As others have said- it's a very understated brasserie that delivers delightful meals, easily located across from the west end of the gare de lyon. We were pleasantly surprised by the level of detail in the dishes. Even standard plates likes steak hache' had an extra touch like house made mayonaise and the frites had house made "cocktail sauce"- aka ketchup for Americans. I had the filet in the beer sauce-- amazing. Our server was very attentive- she made sure that my girls (who had never travelled internationally) were comfortable. Wonderful little casual spot near Gare de Lyon! Walking distance from our hotel, and we stopped our last night in Paris for drinks and a quick dinner - you cannot go wrong! I suggested B that he should try some French Beers. French are known for their wines but not so much for their beers. I mean there are good German and other good beers imported into French at a reasonable price so why would they concentrate so much in making beer. But I insisted and I believed that somewhere there must be some craft beer places. I looked and googled and found Express de Lyon. This place is not quite a craft beer place.They don't have the big vat and they don't make beer here. THIS IS A PUB. Well... I mean we are in Paris. What do we expect? A place that make their own beer and serve their own beer. No.. Real Estates here are pricy. Ok.. So Express de Lyon offers beer from around France but also beer from else where. B ordered 4 different glasses of beer with one from America (that was a mistake order). I had tried every one of them too. Note: I am not a beer person so I can't tell between a good beer and a not so good one. To me all beer tasted like barf. But I am not saying they are not good beer, it is just my taste buds. So B ordered: -Dark Cherry Chocolate -La Mer Rouge -Chimay -Saison Dupont He liked them every one of them. So the kinds of beer that they offer here are more tailored to the popular tastebuds. What I mean here... is that they serve beer that will suite the general populations. You won't find beer that would have the weird kick or a weird extreme taste. This place also serves food after 5 pm. The place does get very busy. The good part is that ordering drinks here they offers free peanuts. They were good peanuts too. Service was great. Great low key spot by our hotel, very much a locals spot. The staff was nice and attentive. The beers and burgers are amazing, as well as the other menu items. Stopped by a couple of times during our week stay. They do charge double the price for beers if you're a tourist- or for having table service? Not sure which one because we even tried ordering at the bar and still got double charged. Not mad about it, just a heads up. Would definitely return next time I'm back! read more

Popped in here with my girlfriend after a chateau tour (and before our train at Gare de Lyon). Great craft beer selection and standard pub food at a good price. Totally one of my new fav spots. I love it because it's a place that's not trying to be 'cool'. It's just a simple brasserie filled with normal people who just feel like drinking a good beer. On tap they've got many many beers: local microbrews (Brasserie Outland) and also more well known craft breweries like Rogue and Brooklyn breweries, as well as the big name classics. It's really reasonably priced, and not a pompous place at all. I highly suggest it for a beer or five out for a good chat. A total hole in the wall right in front of the Gare de Lyon. read more

My favorite dive bar in Paris... Ok my favorite bar period. The storefront does not look like much, but inside is a hidden gem. This bar seems like it is just another "PMU" i.e. a sleezey "loto" bar where you can place bets on sports and horse racing.... BUT the secret is, the owner is a huge beer geek. For me, this is a real Paris bar (well... except there is amazing beer): you have the local flavor, the die hard gamblers sipping on a Heineken, beer nuts (expats and francophones) from around the city trying the lastest microbrew on tap, tourists drinking the classic Belgians (like Chouffe or Karmeliet or worse...Amstel!!), and even some travelers passing through who stopped by while they wait for their train at the Gare de Lyon. Originally, there was already an amazing selection of Belgian beers (most of the Trappists and some other classics as well) at extremely reasonable prices. However, due to a newly found passion for malt and hops, the owner has begun to introduce a variety of European and even some French (the French make good beer? YES! well a few do at least...) micro- and craft-brews on tap or in bottles. To be honest, you will not find the same selection for anywhere near the price anywhere else in Paris. Plus, you can get a nice plate of charcuterie and cheese to munch while you sip! Or just load up on unlimited free peanuts and save your euros for the tasty brewskies. They also have a small selection of real food (pasta, steak, etc.) if you get hungry but can't find a way to leave... Two thumbs up! read more

Express de Lyon is my new favorite bar in Paris! Having recently moved here from California, I've been really missing good craft beer. Express de Lyon has a great rotating selection of beer on tap, with the full range from light and sweet to strong and bitter. I was especially happy to try some great IPAs, which are hard to come by in France. My husband had an imperial stout and a porter which were also very good. The service was good and it wasn't too loud or crowded (but it was also a Wednesday night). read more

Be warned, if you dont speak french, they'll charge you the salle price if you sit at the bar. Besides that, decent selection of beers on tap, prices are good for 25cl of beer. Difference between the bar and salle is 60c. But i guess they needed the extra 60c extra from each drink while i was sitting at the bar. Why do that when for so little gain? As to why i didnt argue the price? Im hoping this review goes further then their gain of 2 euros. read more

This was my favorite craft beer sport during a week-long visit to Paris - I visited it 4 of my 7 days in Paris. There are so many positives to this unassuming craft beer bar. Express de Lyon is located near a metro stop making it easily accessible from any part of Paris. FREE and reliable WiFi ... gotta have this when posting check-ins on Untappd. Chill crowd ... this is very much a locals place which I really enjoyed ... not obnoxious tourists getting drunk, just a nice and respectable local clientele. Didn't see any kids, so I wouldn't classify it as family friendly. The craft beer selections were outstanding ... the tap list rotates frequently ensuring always something new and fresh. The food is solid ... pretty broad range of food items making this places ideal for a quick snack or a full blown lunch / dinner. The prices here are a steal compared to other Paris craft beer spots ... by far this is the most inexpensive place in Paris to purchase craft beers. At the time of my visit the owner was working behind the bar ... he was support cool, friendly and we talked a lot about the rising craft beer scene in Paris ... he allowed me to try various samplers before I committed to a full pint. Express de Lyon definitely flies under the radar ... but I highly recommend visiting this place and enjoying several well priced pints in an extremely enjoyable atmosphere. read more

Was so excited to check out this place, great beer selection, but the bartender took advantage of the fact that I was a 'tourist' and charged me double for 50cl, when the actual cost on the board was much less. As much as I love La Fine Mousse, every once in a while I find myself somewhere in Paris where I'm just too lazy to find a way to get to line 3, but still want to have some great beer. So I usually end up here (though every time I leave Gare de Lyon, I realize the time spent trying to find the right exit probably would have taken just as much time to go out to LFM). Its not quite a sports bar (though they do have many tvs and businessmen gathered after work to watch whatever event is going on), definitely not a dive bar by American standards but possibly by French standards, and mostly your typical casual brasserie. They have 15 beers on tap, which is phenomenal for Paris, though I've found between 5 and 7 of them are your more traditional French/Belgian options for those guests who don't come here for the beer. Those other 8-10 taps, however, are used for some of the hardest beer to come across in Paris- Mikkeller, Evil Twin, Brewdog, Rogue, de Molen, and local Parisian/French breweries as well. Prices start at around 3,50€ for a demi and pints can be ordered for a little less than the cost of two demis. The bartenders are all friendly and enthusiastic about beer, and I love that they have fries available for order because after two or three beers I usually start craving them. The only reason why this place doesn't get 5 stars is because I'm really not a huge fan of the sports watchers and the atmosphere that it creates. When I go out with my friends for beer, I prefer to talk and spend time with them without all the distractions of an audience. read more

This place rocked it for me. As a recovering beer geek with a 3 hour layover at Gare de Lyon I loved finding this gem of a place. Bottom line: Excellent service (and for an American no less!), very knowledgeable on the international beer scene, fantastic rillettes sandwich with cornichons - all at a great price. Nice craft beer selection. Friendly staff. Upon entering I could tell this is more of a place to socialize and grab a beer with some friends than a place to have dinner but the food is really good. What other sports bar could you have pan seared rabbit with potatoes escalope and a nice salad. Most of us are used to wings and fried something or other. This was a nice relaxing treat.
