I had a very similar experience to what others have described here. The older woman at the register was extremely rude and even asked a colleague to "keep an eye on us," which made my friend and me very uncomfortable. I'm not someone who plays the victim or jumps to conclusions, but it was clear we weren't being treated with the same respect as other customers. We came in ready to spend money and support the store, but after her nasty attitude, we decided to leave without buying anything. Honestly, I don't know if this woman is unhappy with her life and just straight up bitter with who she is, but that's no excuse to take it out on customers. If she doesn't know how to interact with people respectfully, she shouldn't be working in a customer-facing job! It's disappointing to see that this kind of behavior is still happening. Hopefully, the owner takes notice--no one deserves to be treated that way just for shopping. read more

We stopped in & found so many pairs of funny socks. Cute stuff inside but it is mostly touristy stuff.

My son and I purchased 2 cap guns and caps on Monday. When we checked out the girl asked "do you want your receipt" and I said "no, it's ok." Then I realize my son grabbed the wrong size caps after we were walked back to our hotel. We walk back over and I ask the manager if I can exchange the caps for the right size and he says yes. My son grabs the correct size caps, and then the manager tells me I cannot exchange them without the receipt. I am clearly holding the General Store bag (with over $100 of merchandise I bought) and the cashier is the same girl that rang me up. The manager refused to exchange the caps so I purchased more. I will not be returning to this store. What horrible customer service and clearly they do not value their customers! read more

Would give this place 5 stars but customer service here was pretty bad. The first thing we heard as we walked in was "we are closing in 7 minutes!" I've worked in retail in the past and never were able to turn down customers as they came in. So we still decide to walk in and buy some stuff. I'm visiting from the PNW. I love stores like this. We felt super pressured to hurry up. Many people that would come in would just turn around and not go in the store after hearing how long they had. There is a lot to see here. Lots of cool stuff. It's a shame that we didn't get to look at most of it. Upon paying the cashier was rude and didn't even smile or make eye contact. I get it...it's the end of your shift and you probably want to go home. Not a good reason to be rude. We will be coming back next time we come to Texas and hoping for a better experience. read more

Overall it was a cute place and I was able to get some souvenirs for my littles back home but they empowerment very nice. The first time we tried to come the man literally closed the door in my face because they closed in seven minutes and wouldn't let us in, then we came back and they weren't much nicer when the store was open. read more

I'm not the type to play the race card or victim card, but to be completely honest.. if you're not white, don't expect to be treated respectfully at this establishment. My family was visiting me since they hadn't seen me for 6 years since I enlisted in the Navy. I'm stationed nearby and wanted to treat my family to a nice outing. We came in to this store because my mom wanted to get souvenirs for my family back home. My mom was looking at all of the graphic tshirts and was unfolding some of them so she could get a better look at the whole tshirt. One old woman with white hair snapped at my mom for unfolding the tshirts. She was very rude and disrespectful towards us. This same old woman and a younger more heavyset female employee kept whispering to each other and following me, my husband, my 11 year old brother and my 66 year old uncle around the store, most likely keeping an eye on us to make sure we didn't steal. I knew this kind of stuff happened but It's heartbreaking to actually experience it, especially on a nice family outing day. Those 2 employees really disappointed me. The store was lovely and the prices were a bit high but mom spent over $100 here on t-shirts and other souvenirs. I shouldn't have let her. There are so many other reviews stating similar experiences. Why is this still happening? Why are customers still being treated so horribly here?? read more

Rude cashier! STAY AWAY. This was our first time at the stockyards and we were having a great time until this unpleasant experience. This was around 6:00 yesterday, the rude employee was an older lady training a younger girl (she smiled and was pleasant, no issues with her!) My brother was checking out and meanwhile I was looking at some items on the checkout counter and was confused on price tags since they had 2 different tags. I kindly asked to clarify, and the cashier rudely grabbed the items from my hand and said they were misplaced and continued to place them back. I usually let things like this slide, since you never know what kind of day someone is having. Unfortunately we couldn't give her that grace since we both noticed from the start that her demeanor with us was very different with us than with the lady she helped before us. She did not greet us once it was our turn and proceeded to complain about other employees not doing this and that around the store with the younger girl. Wish we would've not spend out money here! We will not be going back and will make sure to take advantage of the wide variety of other stores that make their patrons welcome! read more

Mixed bag of t-shirts, novelty items, and during the holidays, they have funky Texas style tree decorations! Not a bad place to pick up that bring home gift for the office, or something to remember your trip by item. Prices were decent and the staff were helpful with packaging. A little pricey but a better selection of souvenirs. I had stopped here to check out their selection and continued to check out the other stores, came back to purchase my souvenirs. Most of the staff was nice, the two guys working were pretty friendly and helpful. I had a couple of items on hand and a staff member offered to help me with it by putting it at the counter. The brunette working the cash register was not so nice, she never looked up nor greeted me when I was next to pay - not even a howdy or hello. We came to Fort Worth for the Beer, Bourbon and Brisket festival and our friend from Denmark was with us. We went to the stockyards before the festival to show our friend "Cowtown". I had my little yorkie in my purse because pets were welcome at the festival. Every store we went to welcomed my little dog, but this store was SUPER rude. They sell jars of jelly and salsa so this guy cornered me in the back of the store and said because they serve "food" we had to leave. We were planning on buying things to send back to Denmark, but we were kicked out. One lady even asked me if I had papers proving my yorkie was a service dog...come on! For one it's illegal to ask for papers and who has a service yorkie in a purse? Moron. Maybe we are just use to being in Dallas where pets are welcome and people are friendly. There are plenty of other stores to shop at in the stockyards, so skip this one. read more

This is a fun store with great tourist items. The day we went, there was a vendor giving out brisket sliders to promote their bbq rub and sauce. It was delicious and we ended up buying some (Outlaw Chef brand). There are also some fun shirts and jewelry and decorations and things. I also bought a longhorn cookie cutter. read more

I'm giving The General Store 2 stars only because I happened upon Maverick (across the street) first. Items here are kitschy and oh so touristy (locals must see this place like how I see shops in Chinatown). The quality here is not as nice as Maverick, but items are a little bit cheaper ($5-$10 less). There are a few more low-end souvenir items and not quite as many keepsake type things. I wouldn't mind purchasing trinkets here as a "throw-away" type souvenir for friends who I'm not as close with, but I would make purchases for closer friends/family/myself at Maverick. read more

I ordered, via the Internet, 13 jars of Texas Ranger Salsa (the best salsa made) because the General Store's price was reasonable and they offered free shipping. The salsa arrived very quickly but, 2 of the jars had lost their vacuum seal on the lid. I phoned and they immediately offered to ship 2 replacement jars at their cost, including the shipping. The lady I spoke with on the phone was very pleasant and their customer service is unbelievable. read more
