Tapas menu from 12pm till "late"
    Tim B.

A classy, intimate bar nestled in a historic building that sits on the waterfront of Lake Wakatipu in the heart of Queenstown. The tapas menu serves some delicious small plates that are perfect for sharing and the bartenders are well trained in the art of mixology. Perfect for an afternoon snack where you can people watch the tourists sauntering along the promenade.

Loved this tiny chic bar with a Tapas menu. They were full when we arrived ( all seven tables) but informed us two tables were clearing soon and asked if we would like to wait in the two comfy leather chairs in the lobby. Sure! As we perused the menu ( chose the Harissa lamb, salad and chips) settled on drinks; martini for Nick who is always happy to find his favorite gin (beefeaters) and I picked the local winery Gibbston Valley's sparkling wine( delicious). The concierge , Kirin, helped us figure out which winery in the area has a good lunch and tasting combo in the coming days of our visit to Queenstown. ( think we will check out Waitiri Creek winery as per his glowing recommendation.) Got seated after 10 minute wait. The waitress/ bartender was so great, friendly and attentive. Loved this place. Romantic, great food, and comfortable place to sit side by side to have a wonderful conversation with your date.

Fancy little bar/lounge in historic hotel. The hotel is situated right on the lake in Queenstown, so it's a great location to hang out. We came by in the late afternoon for a drink before dinner, and although the tables filled up while we were there, the atmosphere was still pretty calm and quiet. I have to say it was mostly older tourists (the place is pretty fancy/expensive) but I didn't mind. They have comfy lounge type seating and a nice big fireplace - unfortunately it wasn't lit while we were there :( I originally came in for a cocktail but after looking at the menu, decided that $17 was just too much to pay for a single drink! So I got a glass of wine instead (more reasonable at around $10). We also ordered the squid ink breaded calamari and it was delicious. Definitely different and a big strange, but very yummy. The only downside to the experience was when our server asked if we wanted some water (I said yes) and then asked still or sparkling. I said still (assuming that meant tap water) and were ended up being charged $6 for a regular old bottle of water! I mean, seriously? But I guess it was my mistake and I should have clarified - I learned my lesson and will emphasize "tap" next time I'm at a fancy tapas lounge in NZ.

    Sorry - just showing off.

Got lucky. Very very lucky. This little place has only seven two person tables and doesn't take bookings. Thank God. We walked in and right then, someone left and we sat down in the world's most comfy leather couch in front of a fire and started eating the best food on the planet. Tapas, which when translated from Spanish means 'just keep eating and we will keep bringing you food'. Central Otago Chardonnay from a vineyard we had been to. I think... We had many little dishes and everything was out there amazing. Calamari with squid ink tempura that it looks like its been left in the oven for two days but tastes like a mermaid kissed a squid thinking it was a frog and turned it into a succulent fresh seafood dream. With a dot of lemon aoli and wild watercress. Oh God. ....and then ??? Eichardt's legendary seafood chowder. Rumour has it the locals have threatened to burn the place down if this is ever taken off the menu. I'd give them the match. ...and then??? Harissa marinated Cardrona lamb cheeks, hummus, cumin yoghurt, marinated courgette. I didn't know lambs even had cheeks! Caramelised potato gnocchi, tomato and Bannockburn saffron broth, with Balfour sheeps cheese. Roast pumpkin tortellini, plum sauce, chèvre, toasted seeds. ...and then ??? Wagyu beef shortrib in a chocolate, chilli and cinnamon glaze, beetroot pureé, parsnip crisps. True. That short rib was the most fantastic piece of meat I have ever eaten. I may have been happier eating food in my life but I can't remember when. This spot is the best in Queenstown but don't tell anyone because you will just start a fight. Do not miss this place. If you have to wait for two days, do it. In Winter. After skiing at Cardrona. On perfect fresh snow under cloudless sunny skies. With my red hot wife...OK not that last thing, she's fully booked. With no cancellation list. Joy.

I give 4 stars for the location atmosphere and decorations but not the food it's only worth 3 stars. It's all tourists and lots of them come hv a drink or even tea I guess it's not for the perfect food . I was a bit disappointed maybe my expectations are too high. It looks very stylish from outside though..

Great food and environment. The lamb cheeks and the seafood chowder were the best things on the menu. You can come here for quick bites and relax before your main meal.

    Just look at it

So far best food in Queenstown. Great taste with reasonable price.

You need to try your luck. We are lucky to find the last space next to the door. We ordered the Eichardt's legendary seafood chowder, Harissa marinated lamb and Calamari plus the local cheese both cheddar and blue! We will come back for their breakfast.

My partner had the lamb burger, we shared the poutine, and I had the venison pot pie. Portion sizes are huge so I had to take away some of my pot pie and some leftover poutine in a box. Taste wise, my partner enjoyed his burger, we both loved the poutine, and the venison pot pie was good but a little too sweet for my liking. The poutine, while used mozzarella instead of cheese curds, was our favorite and would just come here to order a few orders of that. We also got a flight to share to try some local brews including 3 sours, 1 ginger beer, 1 cider, and 1 lemonade. They were all good and I especially liked the ginger beer on the menu. The alcoholic lemonade was also quite nice and better than any alcoholic lemonades I've had in the states.

A day latter and the Smith Burger is everything I'm looking for, It was a perfect medium rare, I didn't ask for - but nonetheless so good, a great combination of sauces and garnishes made this one of the super burgers I've eaten. A fantastic beer selection as well.

The exterior was cute with a huge, adorable furry polar bear in front. We were fitted for our jackets, given a short tutorial, then it was time to enter the icy wonderland. The interior was a bit smaller than expected, but it was impressive, as the whole space was made out of ice and bathed in colorful lighting. There were also quite a few elaborate ice sculptures, mostly of animals, such as a life size horse, eagle, penguin, and more. There were also several ice chairs and benches, with fur on top, indicating they could be sit on. Since I was only getting mocktails, I was able to select 4 drinks. Bartender was welcoming and wonderful. The drinks were made in front of you and poured into a cup made of ice, which could be smashed afterwards. The mocktails consisted of flavors such as Apple, Pineapple, Kiwifruit and Pineapple, Lime, Coconut. They were sweet, fruity, and refreshing. We stayed the full hour, until the song "Ice Ice Baby" was played. It was nice to be there the whole time, because toward the end there were only a couple of us, which made for much better photos! I had a lot of fun and really enjoyed this icy time!

Really wanted a shepherd's pie but I didn't see it on the menu. The crust was perfectly cooked. Flaky and delicious. I loved their gravy on top. I thought the meat on the inside was just ok. It was flavorful but not the best pie I've had in NZ (which was at a place on Athol on the way down to Te Anau btw). I'm an American so take that with a grain of salt. Don't get me wrong it was good, just not great. Oh and I loved the slice of soda bread they gave you. First time trying that! Had a few NZ IPA's as well which were FANTASTIC. I don't remember the name. Anyway, everyone was friendly. I thought the prices were kind of high for a pie & a bit of mash--but perhaps that's just the tourist tax in Queenstown.
