I wanted to like this place due to the convenience of its proximity to our hotel - Hotel Jay, but after a dinner and then lunch trial I can say it wouldn't be a recommendation from me. The staff was very pleasant, but the food needs serious work. Dinner order: - Poutine: pretty decent, I would say a 3.5 to 4 stars on this appetizer. I would have hoped for a bit better of a dish given the proximity to Canada, but after a 6 hour drive it was satisfying. - Buffalo wings: these were a 3/5 at best. They were a bit soggy and at first I was thinking they may have been baked and lacked any real flavor. I ended up letting the hubs finish them off. - winter salad: this was a complete waste of $7. It sounded so good with almonds, strawberries etc. but again lacked flavor with limited toppings of poor quality. Two bites and I was good. So much for getting some greens in during dinner. - hamburger: this was just an epic fail. My husband ate it because he hates sending things back but we you ask for a medium burger you expect pink not basically a seared piece of ground beef. The couple next to us actually sent both of theirs back - they had ordered medium well and it was just as rare as ours. Lunch order - with hopes of them redeeming themselves we wanted to give their lunch a try. It was slightly better and I would say increased to 3.5/5 - Burger: yes, he wanted to give it another try this time ordering it medium well with bacon and bbq sauce. It definitely came well done this time and he had to ask again for the bbq sauce since they forgot it. In all he said it was more edible but a basic burger at best. - chicken sandwich: this was ok, but the chicken breast was a bit off. read more

The Foundry is within the Jay Peak Resort on the tramside, nearby the spa. We were seated quickly and greeted by a friendly waitress who took our drink order. A little while later, we were able to quickly place our food orders and they came out fairly soon after and were all accurate. The food itself got mixed reviews. I got the Brisket Melt and it was pretty delicious. Some of my friends got the cheeseburger and weren't super impressed. I would say overall, it was just your average pub food, nothing amazing or special. When we went to pay, the 10 of us attempted to divide the combined bill. Of course, some people had cash and others needed to use cards. Once we figured it all out, we provided directions to our server - use the cash first and then split the rest amongst two cards (not too complicated, given the number of people). When the server came back with our cards, we were a little confused. The cash was all still there. When our confusion showed, she explained that she did take the cash off first. So, we signed our receipts and left. So weird though, I didn't appreciate the attitude, especially since it is NOT normal to return the cash to the table when you come back with the card receipts, right??? We almost took the cash back not understanding what was going on with the bill! That would have been super bad for the server, since it was nearly $100! Overall, just a kind of middle of the road experience, but the weirdness at the end brought it down to a two star review for me. read more

We were a group of 8 - 4 kids, 4 adults - for dinner after a long day of skiing and waterpark. The Vermonter flatbread was an absolute hit - very well balanced and well cooked. The Puttanesca was also good as were the hearth-baked chicken wings. The kids meal were standard fare - nothing terrible or particularly good. Main dishes were hit and miss - fried chicken was not very tasty and far too many mashed potatoes to the amount of chicken. Scallops were generously portioned and tasty - as was creole pasta. Settle in folks, this is going be a bumpy ride. Firstly, the hostess was a complete sour puss shrew who seemed unable to muster any pleasantness or even a smile. But we can almost look past that given what appeared to be limited intellect. Now for the reason anyone reading this should find a can of beans or peanut butter sandwich to munch outside in the snow. After ordering the $32 paella special I got the special bonus of someone's 9 inch nasty hair as a side dish. Okay you might say these things happen in the food industry, so how did they recover. Well, the answer to that is requires more of the story. We found the manager, a portly fellow we believe was named John although he never introduced himself when called over to address the issue. He promptly and sheepishly apologized and here is a quote, said "oh, that's not good" and scampered into the kitchen never to be seen again. The waitress did come but 10 minutes later and said "John just told me what happened and I hope it wasn't mine". That was exactly the response I was hoping for! Anyway, cutting to the chase, they did not charge me for the half eaten paella ( or the hair). Or stated another way, they were kind enough to let me ingest some hair for free. If you thought that was it, you'd be wrong. While waiting for the waitress to finally do the big reveal so we could see how they handled things we noticed at the guy making pizza behind the bar wishing we had ordered that instead. Alas, it only took a minute until we saw him reach across the bar and shake hands with a friend of his and then, after sanitizing his hands by wiping them on his shirt, he went back to making the next order. Yuk, this place is unbelievable. On the bright side, At least he was bald so the next hungry customer won't get the "Foundry Special". Don't eat here! If you're that hungry just eat your own hair. read more

Pretty crappy considering we got the reservation at 7:30. I love waiting for nothing, so get a reservation super early and show up late apparently. People in our group are also waiting for fish. I don't understand what the deal is with the negative reviews. If you're at Jay Peak, this is the place to go for breakfast. I'm a huge fan of breakfast food. This place takes it to a whole new level. The meats - the ham, bacon, sausage, corned beef hash - were nothing like I've ever had. It was simply amazing. The pigs that were sacrificed would be proud. I don't know if it was the maple glaze or the fact that they are made fresh locally, but it is by far the best breakfast buffet meat I've ever had. At $15, it's a bargain for a resort. You're probably going to pay that much for a piece of bread cut open at the top with a small bit of chili poured over it, marketed as a chili bread bowl in the cafeteria. Seriously, it's just so good. The staff is very friendly. Our waiter [on both days] came by to refill our coffees before the cup was completely empty. The restaurant looked clean, which isn't surprising since the whole place seems to be new. Also went here for drinks/dinner later and found it to be pretty good. The bartender was friendly and attentive to our needs. We ordered the poutine, but at $23 with the meat, it's a bit on the pricey side for the portion size. It was good, but it was completely overshadowed by our amazing breakfast experience. read more

Lets start this off with the breakfast. $15 for a the best breakfast buffet or breakfast that I've ever had for that matter. I'm not usually a breakfast person, but the breakfast here made me forget about all the other meals for the day. While $15 may seem a little pricey, it sure wasn't for the amount of food I had. Bacon, sausage, thick sliced ham, and corned beef hash, all locally sourced and heavenly accented with mapley goodness. The service was very attentive and courteous and the bar also has a nice selection of rye whiskeys. It snowed a foot when I was here, but I don't know if I was more excited to eat breakfast or go snowboarding the next day. One star off for $23 poutine. It was good but unless it's got bits of real panther in it, 60% of the time I'm not getting it everytime. read more

We had the soy tofu stack appetizer (excellent), tree hugger flatbread (excellent), kids jay burger (mediocre but it's for kids), Diablo shrimp flatbread (excellent but a bit spicy and with way too much olive oil), cheesy breadsticks (above average because they're stuffed). Service was good, beer was served in a chilled glass. They did a split check for a party of 8. My only complaint was that the flat bread and the veggies with the kids' food were cooked with way too much olive oil. It was everywhere. If not for that, 5 stars. This was in mid-August. Based on all the reviews I've read, its really a hit or miss at The Foundry. I had a very decent experience here and would totally come back. I sat at the bar so the service was relatively timely and on point. The only negative thing I would say is that it took like 10-15 minutes to bring the check over. Foodwise, also depends on what you order. The clam chowder was so-so, but the prime rib sandwich was really good. And from what I saw, the pizzas all looked amazing too. Also, I was by myself, so it was relatively easy to get by. If you're with a family or large party, especially coming around dinner time, be prepared to wait for a table and slower service in general. At least this is what I saw. read more

Well now I see why this place is going bankrupt. After arriving at 2:50 and being told 20 minute wait, I witnessed several parties being sat before me. When it approached 3:45 and our party of two was still not sat I questioned the hostess. I was given the response that other parties before me worked better for the tables they had available. Really??!? So two people eating are no good? Unacceptable, however I am stranded at this resort for the next few days so unfortunately for me I will probably be forced to eat here at some point. By far this was a terrible experience and ruined our evening. If I could give this place zero stars I would. We called ahead and made a reservation for 7:00 for 10 people and arrived on time. Our server Andre, who showed up with a stain on his shirt, arrived at our table to take drink orders. Please note that half of our party was not drinking and we had a 1 year old with us. Apparently taking drink orders (during which time it was made apparent that he had not been educated as to what standard cocktails were), was enough to keep us satisfied for the next 45 minutes, during which we sat at our table completely ignored, with no water, bread basket, or opportunity to put our orders in. We finally ordered and the food arrived 20 minutes later. At this point our baby was exhausted and unhappy and half of our party was so frustrated they boxed their food to go. I have to mention that Andre, our server, had at this point visited our table a total of 2 times - once to greet us and take our drink orders, and once to take our food order 45 minutes later. We asked to speak to the manager, Cindy Meade, who briskly let us know that our food was put in at 7:43 and came out at 8:05, so there was no problem. She did not bother apologizing or even addressing the rest of our table. Upon further discussion, I was given the number of the director of the restaurant to call (and we will be calling). According to Cindy, she called her director, Oral Kelly, and was not given permission to comp appetizers or further provide a concession to our group in exchange for our poor service. I was in the hospitality industry for 10 years and have never come across a manager who is not empowered to make a decision like this. Shame on Jay Peak for allowing such substandard service to go on under their roof. read more

We recently made the mistake of eating here. They could not seat us at a table because we did not have a reservation. There were at least 5 empty tables. No big deal we ate at the bar. Atmosphere is ok so no complaints there. We had a starter of duck confit wanton that was pretty good. By the way only 4 beers on tap so bit disappointed there. Overall not too bad...so far. Then came what was allegedly flat bread pizza. Holy crap this stuff was execrable. Chef Boyardee would roll over in his grave. I would continue this review but I am off to the bathroom. The staff was new which is understandable but didn't help with the menus changing the day before we arrived. Anyways it took 15+ minutes to receive our app and our old fashions were made like a Manhattan and upon interviewing the other bartenders to validate they can make them the next drink we received was like a bourbon orange juice concoction that was pink... Undrinkable! My pasta bolognese tasted worse than boxed Chef boardee and I was so famished I ate it anyways. My boyfriends burgers looked like Burger King and never was asked a temp. The frozen then fries fries were the best thing I ate! At the base of Jay Peak Ski Resort this is a nice addition to the Tram Side base area. Ate here both times for lunch (come early it gets quite packed around 12:30) and had a few different items. Sat at the bar and the bartenders were GREAT! Knowledgeable on beers and food alike. The brisket sandwich was my favorite item but since this is northern Vermont the French fries with gravy and cheese curds are a must. Prices were rather reasonable and it made a fantastic lunch option. read more

Never got a chance to eat as we waited 20 Minutes with no service. As we were sat and told we needed a highchair for my 2 year old...after 15 mins passed and we never got the high chair I realized we were not going to get served either. Got up and left and at this point all other restaurants on site were getting ready to close because it was Sunday so we did not get to eat. My 2 yr old and 7 yr old filled up on snacks for bed. Not the cafeteria, it's pub food plus. The flat breads are great, and the chicken carbonara one is fantastic. Any dishes with the Montreal meats is great too. It gets pretty busy at tines at midday on weekends, so service drops a bit, but the food is really good. read more

My boyfriend and I decided on the foundry after looking at menus of the surrounding restaurants. It was not peak season at all so we were expecting semi prompt service. It should've been a sign when the hostess took 15 minutes to seat my boyfriend and I, at a slow pace. With our stomachs growling, we just wanted to eat. When we were seated we had a ton of shredded cheese under our table and the cleanliness of the carpet and surrounding tables were not up to par... When we sat down it took a while to order drinks and an appetizer. Coming to this restaurant I had my heart set on the herb crusted haddock by looking at the menu online earlier... We ordered the drinks and the appetizer and when we went to order the main meal she informed me that they were out of the Haddock. It would've been more decent of her to tell me that before we ordered anything at all. When she said they still had the fried fish sandwich that was also with an Atlantic haddock I questioned it. I asked if they were both made With haddock and they had one and not the other she said they were prepared differently which I was confused by. However, I then had to order something else, and ordered a simple farmers market salad and my boyfriend ordered the buffalo chicken flatbread. The two stars come from the dressing that was pretty good, and the flatbread that was "okay." Overall, the service was really slow and not attentive to customers regarding what should be told prior to ordering - courtesy. The food was okay, and the drinks were good. Definitely would not be my first choice when coming back to jay peak. read more

Food - Okay Wait time - Totally unacceptable Food choices on menu - very limited for vegans or vegetarians We reserved the table to show up at a certain time and showed up there and still ended up waiting for 10+ minutes with a LOT of empty tables. I agree with another reviewer about empty tables and still the waiting thing. Waiter came in 15 mins after we got the table. The free bread rolls came another 10 mins after. We placed the order and the appetizers came 20-25 minutes after and the main course 30 minutes. I lost my appetite waiting forever for the food. Plan on being at this place an hour before your usual dinner time so you can factor in all of the above delays. Or even eat a little before you go there. Taste was okay but nothing to write home about. Price is steep for the food choices and the customer service. All in all - I am quite disappointed. If you are vegan or a vegetarian, plan on alternate arrangements than simply assuming like me that "this place has a lot of restaurants to eat". It does NOT. Alice's place was closed, Aroma was closed. That leaves us with very limited choices in the area. This was a terrible excuse of a restaurant. I ordered a Caesar salad- got some old wilts lettuce drenched in Caesar dressing with some raisins on top. Tasted like it should have been thrown out quite a few days prior. Also got a pizza to share which was just mediocre and very greasy. Left my stomach very upset for the rest of the night (also could have been the nasty salad). My dad got the swordfish which he said was absolutely the worst swordfish he's ever had- tasted like cardboard. The night started when I call to set a reservation for dinner. My party arrived to the restaurant at the proper time but was told our party would have to be split up and there would still be a 30-40 minute wait. We then decided to just order out from the Foundry, and was told the food would be ready in about half an hour. Half an hour passes only to be informed that our order was put in 5 minutes prior and would still take another 25 minutes. An hour and a half later than our set reservation time, the food was finally ready. The slow service and lack of honoring a set reservation was a real disappointment on a day that was going so well. Also the sarcastic "bro laugh" by a waiter was not helping. Nice guy and suggested a good beer, just the laugh did not speed up the preparation of our food. read more

Okay we stayed at jay peak hotel and stayed in Hotel Jay which is same building as the indoor water park. $560. Without skiing per night. Room was okay with a partial view of pool roof and mountain. Not bad but room was pretty banged up from other renters and I asked the staff and they told me hockey teams stay here...lol. the first night fire alarms ar 830pm. Had to get dressed and leave the room and waited in lobby for 45 min. Finally people started going back to their rooms without any notice so we did. Then another fire drill with no explanation. Wtf right??? Then the next day we go skiing and it was okay.rhat night we went for dinner at the foundry and I got a partially cooked fish and had to return after 50 minutes waiting the first time. They took the fish off the bill. The dessert (ice cream sandwich) was pretty good so we opted to order out the next night and who would of thought they could mess up an ice cream sandwich???? There was no Ice cream between one of the cookies just a little melted cream. The pizza place mountain dicks was okay. The Mexican food at the club house was not that great either but they have no other options up at Jay Peak read more
