They resized my antique engagement ring and I could not be more thrilled with the result. They did a really nice job and you can't tell where the modifications were made on my ring. I just purchased an air king for my in laws - and really had a great experience. Some of the owners - Jeff and Sarah - walked up before and after the purchase to say hi (it's a family business), and my saleswoman Alison was fantastic and emailed before and after the sale. Compared to other Rolex ADs (namely the one near me in Bethesda) they were miles ahead in terms of both customer service and selection. To my surprise, I was unimpressed with the store and with the products. I had heard so much about this little jewelry store and had expected that they would meet my expectations. More importantly, I was dismayed by the complete lack of consideration the owners and many of the employees who did not understand the importance of wearing masks, showed their guests. I understand there is, unfortunately, no mandate for masks in Maryland and I am triple vaccinated. I had open heart surgery 18 months ago and I know how to take care of myself. But one of my wonderful Miles & Stockbridge lawyers, a business around the corner, has had breast cancer and is at high risk. Had she walked into this business, she may have contacted the Covid virus. The reckless indifference this local business has shown its guests makes me decide never to walk in here again. Had I not asked for a piece to be custom made, I would have canceled my order. I will not walk in here again. This business is what you get when you have a big fish in a very small pond. I had several pieces of jewelry appraised, sized and repaired. I had one bracelet in particular that needed a clasp repaired. when I picked it up I thought, great job. Literally 2 months later the side clasp wouldn't stay closed. (and this is not wearing it all the time) ran it up there and after they looked at it, told me they didn't work on that part of the clasp. Interesting, as my repair ticket stated clasp repair ... 200.00 for that repair plus the appraisal fee! They did offer to get me an estimate for another clasp repair .... their team is very professional but I won't go back again ... I have a hard time believing on a clasp repair , they didn't tighten the lil extra latch on the side of the clasp read more

Wanted to buy my first Rolex and establish a life long relationship with my local Authorized Dealer. In summary, it's my opinion that Colonial has a poor selection as well as poor customer service. Very, very disappointed in the female sales person who said she would put me on a waiting list and I never heard from her again. I felt like I was an inconvenience and that she treated me very dismissively. Wouldn't have surprised me one bit if they kept submariners in the back only for "preferred" customers. I found myself in the Caribbean two years ago, and nearly every island had a Rolex Authorized Dealer with an expansive inventory on display and the type of extremely attentive customer service that you would expect from a premier brand. The islands are are also tax free. I bought my second submariner (two-tone) last month, and I plan to buy a GMT soon, but it won't be from Colonial. read more

Something is seriously off with this business. My story is so bizarre as to be unbelievable. But I am not a bot and this really happened. My husband and I met up with our son and his family in Frederick and headed to this store to have our daughter-in-law's ring resized. They told us the ring was "extremely worn" (it's less than 4 yo) and gave us a price: $576. After a lot of haggling, Patty brought it down to $400. Before we left, my husband used their restroom. The toilet overflowed and he told them what happened. They reassured him and said the toilet was clogged. He apologized several times. The next day, colonial called my son and said my husband left their bathroom in such a state that their daughter was traumatized by cleaning it. They accused him of spreading stool on the walls (!), and said the ring was now going to cost $1,000 and their odd warranty was off the table. I was so upset that I couldn't sleep that night. Today I took the ring to my local jeweler and asked them to evaluate it. A couple prongs needed tightening and one diamond realigned. I asked for a second opinion. Same story. Price for small repairs and resizing: $265. No drama, and everything was transparent. Avoid Colonial Jewelers. I have no idea what is going on there, but it still haunts me and I can't make sense of it. read more

My husband bought my engagement ring at Colonial, so when I want to sell some jewelry I inherited but would never wear, I though I'd go there. Big mistake! Although the place advertised that they buy estate jewelry, I think they are not that serious. I made an appintment and I took the set, necklace /ring /bracelette, to the store. The sales lady took it over to the guy she said was the owner. He looked over his nose at it for a slipt second. Then she brought it back saying he's not interested. And that was it. No careful look at the pieces, nothing. A few days later I made an appointment with another jeweler, Circa in Bethesda. What a different. I met with Lee Segal, who was curtious and professional. He took a long time examining my pieces explain to me what he thought and asked appropriate questions. Circa took them in for consignment for 17000+. That was a few days ago. Eventhough the pieces haven't been sold yet, the experience was very pleasant compare to the one I had with Colonial. So if I have estate jewelry to sell again, I would definitely not waste time with Colonial Jewelers. I'd take them to Circa. read more

Called to see if I could have a ring purchased elsewhere resized. Before I could explain really anything was cut off, talked over, and dismissed. I can understand policy regarding newly purchased rings (mine was purchased Dec 2019). Was talked over and told it would void a warranty I had with my ring, which it doesn't and I'm not sure how the representative I spoke to would know since I couldn't explain my situation, where my ring was purchased, or get more than 3 words in sucession out. I can respect that policy but I highly doubt it's policy to be rude to potential customers. There are a lot of places to buy jewelry and in an ever evolving industry where you can cut out the 'middleman' and buy directly you would think customer service would be the cornerstone setting apart smaller brick and mortar jewelers. Clearly won't be getting my ring resized there and would not consider them as an option for future purchases. In a world where it costs nothing to be kind, you would think that would be the minimum standard in any customer based business guess not the case at Colonial Jewelers. read more

Housed in an old bank, the building is quite pretty and a good display for their jewelry. I was surprised, however, expecting a much larger selection considering how large the main room is. However, it was nice not to feel bombarded with all kinds of jewelry, it was organized and roomy. A good sized pearl and watch collection were on the walls and in the center was a display with all various necklaces, bracelets etc with gemstones, diamonds and so forth. They had one section dedicated just to Pandora. I stopped in for the Ladies Night Out where they served all you can eat appetizers (amazing!), champagne, truffles and gave out free manicures and chair massages. A girl can't complain about that. Many of the employees were on hand and very excited to show you and let you try on various jewelry. The engagement ring settings are on the left when you enter and I checked them out while getting my nails done. They had some very nice rings, however, but they all tended to blend in to one another and there weren't many unique ones that really popped out to me. It may just be my style, though. They are a bit on the pricey side, just FYI but they have a jeweler in house so you can expect quick turn around on jewelry polishing, settings and etc. read more

I love this place. Having grown up in Frederick, I've been coming here for years to look at things here and there and daydream of owning pieces of jewelery from this store. So I was thrilled this year when my fiance went to Colonial for my ring. The thing is drop dead gorgeous. Complete strangers comment on how unique and beautiful it is. And, for the record, it's not because it's a giant diamond, it's just beautifully done. I love colonial jewelers. Their service is unparalleled and they have a wide selection of not only engagement rings, but necklaces, wedding bands, bracelets and pendants. The woman that helped us took the time to identify what we were looking for and make appropriate recommendations. She also educated us a great deal about diamonds and let us know what to look for. I was looking for a rare cut (marquise 2 ct stone) so unfortunately the only reason we didn't end up getting a ring from here was because the stones they carried were not the right size, but in their defense almost no one regularly carries marquise cut diamonds. I will definitely be going back here for a wedding band. They had an amazing selection and they were unique bands that I did not see anywhere else. This is a great place to get a gift or treat yourself to something nice. Definitely take the time to browse their selection. It is well worth a visit. read more

I purchased a necklace for my mom. It was beautiful and reasonably priced. However, I also wanted to get my wedding band increased by one size. They wanted to charge me 215.00. I verified that this wasn't an error for a simple resizing. They confirmed that this is what they charge. I declined and called the jeweler that we bought it from and had another local jeweler give me an estimate- 50.00. It's a nice store, but I feel uncomfortable that they attempted to charge me that much. read more

RIP OFF ALERT! I took a ring in that had a crack in it to be fixed. They quoted me $400!!! For a crack. I took it back to my local jewelers who fixed the crack for $40. Their reasoning...they use a lazer to fix the crack...the quality was the same for $40 and the jeweler who fixed it was disgusted by the quote. They also refused to fix my gold pocket watch saying "We wont waste our time ordering a new spring, its not worth our time." Staff was very friendly but the back office people wouldnt even look me in the eye. Buying from a place like this makes you feel good because it's not Zales, but trust me...I have four brothers who all bough nice engagement rings at other places...this place is a rip off... read more

I wanted to buy a pair of earrings exactly like the ones my friend had. I looked the design up online to see where I could get them. They are extremely simple in design. and very common. I saw a photo in the image search and went to the site. First of all... it is extremely shady to me that they will not list prices.. But I messaged them anyway to inquire about the pr on the site they had. It took many emails back and forth to explain just what I was looking for because I asked if the center stone was raised or if it was flush with the rest of the stones. She wasnt sure and said that the designer wasnt there that day and would have to ask him on Monday. I asked how much...it was the same issue... I had to wait until Monday. ..Which didnt make sense AT ALL. Are the earrings even in the store? Go look! Why does the designer have them? Dont they carry a list of the prices for the things they put up on the site? The excuse on the site claims that they dont list the prices "due to fluctuating precious metal prices". Meanwhile, every other store in existence lists them just fine. Again..I didnt argue and just accepted that Id have to be patient because the woman was very polite and seemingly wanting to accommodate my exact needs. So..Monday comes and goes, I hear nothing. Tuesday (today) she emails and says she will be away from the store until thursday due to being "out for training" ... I questioned Why is it so complicated just to get a price on a pair of earrings? If you advertise it on the site...wouldnt you have the price written down already? A week to get a price on earrings seems quite unreasonable to me. Is there not someone else who works with you AT the store who can send you the information? Is it normal to be suddenly sent off to do training for the better part of a week without reasonable time to even prepare? . A week just to get the price of a pair of earrings. .I had more questions I could have asked but I stopped there saying that either something was fishy w the business or its just a poorly run business. a few moments later, the owner emails me with ALL of the details.. but that theyre "out of stock" .and stating " so they are finding the components to measure to get the exact diameter.". wait.. out of stock, you say? And if you can give a person a price over the phone or email then there should be no problem to post it online. the market doesnt change THAT frequently for it to make that much of a difference from one day to the next. MILLIONS of jewelers can state a price for an exact piece on their sites. at this point I dont trust them at all. Ill just go to a jeweler in my area. A few points here: 1- dont answer your emails about a specific piece if you LITERALLY have NO information on it NOR is it in the store NOR is it even in stock. and 2ndly- Just put your prices up. if the market changes just change it on the site. None of this dancing around nonsense. 3rd.. know your own ,merchandise. a customer spending that kind of money for jewelry ought to be able to have confidence that theyre familiar with their own product and are informed enough to give immediate answers. Do you have the earrings on the site or dont you? If you dont, then take them off the site until you do or post "out of stock" on it. and furthermore...if its "out of stock" then how did the owner SUDDENLY have all the info as to size, clarity, color and price? "Hi, we are jewelery store but we dont know what our prices are and we dont even REALLY have that stuff on the site anyway. We have to ask some guy who isnt here and we cant get in touch with right now. We'll get back to you next week." HOGWASH! read more

Was told over the phone that they can do something as simple as change a watch battery however once I arrived I was told that they would not be able to change the battery. They did recommend that I take my watch to the mall which I did and the service was like night and day.
