It's not located in the best area of Flatbush but you can't pick and move history. It's a small house that holds a lot of history for the establishment of NYC. The wyckoff family among other immigrants helped established modern day NYC. The NYC city flag was established around the same time frame as the house. The colors of the flag are blue, orange and white. These are the same colors that the Knicks and Mets to represent their NYC roots. The blue represents the British, orange for the Dutch and white for the American Indians.

It was truly amazing in such an understated way. It felt like stepping back into the 1960s--stretching over to see your neighbor for a quick hello--only to be instantly reminded of whose living room you were actually standing in. The kitchen and bathrooms were a real time-capsule blast! And the office, in particular, was extra special for me. Seeing Louie's many reel-to-reels and his demo library, where so much of his world-loved magic came to life, was incredible. My father was an opera singer during that same era, even a bit earlier, and Pop's equipment and effects were an exact replica! And God bless Lucille Wilson, Louie's last wife. Talk about being ahead of her time! Ms. Wilson singlehandedly loved this man enough to recognize the enormous impact Louie had made--and how vital it was to preserve his home, his music, and his legacy. She fought to have it recognized for its landmark and historical significance. She was a dynamo in her own right, with a deep understanding of "things to come." She was also a community activist--and an absolute "wallpaper" junkie... You'll see exactly what I mean the moment you cross the doorway into this unique, beautifully preserved bygone era. God bless Satchmo and Lucille. And most of all, God bless the hardworking individuals at the Louis Armstrong Center and the historic home who meticulously care for and preserve the world of one of America's greatest citizens and most beloved icons.

The Invisible Dog is a 30,000 square foot facility that once was a Belt Factory. It manufactured…read morethe famous Walt Disney Invisible Dog Party Trick, which is how this spacious place received its name in 1863. Now it is a gem of an Art Center. Greatly stumbling upon it while walking down the street to get my food takeout order made me glad because I truly miss going to art galleries/museums/beautiful art exhibits, etc. Seeing the cool artistically created blue bench outside and peering through the front door made me want to view everything. On display is "The Other Side" exhibit by Brothers Steven + William Ladd. Working w/ over 500 inmates within 8 different Correctional Facilities over the last 9 years, these artists bonded w/ them while collaborating w/ them to create masterpieces. Seems truly therapeutic for all involved in the experience! "The Other Side" includes various installations, paintings, drawings, etc. The "Jail Cell" has words lining all in it from responses gathered around the question "What One Word Defines Incarceration For You? "Isolation" was inspired by the experience of seeing an inmate inside a 6-foot cell for causing a jail lockdown. The "Metal Doors and Pathway" consisted of an entire walkway that we could walk down while viewing all of the art throughout the exhibit. It is designed to let you see the structure of what the brothers viewed as they were scanned into the facility before meeting w/ the inmates. Colorful paintings were also on the walls depicting the work that has inspired and that continues to inspire the artists. All in all, it was a deeply.moving exhibit that speaks to social injustices, oppression, lack of humanity and a calll to action that is needed. The only ticket that was $0 was for kids under 1 year old. My toddler was not. For the 3 of us it was $45 which I thought was a bit much. They also have annual memberships starting at $120. That may be something to consider if you plan to visit the museum multiple times. There was a Lunar New Year celebration at the museum today so we went to check it out. They had a museum wide lion dance parade as well as activities for the kids which included: Kung fu moves demo, ribbon dance workshop, calligraphy, and storytime with Author Michele Wong McSween of "Gordon and Li Li: Celebrate Chinese New Year. We also got to meet City Council member, Susan Zhang who had a booth there. Our little one enjoyed the lion dances and the exhibits as well as walking outside on the 2nd floor outdoor area. I'm looking forward to bringing her here again for other events. Things to consider - it did get a bit crowded because of the event and also the cafe that served food was alright. They ran out of some food items and the quantity of the food they were giving for the prices was not okay. I'll be bringing my own food for my toddler and us next time. Otherwise, it was a fun day for the family.

And there is a library on the 2nd and 3rd floors. On the first floor, after you enter, there is a section in back with maps and historical artifacts on the walls. They play a slideshow on a loops displaying a Brooklyn neighborhood, what they are known for, and a bit on the history. We found that was very interesting. The room in comfortable, so we sat for a while and watch the show go by a few times. Restrooms are on the 2nd and 3rd floors. The elevator is tiny - it holds two people. I chose to ride the elevator up, but to walk down. I noticed there were a number of oil paintings showing historical figures and historical Brooklyn. This is a great place to stop to learn more about Brooklyn and its neighborhoods. We didn't go into the actual library, but we did look through glass doors and saw many, many books. On the 3rd floor, there was a research library only available to historians. It would be interesting to get a peek in there.

There were more employees outside on break than visitors inside. The museum is much smaller than expected three floors and a small library area and I was able to see everything in about 30-40 minutes, even taking my time. While it looks interesting at first, it didn't hold my attention. I love dogs and all fluffy animals, so I thought I'd enjoy it, but it just wasn't for me. Honestly, if you want to "visit" for free, what you see in photos from other reviews is basically the entire museum. If you're in the area and have time to kill, it's fine to stop by, but I wouldn't go out of my way for it. I probably would have been better off going to MoMA. I went with a Groupon deal for $9.20 if that helps.
