I've been a customer of Frederick Coin Exchange since the early 2000 and I've had no complaints with them up until now. First, I sold to them 2 US Mint gold coins. The process went through and I cashed the check. To make a long story short, they contacted me to tell me that their employee made a mistake and that they would be canceling the check. The woman who processed the coins miscalculated one of the coin's value and it took me 3 trips to the store and almost 2 weeks to get a corrected check back from them. Second, reciently I brought in two US Mint containers of 20, 1oz silver coins and the woman quoted me a price on that container. I rightly assumed that she was offering to double that price since there was two containers. Then she took both of them back to get approval. She returned and proceeded to write up the total sale for the price of just one container. I brought the error to her attention and she apologized. We then had to restart the process over again for the full price. Well that wasn't all, she filled out the check by hand, and when I tried to deposit it into my bank account, the teller told me she couldn't do so because the check wasn't signed! Once again I had to return to the store to have something corrected because of an employee's error. The Exchange has always been good to do business with but recently the staff have not performed to the same level of excellence they once did. I still recommend them to you as long as you triple check their employee's work before leaving the store. read more

Great Team Here !!!! I needed to get an old coin collection evaluated and sold. The process to make an appointment was easy. The customer service is great on phone and in person. When I arrived to the shop, the staff was really organized and on task. The staff requested I fill out a short, 1 pager, customer service form, and then off to the races. The staff divided the work among 3 people to organize the coin collection, evaluate and price the collection in parts, and then present their findings, and a total everything up. NOTE: This was a collection of US based coins which ranged from early 1800's to present day housed in binders, partially completed boxed sets, and loose coins. This collection was roughly 800+ coins ranging from 80%+ silver content to simply FV or fair value circulating coins in use today. The team walked me through the evaluation results and the sale process. They evaluate using multiple criteria and described their process to me. I then I took the coins to another dealer (no mention of names here) and their process was not the same at all. They evaluated the coin set based on silver content and age only. They had a knowledgeable staff but not as friendly and not as organized for high volume. The process at the other coin dealer took 3 hours and they offered a significantly lower price to take the colleciton. Needless to say, I returned to the Frederick Coin Exchange and got the set re-evaluated and sold... and I gave them more coins to evaluate yesterday as well. The team took great care in the process and the 2nd set was sold as well. I an so happy this coin exchange exists in the area. The staff who helped me (really did the heavy lifting) were Eric, Amy, and Alex especially. These staff were great performeers, doers, customer service people, and got the jobs done with humor sprinkled in too. Really great staff !!! Also, the owner, Matt, was at the establishment and was professional, offered his opinions on the pieces, really did a great job! They used a 6-month-old monthly periodical to price my Morgan Silver dollar collection. I called the guy out on that and did change to a more recent MONTHLY periodical. He did not offer to show me what numbers he was using to price the coins. They are hitting the 50-60% market value point, which you can get at any pawn shop. Evaluators are continually distracted by other evaluators to weigh in on other clients' items. If you have to sell something here stick to bullion because they do have a continually updated gold and silver board and will tell you how much off spot they will pay. If you have a collection to sell just sell it on eBay where you'll have to pay a 10-15% commission. I will go somewhere else read more

Our family had gold and silver coins they decided to sell. We found that "FCE" was listed on Yelp so we decided to drive to their shop and check them out. Our decision to drive 53 miles - was spot on! We called ahead, and the helpful receptionist suggested we bring our items in after make an appointment. The showroom vas very spacious and clean. They followed social distancing protocols and had several hand sanitizers conveniently located throughout the facility. All employees wore face masks and those handling coins wore gloves. During our visit a customer arrived without a mask. Within a minute the staff kindly offer them a new mask while they waited for their appointment time. Our coin expert thoroughly evaluated the quality, weight and appearance of our small collection. They even took the time to look up information on one of our foreign coins listed in an international coin catalog. Their evaluation was accurate and detailed. We were pleased with their estimates and will most surely use then in the near future. As important, the facility was comfortable and safe. And, the staff was respectful, knowledgeable and kind. Please support this small business! This group goes above and beyond for your business. I walked in this store front on a whim to inquire about silver dollar books. Although they didn't have any new ones to sell, the employee I worked with had one with a few coins in it. He emptied it out and gave it to me for free! There isn't much to look at during COVID, but upon inquiry, they showed me two coins that I should consider for my next collection. We had a long discussion about these coins and, once I got home and did my own research, knew I found "my" coin shop. :) I'm not local to Frederick but the drive is 100% worth it to work with people you can trust. read more

This review took some time. Made appointment for their coin grading service. Had to wait for the world coin guy I think Richard not sure of his name bald white gentleman. Frist I would like to say coin grading is subjective I ask for grading on many Morgans and Peace silver dollars. I will only give you one example a 1928 S Peace dollar. Richard said melt value 20$ only is what they would pay. This coin was BU very few marks uncirculated. I told him thanks sorry to waste your time. Sent my coin to PCGS for grading. Took 3 months came back MS62 value from PCGS price 430$ Now all I,m saying if you have coins FCE gives you low low pay for your coin. Then they put coins they pay almost nothing for and sell them on EBAY for Premium price so please don,t short yourself take the time get another opinion. I had many coins grade higher than what FCE quoted me. Sold Richard none of what I brought in except some foreign coins. read more

I had inherited a bunch of silver flatware and other place settings. I looked online and found this place. I called and she took the time to explain how it would save a lot of time if I had sets and matching pieces put together before I arrived. That was very helpful! When I arrived (I'm from out of town), I discovered there was metered parking and I didn't have any coins on me. I went inside and asked for change for my paper money and they just gave me coins to put in the meter without taking my money! How nice of them. In fact they paid for the entire time I was parked there. The lady that helped me was very friendly and explained a lot of information about the pieces I brought in. She took the time to give me history on some of the really interesting pieces. And when she was done ringing it all up, she offered to pay me and let me leave and not have to hang out while writing up every piece on the receipts. She promptly emailed me the receipts within a couple hours of leaving. And to say I was pleasantly surprised at how much she paid me was an understatement!
