More of a 3.5 stars. This is a lively bar right on the corner of Rue de Denis. The highlights are the atmosphere with festive vibe, and the service. All the servers who interacted with us were terrific - gracious, friendly, helpful. They even checked in to make sure we didn't want to order another drink before happy hour ended. As a microbrew, my husband deemed the beers he sampled as "good, but we have better at home". We do hail from an area that is "the Napa Valley of craft breweries", so our bar is high. My cocktail was standard. Enjoyable. As for food, my Summer Salad was a nice break and felt healthy. My husband though his gosh and chips were just okay and a bit skimpy on the fish. At €15 for the main courses, it felt overpriced for the value/quality of the food. That said, it's a perfectly fine place to hang out for a drink, especially for travelers wanting a break from traditional French food. While we chose to sit inside, it's a great patio for people watching, too. read more

Great British-style pub. The wait staff are friendly, except for one dude who couldn't care less about working here. That waiter ignored us, but the other younger waiter came by often. Cute little micro brewery and gastro pub. They brew all their own beer downstairs seemingly next to the toilets. But don't let the location of that put you off too much. None of the beer tastes of urinal cakes or indeed of urine that I have so tasted. I'm willing to taste more for you the reader of you so wish. I would hate to see you avid review readers suffer in any way. As in all things Paris you will pay a fair bit for your pint, but it's worth it. You can try a sampler to see which beer you prefer before trying a pint. But what serious beer drinker actually does that? If you are friendly with your waiter, they may decide to take you on a brief tour of the brewery. Alas to my downfall I am not by nature a friendly person:( I can't say much or indeed anything for the food, as this was just a place to wet our whistle before heading back to our air b&b. Although I came at a quiet time of the day on this occasion, the Ginger Twist still tasted like possibly the best beer I have ever had and the place still had a great feel to it. Unfortunately some of the pictures of people I knew have been taken down nowbut time goes by, what can you do? It's good for football and its good for Saturday nights. English enough to attract expats, but not so one dimensional that locals are put off (this is particularly true during the 6 nations rugby when the pub is half French, half whichever British country they happen to be playing). I know some people are averse to English or Irish pub in a foreign land. Sometimes I agree but in a place like Paris there are plenty of French bars and cafes if that's what you want, this place just adds to the choice and the variety on offer. Negative points? Well the Rue St Denis is a little seedy and the pub gets very busy sometimes, that's all I can think of. read more

We decided to give this restaurant a chance because it was on the strip of the area we were staying at in France the process was quick to sit down is dark low lighting and had a cool vibe however as soon as got our food my brother noticed 2 mice next to our table they were eating the food that had fallen from our table and as soon as we noticed this we asked for the check and left quickly which was a shame because the food didn't taste bad but the mice situation was a complete turn off who knows what we really ate read more

Short review: Nothing wrong with this if you are looking for a Pub in Paris. Long(er) review: The Frogpubs are a chain of Pubs with (so far) 7 Installments in Paris (and 2 in other French Cities), mainly catering to English speaking clientel. They brew their own beers and offer typical pub-food. The Beers are a bit hit and miss for me. The Food isn´t exiting but competently made. The staff were really nice the two times I have been there at the Rue Saint-Denis Incarnation of Frogpubs. Atmosphere-wise - it is just a pub. It´s not particularly charming or innovative. Some wood tables, some wood chairs, some football on the telly. It´s a pub. Not the greatest thing ever, nor terrible. Sit down, have a beer, watch football, eat a burger. It´s not fancy, it´s nothing special - just a pub. And there is nothing wrong with that. read more

3.5 stars. Went here because it was the only place I could find in Paris that was showing the Klitschko-Haye fight (which incidentally turned out to be a horrible snoozer). Nice roomy setup with a wall projector and a couple large flatscreens. The bartender was British and you could definitely get by easily here if you didn't speak French. The one major drawback was that the only drafts offered are the house brews, which aren't the best. However, it's a bar, it showed what I wanted to see, and the service was sufficient, so I'll go 3.5 stars. read more

Well... the name... You have to love the place ! It makes me smile every time :) Typical pub where you'll find easy going people. During sunny day, you can even take advantage of their outside tables on a relatively quite street. Also, it's a great bar to hang out during soccer games though it might get crowded. Where to get your English pub fix when in Paris. The food's mediocre; the beer's rather good (with a lot of locally brewed ales on tap); the service pretty good; and the location incredibly central. With tons of top restaurants and bars in and around the pub's Montorguei location, it's a top choice for evening meet ups. The casual atmosphere helps too. It can be difficult to find the right place to gather in Paris when you take into account different people's tastes and interests. English-theme brew-pub in Paris. This place is the original one in the FrogPubs chain of brew-pubs in France. Their beers, which are brewed on the premises, are very good but very expensive. They have a range of six: Frog Natural Blonde, Maison Blanche, Ginger Twist, Inseine, Dark de Triomphe and Parislytic (my favourite is Ginger Twist). I think I paid EUR6 for a pint (yes, they serve it in pint glasses). You can get four-pint jugs for EUR20 (I think, but not certain), and there is a happy hour. (Prices as of March 2008.) They have fascinating diagram on the wall showing the brewing process. They also do quite reasonable food, all from a simple, standard menu. The last meal I tried was Chicken Tikka Masala (for some perverse reason I decided to have England's national dish in Paris instead of trying a French restaurant) it was quite competently done, though there weren't all the options you'd expect in an English curry house, such as a range of pickles, raita etc. Overall, the food's got a Wetherspoon's feel to it, though a bit better done. I've been there five or six times. Most of the customers seem to be French, but a fair number of Brits come in. You will often find a copy of the Sun or the Times left on the window ledge by the bar. When there are TV news reports about Brits/English in Paris, especially during sporting competitions, they often use this pub as the background. The toilets (downstairs) are good. Outside are a few tables and chairs if you want to smoke or watch the world go by. My only real gripe is the TVs that constantly showing sports events (Formula 1, tennis, football, rugby). However, usually the sound is off or quite low. Free wi-fi. If you stay right to closing time, you can expect to be hurried out (though that's not unreasonable at something like 01:30 if there's only two of you and the staff want to get home). The staff are very competent and pleasant, they don't flinch if you address them in English, and seem comfortable with Brits. read more

this place is a real actual bar in Paris! and its open late! Being a new yorker really gets you spoiled when it comes to night life and drinking to hang out late. There are really no such thing as a "bar" in paris. Just cafes where you can drink at a table (and no one is really socializing) or some super cheezy mega club where the music is way too loud and people are.... dancing? No. I don't dance, I drink. So this place is a pretty cool spot to just drink. They have a really good cocktail menu with some very interesting blends. I was in love with their beer cocktails. This was the only bar we could find near the seine so we came back twice! It's fairly large, lots of tables, fully stocked bar, mostly students and locals, but they speak english. First of all, this is the place to go if you need somewhere to watch some kind of sports event in Paris. It was incredibly busy when I went there because of the Rugby game, but that's no-one's fault. The beer here is great, and the best thing about this place is (as a foreigner to France) it's great for meeting French people who can speak English. I at first was worried about being in a 'English-style' pub in Paris but it just meant I got to interact with French people who were willing to speak English and have a good time. Cool bar. I harbor a virulent dislike for chains, which some would say is irrational, but every once in a while a place comes up to prove my theory that chains/franchises/"grandes enseignes" serve no actual purpose other than to make the owners/shareholders/corporate sponsors rich. What was once a love of craft or other higher calling becomes mass produced, faceless bullshit. Case in point: The Frog Pubs. Their origin story is cute (two MBA students decided to make English-style beer in France) and their beers are halfway decent -if wildly inconsistent and overpriced -but I'll never set foot into their establishments again. Why? Their unapologetically fucktarded service is a strikeout. Strike one: Some visiting friends from the US wanted to chillax on a balmy Parisian afternoon. We grabbed a table on the terrasse and awaited the server. A couple of jugs were ordered, and we selected a few snacks from the bar menu. "Sorry, the kitchen doesn't open until 4:00" (I don't remember the time exactly, but it was the top of the upcoming hour.) "Well, it's 3:58, could you just take the order?" "No, but I'll come back in fifteen minutes, ok?" Obviously not mathematically inclined, this young turk. But whatever -the tasty jug of Parislytic and the unfortunately skunky jug of InSeine would hold us over until garçon over here finished his remedial math lesson. Strike two: 10:45 PM after a long train trip back into Paris. The lady and I decided we could go for some pub food and a cold pint or three. We're seated and handed menus and given place settings. After some foot-tapping and grumbling, the waitress returns at 11:05. "Can I take your order?" Finally. "Yes, I'll have the chicken --" "Sorry, the kitchen closes at 11:00." "But you.. we... but..." "We do still have beer." "Fuck you. We're outta here." Strike three: Despite previous misgivings, we decided to go back to the Frog because I really wanted beer and my wife really wanted fish & chips. Along with all that, we also got a surprisingly good cheeseburger. The meal was tasty, the blonde beer in a rare state of deliciousness, and we were happy knowing we could burn our Cheques Vacances (essentially, gift certificates). We knew this because we asked the waitress before sitting down if we could spend them there. She said yes, of course they take them! Lo and behold, a shift change occurs during our repast, and upon trying to pay the bill with said Cheques, the new waiter says, "We don't accept those." "But I cleared it with the previous waitress." "Well, she was wrong." My wife, upset because we specifically went someplace we could use these stupid certificates, gets on her iPhone to email the FrogPubs management to let them know that she's disappointed with the service, and that she'll also warn her friends away from coming back. The response? No apology, no pithy "sorry for the confusion," but rather some snarky line telling us to tell our friends they should bring their credit cards. Well, I'm telling my 450+ Yelp friends, 300+ Twitter friends and 350+ Facebook friends (that's over 1100 friends if you're as slow on the uptake as the first waiter) just that: Bring your credit cards! Bring them to The Thistle across the way if you want a classic pub atmosphere with footy on the TV and much faster service. Bring them to La Cave à Bulles maybe 700m away if you want French microbrews that are consistently good. Bring them to Au Trappiste (down Saint-Denis near Rivoli) for some excellent French and Belgian brews on tap. As far as the Frog goes, they're not worth your credit cards or your cash, even if that's all they're interested in nowadays. read more

A great pub for the football- went for the arsenal Chelsea match yesterday. That being said- it gets proper rammed really quickly so get in a good hour before kick off if you want a table. Nice beers on draft at reasonable prices- I had a cheeky IPA which went down a treat at about 6.50 - if i remember rightly! The food is good and filling! The Frog is an English pub near Les Halles in Paris. It's the place to be whenever England are playing, whether it's rugby or football, and the atmosphere during games is superb. It really does feel like a traditional pub. The food isn't bad either. The beers, most of which are brewed inhouse, aren't great. Generally, prices are quite high, but they're worth it for the atmosphere when you want to be among fellow Englishmen. read more
