I had a stellar dinner here yesterday that had me swooning over my meal the entire time. I had the seared duck breast with Bing cherry reduction, served with a very tasty polenta cake, and I absolutely loved all of it. Their house-made rolls and special butter are good enough to make a meal out of by themselves. Spinach salad was very fresh. My husband enjoyed the ahi tuna with honey mustard sauce but thought mustard was an odd flavor to pair with tuna. Service was very good. I love the ambiance of The Fork. It's a perfect blend of casual with fine dining. A true gem. Although I hope they keep the duck with cherry reduction on the menu (which I will be back for more of), I've noticed that the menu doesn't change very much seasonally, so my one wish is for them to vary it a little more by rotating other dishes through to keep it interesting. read more

This little establishment is located at the intersection of N. Shore Rd. and Y Rd on the Eastern shore of Lake Whatcom. I came here with a group of 7 people for dinner around 7:30PM and was seated readily. I ordered the "Taylor Farms Manila Clams" for appetizer and the Braised Pork Osso Buco as the main entree. The service was good and the food came out in a reasonable amount of time. The taste was very mediocre as the clams were overly seasoned and the bread was dried out. I liked the ginger with the clams but could not understand why they added bak choy and Chinese sausage? If that were their attempt at Asian fusion, it would be a two star at best. The pork was ok in terms of flavor but was not hot when it was served. That is one thing that would ruin a pork dish; tasting luke-warm. The stems of the baby carrots were not cut off and when I took a bite, a bunch of sand and grit also went into my mouth. Yuck. All in all, it was a bit disappointing for me but given that I went with my friends and also someone who worked here, the time was at least well worth it. read more

Came here with a friend for a lovely dinner. Although they are obviously mainly reservations, the hostess tried her best to fit us in on a Friday night! She was extremely kind and we appreciated being able to get a seat last minute! The menu is beautiful and has a very limited, but wide variety of food to soothe everyone's cravings. The wine and beer menu are both excessive and offer plenty of options. I had the pork chop which came with grits and asparagus and was very delightful. My friend got the salmot (although they order the teriyaki chicken) but the salmon turned out to be delicious. My FAV thing about this place is the location tucked away on the north shore of Lake Whatcom. Makes for a cute date night. Will definitely be back! read more

Seating for both a bar and dining room is available. The dining room is loud enough for private conversation, yet not so loud to be annoying. Tremendous restaurant. Every cocktail, appetizer, entree, side (breakfast and dinner) I've had at The Fork has been prepared with pride and expertise. We go once a month or so, and more often than not, there are new items on the menu, all of which are delicious. I've never had food here than was less than wonderful. The ambiance is romantic. An antique (I think?) crew boat/shell hangs across the restaurant with string lighting. Very suitable for families too. Last, the service is top notch. The servers seem to know the menu and all specials etc by heart. I have nothing less than stellar things to say about The Fork other than the fact that it's a 15-20 min drive (albeit a gorgeous drive) to get there from Bellingham proper. Worth it! read more

This is a great little hole in the wall place. We came here for brunch and I had the huevos rancheros while my fella had the chicken fried steak. While we both enjoyed our meals, we didn't feel it was worth the overall price compared to some other places. Their drinks were quite delicious- you can't go wrong with a mimosa! The atmosphere is a huge benefit to this place as it's nestled in the woods by the lake, and they did a good job of complimenting their surroundings with their decor. This is a great place off the beaten path but still just minutes away from downtown. Really cool decor and the owner David is so welcoming, warm and attentive. The service is top notch and the food is really good and focused on local sourcing and prepared with a classic French influence with a Pacific Northwest touch. Homemade rolls with a delicious honey butter, shrimp and grits were my favorites along with a really tasty clam dish. Great ambiance and nothing feels rushed. A great place to take your time and enjoy yourself with friends! Really wonderful drinks as well and as I don't drink they even prepare their own mock tails and make their own club soda which is really special! Will definitely be back!! read more

This my favorite breakfast/brunch in Bellingham. We go at least once a month but honestly my husband and I try to go every weekend. The girls are wonderful. We don't even have to order our drinks when we come in. The seasonal menu is wonderful (even though I normally get my "normal") If they have the Benedict special go for it, ALWAYS. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY! Went to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Could not have been more disappointed. Only about 10% full on a Friday night--now I know why and it wasn't due to covid. Our entrées were priced $36-$38 for ribs and jambalaya. The rib dinner consisted of just 4 ribs drenched in sauce and improperly rendered so that they were vert fatty. The potato that came with it was great, but only the size of an egg. That was all for $36. No veg, nothing else. Spouse got the jambalaya which would have been great if it were an appetizer, but at $38 was hardly an entrée. We also split a salad with was probably the highlight of the meal. So for $100 in food, we went home hungry. Not right! It also really bugged me that we mentioned it was our anniversary both when we made the reservation and when we sat down and told the server. I wasn't looking for a free dessert or drink but only what we all have been craving since covid started...a little human kindness and interaction. But not a single word from our server to wish us a happy anniversary. Overall, I am so sad that we wasted our anniversary dinner at this restaurant. Please do yourself a favor and do not visit them. Not worth the price or the good will. With the shortage of good restaurants in Bellingham, this is really a shame. Way overpriced-- and under delivered. I highly DO NOT recommend. read more

We had brunch after an 8 mile walk by the lake. Everything was delicious. The cheesy shrimp grits are super yummy, service was great and I love the ambiance. We discovered this little treasure in December 2019 & our first meal was a fabulous brunch. When we learned of the wine dinners, we added those to our monthly agenda. We enjoyed our wedding anniversary (40th) Valentine's Day wine dinner. We were on board for the March wine dinner, but with the virus quarantine & lockdown, that one was postponed. Luckily, Dave & his crew have kept the kitchen open & busy during this time with a mildly reduced menu prepared for pickup. The meals have not disappointed. We love their Shrimp & Cheese Grits, Crab Cakes and the delicious She-Crab Bisque. The key lime pie is yummy & the changing chocolate dessert alway worth adding to our pickup order. We order & drive over once a week! We are anxious to return to dining in, but loving the meals we are having during the temporary closure. read more

I am so bummed I didn't go visit the Fork under the previous ownership. Everyone told me how wonderful this place was. So when we planned for a big birthday dinner for my dad I thought this would be a great place to take him. Sadly it was a terrible mistake. I really wanted to love this place like the atmosphere is great the servers were fantastic I even liked speaking with the new owner. It was the food. I am so sick of this stupid trend of not cutting salad. My Cesar salad didn't even have dressing on it or if it did I could not tell. I am still not sure what I paid $10 for it maybe it was the cost of the anchovies or the few capers they sprinkled on it? Who knows. It sure as hell was not worth it. Then the crab cakes wow it even got worse. Don't make crab cakes in Washington from caned crab and it it was not caned crab it was very old. I won't even go into the rest of the food very disappointing. I was a chef in a past life along with growing up in the restaurant industry (my parents owned a pace since I was 8) so it's not like I don't know what it takes to have great food. Maybe I am a Little more picky than most but if I am going to pay over $100+ on a meal it had better be good. I am giving two stars based on the service and the old fashioned I had. We've tried a lot of places in the Bellingham area over the years, and unfortunately many of our favorites have declined in quality or changed their menus in strange ways and we've had to move on. With fire-breathing outdoor heaters, The Fork, one of our favorite places to enjoy dinner in long winter evenings, has now opened up its patio for outdoor dining during this difficult time. It's a wonderful experience on a quiet weekend afternoon. Wasn't difficult getting seated. Our waitress Jessica served us some of the terrific dishes we have earlier experienced in the dining room. We began with baked brie with almonds and currants (or was it cranberries?), this with my favorite sazerac old fashioned and a martini for my girl, and proceeded on to enjoy a mixed salad with portions of crab soup--a specialty. Shrimp and grits, a comforting mac and cheese with garlic and andouille added, quickly followed, all accompanied by a terrifically light Austrian wine (the name which now escapes me). Nearly ordered one of the terrific pizzas the restaurant is long known for, but instead took away a shrimp po' boy sandwich to have a little later on in the dark long evening-- this time at home. By the time we left, (we had lingered far too long), the patio was amply filled with diners, all huddled near the heaters against the chill in the air. All were about to experience the appealing pleasantness of this very special Bellingham restaurant. read more

I had heard such great things about this restaurant for years, so I finally made my way out there to try it for brunch. I am so glad I went, the food was fantastic. We were seating very quickly and the food came very quickly after we ordered. I ordered the polenta and eggs on a whim because I don't typically like mushroom heavy dishes, but it sounded good and I figured I would trust their chefs. It turned out to be one of the best meals I have had for brunch. Absolutely incredible. The pickled onions added the right amount of tangy sweetness to counter the richness of the creamy polenta. My only comment would be I would have liked one or two more of the pickled onions. My husband had a chicken fried steak, which he seemed to really enjoy. My kids had the pancakes, and I of course had to try them to determine how yummy they were. We all had a very nice time and we all thoroughly enjoyed our food. I would be surprised if we don't go back next Sunday! I'm very happy I finally gave this place a shot and I am excited to have a new place to take visitors. read more

Quite a drive from town, The Fork is a bit of a hidden gem that's oh so worth it. Set against a wooded backdrop, ambiance is just lovely---during the day blanketed by natural light while soft lighting in the evening lends itself to a romantic feel. Just keep in mind that when it's busy it can feel quite loud and crowded. We most often return for Sunday brunch, as the prices are quite similar to the rest of town while the quality of the menu and food far surpasses the competition. They switch up the menu often enough to keep things interesting, but not so frequently you never develop a favorite dish (mine is the creamy polenta and eggs, by the way). The specials are always intriguing and delightful but you'll want to arrive early to be sure it's still available when you order. We have also enjoyed lunches (flatbreads, burgers and salads---all available at lunch, all good--but breakfast wins out) and dinners (which we reserve for special occasions due to higher prices). The dinners are absolutely to die for, especially every steak dish I've ever tried. The staff is great--nice and attentive in kind of a laid back way. I love that it's fancy food presented in a relaxed (albeit beautiful) atmosphere--unpretentious yet sophisticated, I guess. A nice serene casual elegant setting on the shores of Lake Whatcom at a "fork" in the road. We were there with a group on a Sunday evening to celebrate a birthday. Interesting menu with some American favorites with a twist of the unusual. I had the acorn squash salad. Simple and delicious. Nice selection of wine and beers. I am not a fan of alcoholic beverages so I had the "ginger beer". Aside from full course dinners they offer wonderful wood-fired pizzas. I had eaten here before, about a year ago. The food and service were awesome back then. It was my favorite place in Bellingham for a nice night out. I took my wife here today for Mother's Day, and it's gone down hill since new ownership. It took over an hour for our food to arrive, including a cheese pizza for my 7 year old daughter. My wife's dinner was incorrect, even though she had a full conversation with the waiter about it before ordering, it was not right and was sent back. They informed us that they were "starting on it now" but we declined and cancelled the entree. Our waiter never came back, never apologized to my wife about the screw-up (on Mother's Day, c'mon guys!!!) no comp of anything like "hey we're so sorry, let me get you a glass of wine" nothing like that. Spent over 100 dollars on two starters, a glass of wine, a beer, a cheese pizza, and an overpriced steak with basically jo-Jo's on the side. The lack of service or apology was just sad. The first time in my life, I didn't tip. Seriously it was that bad. Will never go here again. read more

New ownership, sad experience! We used to go to the Fork once a week when we moved here 6 months ago. The food quality was amazing and the portions were large! The prices were reasonable for what you received. Now, the portion sizes are small, prices went up and the quality has gone down. We did communicate with the new owner and advised him that this was not a great business decision and try to offer some advice. Instead of hearing us or understanding he sent us a gift card, which we didn't ask for or want as we have no plans to go back there. I get that is why most people complain but we genuinely wanted our fav new place just to go back to the way it was. read more

We ate here on a Sunday evening, nice restaurant with a good atmosphere. We had fried green tomatoes and shrimp and grits to start, both tasty, then steak, arctic char and pork tenderloin for main course. The mains were mostly good but the big minus is my pork tenderloin was over cooked and tough. When I mentioned it, the waiter offered to get me a fresh plate, I was concerned that it would take too long and I would be eating on my own. The waiter reassured me it would be quick. It was far from quick and I ended up eating all by myself, not much fun! The waiter did apologize but when it came to the bill there was no free dessert, no compensation at all which could easily have been done and made me feel better about the experience. read more

Well the atmosphere was great, the waitress was extremely nice-- as well as everyone else-- but the food and the prices were... Way less than nice. Their Caesar salad consisted of four whole pieces of lettuce with anchovies, no dressing (or hardly any), and a sort of cheese thing... Keep in mind that was-- what?-- Ten dollars for those four pieces of romaine lettuce (that'll probably kill us all off anyways). I got the soup, and a whole bowl of it. Shrimp brisque or something... It sounded amazing... I wasn't impressed by what came out. First off, it was luke warm. Now it didn't taste absolutely terrible-- this coming from a hick that'll eat practically anything-- but I couldn't eat it all at once without wanting to be completely sick. Not only that, but I got about a teacup sized portion of soup (No, I did NOT get the cup of soup...). Though it's not like I was complaining after I tasted it. On the brighter side, their rolls and sweet butter was amazing, they had excellent tea, and the small bite of the rabbit pot pie I got was to die for. Plus everyone else's food-- though portioned extremely small and way over priced-- looked pretty awesome. So, this place is fine if you're not eating salad, soup, and like your food luke warm... Yes, everyone's food was cold. Still, they we're friendly and overall we had a good time... Though I think I'll stick to Subway next time for price sake. read more

Very professional! The staff didn't miss a beat at this cozy, casual/intimate setting. The Bartender was on his game all night, checking in on guests, welcoming walk ins, all amidst mixing the perfect cocktails for his bar patrons, and ensuring courses served were on point and satisfactory. I went with my wife for Valentine's Day(day after); and although the tables were obviously booked up on a Saturday, we sat happily at the bar and had a fantastic dinner experience. If you're from a big city like Seattle or Vancouver, its worth the late nite backroad curves around the lake. I also highly recommend the Rabbit Pot Pie! read more

I am not sure if people in Bellingham just don't know any better, but this "4.5" star restaurant is one place to avoid if you want the opinion of one honest Elite yelper. PROS: 1. Good service. Felt well attended to throughout our whole dining experience. 2. Quite ambient. We sat at the bar and it was nice to see the chefs at work. 3. Good local beer on tap. CONS: 1. Pretty pitiful food. We started off with some small plates and thought we'd wait to order entrees. We are so glad we did, because we didn't order any entrees after all. The bf and I shared: Fire roasted bruschetta. - This ain't bruschetta. Bruschetta, by definition, has olive oil, garlic, and tomato. This bruschetta was more of a crostini. 1) They should have used the right term (and yes, I know I am being pretentious). 2) It was hard to eat because it was topped with a rubbery, huge slice of mushroom. When taking a bite, the entire mushroom slice comes off the bread. When I tried to cut into it with a knife, the knife had problems. Something was off. 3) The overall combination of ingredients was poor. Way too cheesy and flavors didn't complement each other. Garlic truffle fries.- These were the only decent thing we ate. Not really truffle-y, but good. Fall greens. - Soaked in salad dressing. Way too wilted and soggy. Lobster bisque off the Valentine's Day menu. - This was split pea in color and again, did not live up to the expectations of a traditional bisque. It was not really creamy, nor rich, nor flavorful. And the lobster? It was rubbery, and hard to chew. We each took a bite and stopped eating. 2. Overpriced. $18 for the bisque, for example. Not a restaurant I would recommend to anyone. Maybe we ordered all the wrong things on the menu, but it definitely does not entice me to come back and try again. I admit I'm a food snob, but I don't ask much other than to be served decent, delicious food if I go to a place like this. read more

This place is really a mixed bag. Overall their food averages 3 1/2 to 4 stars - i.e. very good but not exceptional - but there are problems with consistency, both within individual orders and in the menu as a whole. Service is similar; it's usually good (by Bellingham standards) but can be very slow. And though I haven't experienced it personally, several friends and some other Yelp reviewers have been treated exceptionally rudely by the owner or onsite management. The menu is good, with some real creativity and talent at times, but they're also trying way too hard. Calling your pizza "fire bread" and your breakfast sandwich a "sando" isn't creative - it's stupid and pretentious and adds nothing to the food. Here's a quick hint: if you're trying to project an upscale image, having "Banana's Foster French Toast" on your menu is not the way to go about it. Most people who appreciate upscale food are also familiar with the basics of punctuation. It might seem like a small point, but it's indicative of the entire operation - lots of hits, but some egregious misses. I've mostly eaten here for breakfast and was initially very pleased, but noticed a small but perceptible decline in quality over about a year of dining there every 2 months or so. They have switched to using cheaper ingredients for some of the dishes; the aforementioned Bananas Foster French Toast replaces the vastly superior Chantilly Peach french toast they used to offer. I've tried most of the egg and main dishes, and they're all uniformly solid but none is exceptional. The specials are often excellent, though, as are the apricot rosemary pork links. The coffee is also very good. Servers are uniformly pleasant, but often have a mildly Xanaxed air - there is a distinct and pervasive lack of urgency. In fact, I haven't seen a single employee hurrying to do anything, regardless of how busy it might be. The kitchen seems to operate on the same principle. read more

Recently took my husband to "The Fork" as I've commonly heard it referred to....we went last Saturday for breakfast and there was a bike race going on right outside the restaurant, which is probably why it was a lot busier than usual. We parked right up front and were seated immediately and given water and menus....it took a bit for the server to get to us, but again, they were busy. My husband ordered the chicken-fried steak and hash browns for $13 and I had the crispy spatzel and eggs with the apple sausage for $12....both were awesome....I'll be hard pressed to order something else next time when I know how good mine was before....they also serve lunch and dinner.... Their website states: "Their house-made seasonal menu is devoted to thoughtfully sourcing local ingredients, and reviving simple, scratch-kitchen classics with a new twist." I found this to be true... So....two thumbs up from me....I'll def be making the drive out there again....which, btw, was beautiful....I've never been out that way before....it seemed like a lengthy drive but it really wasn't....already planning my next breakfast there... read more

This is a hidden gem. Every meal there has been more than I expected. Last night we lost our way trying to find our Airbnb. We found ourselves at The Fork and decided on staying for an apple while we asked for directions. Our server was Sam, formerly a cook in the kitchen, now promoted to being a server. He was above and beyond being a great addition to the front of the house, welcoming us and seating us, giving us his attention for the hour and a half we were there.
