Came upon Mazet by accident and was drawn in by their sign that said Happy Hour. It's an English pub where you can speak English and they will speak English back. Don't get me wrong, I love the French language and I tried using it with my limited and bad pronunciation during my week in Paris but it was nice to walk into a place where I could carry a conversation without pointing and acting out what I need. It was a relaxing place that serves a very cold and full pint to quench your thirst. During the Happy Hour, you can include a meat pie with the beer for a deal of a price ($8 Euros, I think). The pub has friendly service and friendly customers, good music and several tv's around broadcasting tennis, rugby, Tour de France, or whatever happens to be in season at the time your there. There are couches if your prefer to sit more comfortably or if you come in with a large group. There's always something fun planned during the weeknights. I've been trying to decide what I should review for my 100th review, and the clear winner is the Mazet, the friendliest bar in Paris! We first found the Mazet on the first day of our first trip to Paris. It was a happy, welcoming and friendly place and we spent an hour there chatting with Jerry and Jenna, the bartenders. They gave us great tips for the city. We ended up returning there for a drink every night. It was just a great place to hang. They had live music several times and soccer/rugby on the TV. Good (and cold beer) and great cocktails. Perfect for drinks after dinner at the end of the evening. On our second trip we again dropped by on our first day and met Nola & Cynthia, two more great bartenders. And all these guys love shooters! It's impossible to get out without doing at least a couple. They have savory pies for sale if you get peckish but they don't mind if you bring in food from outside either. The location is convenient for post Notre Dame/Louvre, Orsay hydration, or post St Germaine shopping. And if you've had a less than perfect day the folks at the Mazet will bring a smile to your face Great bartenders, great atmosphere, live music, friendly people, seriously, after 15 minutes here you're thinking Vive La France! read more

If you're from an Anglophile country and under age 25, this place will warm the cockles of your English-speaking heart. The patrons are young and not particularly well-mannered, and most of them are tourists looking for an escape from French culture. There are a smattering of locals in here, but I'd say the majority inside were exchange students, Americans studying abroad and travelers from Australia or Canada. The bartenders are English and clearly looking more to have a good time than provide stellar service. That's ok, the bar in general is fun with an upbeat atmosphere, just nothing very remarkable or French about it. Guinness was under-average. Tried a couple of mixed drinks and found them to be less than mediocre as well. Loud American music and lots of students doing shots. Overall, an okay place to grab a drink if you're in the area, but I wouldn't go out of my way to go here. I can see how it could turn into the favorite "local" for English-speakers abroad. If you want a more authentic French student experience, head down over to Le Quartier Latin and rue Mouffetard. If you want more of a French bar experience, keep walking past this place - there are other wineries and pubs in the area that are not as touristy as this one. read more

The Mazet has the feel of a once-great expat bar and I would describe the atmosphere these days as hit or miss. You could have the time of your life or you could be the only people in the bar! Despite this the bar can't be faulted for its great location and cheap drinks. I've fallen foul of the dangerous Ladies Night deal before: 1 Shot + 1 Cocktail for a fiver - ludacrously cheap for Paris. Another plus point is that they have live music on a regular basis, the quality of which is usually good. But coupled with the fact that it may be a quiet night, the live music can sometimes fall flat. I would recommmend giving it a shot and if you want to make it a stop on the way to another expat bar, you're close to The Moose, Coolins or The Frog & Princess. Great, relaxed English pub, located in a very beautiful (and very Parisian) alley / mews in the Latin Quarter. Nice setting will a laid back vibe, this is a nice place to sit and people watch, or to come with a small group. Very friendly bartenders seem to know a good number of the patrons, and are very friendly for a chat. Highly recommended! read more

English-style pub in the 6th. arrondisement (2 minute walk from the Carrefour de l'Odeon on Boulevard St. Germain) serving lager and beer by the pint plus Bulmers cider in bottles. Sky TV, showing music videos, live football etc etc. Good atmosphere and popular with ex-pats as well as many locals. Frequent happy hour deals in the afternoon/early evening. Open 'til late. I have found that sometimes it is ram-packed and at other times you can be just about the only people in there! read more

This place is nice to go have a beer at. I went here one night because it was close to where I had diner. The staff was really nice and welcoming. I went there on a Tuesday and I was very happy with the ambiance. It's got a welcoming five bar feel to it. One of the bartenders recommended I go back on a weekend. She was very nice and she made me feel very welcomed. Everyone who works here speaks English so if you're from abroad and don't know French, this place will make you feel at home. read more

My husband and I stumbled in looking for a drink before going in for the night. We were unaware that it was a college bar ( at least it catered to the below 30 crowd). The bar tenders were courteous and helped us with the British selection of beers. The music playlist was perfect for any Americans. This was the nicest watering hole in Paris due to the staff and drinks. My bartender was American and very friendly. I visited almost a year ago and stayed around the corner. This became our "go to" in the evening and I just had to return on this trip. If you ever get the impression that all those other places are being a bit rude, tired of translating for you and appear inconvenienced due to you lack of language skills then stop by here and recharge your batteries! Please go for the Mojito's on Thursday after 1800, they are the best in Paris if not Europe! read more

A fun places for drinks, especially since the bartenders speak English. Seemed like lots of American there, but I also met French and Moroccans. It got pretty crowded but not to the point where it wasn't any fun. Solid music playlist, if you like American music. Drinks were good. I lived in Paris for 6 months and this place was one of my favorites. Everyone speaks English and you're not going to be rubbing elbows with any fancy Frenchies, but it's a cool place with friendly people. I made some great friends there and would have been lost without them. Live music and DJ's throughout the week along with some decent deals. The staff is great, too! I'm not someone who generally writes reviews on bars, but after the spectacle I winessed tonight I felt I owed it to this community to know the truth about this place. I've never actually been inside, but as I was walking home and minding my own business, I witnessed one of their bouncers punching the lights out of some poor guy on the sidewalk. Even though I've been around a lot of bars and have witnessed many drunk people in bars, I'm pretty sure I've never actually witnessed so much free violence from any bouncer in my life before. After buying drinks at "The Mazet" all night, the guy was probably drunk and should have cleared out but certainly didn't deserve what was coming his way: the bouncer punched him so hard in the face that the guy was knocked out cold and pissing blood from his face. Soon after the incident, the bouncer must have realised that what he did was by no means acceptable behaviour under any circumstance and was quick to flee the scene. All that was left to witness was a poor guy dripping blood from his face on the sidewalk in front of the pub with his girlfriend crying and trying to call for help. I called the Samu and couldn't believe the reaction of the bar who didn't even think to help the guy and left him there on the sidewalk for everyone to see (I'm pretty sure he must be in the hospital by now). I don't care how good the drinks or the atmosphere are in this place, when you've witnessed what I have tonight you know there's something deeply messed up with the staff here, and if you've got any sense you'll look for someplace else to spend the night with your friends... read more

Conveniently located next to other bars and restaurants, this authentic English pub makes for a nice place to enjoy a decent pint of Guinness at the end of the day (come during Happy Hour). Nice selection of national and intenternational brews. read more
