was light, but not very crispy. The accompanying Peri Peri sauce was good! Ended up using this to dip other things. The Buffalo Wings were okay. The wings were on the small, less meaty side, and ate a little tough. The char was great, and the sauce was good. Not overpowering as US-style Buffalo wings. The Boerewors sausage was really good. Meaty, tender, rich, and tasty. The Chimichurri sauce was excellent! Fries were good. Crispy with soft inside, and well seasoned. Next up were the main dishes, and these were pretty big portions! The Skewered Lamb was good. It wasn't lamby at all, had a nice char, and tasty glaze. The pieces were quite big, and some pieces were a little overcooked and slightly on the tough side. The accompanying slaw was very good. Bright, light, and really helped cut the heavy meats. The Rib Eye steak was perfect. Nicely seasoned, cooked to a nice medium rare with a solid char. It was already sliced! The steak with the delicious, flavorful Flame Creamy Mushroom sauce (also included in the FEAST) was excellent! The Peri Peri Chicken was decent. The skin had great flavor, crispy, and a nice char. The meat was on the dry and bland side though. Now for the star, and Flame's Signature dish, the Pork Ribs. The BBQ glaze was tasty. The ribs didn't WOW me. The meat wasn't as tender or juicy or fall off the bone as I imagined. It was slightly on the tough and dry side. Overcooked? Overall, this was a quite the meal! If you want to try everything, bring your appetite, and choose the FEAST Flame's Best. It was unfortunate we couldn't finish everything and couldn't take it home (no kitchen in hotel). Because all the food was flavorful, and most of the meat were good. This place really has a nice atmosphere and environment. The menu is extensive and had a nice selection of drinks. Service was great. Friendly and attentive servers. Food came out quickly. I'd come here again and will probably order other things (and request a window table!). Flame On!

It was one of the options that was open after 9pm for dinner in the Queenstown area, the others were closed or were not serving food. Food was served in a timely manner and I loved that they had salads as an options. One thing that I noticed is that servers rotate so you're not assigned only one server and they all help out each other. My only complaint was the feather that I found embedded in my wing. The beet salad was great, I would go back for another one.

First meal in NZ and it was the right choice. Loved the ribs and the surprise stand out were the prawns. It may have been the best dish of the night. Service was good. Refilled water timely. Ambiance was great since there's plenty of seating and space away from others so it's not too noisy.

Good, but would be better with less sweet sauces and better quality meat.

All the meats on one plate, sausage, chicken, ribs.., and ribeye. The problem here is with the exception of the sausage and chicken which were overcooked and just okay the other meats were slathered in a cloyingly sweet sauce that was tasty initially but became very tiresome quickly. An American chain restaurant called Chili's does the same thing disguising average quality meat with heaps of sauces. Quality meat restaurants want the food to speak for itself and limit seasonings. If you try this restaurant as for the sauces in the side, maybe they'll do that, probably not.

VISIT: end of February 2020 VIEW: if you can sit on the enclosed balcony, it has a GREAT view of lake wakatipu and Earnslaw Park RESERVATIONS: highly recommended (for the time of the year we went, we barely squeezed into get a table this night) WHAT WE ATE: rib-eye and fragrant lamb skewer PRICE: decent considering the quality of the meat (we would pay more in America) We were recommended Flame by our tour guide from our Around the Basin Bike tour. My husband was looking to have venison and lamb (2 types of meat that are difficult to find at home) and they were recommended and did not disappoint. I got steak, because I love steak and it was delicious! In fact, it's been almost a year and my husband brought up this place the other day - it's definitely stayed with us. We showed up after our tour and they were just able to squeeze us in before another reservation, so I do recommend reservations, if you can get them. WOULD I RETURN HERE: 100% WOULD I PLAN TO STOP HERE ON A TRIP: Yes. I don't think it's anything you'd miss if you didn't get to stop here, but for meat lovers, I thought it was definitely a great stop - plus we got the balcony, so the views were amazing!

Calamari and Prawn appetizers, on point we shared the sampler meat platter, awesome. The place has a cool vibe. Our waitress was over worked but did an excellent job! So happy wee tried this place.

This place was great! The restaurant is upstairs, where you have a stunning view looking at Lake Wakatipu. The service is friendly and prompt. After walking around Queenstown, I just wanted some hearty chowder, and this place really hit the spot. It was amazing! The chowder was chock full of seafood and the creamy soup was delightfully seasoned with dill. Seriously, one of the best chowders I have ever had. My husband ordered a cheeseburger and fries, and I tasted both- very good! Then we decided to partake in their Mars Bars Brûlée- a delicious end to our meal. Overall, I really enjoyed aflame Bar and Grill and would be back if I ever make it to Queenstown again.

My partner had the lamb burger, we shared the poutine, and I had the venison pot pie. Portion sizes are huge so I had to take away some of my pot pie and some leftover poutine in a box. Taste wise, my partner enjoyed his burger, we both loved the poutine, and the venison pot pie was good but a little too sweet for my liking. The poutine, while used mozzarella instead of cheese curds, was our favorite and would just come here to order a few orders of that. We also got a flight to share to try some local brews including 3 sours, 1 ginger beer, 1 cider, and 1 lemonade. They were all good and I especially liked the ginger beer on the menu. The alcoholic lemonade was also quite nice and better than any alcoholic lemonades I've had in the states.

The exterior was cute with a huge, adorable furry polar bear in front. We were fitted for our jackets, given a short tutorial, then it was time to enter the icy wonderland. The interior was a bit smaller than expected, but it was impressive, as the whole space was made out of ice and bathed in colorful lighting. There were also quite a few elaborate ice sculptures, mostly of animals, such as a life size horse, eagle, penguin, and more. There were also several ice chairs and benches, with fur on top, indicating they could be sit on. Since I was only getting mocktails, I was able to select 4 drinks. Bartender was welcoming and wonderful. The drinks were made in front of you and poured into a cup made of ice, which could be smashed afterwards. The mocktails consisted of flavors such as Apple, Pineapple, Kiwifruit and Pineapple, Lime, Coconut. They were sweet, fruity, and refreshing. We stayed the full hour, until the song "Ice Ice Baby" was played. It was nice to be there the whole time, because toward the end there were only a couple of us, which made for much better photos!
