Called Amazing Flame; was familiar with them from having periodic service before. Nolan D was on time, set up very efficiently, worked very methodically and was very clean. He was clearly knowledgeable and experienced. Performed a full diagnostic and a very thorough service -- important for a gas appliance. Not only brought the fireplace back into original working condition, but went to some trouble to remove battery corrosion from remote control receiver and save the cost of a new one. That was an unexpected and pleasant surprise. Amazing Flame isn't cheap but the expertise and value are there.

We hired First Response Chimney for several big jobs on our 1901 farmhouse and guest cottage, and I…read morecan't recommend them highly enough. The main project was installing a new Blaze King wood stove, including a new chimney crown and relining the chimney with an insulated stainless steel liner. They also repointed and repaired the cottage chimney, relined it for a woodstove, and repointed the main house chimney. With a wood stove or fireplace, the peace of mind is everything. I never had a single doubt that the work was done safely and to code, and that's worth a lot when it's your home on the line. From start to finish they were extremely professional, reliable, and clearly knew exactly what they were doing. They also went above and beyond on the logistics. The cottage work was tricky to schedule because we had Airbnb guests booked that we couldn't cancel, and they worked around our calendar completely. They even cleaned up mid-job so the space was guest-ready at check-in. At one point the cleaners they'd lined up bailed, and the owner, William, himself drove out on a Saturday morning to handle it personally and did an incredibly thorough job. The repointing deserves special mention. A previous owner had carelessly patched the historic chimney with Portland cement, which is the wrong material for an old home. First Response ground it all out and redid it in lime mortar, matching the original and restoring it the period-appropriate way. It looks like it should- like it was never touched. And they fully cleaned up after every job.

My heat pumps were constantly running, driving my electric bill up like crazy. I purchase a brand new Hearthstone Heritage wood stove from First Response. The install was seamless. The workers themselves were professional and presented themselves as such. They went above and beyond to make sure the linear I purchased was insulated and securely fastened. I know I can sleep well at night knowing my family is safe and warm now!! Thank you First Response!!!

In June 2020 we contracted with Blue Ridge Chimney Services to reinstall a wood-burning fireplace…read moreinsert and chimney liner at our home in Winchester. The work was necessary because of the shoddy and, frankly, dangerous installation and chimney work that had been done by 1Elite Chimney LLC, a local chimney service that sold us the unit and was completely unresponsive to our repeated calls for follow-up service because they did not complete the job, the stove was not working properly and the chimney cap they had installed blew off our roof during a minor windstorm. We decided to go with Blue Ridge Chimney after a confidence-inspiring visit by Steven Slabaugh, the technician they sent at our request to evaluate the situation. On the morning of June 29, 2020, two young men from Blue Ridge Chimney, Chris Guy Jr. and Chris Smith, drove here from Harrisonburg and arrived a little after 9 am. After a quick review of our situation, they went to work. They were here until after 8 pm, working the entire time with only a short break for lunch. Their concern for our situation was evident, as was their professionalism, energy and competence. They were also friendly and engaging, and at each stage of the process they explained the problems and the work that needed to be done to fix them. I waited 9 months to write this review because the work was done in June 2020, and we did not begin using the stove and chimney until November 2020. We used it consistently until last week (March 12). The heating season is over now and the insert worked perfectly. We are very happy in general with all the dealings we have had with Blue Ridge Chimney Services, and in particular with the competent work of Chris Guy Jr. and Chris Smith. We intend to use Blue Ridge Chimney for all our future stove and chimney related work.

After having some fireplace panels replaced, I had a question about the curing process, sent some pictures to confirm the wear was normal, and the team replied very quickly explaining that what I was seeing was normal, what to look for that wouldn't be normal, and that the fireplace was safe to use. On another occasion, I had a follow up question after the first use of the fireplace of the year and they were responsive, helpful, and even sent a team member out to confirm everything was functioning properly. I would highly recommend them, I have been very impressed with their work and commitment to customers.

Fast forward 6 months (I never used the fireplace during the 6 months) and I was converting to gas logs. The gas fireplace company said I needed a chimney inspection and cleaning. I told them I had it 6 months ago - but I needed a new one. Fine. I used a different company to inspect the chimney and do some brick work. I saw the photos of the debris on the shelf and inside the chimney!! The other company removed Half of a 5 gallon bucket of debris. And they showed me a nail or screw one damper that was not secured during the first cleaning. So I am very disappointed - did JCS even do anything? Oh, and I paid double to JCS rather than the second company for the same services. TLDR: I do not recommend JCS
