For some reason, this beer bar and the last made a big deal about having Sculpin on tap. And little did they know, these San Diegan's cared not! Plenty of fresh hops selections were eyed instead, brews from Garage Project and Behemoth the MUCH better selections. The beer bar is huge with plenty of places to post up. Despite it's location in touristy QTN, Smith's keeps it laidback with its rougher environs that are not overdone or cringey like some of the places in QTN. Didn't have a food, but it looked to be of good value in expensive QTN, that is, if you aren't tired of pub food.

The setting is very cozy and comfortable and the service rises and falls depending on how busy they are. We saw our oysters delivered to the table next to us who came in 20 minutes after us and it took about an hour for our food (which started with Oysters) to arrive. The server was apologetic and owned the error and the food was excellent so I'm not calling a foul on that one. When they filled up there was an acceptable impact on service. When they settled down the service was exceptionally good. It's a small place and they can't staff as if they were full all the time. That just wouldn't make sense for a place that gets most (or all) of its business from walk-ins. Let's talk about the drinks first. Absolutely excellent cocktails. I think there was a page of various gin drinks and I enjoyed a couple of them. Most notable was the Black Robin. Friends had wine and a whisky drink with Makers Mark that were all well received. Now the food. The oysters were magnificent. I'm not a fan of the vinegar sauce that they (and many/most other places) serve and would have preferred horseradish. That's a personal thing but these oysters were spectacular with nothing on them at all! I eat a few hundred oysters a year and these were the best I've had this year. We also had the seafood chowder which was tremendous! It is cream based (as it should be!) and could not have been better. If you just came here to drink gin, eat oysters and chowder you would thoroughly enjoy yourself. But don't just drink and eat. Relax and enjoy the setting. Watch some interesting people. Be entertained watching the bartender mix drinks and take in all the Eichardt's has to offer. Clearly they are trying to create a special atmosphere here and it totally works! If we come back to Queenstown I'm staying at the hotel and hanging out here whenever I can. Just an amazing experience!

You could stay the entire time or come and take your photos and dip out. Everything is a personal preference. Bartender was welcoming and wonderful. The drinks were made in front of you and poured into a cup made of ice, which could be smashed afterwards. The mocktails consisted of flavors such as Apple, Pineapple, Kiwifruit and Pineapple, Lime, Coconut. They were sweet, fruity, and refreshing. We stayed the full hour, until the song "Ice Ice Baby" was played. It was nice to be there the whole time, because toward the end there were only a couple of us, which made for much better photos!
