We eat here multiple times a week & it never disappoints. Our favorites include .. Roasted chicken with veggies which is flavorful with a delicious glaze type topping and Mabels Fried Chicken which is always so good!! The Caesar salad is also a favorite. We order via door dash on a regular basis. Unlike some other places, the Gafford works very well with door dash and our food is always delivered hot, fresh & includes any modifications we request. Tonight, for the first time, there was a fluke & we were missing an item .. we reordered immediately - the restaurant went above and beyond to correct & apologize for the mistake. My companion and I had dinner here last night before seeing Judy Collins at the Lyric Theatre next door. Perfect spot to dine before a performance - short stroll, easy parking. I had the kale and arugula salad (see photo), which had a nice bite to it. My companion had the swordfish for an entree, I had the seared tuna. Both fish dishes were expertly prepared, with a nice salt hit, cooked to perfection. The swordfish had a kalamata olive tapenade, my tuna was wrapped in prosciutto and basil. I thought the food was spectacular for the price. I have been charged far more and not been nearly as happy with the quality. We were tempted by the deserts, but we were running out of time and appetite. Bottom line: I'd go back again in a heartbeat. read more

We came back here for Valentine's Day date night. We love this place for its intimate experience, great service and delicious food. Once again we were not disappointed. I stumbled upon the Gafford during a recent trip to Stuart and was lucky enough to get a reservation for outside seating. The service was good for the restaurant being packed. My husband had the Ricks cocktail and raves about it. We ordered the kids version of the fried chicken, all 5 guests tried it and said it was the best fried chicken they'd ever had. Including the particular 7 yr old. Other hits at our table were the cauliflower, bone in pork chop and the hangar steak. The star of the night was the meatloaf! It was a massive portion shared between my husband and I served with green beans and mashed potatoes. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. Overall great experience ! Very busy place , highly recommend to have a reservation. We booked through open table and we grabbed one of the last 2 reservations left , so if you go , please do yourself a favor and make a reservation!! We had appetizer , entree and dessert , we both ordered 2 drinks. So we split a casear salad , it was a little dry , I wish it had just a little more dressing but the cheese was delicious and the dressing it did have was great ! Entree was SUPER flavorful , I loved it. I got the pichana steak and my husband got a meatloaf, he said it was great. Both entrees came with mashed potatoes and string beans , both tasted yummy as well . The dessert , we took home and even though it tasted good , the cookies were soggy so next time , we'll def eat it there , it was a banana pudding , housemade, we honestly should of known better. We're excited to try the carrot cake though . The drinks were good as well ! You for sure get your money's worth on the alcohol, lol. Our server Nicole , was awesome !! First let me say, our original reservation was for five people. We had to add two more, so we called back and told a woman on the phone we need to change the reservation. She said no problem. Problem was, she never changed it. As it worked out, the other two didn't make it with us. When we called to let them know about the two cancels. They then told us they had us down for five people. Seating placement makes a difference. Better than the last visit. It still needs some improvement. If you're a vegetarian, you will be unhappy. Yes, they have salads. You can eat anywhere and get a salad even Burger King. They need to put a little more effort into vegetarian dishes. I ordered the same dish............ Mable's Fried Chicken. I believe it was better than the last visit. Another people in our group ordered the Pan Roasted Chicken, Scottish Salmon, and my wife ordered Roasted Pear & Arugula Salad. All were happy. We did order the Parmesan Roasted Cauliflower appetizer. Nice portion, just needed to be cooked a little longer. It was still crunchy. They brought out one order of bread and two two-ounce butter souffle cups for 5 people. Never offered more. Too bad management doesn't look through and answer reviewers. read more

I don't understand the high ratings on here. We ordered the cheeseboard (which was ok) and the roasted cauliflower (mushy) as an appetizer. They rushed the salads out with the appetizers, and didn't bother to clear anything off the table before they brought the main dishes. The ribeye was completely flavorless, the texture was like rubber, (as if it was cooked in the microwave) and the shrimp were hard and rubbery as well. The crab cakes were 95% breadcrumbs. I'm not sure but I thought this was a much higher end restaurant. It was my first time there and I found the menu to be anything but exciting. Their specialty items were just ok at best. The food was good. Service very lacking. Kim was Our server very inattentive (perhaps because we are women in our 60,s). Asked for bread and it was late. Took away when there was two pieces left. We had to order our wine from the bar as she never returned during happy hour. The ahi came with four Wong tong chips. We asked for additional and it never came. We did watch her attentiveness to other tables(single man and affluent looking couple) and it was exemplary. She also apologized and bought us a glass of happy hour wine after we called her on it. Heard great things about the restaurant. Made reservations and requested a table in the bar and were told the booth was the best, and was told our name was reserving a booth. We had a cocktail across the street, was texted the table was ready, got to the restaurant 5 minutes before our red time and no seats in the bar. I was told they do not hold reservations in the bar? They obviously do not communicate with one another. We left and went to the Black Marlin which was excellent. There were 4 of us dining. The service was very good and the food was excellent. The downfall: the tables are on top of each other. We had two girls at the table right next to us that arrived intoxicated. They both had a drink and a full bottle of wine just during their appetizer. Their conversation was extremely loud, crass and dropping the F-Bomb every other word. We could hear their entire and annoying conversation since they were so loud and obnoxious and so close. Even though our meal was good, their voices being so loud and swearing every other word made the meal so unenjoyable. We couldn't wait to get out of the restaurant since the experience was so irritating. One of the girls was constantly coughing and spitting (never covered her mouth) and because the tables were so close, my daughter felt the spray a few times. To be honest I was shocked the waiter continued serving them both liquor since one girl could just about hold up her head. Yes the food was good but the experience was a big turn off! We did say something to the waiter, he "laughed" and said yes they were loud and intoxicated but he was sorry...... I found him laughing at our comment strange. We won't go back. read more

I have no idea how this place is a 4 star on yelp. This made it on my top 5 best restaurants I've eaten at. I've traveled all around the US and so it's not like I've been stuck in a small town all my life. Jeez where to start... let's just say every piece of food we received was cooked perfectly, seasoned beautifully, and tasted phenomenal. We made a reservation for Christmas Eve as me and my fiancé were new to the area and don't know anyone. For anyone who didn't like there food just send it my way. I think the restaurant is pretty overrated and underwhelming. Every time I come here I wish I hadn't. We came once for my birthday and they screwed up the reservation and they were super rude about it. We called three days prior to update the headcount as another person was able to come they said they couldn't honor our reservation with an additional person and they could offer us a reservation an hour later so we said no problem and rearranged our schedule. Some of us got there early and were having drinks at the bar and they were trying to pressure us to be seated at our original reservation time since someone no showed. Food took forever and wasn't very good. I was mostly unimpressed. My second visit left me with a similar impression. The bills got all messed up our party was crammed into this tiny corner booth and we were rushed out. There are so many other better options out there. read more

The service was great; our server was very attentive and knowledgeable. We sat by the open kitchen, which was very lively and fun to see. But the real star of the show here is the food. We had the roast chicken with apricot jam-- so good! We also had the macadamia encrusted snapper-- one of the most delicious things we've ever had. Very well done!
