Stopped in here for a beer on what's Thanksgiving in the US. I wanted some comfort food so what better place than an Irish pub? Ordered their famous beef & guiness pie. Really wanted a shepherd's pie but I didn't see it on the menu. The crust was perfectly cooked. Flaky and delicious. I loved their gravy on top. I thought the meat on the inside was just ok. It was flavorful but not the best pie I've had in NZ (which was at a place on Athol on the way down to Te Anau btw). I'm an American so take that with a grain of salt. Don't get me wrong it was good, just not great. Oh and I loved the slice of soda bread they gave you. First time trying that! Had a few NZ IPA's as well which were FANTASTIC. I don't remember the name. Anyway, everyone was friendly. I thought the prices were kind of high for a pie & a bit of mash--but perhaps that's just the tourist tax in Queenstown. Would 100% come back but I think I would try the Irish stew instead. read more

We had great service and food. You order at the bar and they bring you the food. They also will bring you a bottle of water. The fireplace down states was lit the night we visited. There is an upstairs for dining and also an outdoor deck upstairs and the patio. Staff were friendly and efficient. I had the roasted vegetable salad and added chicken. It was great value and very fresh ingredients. My friend had the steak that came with fries, onion rings and salad. He opted for the creamy mushroom sauce on the side. I'd go back! read more

Stopped in after a day of hiking. Super starving and the first thing I heard was an Irishman ask if I was thirsty. Why YES, yes I am. Great atmosphere with multiple taps and a large menu. Started off with a pint of Kilkenny and a shot of Jamo!! From that point on I knew it wouldn't be hard to disappoint. Started out with the shrimp and chorizo and calamari. AMAZING!!! Wonderfully flavored and the calamari was nice and tender with large pieces. The Irish beef pie was sooooo good no almost ordered another. I'm so glad that I stopped in. Super friendly staff and great food! We walked in for dinner after arriving into Queenstown and wanted a hearty dinner. It was a seat-yourself situation and at 5:30ish, the place was already pretty full! We were able to find a table for four and were quickly greeted and provided menus. The food was really good! The menu points out their recommended items - definitely believe them! We picked a number of those items and didn't regret them. Seafood chowder: the best one we've had in our entire 2 week trip in New Zealand! The perfect consistency (not watery, not too chunky), creamy without being overly rich, a nice amount of seafood... everything you'd want! Highly recommend. Potato leek soup- pretty decent but not as good as the recommended seafood chowder. Hot stone grill: pretty straightforward - my dad got the beef one and I got the mixed (5 types of meat - chicken, beef, lamb, 2 shrimps and 2 slices of chorizo). Straightforward and fun. I asked for the waiter's recommended sauces and he said peppercorn or the red wine jus. I tried the peppercorn and it was creamy and sweet - not bad but not my favorite either. I liked my dad's mushroom sauce. Beef & Guinness pie- tried a bit of my mom's dish and it was delicious! Flaky crust, yummy gravy, overall a solid choice if you've got the appetite. It's been more than a week since we've been there and I'm still thinking of that seafood chowder - would definitely recommend Pog Mahones just for that! read more

VISIT: end of February 2020 We stopped by here after lunch and just wanted to enjoy the beautiful scenery. There are only a few tables along Lake Wakatipu but it was a great spot to enjoy some post-lunch beverages. I ordered a hot chocolate with Bailey's and my husband got a beer. While walking around Queenstown, we were looking for somewhere to watch the Super Bowl. We spotted Pog Mahones, a quaint Irish pub right in the middle of downtown. We luckily got the last two bar seats as this place was pretty packed for the game. We shared the Nachos and Spicy Chicken Wings (both very tasty!) while enjoying a really fun afternoon with a lively crowd. The staff here is very friendly and attentive, the food is great, and they even have a small stage where musicians play daily. We will definitely come back here again when we're in Queenstown. read more

I'm not one to typically write a review, but I feel it is necessary to warn others of the awful experience we encountered from staff at this establishment. Myself and two other women came in to meet a couple of our friends for a drink after dinner. After ordering a single drink, we were insulted and put in a very uncomfortable situation because of questioning the staff on when the bar closed. This escalated to the point of an employee saying "F*ck you" to myself. I can't say that I've ever felt more disrespected as a woman, and I just hope that others can avoid this situation (and this bar) in the future. read more

The restaurant is pretty spacious. There is outdoor seating as well as two levels. They have a small stage with live music playing. The atmosphere here is rather nice and cozy. For dinner, I had the seafood and rump meal. It comes with shrimp, scallop, mussel, rump, salad, and French fries. The seafood and rump come raw, on a hot plate. You have to cook it yourself. The food came quite quickly because they didn't have to do any cooking. It's pretty fun cooking your own food. The rump takes a long time to cook, so it's best to cut it into small pieces to cook individually. Otherwise, it would take forever. The food gets pretty sticky on the hot plate. No oil is on there so that it doesn't burn you. It was a pretty delicious meal and quite filling. read more

Stopped in to get out of the cold rain. Pleasant enough staff, great Guinness. Had a plate of mixed cheeses, meats, savory relishes, crackers etc. it was wonderful! Made a very nice light lunch for the two of us. read more

My husband and I were walking around Queenstown and spotted this restaurant which had a $27 stonegrill special on Monday nights. We didn't know what that meant but decided to give it a try. What fun! He had the tasting plate with beef, lamb, chicken, shrimp, chorizo, and venison. I had the beef filet. It included 2 sides and a sauce. The meat is served raw on a 400 degree Celsius (750 Fahrenheit) stone so you cook it to you choice of doneness. The meat was all excellent and we cooked it without burning either tongues or fingers. The beer selection wasn't all that great and two beers came out to a staggering total of almost $20 but we had already ordered so we couldn't do much about that. Stopped in for a lunch here. Tried the seafood chowder with high expectations having tasted fantastic chowder on our trip. Pog Mahones was OK, but nothing to write home about. Lots of peas floating on the top with a couple of large but mostly tasteless mussels. Service was good, but better food choices in Queenstown for sure. read more

Great little Irish pub in the middle of queenstown. It has a great atmosphere right from when you walk in to its decor to the friendly bartender. They have sports on the television and usually some kind of special going on. There menu was somewhat unique and different and enjoyed my meal there. A little expensive for what it was but tasty. read more

A bit on the expensive side but the upstairs restaurant was VERY good. Not realising what I ordered, I was surprised by raw meet on a hot stone; after the surprise wore off, I thought it was amazing (just make sure you read the description ;) ) Furthermore, we were delighted with the sound of live music from their downstairs bar which also lured us in for after-dinner drinks. Came for dinner and in search of some atmosphere. Food was really lovely, there's a lovely menu for everyone's tastes. Portions aren't massive which was good as we weren't too stuffed to enjoy the rest of the night. Great Irish atmosphere.
