The honor of review #24 for the year 2024 goes to L'escargot! Me and my friend were staying in a nearby hotel and a quick google search gave me the name of this place. I wanted to try traditional French food and this place seemed to have really good reviews about it. We decided to stop by at the end of our day for some drinks and for me to enjoy duck confi. When we got there and asked for a food menu they informed us the kitchen had just closed. I was really disappointed we had just missed the service by 30 minutes but we decided to stay and order drinks anyways. After everything me and my friend had gone through to make our way to Paris the experience we had at L'escargot almost ALMOST made up for everything that had gone wrong. Me and my friend had a blast at this bar!! The bartenders spoke english and answered all our questions, they were extremely friendly and the drinks were cheap. The locals at this bar were so amazing as well. They did not speak fluent english but they did make an effort to speak to us and share their bar snacks with us. There was a group of locals celebrating a birthday party and they were dancing and were pulling people off their seats to dance with them. At one point in the night a group of other locals and tourist came in and the atmosphere in this bar got even more vibrant. Like I mentioned before the amazing experience we had in this bar almost made up for all the things that went wrong on our trip to Paris. When I go back and if I am in the area I would love to go back and have another great night like this. If you are in the area I would highly suggest you go just for the ambiance. read more

Oh my god! The service was amazing. Our waiter was so special with us. I wish I could remember his name. We tried escargot here for the first time ever and we were in love. I had kangaroo which I had never eaten before. I asked them to cook it the way they knew would be best and they cooked it medium rare. Great neighbourhood eatery. We arrived at almost 10pm (the place closes at 11:30) and were seated immediately. Going with the waiter's recommendation, we went with the escargot (what else?), the foie gras, the fillet of kangaroo (no joke!) and the creme brûlée trio. I asked the waiter for a wine recommendation, and he suggested a delectable Languedoc which complemented the food famously! This place is the real deal. Casual (very casual) atmosphere and simply excellent food. The server and chef are likely to be sitting out in the bar with friends having a drink when you arrive so don't be put off. Be patient. The escargot were insanely good--perfectly cooked and served simply with a little pesto butter. My daughter and I had the confit du canard and souris d'agneau, respectively, both of which were splendid. We finished the meal, or so we thought, with the trilogie de creme brulee. Vanilla bean, raspberry and lavender, each really good. Then the chef, having heard me and the server talking about each dish, asked if we wanted to try this experimental dish he had made. Had a great time at this tucked away place in the Buttes the Chaumont area. The place is unassuming. The menu is written on a black board at the end of the restaurant - not a lot of choices but everything we ordered was very good. The server was very friendly and spoke fluent English. The patrons did get a little rowdy but when we inquired we were told that the nephew of the owner was celebration his college graduation. We are staying in an AirBnB nearby, and saw the reviews for L'Escargot. What a treat! Our waiter, Arthur, couldn't have been more charming. He spoke English and helped us with the menu. The starters, mains and desserts were first rate, as was the neighborhood vibe. We are only in town for.a.day or two more, but we will go back for both the food and the atmosphere. After approaching we almost chickened out at the front door because our French has a bit to be desired and am I glad we didn't! As soon as we entered we were welcomed with open arms and given a table. After some French introductions Author (BEST GUY EVER!!!) asked with a big smile if we would like to continue the rest of the night in English. We agreed and he went over the top to ensure we had a wonderful experience. Food was excellent, atmosphere electric, and overall experience a 10. This is a true local spot. I was in Paris for three weeks and everyday we went to a restaurant. L'Escargot was my favorite and I went there three times. The mood was great, a little noisy as I like. Looks like a place for locals to hang out. The food was just perfect and not expensive. The lamb was my favorite, but the red mullet (rouget in french) was very good too! The staff is very friendly and they gave us some rhum shooters and they drank with us. I also tried their spicy mojito and it was even better than many mojitos I had in the caribbeans. This place is a must for any traveller who wants to live like locals! P.S. For north americans/asians, go there at 9:00pm as it is the time french people have dinner. Fantastic French food for a reasonable price! Authentic and hilarious waiters. The chef was wearing a shirt that said "Oedipus the true motherfucker". I loved how chill the place was and how close it was to where we were staying. The duck is phenomenal and so is the lamb. Totally over rated. Food is over priced for the quality they offered, I had the escargots with foie gras (I think i had more foie gras if lick off my plate at a different restaurant), and the fish was edible (not much effort in preparation). Love the person who served us. He went through the trouble of translating their whole menu to us. We ended up ordering the foie gras, escargot, and kangaroo. LOVED the escargot so much that we ordered a second order. Kangaroo meat was amazing, it is red meat and was very tender and fatless. It is a hidden gem a little out of the way from central Paris, but worth the travel. The prices are cheap compared to other restaurants serving the same food.
