I used to work here a couple months ago, I quit. The one thing that is very obvious with this…read morecommunity is that nobody is on top of their duties, the children they take care of, the activities given and even their employees. If you're pursing another career and in school please don't bother working here. They assume that doing things out of your job description is more important than YOU and your HEALTH. They don't care about their workers and especially your children! Nothing will be adequate for the people running this place and to be frank.. it's ran by 20 year olds with no children and with no idea. The staff continues to get worse and more disgusting by the years go by, since all the good people are in quitting. Please assign your children elsewhere and if you're looking for a job, stay far away from SHH.

Our family have been members at Sarah Heinz for 15 years. For the most part it has been great…read more However, the last few years, the leadership has diminished. The new Steam Director does not put kids first. This was evident by the treatment the Worlds Qualifying robotics team received this last year. Because of the refusal to compromise, they effectively dismantled the robotics team, causing 1/3 of the team to leave, many who were recognized as Youth of the year and nominated for the First Robotics Deans list for there passion, contribution and promotion of the team and Heinz. Despite these accolades and the team having 1 qualifying robot completed, and another robot nearly finished, the director demanded changes to the robots that were not necessary, required late nights to accomplish, and threaten to withhold competitions and punish if not completed. Heinz decided mid season to change the student lead team, where the students had the autonomy to plan, build and make decision on the robot, allowing the to learn from mistakes or celebrate their accomplishments; to a student build team, being dictated by the new Steam Director. This was not how the team was run for many years, it was not what we signed up for, and was not how the team started or was advertised and promoted in the same year. We are very disappointed in the mentors who understood this from past years and refused to facilitate a productive transition. Instead of the Heinz motto, Laugh Learn Lead, it became, Be Quiet, Work, Follow. I believe everyone on the team deserves a refund for the significant change made to team midway through the season. There are still those at Heinz we respect and appreciate, and we are saddened our time there had to end on such bad terms, but we are deeply disappointed in the treatment my family and many others received and how easily Heinz disregarded the students who left. We cannot support Heinz House, or the new Steam Director after this. I hope its a better situation for others that stay, but I would be wary of the Steam Director and how she treats the programs under her. As it was explained to us by the mentors that know her, She will not except NO for an answer, and will do what it takes to get what she wants. We find that mindset to be very toxic when working with students at a place where you are supposed to foster leaders.

EDIT: Spoke to a manager who is working to honor the reservation. Will update review further after…read morethe party (crossing my fingers it does go forward). Original 1 star review below... Original review: Looking for a birthday party venue for our kiddo, I came across Assemble. It looked great! -- they advertise birthday parties on their website, and include pricing and other info about activities and number of kids they can accommodate. Great, it's all looking good. I fill out their online form with the required info, including three potential dates for the party that all comply with the date restrictions they have posted in their website, and submit it. I get a response the next day -- again, great!! Yes, they can do the first requested date. Yes, they can do activities for the age group. Leah, the "Camp Coordinator" (according to her email signature block) asks if we are still interested/want to confirm the party date. I say, yes, we definitely want to book. Cut to today when Leah emails to say, ooops! When we confirmed the party, we were just kidding!!!!! No party. Instead, Assemble decided to do camp on that date, so they can charge more money. They hope I can understand their decision to unilaterally cancel my kiddo's birthday party reservation, which they previously confirmed, because it's easier for them to cancel my kid's party than to keep their word. No. No, I don't understand. It's unprofessional. Best case scenario, they're so disorganized that their Camp Coordinator booked my kid's birthday party without realizing that they already had camp scheduled for that date. But, no, that's not what she said happened. She *admitted* that she found out (after booking the party) that Assemble subsequently decided it would do a camp on the party date. Rather than honor the party reservation that was already confirmed, they just cancelled my kiddo's party. I could never recommend them to anyone, because you can't trust them. They'll take their word back when it suits them.

All the staff work put so much work into making the space feel safe and welcoming to kids and adults. It is clear that everyone working there cares deeply about the local community. They highlight local artists in their gallery space, and bring in guest artists to teach kids and adults. The 21+ nights are so fun, I always invite my friends and end up leaving assemble with a fun project and a new skill!
