Oh my god! The service was amazing. Our waiter was so special with us. I wish I could remember his name. We tried escargot here for the first time ever and we were in love. I had kangaroo which I had never eaten before. I asked them to cook it the way they knew would be best and they cooked it medium rare. I usually eat my meat medium, but I was in love with this piece of meat! I'm salivating thinking about it. I LOVED this place! I want to go back to Paris, just to come back here!

Kangaroo and red fish!

Very good French food. Definitely try this place and suggest to arrive before 7pm which will beat the dinner rush. Very friendly waiter and translated the menu for us! Go for it!

No wait for us! :) We were the only customer at the time probably because we started dinner too early. The waiter here can speak English and took the time to go over the menu with us. The menu is not extensive which is what we liked. There are some beers on tap. We came here for escargot so we got a dozen. Also ordered the kangaroo and duck. They both taste amazing!

To our disappointment, only the bar opens at 4pm. The restaurant opens at 7pm. What a waste of metro tickets.

The cocktails are very fun, and they even have a few beers here if that's your thing. The servers speak fluent English, and it is popular with foreigners, but it's not a tourist trap by any means.

So the little red door has a cute red door but the bouncer lets you in through another door (novelty observed haha). The man takes your jacket and umbrella (what a gentleman!) and sat us on the second floor. While the space between the couch and the seats were rather small, we were able to manage. I got the permaculture and resilience. The resilience is a club favorite and my favorite too! The way the sorghum, pineapple sage (syrup), pasquet cognac, and savanna rum all tied together was a blessing. I was going to get a third but I was tipsy by my second drink. My first drink was the permaculture and while I was considered it would be strong, it didn't seem strong to me. I love clarified dairy in alcohol so this was a win in my book. It consists of chestnut, butter, wakaze umeshu, avallen Calvados. The bar let's you stay for an hour but if you sit elsewhere, you can stay as long as you want. 5 stars and I hope to come back someday!

The bar is straight ahead, in the building, and suddenly it becomes grungy-chic: it's all black with a long high table, stools, tall drippy candles, and loud pop music. When you're here, you must order the punch. It's 13 euros per person, which is steep given the serving sizes (you serve it yourself with a fancy gold-plated ladle, but the glasses they provide are small). They have three different flavors, and we chose the strong and spicy one. Deeeeee-lish. Not too sweet, refreshing with the giant ice cubes and tiny pink rosebuds, and you could barely taste the liquor, which is always dangerous. Steer clear of the food here, though. We needed something to absorb the alcohol and ordered the hot dog, which I figured would be as fancy as the drinks. Not so. It was a dressed up Knacki, stuffed in a bun with mustard and dried onion chips. Not only did it have an unpleasant aftertaste; in the moment it was plasticky and industrial. I regretted the 7 euros spent on that. Bottom line: La Commune is fun for sexy punch night with friends if you're already up by Belleville, but I wouldn't traverse the Seine to get there. And I certainly wouldn't order their food.

The coffee itself was good but not quite enough to take you away from the stench of passersby. Super crowded in the evenings and at night too. I completely understand that can be a nuisance for neighbors, but we were completely unaware as there was no gate, sign, or even curb. Halfway into our pints, the owner comes running out screaming at us, lifts the chairs up while we are still sitting (mine still had my handbag hanging on the back) and hurls them against the wall. He continued to yell and insult us, saying that if we don't like the rules, we can go elsewhere, when we were trying to move our table in and making efforts to fit everyone within the confines of the restaurant. I understand this can be an issue for bars, to not disrupt the neighborhood, but that was certainly not the way to go about it. While he was yelling at us, another employee comes out and proceeds to berate us as well. It was starting to be clear that these were just jerks looking for an excuse to fight and argue. But seriously, with customers? That is just gross. I was shocked beyond words. Never in my life have I witnessed such atrocious, aggressive behavior from people in the service industry. It was all I could do to keep my wine in the glass and not throw it in one of their faces. For shame. What an utter lack of decency and respect for customers. The way we were treated and ousted was despicable. It is fair to say we will not be returning in the near future.

Then I was wondering what to do as people had dispersed .. I saw a couple smoking a cigarette at the back of the bar. Me being from another country and not knowing French laws followed suit and lit a cigarette. It was such a dark and dingy bar that i wouldn't be surprised for patrons to smoke there. When my cigarette was almost finished the same angry thug looking man came up to me and grabbed my hand aggressively and squeezed it hard manhandling me until my wrist hurt and took the cigarette out of my hand and said 'get out! Get out! You are forbidden to ever be in this club again! You have broken French laws. I'm escorting you out!' I have never been treated like this in my life like I was a thief or a horrible person. I didn't know French laws were as such and it was an innocent mistake. I was manhandled and in the USA I could sue this bar for touching me in this way. I will investigate French laws and might file a claim. No one should aggressively manhandle a woman this way. Disgusting treatment of patrons. He could have kindly asked me to put the cigarette out and I would have complied. Never go this bar. Also expensive drinks
