Was really skeptical walking into the place but omg the food was great, service was awesome and we wish we would have stopped in earlier. We'll definitely be back when we stay in the area

My husband and I recently took a trip to Paris and this was the very first place we came. Had just gotten off from a long flight and had dinner reservation for later, so we just needed a drink and some food. We were greeted by a very nice bartender who understood our attempts to speak French and helped us order. Beers were great and food was also.

I suggested B that he should try some French Beers. French are known for their wines but not so much for their beers. I mean there are good German and other good beers imported into French at a reasonable price so why would they concentrate so much in making beer. But I insisted and I believed that somewhere there must be some craft beer places. I looked and googled and found Express de Lyon. This place is not quite a craft beer place. They don't have the big vat and they don't make beer here. THIS IS A PUB. Well... I mean we are in Paris. What do we expect? A place that make their own beer and serve their own beer. No.. Real Estates here are pricy. Ok.. So Express de Lyon offers beer from around France but also beer from else where. B ordered 4 different glasses of beer with one from America (that was a mistake order). I had tried every one of them too. Note: I am not a beer person so I can't tell between a good beer and a not so good one. To me all beer tasted like barf. But I am not saying they are not good beer, it is just my taste buds. So B ordered: -Dark Cherry Chocolate -La Mer Rouge -Chimay -Saison Dupont He liked them every one of them. So the kinds of beer that they offer here are more tailored to the popular tastebuds. What I mean here... is that they serve beer that will suite the general populations. You won't find beer that would have the weird kick or a weird extreme taste. This place also serves food after 5 pm. The place does get very busy. The good part is that ordering drinks here they offers free peanuts. They were good peanuts too. Service was great. I do highly recommend coming here. They offers good selections of beer.

This is a very nice bar. The beer selection was good and so was the food. The staff was very courteous. It is a good place to relax and have some nice pints.

Great low key spot by our hotel, very much a locals spot. The staff was nice and attentive. The beers and burgers are amazing, as well as the other menu items. Stopped by a couple of times during our week stay. They do charge double the price for beers if you're a tourist- or for having table service? Not sure which one because we even tried ordering at the bar and still got double charged. Not mad about it, just a heads up. Would definitely return next time I'm back!

Totally one of my new fav spots. I love it because it's a place that's not trying to be 'cool'. It's just a simple brasserie filled with normal people who just feel like drinking a good beer. On tap they've got many many beers: local microbrews (Brasserie Outland) and also more well known craft breweries like Rogue and Brooklyn breweries, as well as the big name classics. It's really reasonably priced, and not a pompous place at all. I highly suggest it for a beer or five out for a good chat. A total hole in the wall right in front of the Gare de Lyon.

My favorite dive bar in Paris... Ok my favorite bar period. The storefront does not look like much, but inside is a hidden gem. This bar seems like it is just another "PMU" i.e. a sleezey "loto" bar where you can place bets on sports and horse racing.... BUT the secret is, the owner is a huge beer geek. For me, this is a real Paris bar (well... except there is amazing beer): you have the local flavor, the die hard gamblers sipping on a Heineken, beer nuts (expats and francophones) from around the city trying the lastest microbrew on tap, tourists drinking the classic Belgians (like Chouffe or Karmeliet or worse...Amstel!!), and even some travelers passing through who stopped by while they wait for their train at the Gare de Lyon. Originally, there was already an amazing selection of Belgian beers (most of the Trappists and some other classics as well) at extremely reasonable prices. However, due to a newly found passion for malt and hops, the owner has begun to introduce a variety of European and even some French (the French make good beer? YES! well a few do at least...) micro- and craft-brews on tap or in bottles. To be honest, you will not find the same selection for anywhere near the price anywhere else in Paris. Plus, you can get a nice plate of charcuterie and cheese to munch while you sip! Or just load up on unlimited free peanuts and save your euros for the tasty brewskies. They also have a small selection of real food (pasta, steak, etc.) if you get hungry but can't find a way to leave... Two thumbs up!

Nice place to grab a bite. Big list of micro-brews from Europe and some from the U.S. I had a pork dish with potatoes. It was good, but not very inspiring. A neighboring group had a board of cheese and dried meats that looked really good, as well.

From the outside it looks like any other Brasserie but inside it is a casual bar atmosphere with the highest quality and variety of beer selections.

In parting, the waiter gave me a recommendation for another fine beer bar in Paris: La Fine Mousse.

There is a great selection of beers from around the world though the majority of options are from Belgium. We didn't eat, but we were given a bowl of olives to enjoy while we drank. I needed somewhere to watch some soccer and was walking around and stumbled upon Le Sous Bock. Well. Every other bar/brasserrie was showing the games in French which was ok because I can speak the language but I wanted to hang out with english speaking people. Le Sous Bock was actually showing the game in English and the place was packed. Started coming back here almost every day afterwards to have a beer or two or three. The waitresses here were pretty and had english accents. Not really Irish ones but hey, I'm sure a frenchman wouldn't know the difference. Never actually tried the food but they have your classic Irish grub which was not really that appealing to me when there are french sandwich/baguettes close by which are delicious. The atmosphere is a little dark but the people in there are friendly.

Right off the bat, the bouncers were incredibly rude, it seemed like none of them wanted to let us into the club and kept adding requirements and fees before they let us enter. Compared to other clubs and bars in the area, it was not a friendly atmosphere and we were not made to feel welcome. We did not feel comfortable having alcoholic drinks because we did not feel safe or that the staff would prioritize our best interests, and while there were many bouncers we in no way felt protected and we were consistently talked down to by them. After several terrible interactions we decided to leave, at which point they acted surprised that we weren't enjoying ourselves. We made a point of reaching out to a manager which is when we met Julien, and while he agreed that we weren't intoxicated or causing any problems he was not willing to address the issues we brought up. We wanted to make it clear that we went there fully intending to spend money and that it was due to the actions and abrasive behaviour of his staff that we did not which he did not seem to care about. We have never been treated so poorly by an establishment, and it left a bad taste in our mouths for the evening. I would never recommend anyone go here, and in fact, would warn people to stay away. The following day we began reading reviews and realized that this was not an isolated incident and that similar encounters have been happening to potential patrons for many years. After speaking to some locals we found out that the club has a reputation for being problematic, and that the people who work there do so because they know they can do whatever they want and still get a paycheck with no risk of repercussions for poor behaviour. Through their lack of action, they have shown that they do not care about the concerns involving their patron's safety and do not intend on making any changes.
