Amazing Scottish bar we stayed all night at. They played the Super Bowl and it had an amazing turnout with a great crowd. They have events every single night like trivia, open mic night, etc. Standard Scottish beer selection but fun snacks like hot dogs and popcorn too which were popular. Bar tenders speak English which helps if you are a tourist. Open until 5am daily. Would...WILL...return! read more

Great, no frills pub to cool down, grab a drink, and watch some sports! The bartender had no problem switching the TV to the Formula 1 race since no one was watching the current game in the bar area. Drinks were made well and the bartender was very helpful. she spoke fluent French and fluent English. Highly recommend if you want a bit of a break from the tourism and just want to catch up on some sports. read more

Definitely becoming a fan of the Highlander, where the covert expat masses come for pints and pigskin :) On NFL Sundays, the Highlander offers special prices on pints and well drinks, as well as a big-screen projection of the game(s). The board in the alley (which reminds me a bit of Diagon Alley?) boasts a trivia night, but I've never stuck around for that. Definitely a great little dive bar, and if you're looking for a Sunday football fix, come down and say "hi" -- I'll be the girl drinking too many €5 Pelfours. read more

LOVE this place. Conveniently located just off the Pont Neuf, it's an ex-pat joint with mostly Brits and Scots behond the bar. A tiny pub upstairs, and a more spacious party area downstairs, tucked under an archway in a completely atmospheric location. We just do the Olds Folks thing at the upstairs bar, so I can't review the downstairs - but I do know there's live music, and party atmo. The place opens NO EARLIER than 4:00pm, thank you very much. Do I feel pathetic hanging about in the Rue Nevers, waiting for someone to open the door and put the sign out? I do not! Because I love this place! The pints are very reasonably priced, and that's a Pretty Big Deal in Paris. They serve cocktails, as well, and there's generally a special on. TVs carry futbol (soccer, footie) rugby, etc. You're always offered a little ramekin (or three) of nuts or crackers to go with your bevvie. And they carry the most amazingly delicious beer - Calendonian - that I've never had anyplace else. Caledonian - medium caramely brown - has a pale ivory head and tastes of.... well - we've discussed it here, and the consensus is that there's an iced tea-ness to the flavor, but that it also almost tastes chocolatey! It is DELICIOUS. Not heavy - very refreshing. And not hoppy at all. Love, love, love. The bar staff we have met have always been very friendly and helpful. We've made Facebook friends here, have gotten wicked good restaurant recommendations, and one night the manager (who was tending bar) shared a box of her personal stash of DECADENT little chocolates with me. Finally, let's be frank. I speak French, but it isn't my first language. Sometimes sitting down and ordering a pint in English, and having a little craic (did I just say that!??!?!?! am I a complete wanker?!?!?) in your native tongue is just relaxing. It's not easy to find The Highlander. This pub is hidden in one of the shortest streets on the Left bank not far from the Pont Neuf. It's quite small but the atmosphere is cozy and very friendly. The staff is made of native English speakers. The clientele is mixed with Parisians and expats. It's quite easy to talk to new people here. They have 25 different kinds of whisky and their Happy Hour is from 5 to 8 pm. There's a little dance floor downstairs where you can listen to old and new. And what's more, it's open until 5 am even during week days. read more

Okay okay... yes, during my most recent visit to Paris, I spent a meal in a Scottish Pub; but hear me out, because the experience was an excellent one. Star 1: How was the service and atmosphere? Wonderful. Sure, Parisian dining culture is sexy and romantic and the like, but sometimes? You just want a good ole' fashioned pub, and that's exactly what you'll get here at the Highlander. Step through the pub door brilliantly positioned off of Pont Neuf and you might as well be in Scotland. That's exactly what I was looking for in terms of an atmosphere to watch Andy Murray win Wimbledon (which he did), and the service and personnel made the experience exponentially better. Star Granted. Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost? I can't speak to a personal experience as far as ordering food, but prices were reasonable considering you're smack dab in the center of Paris. Star Granted. Stars 3 and 4: How was the food? Again, while I only had a few beers to compliment viewing of the tennis match, I did sample my mate's burger. It was good, but could have been spiced up a bit. Single Star Granted. Star 5: Would you eat here every day if you could? You know, it wasn't the best food I've ever had, but this particular event was so special (watching Murray win Wimbledon) that I can't not have this locked up as one of my favorite moments of my trip to Paris. Much better on the inside than on the out, this bar has two floors! A regular bar and seating area as you walk in, and another bar and seating area below in the basement! Both English and French is spoken here, and one needn't be bashful about not knowing any French! The drinks are good and moderately priced, particularly during happy hour. Glorious pub! Well ain't this perfectly quaint, a Scottish Pub in a little alley just off the Notre Dame. They needn't all be Irish! There was a game on and it was quite busy, but with a good atmosphere. Had me a Scottish stout and noticed that they had a vast range of Scottish malts. Only minor drawback was the proliferation of French, but I guess that can't be avoided in Paris. read more

If you want to spend a really good evening / night in Paris, The Highlander is a great place to start: - perfectly located (right by the Ile de la Cité, downtown Paris). - really comfortable (at least if you got a chance to catch the comfy seats just at your left when you enter the pub). - large enough, but not too much. The sissie, bro, and I had been in Pair-ee about 4 days and were sort of bummed about the rudeness of some Parisians and their attitudes toward us Yanks! And forget about getting a drink (a glass of water even) in less than 30 minutes. Service is practically non-existent (unless your a native maybe?). On a whim we searched for nearby "Pubs" on our GPS and was led to this gem! The Highlander is easy to miss, on a narrow street more like a back alley. On a dark and misty night it, it made us almost re-think our choice for fear of being the 2 American girls accosted and forced into a white van by men wearing ski masks and being "taken" to do God knows what. OK, I watch too many movies... On to the review of this place. It's great. No, really. The bartender made us feel welcome as soon as we entered (duh, she wasn't Parisian) and we soon learned this is a spot where people who (GASP) don't speak French like to come and hang out! Ambiance is nice, cozy, and pub-ish. Both of the drinks we had were really good. And, there was even a Native there (a regular), and his big ole friendly dog, who didn't suck his teeth or roll his eyes at us ;-) We were totally winning that night! read more

I love the Highlander for going a-wassailing, for dancing stupidly without feeling self conscious, and for hanging out with happy drunk people. i'm scottish and really rather proud of it...so when we stumbled across this place on our most recent adventure to paris, we decided to check out happy hour. the canadian (i think) girl behind the bar was nice - friendly and chatty if you wanted it. the drink menu at happy hour was okay, especially considering its location. the cocktails are not great, buuuut for 5euros i guess they do the job! cans of irn bru for 3.50euros makes me want to weep, but i guess if you're in paris and desperate for some of scotland's life blood, it's good to know you can get it here! there was nothing very scottish about this bar, but it was nice to take a break from slaughtering the french language (sorry, you are so pretty, i wish i could speak you a little nicer!) and just relax over a drink or two! read more
