Great walking distance to many of the squares, City Market, and River Street. The room was lovely. The staff were so kind, helpful, and friendly. We were able to have breakfast brought to our room every morning. The food was delicious. They even offer a free happy hour every day at 5pm and dessert every night from 8-10. The Gastonian is a beautiful historic house. My husband didn't realize when he booked that there is no elevator and we were on the 3rd floor. With a replaced knee and hips and a bad knee we had a little trouble. The only other suggestion would be to place hand bars in the bathtub. This was our way station on a drive from NY to Florida. And, as they did a bang/up job, it will be again on our return trip. They are doing all the Covid protection procedures- from masks to social distancing to sanitizing. We felt comfortable staying, and eating here. Located in a residential section of the city and surrounded by the most amazing properties- it affords some peace and quiet while providing timeless services and modern amenities. Each suite is a bit different and there are room in three buildings, connected by gardens and a bridge. The room included a full serve breakfast, ordered the night before and served in a classic dining room with about 8ft between tables. It also includes a nightly set of hors d'oeuvres and wine! They are surrounded by residential properties. I like how it was a quick walk to the main touristy area. The room was spacious and comfortable. My husband actually chose this B&B and it was so lovely that we spent a whole day just hanging out instead of walking around. Our room was the Garden Room which was in the other house in back with it's own entrance and little garden. The spiral staircase was too cute, as well as the swing, and there were fish in the fountain! The room was large, with claw foot tub and a gas fireplace which we used! We ordered breakfast in our room but there isn't really a place to eat it. There was so much food and it was sooo delicious! We kept all the biscuits for later. The cocktails and snacks were very popular on some days. As you can see we had those in the dining room and met some nice people that had been to Savannah many times. Some nights the dessert and cordials later in the night was more popular. Free water, sodas, pretty much whatever you'd need they are there for you! They even have picnics that they'll pack for you! I've always wanted to stay at the Gastonian and have been scoping it out for quite some time for potential weekend getaways, but given COVID that happened much later than I originally anticipated. Savannah is like a second home to me, as I have a lot of family here and I do visit Savannah and the Golden Isles quite a bit. This trip came around New Year's Day, and I took the experience to rest, relax, and recuperate after a very trying year as a physician and to reflect on the year to come. Everything you read about the Gastonian is true. The home is historic. The amenities are plenty and immaculate. The rooms are breathtaking. The staff and attendants are very accommodating, kind, and welcoming. They pay very close attention to detail and are very organized, which I great appreciate. The parking, even for their central location, is a breeze, and they ensure to the greatest extend that the stay is memorable and relaxing. It is a perfect hotel for romantic getaways and solo getaways to relax and be pampered, and they do all of that just right. The breakfast is cooked-to-order, can be delivered for breakfast-in-fed, and is hot, delicious, and nutritious. They do Bed and Breakfast as an experience right and can write a book about it. They are the real thing. No joke! All of the awards and reviews are warranted, and they know it an deserve it. When planning a trip to Savannah it is important to research the area you will be staying in. My dream was to experience a different aspect of the city. A bed and breakfast sounded perfect. The Gastonian had everything I was looking for. The charm of the area are just part of the good characteristics of The Gastonian. The staff go above and beyond for their guests. They were always available to talk and suggested things for us to do. I was lucky to be in the area doing restaurant week. The foodie in me went crazy! They really make you feel like you belong and really want you to return. I had a rough time sleeping because of the Cicadas that chirped all night long. Wonderful hospitality, with all the old world charm. The staff is fantastic, the breakfasts delicious, wine and appetizers refreshing. We stayed in the Oglethorpe penthouse, super comfortable and charming. Slept like a baby. The only issue I had was showering in the cast iron tub, the wife told me to suck it up buttercup, this was the way back in the day. Our friends stayed in the Chief Tomochichi room and loved it. During our stay at The Gastonian the hotel was fully booked but, it was still relaxed and quiet. The place feels like you're a guest in a close friend's or a family member's private, fully staffed mansion. The hotel is located on a quiet street about a half mile away from the busiest areas, a nice and easy walk. The property is loaded with charm, is nicely kept, very well appointed, and clean with a lovely, unassuming staff. There's no shortage of hospitality from the moment of arrival until departure. There are refreshments constantly, they serve an included breakfast in the morning (in bed if you prefer), afternoon wine and hors d'oeuvres, and evening drinks and desserts. For a city, parking is especially easy in their private rear lot and it's the only additional (small) charge. We could not have been more pleased with our stay at The Gastonian. Room: We were lucky to have the honeymoon suite for a great deal. This room is not located in the main building which I though was great. It is an amazing room. Extremely large, clean and comfortable with fireplaces in both the bedroom and bathroom. The tub was amazing - although it took way to long to fill up it was great to soak in a bubble bath after a long day of walking. The bed was very comfortable but the nightstands are to far away from the bed. The TV is small in this room and oddly placed - very hard to watch it from bed. The toilet room is small and the door does not close all the way but this did not bother me at all. The turn down service was a treat and the room was kept clean by the staff. Food: We were pleased with the food. Each night you receive a menu to select your items for the next day. You may have a tray service delivered to your room or have your breakfast in the main house with the other guests. We chose to eat in the kitchen/dinning room and enjoyed having conversations with the other guests and the kitchen staff. Food was always cooked to order, fresh and tasty. I recommend if you can to return to the B&B and enjoy the lovely wine and snacks they provide in the afternoon as well as the cordials ans desserts in the evening. Staff: The staff was very helpful and friendly they made us feel welcomed and at home through out the stay. Location: Right in the historic district 2 blocks away from Forsyth park. Nice charming neighborhood. Good restaurants within walking distance and a very nice 15 walk to the river. We stayed in the Juliette Gordon Lowe room for our first anniversary trip and it was an amazing experience. Everyone was so incredibly friendly and helpful. I liked the breakfast menu they had every day and being able to pick what we wanted and sign up for tray service. My favorite was probably the stuffed Betty French toast. We told them it was our anniversary and they put a small bottle of champagne and a sweet card in our room, as well as sending us chocolate dipped strawberries on our last night (all complimentary!). The room was beautiful, cozy, and clean. We loved the claw foot tub and private balcony. A perfect stay for our trip. read more

The Gastonian redefines hospitality! The staff are incredibly considerate and friendly. They are always happy to help with recommendations, a refreshing beverage, or anything we needed for our room. They focus on the small details, and it shows! (A big thank you to Savannah, who brought down tea and dessert to our room after she heard of a disappointing dining experience elsewhere in town.) The rooms are decorated with antique pieces and are very comfortable. We stayed in one of the Lincoln street kings and the bathroom was huge! A jetted tub big enough for my 6'4" husband...that's impressive on its own! There was a small amount of street noise, if that is something you are sensitive to. It did not bother us at all, as there was hardly any traffic. They offer wine and appetizers in the parlor every evening, in addition to port and dessert every night. Everything was delicious. The cooked-to-order breakfasts were also stellar. I could go on and on. I can't imagine anyone not having a WONDERFUL stay at The Gastonian. We stayed in the Juliette Gordon Lowe room for our 10 year anniversary and loved our stay. The inn and Gaston Street are gorgeous! Each morning we enjoyed breakfast delivered to our private balcony overlooking a beautiful live oak moss tree. We made it to a couple of their complimentary wine and appetizer receptions, which is a great perk of staying here. The inn is very close to Forsyth Park and about a 20-25 minute walk to popular restaurants and shops on Bull Street, River Street and Broughton. It rained every day during our 4 night stay, but was nice the inn offered umbrellas which kept us dry since we walked everywhere. We also used their bicycles to ride around some of the pretty neighborhoods one afternoon, including Jones Street. The staff was very accommodating and friendly. We had an issue with the room on our last night that was out of their control and the staff went above and beyond to make up for it which we greatly appreciated. It was the definition of good, southern hospitality. We enjoyed our stay and highly recommend to others, and hope to be back again! read more

Have been visiting this extraordinary home for years during Christmas and also around May, when the Magnolias bloom. We have enjoyed many of the rooms they have and have found them all to be superb. The quality and standards are very high as to personnel, food and ambiance. We scheduled & pre paid a stay this week for three day leaving just before Xmas. We were traveling from Knoxville Tennessee after attending my Granddaughters graduation form UT. At the graduation my wife contracted Covid. We decided not to risk anyone from getting it from us. I called this hotel on Sunday while driving back to Miami, our home. A 14 hr. Drive. This was 3 days before our Wednesday arrival. I talked to a very nice person. She totally understood why I needed to cancel. Because we pre paid they usually not refund but because of my wife's Covid illness she would check with her manager Monday. I talked to her today & she would not refund my payment but we could I could give her other dates now & reschedule. Because of Covid & didn't know when we might reschedule she was not understanding. I asked her that if we come now, what would your other guest think about a Covid patient staying there & her response was that was up to us. I COULD NOT BELIEVE THAT. Risking making other guests being at risk & not bending the rules because of illness, TELLS ME A LOT about this place. read more

Be forewarned: For the rest of your life *every* hotel you stay at will *always* be held in comparison with The Gastonian. It is TRULY an unforgettable Bed and Breakfast with pampering well worth the cost. For our Honeymoon I researched to find the most romantic location to spend our FIRST night as husband and wife---I wanted a place with enchanting decor from a more noble past but not so "Anne of Green Gables" that it would be a libido turnoff. The Gastonian was the perfect combination with plenty of privacy for the blushing newlyweds! We stayed in The Carriage House which is essentially your own *private* two story brick apartment with a porcelain claw-foot tub (big enough for TWO) and a balcony on the second story with wrought iron furniture. The walls were exposed brick and the hand carved wooden bed was so high you had to use the stepping stool. It was absolutely lovely and I couldn't imagine a better place for our Honeymoon! I don't think The Gastonian can be described as merely a "Bed and Breakfast" since it also provides gourmet afternoon hors d'oeuvres and wine as well as various desserts and Cordials at the nightly reception. You feel spoiled by all the extras and attention! The staff is incredible with genuine concern about your weekend escape! In the morning you have your choice of pre-ordered breakfast delivered to your door (on a silver tray with coffee service!) or dine in the main hall. For the first morning of our Honeymoon I ordered this delicious Spinach Florentine Eggs Benedict and my husband ordered the French toast. It was luxurious to just get out of the bath, wrap up in my robe, and then have breakfast waiting for us in the sunshine. It was a beautiful spring morning on the balcony overlooking Savannah and I was there with my husband smoking his pipe! The staff really goes over and above the customer service you receive at most lodgings. While my husband slept in the next morning, I went inside the main house to get myself some coffee. One of the attentive employees greeted me, brought me a plate of scones, and invited me to sit on the couch and read a newspaper while I ate and drank. From start to finish, The Gastonian was classy, unique, and beautiful. We stayed in the Garden room, which had its own entrance and a small fountain and koi pond in our courtyard. They have a daily breakfast served by an outstanding kitchen and waitstaff. They are all so courteous and attentive. You can choose from an omelet daily, as well as changing dishes (smoked salmon and poached eggs, eggs Benedict, French toast etc). There is also an evening hor d'oeuvres and wine. My favorite was the curry chicken salad and deviled eggs. They also have an evening desert and port wine. The inn is within walking distance of many attractions in historic and downtown Savannah, ranging from a half mile to a mile or so. My only caveats are: I loved the tub and bathroom, but the tub is high and difficult to get into and out of, so elderly or disabled people should avoid this room. The other thing, totally out of the staff's control, is that our bed was EXTREMELY firm. I don't know if all rooms/suites have the same mattress. Regardless, I loved this place. The staff is really excellent and deserves all the positive recognition in the world. read more

We really enjoyed our stay but I can't get over the small things. I got that the gastonian is a historical landmark and it reflects when it was built, but I couldn't bring myself to think that we could have stayed at a chain hotel without these small issues. We stayed on the top floor of the main house in the Mary Hillyar room. The room opens up to a balcony that was built on a slant so it's actually a little scary to stand out there. I found that the room was very dusty and the floors were never cleaned properly, I wish I had brought my slippers instead of walking around Barefoot and getting my feet dirty. The breakfast was great but we never opted to go downstairs. We always asked for tray service. The Grits were unlike anything I've had anywhere else exclamation point. The first morning, I ordered eggs benedict and they only gave one piece inside of the usual too. Meaning one poached egg on one half of an English muffin. It was also a little cold. My husband had the omelet the first morning and it was phenomenal, so I ordered it for every meal after that. Because the gastonian is so popular and well known, we were able to do the old Savannah tour directly from there. We walked to Forsyth Park once straight from the hotel and we really enjoyed how close it was. The walk to River Street was a little long but we didn't mind. read more

It was my First B&B experience ever and we spent a night there. Checked in around 3, Everett the bellman took our bags to our room, "the carriage house". One of three or four of those suites. The Gastonian is one of the historic, somewhat renovated homes converted to a B&B that's also renowned for being haunted. I can't attest to any haunted experiences, but my sigfig can. He said upon entering our room, he said he thought he saw someone in the bathroom when we first arrived. In addition, after dinner, our deadbolt was locked, which according to him was not locked when we left. Patrons were couples in their mid-40s and above which was a bit of a disappointment since my sigfig and I were not that inclined to socialize. The room featured a king-sized bed, armoire, fireplace with matches, non-flat screen tv, and a large, spacious bathroom. The bathroom featured a bathtub (most likely modeled in the 70s/80s), a shower, and a large mirror on the ceiling (a bit tacky for my taste). "Happy hour" was held from 4:30-6:30 had white and red wine, cucumber tea sandwiches, chicken salad with filo cups, and veggies with a ranch dip. Soda was also available. All available on the first floor outside of the kitchen. The home beautiful with an outdoor, shaded patio area with cast iron furniture where we enjoyed the snacks. For breakfast, we were given the choice of an omelette, French toast, and a healthy option which included granola/cereal, and fruit. We opted for French toast and the omelette with all the fixings. Sides included: sausage, bacon, grits, and country potatoes. We opted for breakfast delivered to our room which was lukewarm. Grits were a bit a disappointment as they were dense and clumpy. Country potatoes were unseasoned and looked grey. Sausage was great and the French toast was tasty. Much to our surprise, following breakfast, we got locked out of our room and were only donning the comfy white terry cloth robes. Concierge happily unlocked our door. We were able to ask for a later check out (beyond 12pm) and were only granted 30min. After loading up our uber with our baggage, we received call from the Gastonian notifying us that my sigfig had left his camera and a broken watch. My wife and I have been taking a trip through the southern states and we have just stayed at "The Gastonian". This is a fine B&B with excellent service and a well maintained vintage home (actually 2 homes next to each other). The rooms are great with comfortable beds (which they make for you each day) and plenty of soft white towels displayed beautifully in the bathroom. Our room had a cozy gas fireplace, as did the other rooms that we looked in. A yummy breakfast is made to order, just for you, each morning. The location is great - we walked from the Gastonian to a great restaurant in Savannah the evening that we arrived. The next day, we walked all over Savannah looking at all sorts of beautiful sites. Can I live here forever? I think the rest of my days would be lovely if I could have a nice breakfast served in my room and eaten on a sunny balcony . Walter, Laura, and Boo are the best hotel staff members ever. The building is about 150 years old and gorgeous. You have a fireplace in your room for God sakes. It has some quirks, such as fold in doors to the bathroom that don't quite close all the way and creaky floors but it is older than everyone on the planet so that is to be expected. Those quirks can also be overlooked when you have a whirlpool tub and one of the most comfortable beds in the world. It is perfect for crashing onto after eating and drinking more than one should. The best part is enjoying delicious canapés served in the parlor where, with the assistance of our friends, Merlot, chardonnay, and white zinfandel, you and the other guests tend to get a little chatty and you find out a lot of interesting tidbits about relative strangers. If you can't get them to say something juicy at tea time try again after some port or brandy at dessert. Interesting tidbit: If you come here with a same sex friend people will assume you are gay as most people here are married couples. It is nice to know that people can be so accepting/tolerant . I'm a local hairstylist here in Savannah. I do A LOT of hair for weddings, so I've been to many b&b's for bridal hair appointments... Most b&b's I've been to don't really concern themselves with me, as I'm not a paying guest, which is understandable, I'm more like "staff". But as soon as I walked in to the Gastonian I was treated as a guest. EVERYONE greeted me and offered me water. They even had someone carry my bags to the brides room. On our way up I even got a little history/ tour of the house, which is absolutely lovely, by the way. I've never stayed at the Gastonian, but they treated me (neither staff, nor guest) with nothing less than the utmost cordiality. The brides room was huge and beautiful. It had antique furniture, historic charm, but simultaneously wasn't cluttered or outdated. We also walked through a lovely back porch area with an arbor. I've always wanted to take a "stay-cation" here in Savannah. Now I know where I'd like to stay when I do. I also know where I'll be referring people to stay when they visit. read more

It's all perfect. You can have your customized breakfast in your room, but it's more fun to eat in the kitchen. Their chef is a charming lady whose been cooking for many years. She has a wonderful banter she entertains with as she cooks. (She was off to a Food Channel audition the day after we were last there.) It's a great walk-around neighborhood, not far from downtown. I stayed at the Gastonian in March 2011 (wasn't on Yelp! at the time, so getting caught up with my reviews...this was originally posted on another site, but I'm posting here, too) and had a great time. The rooms were nice & well kept. The house was very charming. The staff was cordial and fun to talk too. Especially Calvin - he cooked the (included) breakfast. Not only did he do an outstanding job with the food, he was fun to talk too as we enjoyed breakfast. He is a true example of why Savannah is the "Hostess City of the South"! Included with the price was a very nice room (and decently sized), breakfast (with the option to eat in the kitchen or have tray service in-room), wine/h'or devours in the afternoons, and cordials in the evenings. The house is old, so expect to hear some floor-board creaking noise, but that adds to the charm. Definitely somewhere I'll stay again! read more

A wonderful establishment!! I would return here again and again and again. Hell, I'd live there if they let me!!! However, they won't and I can't see myself moving to Savannah anytime in the future. But the stay there, even as brief as it was (one night) was fantastic. -The night before we had stayed at the Riverside Inn (also comfortable and enjoyable). The reason for the change of hotel was experience and wanting to see the fireworks on the river from the room, not a crowd - So back to the Gastonian. I'm embarrased to say that it was my first time in a B&B but now it won't be my last. Why on earth anyone would stay in a Marriot or Hyatt in a place like Savannah is beyond me. You keep those places for the late night drive down 95. The Gastonian and it's employees are so pleasant, and cordial with all the southern politeness and hospitality you could ask for. The place is decorated beautifully! No hotel furniture here!! Each room's pieces have been selected and arranged in such a way that it's not over the top & gaudy and you feel like you belong in a true home of 1865. Oh...you can't beat the fireplaces in every room either! Breakfast was served to me and my sweetie in our room beneath silver trays. We had opted for that over breakfast in the kitchen just cause we were lazy following our previous day out and about. And breakfast was delish! When was the last time I had breakfast in bed??? So long ago and I can't remember when. The evening before there was wine and hors d'oeuvres in the dinning room. Of course we pretty much cleaned them out of a bottle of red! We also met a pretty cool couple from Switzerland on a big road trip down the East Coast. Seems as though they have seen more of my coast than I have! We didn't partake though in dessert and cordials later that evening. The Gastonian was just a very pleasing experience all around. Perfect for romantic couples, close to a lot of things without being right in the middle of it. Off the beaten track so to speak. If you stay here or on that side of town, it really is a great place to bring your bike! There's also pedicabs that'll pick you up. So by no means think it's location is far away from the 'action' so to speak. You couldn't be in a better spot! read more
